Mixing Hair Dye Help? 10 Points?

TT

I have a question concerning dye mixing. I'm about to cut and color my hair for a style I love. I have a couple of dyes laying around. 1 is a Revlon Colorsilk boxy dye(liquid dye and separate developer) and some Ion Color Brilliance dyes about. Would it be okay to mix a ion color with the colorsilk color? I looked up the tones of each and they are basically the same except Ion has a red undertone I like.

So without using the box dyes developer and using my own developer can I mix these colors?

I don't recommend you try to be a scientist and biologist @ the same time. SALON: Hair bleach burnt my scalp?
its been a week today that i had my mobile hair dresser come and do highlights for new year. it was blue powder and white cream stuff she mixed up to use. anyway she got it on my scalp which really burnt me! the foil was so hot she could barely touch it! she didn't rinse my hair off until she had finish the last two highlights and by that point the pain was so bad i was almost crying! she didn't even wash the bleach out of my hair properly and when blow drying it it just burnt me even more! that same day about an hour after she left it was still burning and noticed scabs forming and my hair sticking together. i did go to the doctors the other day to get it checked as the pain is still very bad and its also swollen. all they gave me is this shampoo called oilatum that i can only use twice a week. dose anyone know of what else i could possibly do or use to stop this incredibly bad pain and burning that keeps me up a night too. as the doctors have said its not infected.

Style meets chemistry meets biology: We're talking hair coloring.

Playing with chemicals is not like playing with clothes, or doing a manicure, there are penalties for playing chemicals in the lab. Even hair color experts at the salon are not rocket scientists, they do a bang up dye jobs to their clients or their own hair.

Help with super curly thick red hairstyles!?

GreyhoundR

I have super thick super curly red hair. Im going into the eighth grade so I want to change my look. Right now all I do is wear it in ponytails or buns. I was thinking about bangs but im not sure. My mom wont let my straighten my hair every day plus it takes 4 hours! She also wont let me chemically straighten. Its about an inch past my shoulders. I might also want to cut it short but im afraid it will afro. Any ideas? pics would help too!

Answer
You're going to love your hair when you are older!! So many women are jealous of girls with super thick hair - and to have natural curls is a plus. I love being a redhead but I didn't appreciate it until I got out of high school. I wanted to have long, blonde, sleek hair just like my friends.

I would not get bangs. If your hair is thick and curly, bangs will not sit right on your head. They will poof out and look very dated.

I would go for a long layered look -- a few shorter pieces around your face, but nothing shorter than chin length. I know this was a while ago but Debra Messing has thick, curly red hair, too. How about something like this:

http://fashionrules.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/debra-messing-picture-1.jpg

You might want to invest in a curling iron - use it to take big pieces of your hair and curl/smooth them out a bit. Also, look for some really good anti-frizz cream/spray that will help calm down your hair.

Don't cut it short -- You want it to be long so the weight of it will pull your curls down a bit and settle it down.

Foxy Locks Hair Extensions ?

I want to buy the Foxy Locks Deluxe Hair extensions but I'm not sure what color to get. My hair color is a light auburn kind of like this: http://bios.weddingbee.com/pics/98682/hair2.jpg but maybe a little more red. I was going to get the Toffee Brown 14 but I'm not sure if it will be dark enough. Please help me!!!

Thankss!<33

Answer
Call Customer Service 1-800#.

Getting extensions are not that easy, like buying shoes. AND if you have problem styling your own hair, add hair extensions to the formula, it will be even harder to style when you have them.

People waste tons of money on extensions because it's the new trend. Without doing much research. Then, they come to YA HAIR and ask us questions on how to clip it on their hair, if they can go swimming, play sports, if they can dye or perm, etc. Do you think you'll have time for school, trying to put on hair extensions over 1 hour every morning? Then, they ruin it by dyeing to match their hair.

It's really not that simple! Then again, it will not work out if you have thin hair, the clip will be showing through! How embarrassing will that be, if it keeps falling out from your head, if it's not on right!?!
May 22, 2011: Model and businesswoman Katie Price, who was formerly topless model Jordan, is demanding compensation from a top Los Angeles hair salon after she spent $17,000 on hair colourings and extensions that she claims were botched, leaving her hair so damaged it began falling out.

Kate Gosselin got hers from a salon, and she was on the front cover of People magazine, but she HATED her hair!!!! Access Hollywood. She paid $7,000 for hers. Took 7 hours.

At the salon: 25-50 ($50-$100) extensions, they also have hidden costs, like monthly maintenance fees, one girl charge YA poster $248 more saying the salon put 120 extensions on her head, but she only counted 60. They are very charming!
Google Britney Spear's hair extensions. July 21, 2010.
Jessica Simpson & Paris Hilton don't even use their own hair extensions, plus they have stylists to do them in photo shoots or travel with them. Jessica was photographed, showing her clip-ons during a windy day.

EXAMPLES OF WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING ABOUT their HAIR EXTENSIONS
well on friday i got synthetic extensions, and they dont curl very well, so i was wondering if i plaited them and left them over night would they go crinkly and mix in with my real hair
because theyre fake i dont know if i can actually style them very well, which is annoying!
+they are starting too get ratty, any tips on how to take care of them ?
thanks!

And another ex:
I have sewn in hair extensions. My natural hair is neck-length, and these extensions are down to my chest. They're sewn in (if you didn't already know) with black tracks, while the hair is my natural hair colour: brown. But I want to have it up in a high-ish ponytail. But, obviously, the tracks are really obvious. How can I make them less obvious?
I hate having to have my hair down all the time. I've always wanted it, but now I'm getting bored. :/

One more ex:
I removed my hair extensions yesterday after 4 months. My hair is really thin does any1 no any good products to thicken it?

And another ex:
i bought 100 dollars clip in 100% human hair extensions and it hurts and pulls my hair. u shud just wait til it grows out. my hair was real short and i wanted extensions real bad and now i feel bad wasting 100 bucks on that where i cud of spent it on clothes or sumother beauty thing. ur not going to wear them after a while cuz u get annoyed having to keep clipping them in and all or whateever kind of extensions ur getting.

Another extensions, hers cost $600:
I got the pure extensions on Thursday their the ones the get put in your using a little barrel and clamping it shut . My coworker put them in as kind of practice since were both new to it but now they are hurting me really bad I have thick hair so she put a lot of rows in and the back of my head is so sore ! I want to take them out but don't want to because I spent 600 dollars on them . Is this normal or did she maybe put them in rong ?

This one says it all:
i have had hair extensions done in a hairdressers in melton mowbray 3weeks ago. i have been told they are 100% real hair but they look terrible,it looks like i have been back-combing it. if i curl them it just goes frizzy and if i straighten them it also goes very frizzy with the back-coming look. i have bought all the products that was advised and i have looked after them the way i was told to. i have had hair extensions before and they were lovely, i had no problems. i have been back 2 times to the hairdressers for help and advise and i was told that the hair is rubbing on my shoulders which is giving the back-combing look (my shoulders are not that big). i am now asking for my money back and the hair taken out but they are refusing. i have spoke to the hairdressing federation and they told me to call trading standards, they said to get them tested but i do not know where to send them. thanks for any help.

What color hair will our baby have?

Brandy

I was born with red hair which is now dark blonde. My husband has black hair and is Italian. My father and most of my family on that side have red hair. My mother has light brown hair. His father has black and his mother has brown/auburn hair. His family on both sides also have a history of redheads.

Answer
If there is red hair on both sides of your family then there is a chance your baby will also have red hair. You have two recessive alleles for red hair colour, and although your husband has dark hair he may also be carrying a recessive allele. If he passes this on to your child it will have red hair.

Did Ghengis Kahn have red hair?

mikethedru

My own family are descended from the Bourtechai, the tribe of Ghengis Kahn. The tribal name means "The Grey Eyed People". According to family tradition, red and blond hair was common among the Bourtechai. According to The Secret History by Rashid Al Din, Temuchin had red hair and grey eyes. Even today, among the Mongol peoples, red haired, and blond haired, and hazel eyed people can be found who are of pure Mongol blood, although it is a very uncommon trait.

Answer
well, If people have red colored hair and eyes now, even if uncommon, must mean that it has to have come from an ancestor. This means that red gene was there a long time ago, but is recessive in the gene pool. It is very possible Genghis Khan had red hair.

Temporary red hair color?

Elizabeth

A few months ago I dyed my hair red, using the Gariner Nutrisse Light Intense Auburn Color For Darker Hair. Well due to the fact that the red hair color is hard to keep, I dyed my hair a natural black to cover it up. I've only dyed my hair black twice since then. There is still a red undertone and my hair has faded quite a bit. Im wondering if I use the Light Intense Auburn again, if it will work? Im going as Ariel from the Little Mermaid for Halloween, so I'd like red hair. I've only seen one review for this product on black hair, so Im iffy about using it again. If it doesn't work, Im wondering if there is a temporary red hair color that will go over the black easily. I tried the colored hair spray but it didn't even show up against it. I'd rather not wear a wig. Haven't found on that I like, and if I have, I couldn't afford it. Any help would be really appreciated.
I also do not want to use bleach on my hair. I had damaged hair trying to keep the red color, my hair just got back to being healthy.

Answer
I used a L'oreal Hi Color Excellence in Red to get my hair red, which would be the perfect Ariel red.

That product is meant for people with dark hair. I used it over dark brown hair (almost black) and it worked like a charm. Minimal to no damage.

best products to keep the red hair coloring?

Bettina S

love to color my hair in red hair dye, unfortunately, the red washes out quickly. wish products can you use to keep the color from fading or perhaps even turning to an ugly orange. also, i do alot of water sports, will the clorox from the pool fade my hair dye even more or not, please help. thanks

Answer
There was something I used to lock the hair color in my hair but I forgot what it was called. It worked better than I thought but the dye still washed out but little over time. All I can think of is wearing a swim cap to keep your hair dry. :/

About two years ago I started dyeing my hair brown from my natural hair colour which is blonde and now I want to dye in mahogany red I think my hair is back to it's natural colour almost even though it's still brown (light brown from dark brown) because my mums hair is light brown. So I just wanna know I can't dye it mahogany red or will it go Ginger or something? BTW it's a self dyeing kit!!!!!x

Answer
Hair dye ALWAYS fades. Yes you can dye it, it wont completely ruin your hair, but i suggest using Garnier brand hair dye(no ammonia) I've done the same. But if you want the color to stay longer you'd need to use a shampoo and conditioner combo to coincide with it. color enhancing shampoo?

MrB

How well do these work as stand along products? Which is best?

Answer
when i died my hair red, i used pantene pro v radiant red shampoo, conditioner, and friz creme. i think it worked well making the red shinier and more vibrant. now that i am a brunette again, i use the brilliant brunette (also pantene pro v) and like it as well. i think that it works, it is a good cleanser, and all of the products are a brown shade, so if they do cause residue (which they prob do) it is the shade of your hair, or lighter.

Should I do black hair with red highlights, underlayer, or tips?

K

I'm going to dye my hair black with red something, but I don't know which I should do. I have shoulder length slightly wavy hair, but I straighten it a lot. Suggestions?
Or I could do red hair with black highlights, tips, or underlayers

Answer
I say that red tips with black hair or red streaks with black hair would look good on people that have black or dark hair already. If it is lighter then it wont look that good but it just depends on what you look like. Also just to tell you black hair dye is very hard to get out and your hair wont be the same color really ever maybe after years though.

Cool skin tone but i have a warm color, help plz?

Jack The P

So i had dark brown hair (looked black) and my friend "lifted" it w/ bleach & Lvl 30 dev. Now my hair is a mix of burnt sienna, golden browns, and reds tones (box color she added). The red looks great, but the browns & sienna are far too "warm" for my "cool" skin tone. I fully expected id end up w/ orange hair for about 2-3 weeks (Nvr do multiple chem processes within 2 weeks) yup i'm also conditioning a lot.
So, now that my hair is lighter what can i do to turn it into the "cool" darker brown color i want? In need of comments tips and ANY color suggestions. P.S. i want to keep ALL the reds and some of the golds if possible because i dnt hate them, i just want my all over color to be more darker "cooler" brown w/ strong red and minor golden/sienna brown accents. She did a great color job and i love it, it's just not right on me. *<(:o]

Colors to dye red hair?

I have naturally darkish red hair. As of right now it almost looks blonde because of all of my highlights. I have no freckles on my face, brown eyes and brown eyebrows and eyelashes. Fair skin, not completely pale. My hair stops just above my shoulders, shorter in the front longer in the back.I'm a weird looking red head. And I want to dye my hair for the summer! I would like to stay in the red range. Any suggestions? I am open to ALL ideas(:.

Answer
Go for it girl!
I think it would look great on you!
I'm actually halfway through dying my hair black and red at the moment. I generally have black hair, with a lot of crazy, bright colours these days, and everyone seems to like it. I love it personally. It's creative and original. I'm going for only two at the moment, because I want it to be red and black over Halloween. Before I put the black dye in tonight it was black, bright pale purple, brown, bright pink, bright orange-pink, bright fluoro green, bright pale blue and purple. I've done red and black before, but it'll be all over the place this time =)
You should go for it. do all your tips... if you're game, put some in your fringe. You're beautiful, it'll look great.

Oh, but one thing to keep in mind: your hair is part of your outfit, so when going for colourful hair, it's important to remember that if you care about colour-coding, that when you have obvious red in your hair, you can't wear anything with pink anymore, and if you have pink, you can't wear red.
With my last hair, a whole huge section of my wardrobe that was black and red went into storage, because I refuse to mix pink and black. It get's to come back now...but no more pink tartan miniskirt! Your choice though =).

Would i look good with red velvet hair color?

imaBAMsgf1

I know a lot of girls have asked this question but everyone is diffrent so i cant take one girls answer when she doesnt look like me. I have blue green eyes and my hair is naturally dirty blonde. i have died my hair since i was 14. right now my hair is dark dark brown with red streaks (although thats not the color in the picture) but i want the color of Ariana Grande

http://www.facebook.com/album.php?id=712358820&aid=220580#!/photo.php?fbid=10150117566173821&set=a.429364238820.220580.712358820&theater

my mom says that she tried going red but it made her blemishes stick out and looked washed out and horrible on her and i want to know if it would look good with mine this is the most recent picture of me (like i said its not my natural hair color but yeah)

http://www.facebook.com/album.php?id=712358820&aid=220580#!/photo.php?fbid=10150113068748821&set=a.429364238820.220580.712358820&theater

and in this picture its an old one so my hair is alot longer now but its the closest ihave to my natural hair color

please let me know if i would look good with that hair color and if not if i would look with any kind of red hair color? please and thank you sooooo much!!
i personally think the rule of thumb never go more than 3-4 shades is wrong for some people. when i was little i was a toe head. i had platinum blonde hair like seriously and as i grew up my hair got darker but it was still blonde like i said my hair is naturally dirty blonde. yet i have dyed my hair the darkest shade you can get without going black (like the next shade up was black) and everyone that has known me has told me they like me better with darker hair than they did with blonde hair. and i know for a fact that my hair color now is prob like 8-9 shades darker than my natural and i look better than i did when i was younger so i know for a fact that the 3-4 shade thing is void for my case.

Answer
Red hair is cute. If you want a more temporary look just to make sure there are a few things you can try out. Manic panic hair dye is temporary and washes out in about a month. Lots of colors and you won't have to worry about re-dying the roots. Plus if you don't like it it will wash out soon. You can also mix colors to get a variety of colors so that would be fun to try out. There is also CosplayDNA if you don't want to do any thing to your hair. Its a wig that looks natural and you can do what ever just like real hair. You can use any kind of chemical treatment on it and it can be any length you want. Also using flat irons and curlers are ok for this kind of wig since its heat resistant too. If you have one of those you can change your hair as much as you want and take it off if you don't like it. Any ways I've blabbed long enough....links :D

(DNA Cosplay)

(Manic Panic)

Can be bought at Sally's Hair and Beauty Supply Store or online places like Amazon, Google, ect.
(You can get it for about $8 as a good price some charge more like around $15 just cause they want to rip ppl off so I wouldn't buy from them)

Would it look swell or not?
also, how would i achieve it, like, what hair dye exactly

Answer
I think it would look awesome :)
well considering your hair is pretty dark you may have to bleach it before you apply the red.
but my two friends both died their hair from black to a dark red and they both tried to apply the color over their black hair. ones hair turned out a little darker than the picture you have and the others did not change at all.
soo, it really depends on your hair type.
but be really careful with bleach! it fried my hair completely. & as for the type of hair dye go to a beauty supply store and get it, not wal-mart because it will wash out after a few weeks.
good luck :)

what color red for dark brown hair?

priincessj

i have boring long dark brown hair. i was thinking of putting red underneath my hair, just like blonds put brown or black underneath their hair.
If you have any pictures, and what color red should i do. I want it a little darker so itm kinda blends in. Nothing really wild, but definitely noticiblee. thankk youu.

Answer
I think you should go for a reddy brown, because it'll only slightly change your hair, but make it look different enough to be noticible.. Red dye fades really quickly, there's something in the pigment that stops it from staying in your hair, so you can never get it permenant, so if you do a browny red it'll hopefully just fade into your natural hair colour and you can redye it if you want then :) I've just realized that this probably wasn't the kind of answer you were looking for, sorry :S

How to dye dark hair into another colour ? ?

Soph

i have dark brown/black hairand i want it to have a red or pruple tint, what sort of dye would i use? and how strong should the dye be? would it work, is there any sites with a colour guide to what my hair might turn out to be .. oh and i dont want to bleach my hair either (:

Answer
If your hair is naturally dark brown, you may be able to get a good dark red with out bleaching. Just buy a permanent hair color that is a red you like.

To get purple or if your hair is already colored, you will have to bleach first and then put the purple on top of that. I is likely that it will fade to pastel within weeks if it has been bleached first though.

Do a strip in the back under the rest of your hair first to see if the color is what you want. (If using permanent hair color, mix only a little to do this. The stuff won't keep very long if it is already mixed.)

should I dip dye my hair myself or get it done?

Emma

I have very dark brown hair almost black. In 5th grade I had highlights put in professionally and from swim team and constant highlights I just eventually became a blonde. I then decided to go back to my natural dark color in 9th grade. After about 8 months I decided to go red (arianna grade red) as many of you may know red is the hardest color to keep. It looked great just like the blond because although I have dark hair in certain lights you can see my blonde and red natural highlights. So now fast forward 4 years, and I am back to my natural dark color. For the past year I have been wanting to get my ends dip dyed blonde. I decided I will go for it, here is the questions though. Should I save money, and do it myself? If so, what dye should/can I pick up from CVS, and any tips? OR should I trust my hair lady and spend the big bucks to get it done? thanks!:)
Ok I didn't ask for "should i do it or not" I asked what is the best way to do it. I take amazing care of my hair and it grows so fast because when I got my natural color back I went a year without any heat, or chemicals.. All i asked was..Should I DIY it or get it done? Thanks

Answer
Trust no one!

Celebrity wears two-tone hair dye all the time, trying to grow out their dye. Watch Victoria Newman on the Young & the Restless (her dyed blond hair had been growing for months & months, that was in 2012, but this is now 2013, and she still have it), Chloe on Y&R has two-tone hair, and another on Entertainment Tonight, she's one of the correspondence. Chloe Kardashian, Drew Barrymore & Guiliana Rancic (btw, she just had double mastectomy), Sarah Jessica Parker, Rachel Bilson,Jennifer Lopez (when she's not wearing hair extensions) have had their hair done like that (letting their highlights fade) for years! The other night, I even spotted Ivanka Trump's hair, she's letting her hair grow naturally on the Apprentice. They call that look ombre hair color â darker roots, lighter ends â but colorists sees that fading. Women are wanting dimensional color with natural highlights that look like they've been playing out in the sun. On Fashion Police 1-29-13 episode, Khloe Kardashian said: "I had that in 2011!"

"Ombre is the number one poorly done color in this country! It takes a lot of blending and finesse to look natural. The key is to highlight the whole head, then deepen just the roots. Unfortunately, a lot of the ombre I see today is bad - I'm ready for that to be retired! Dye should make hair look expensive and chic. Otherwise, what's the point?" ~ Harry Josh, Hollywood's top hairstylist, who have given Gisele ombre color for 13 years.

That dip-dyed, dark-at-the-roots, light-at-the-ends look that half of Bondi is sporting looks, like, sooo last season.

We're not actually sure who this is, but she should leave the two-toned hair to the pros."

Senior colourist at Oscar Oscar in Sydneyâs Paddington, Michael Kelly, agrees.
âItâs ratty, itâs tatty. It doesnât look luxurious. It looks cheap, like your colour has grown out and you havenât been able to afford to go to the salon and get your colour done. Girls see pictures on street style blogs and they want that hard, ombre look, but everyone ends up looking the same,â says Kelly.

Chemicals can enter the body through the skin.

> > > Hair dye chemicals linked to cancer
London, Feb 20, 2013 I've been saying that since 2009.
Hair dyes, which include home hair colouring kits and those used at pricey salons, are linked to deadly cancer-causing chemicals, warn scientists. In 2009 the Mail revealed that women who used hair dyes more than nine times a year had a 60% greater risk of contracting blood cancer.
A year later the European Commission banned 36 hair dyes which put long-term users at risk of bladder cancer. < < < <â¨
Google: Teen 'feared she would die' after reaction to hair dye
The allergic reaction was caused by a well-known brand of semi-permanent hair dye Chloe used to turn her hair black for a Halloweâen party. . . . . called for beauty bosses to ban hair dye chemical PPD (para-phenylenediamine) from the shelves. 11-04-11

The chemical is not new and is present in a number of brands of dark hair colours, acting to help adhere the dye to the hair so that it doesn't wash out. Itâs made from coal tar and is used in both permanent and semi-permanent hair colours. Itâs well-known to be a cause of serious allergic reactions -- including something called contact dermatitis which can lead to rashes, blisters, and open sores.
PPD is sometimes added to black henna tattoos and that using them is not safe. Allergic reactions usually begin within two to 10 days following application. One bad reaction can lead to sensitivities to other products such as hair dye, sunblock and some types of clothing dyes. Oftentimes, it's using the product a second or third time. Skin specialist Najjia Ashraf reveals that there are barely any dyes that donât contain this toxin; even the ones who claim they donât, are not being honest. âBig brands often escape the blame by suggesting they are ammonia-free. However, ammonia and PPD are two very different things and PPD is present in nearly every dye because it is what gives off the colour,â she explains.

Dying my red hair to Blonde?

Anna

Tomorrow I am dying my hair from red/brown to blonde. I dyed my red hair myself. It was the first time I dyed my hair. I've touched it up here and there with sture brand dye. But I'm going to the salon to dye my hair blonde. The blonde color I'm aiming for is kinda like Cara Delevingne blonde or Miley Cyrus blonde. This color, http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_mdiyi50cNl1r8yocr.gif
or this color, http://celebmagnet.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/reg_1024.miley_.blonde.mh_.080612.jpg.

So I guess what I'm asking is, what should I expect? Will I have to go back the next day? Can I get it all done in a day? Will I be able to get the color I want? Will it turn out the way I want it to?

Answer
Red is 100% the hardest pigment to change, every hairstylist would agree, and we learn exactly that in school. The blonde that you want seems more like a dirtier blonde, so if your lucky they may be able to get it close in one shot, but you may need anywhere from 2-3 sessions to get it done. And you shouldn't get it done back to back, if this is the case it will fry and kill your hair, so if you must have multiple sessions span it out 2-3 weeks at least.

The problem with going from red to blonde is that your hair will get the copper look more often. I have brown hair with natural reddish undertones, and because I've gone blonde I know when it's time to get my hair done because my blonde gets a bit orangish. Tomorrow when you get it done, depending on how much red is in your hair even after toner if may look copper, don't worry about this, by the next session the copper will lighten up to a blondish.

Good luck :)

Color Hair Spray Help?

J.O.

Okay, so I've dyed my hair numerous times. Enough times to learn the hard way that color never stays in very long after showers, especially red (which is what I have now). I want to use this "B wild! Temp' ry Color Spray" by Jerome Russel. But one of the bad things about color hair spray is that it gets stiff and you can't brush through it and it sometimes looks really un-natural. Has anybody used this color hair spray? And is it okay to use it over my highlights? Thank you internet people.

Answer
I've never tried colored hair spray, but if you didn't know already, red hair dye is the hardest to maintain. It fades faster and it's recommended that you wash it in cold water and to mix some of the dye you used in your shampoo.

At any rate, you can always find a small part of your hair, perhaps that's under your hair and spray some at the ends to see if it becomes stiff and crunchy. If it's not permanent and it becomes like that, you could always wash it out and your entire head wouldn't be effected, just that small area.

Why does my hair pull red when I darken it using an Ash color?

proudMAMAo

I am naturally a level 7 or 8, and very cool toned. I have my hairstylist color my hair with highlights and lowlights and the lowlights always look slightly red even when using an Ash color. Also my hair doesnt darken as most would think so do get my lowlights at what should be a level 7 we use a 5 or 6. Even my hairdresser is baffled as to why my hair pulls so much red and doesnt darken as it should.
The hair that pulled red is 100% natural hair, I had not put any color on my hair in at least 8 months and the redness is throughout those natural roots that grew in.

Answer
Perhaps you still have residual hair color underneath that once pulled red or orange and since you haven;t gotten rid of it, it's still under there.

You have the options of having your colorist let the low-light be much more ash and sit on there longer (running the risk of it turning grayish or green) BUT.....if they at least freaking try, since your hair pulls red, it might just work. I DARED the 4th stylist who wouldn't listen to me, do this and VOILA - it worked!)

Orrrrrrrrrr - last resort, have her bleach the hair and lift the color, and then start from scratch with whatever shade of ash you want. Much more damaging on your hair - but it will be stripped of all color that was on there before.

Hairstylists please help!!! Hair color problem?

sp

Ok, so a few months ago I dyed my hair with 3N permanent color (I used 20 vol. developer) then I absolutely hated it (go figure) and missed my blonde hair so she did a few foils which lightened some of the color, but it wasn't really what I wanted so I started bleaching high lights in (the high lights all ended up being around a 7G). Then today I had an appointment with my stylist to get my hair back to somewhere around a level 8N - she used the Pravana Color extractor which took most of the color out but left my hair tinted kind of orange-y and then she put color over it and I'd say it's probably a level 5N now :/
What can I do to get it back to a level 8 in a week or two (I can't afford to keep going to a stylist).
Please help.
Thanks yoohoo gal
Are there any deep conditioners you can recommend that don't need a dryer (I don't have one)?
I currently use a deep conditioner from K-Pak by Joico and also ER Fusion by White Sands once a month...
and I switch my regular shampoo's and conditioners from L'Anza Anti Aging and Pureology NanoWorks every couple of weeks
Oh, and do you think that using a clarifying shampoo a couple times a week would help fade the color faster???

Answer
You need to use scalp bleach, bring it up to a level 9 which is just past removing any red or gold tone. Then condition preferably under a dryer with a very deep protien conditioner then redeposit an 8N. Only add a little (1oz) of 8A. Only if you have any gold left. Mix these with 20 Vol Developer. Make sure you do several deep conditioning treatments. no more than 2 a week because scalp bleach can be very dry and damaging to the hair.

Coloring Dark Hair Red?

Mrs.Mann

I would like to color my dark brown hair into a vibrant red. Do I have to use bleach to lift the color a bit and then apply the red? What is the best way to getting the most vibrancy out of the haircolor? Thank you in advance!
Perhaps I should have stated that Im looking for serious answers and not someone to come on here and degrade me or my PERSONAL choices.

Answer
I think it depends on if you hair is currently dyed and just how vibrant you want it. If your hair isn't already colored in any way and you want to use a basic drug store vibrant red like these: http://clairol.com/herbalessences/vibrant/shade_palette_red.jsp you could just use it without bleaching it. I have lightened my naturally black hair to a bright red many times as long as it doesn't already have dye in it. If you already have a brown dye in it or want a super bright fire engine red, I would suggest going to a salon so that they can do it for you because it will require a multi-step process.

hair Color?

sweet brun

I was just wondering if an 8n on the hair color chart is pretty light. If I do this color will it look really light or darker than just plain bleach.

Answer
8N is considered light blonde but much darker than bleached to platinum... if you are using it on natural hair color then you must consider what your natural level is first ( i.e. natural chestnut brown hair is a level 3 or 4 with warm highlight using a level 8N with the correct strength developer will end up as level 6 or 7 redish brown/brassy) ... store bought products can only lift natural pigment 3 levels at most but usually less... and using an N series ( N denotes neutral) then you are not being provided with any drabbing so the results will have red or gold ( brassy) undertones... if you are using over previously lightened hair then you may flatten out the color... if the hair is porous you can bet there will some drabbing as well
I think you should go to a colorist and have a consultaton before you make a mistake

Color enhancers for colored hair?

Dena

So i dyed my hair red and it looks like its gotten darker. So what products can i use to enhance the color in my hair?? Ill like it to stay on the cheap side. Thx

Answer
Tressa Watercolors shampoo is the be-all-end-all for red hair, in my opinion. I don't know what I'd do without it.

They have 3 different shades for redheads; Liquid Copper with an orange base for more orange red shades from levels 5-9, Fluid Fire has a straight red base for bright reds levels 3-8, and Crimson Splash has a red with blue base for dark cool reds like magenta and mahogany levels 2-7. I have naturally blonde roots and this stuff actually puts a nice tint on them so that I don't have to re-dye them as quickly anymore. It's amazing.

I like to leave it in for 4-5 minutes when I wash my hair to add some extra kick to my color, and boy does my hair look like a bright coppery orange when I rinse it out! I paid around $19 for my newest bottle but it lasts a pretty long time since you aren't supposed to use it every single time you wash your hair. I use it maybe once or twice every two weeks and a little bit of it goes a long way since it lathers up really nicely. If you have a salon in your city that carries it you can probably get it cheaper, but I have to order online.

If you have painted nails or acrylic nails, you'll want to wear gloves when you use it, because it stains them pretty easily from the color in the shampoo.

also good screen shots from the show would be great also!

Answer
QUOTES:

1. From "red hair and Silver Tape" (Episode 2)

(Patrick Jane [Simon Baker] and Teresa Lisbon [Robin Tunney] in conversation)

Patrick:
(making a call on his cell phone) "Hi. I made a booking for two for this afternoon. Could you put us on the terrace? It's more romantic. Thanks"... (ends phone call then looks at Teresa) "Don't fret, I wouldn't seduce you over a meal. That'd be very sophomoric."
Teresa:
"I didn't think you were trying to seduce me."
Patrick:
"Come on, how could that thought not have entered your head?"
Teresa: (stares speechlessly at Patrick)
Patrick:
"Your denial that it did intrigues me."
Teresa:
"Bite me."

2. From "Red Hair and Silver Tape" (Episode 2)

(Patrick Jane [Simon Baker] and Frankie O'Keefe [Dylan Minnette] in brief but telling exchange)

Patrick:
"I've a daughter that would be about your age if I hadn't caused her death... her and her mother."
Frankie:
"How?"
Patrick:
"Out of arrogance... stupidity. I made an evil man very angry and he killed them to teach me a lesson. To make me sorry for what I've done... and I am sorry. Being sorry is far worse punishment than being dead, everybody dies... very few people ever feel truly sorry for the bad things they've done."

3. From Pilot (i.e., Episode 1)

(Grace Van Pelt [Amanda Righetti] is reading a note placed under Patrick Jane's [Simon Baker] hotel room door.)

Grace reading:
"Greetings old friend, it's been a while. I hope you are keeping well. I am thriving and happy. I have 12 wives now and will soon begin courting number 13. Why can't you catch me? You must feel so powerless and stupid and sad. Oh well. All the best. Red John"

4. From "Flame Red" (Episode 9)

(Ben Machado [Danny Nucci] and Kimball Cho [Tim Kang] in brief exchange)

Ben:
"I didn't know you guys were cops."
Kimball:
"You thought we were selling magazine subscriptions?"

5. From "Red Brick and Ivy" (Episode 10)

(Patrick Jane [Simon Baker] and Teresa Lisbon [Robin Tunney] talking about interviewing a suspect)

Patrick:
"Let's keep it casual to start with Sophie [Dr. Sophie Miller played by Elisabeth Röhm]. Let her relax. If she gets her guard up, we'll get nothing from her."
Teresa:
"You're very combative all of a sudden."
Patrick:
"Yeah, if she is guilty, she lied to me and I believed it. She fooled me."
Teresa:
"The ultimate sin."
Patrick:
"Yes it is."

Why do bioligist belive that gingers will be gone in the year 2060?

blake

Answer
According to genetic scientists redheads are becoming rarer and could be extinct in 100 years.
The current National Geographic magazine reports that less than 2 per cent of the world's population has natural red hair - created by a mutation in northern Europe thousand of years ago.
Global intermingling, which broadens the availability of possible partners, has reduced the chances of redheads meeting and so producing little redheads of their own.
Although it takes only one red-haired parent to produce ginger babies, two redheads obviously creates a much stronger possibility.
Some experts warn redheads could be gone as early 2060, but others say the gene can be dormant in the reproductive system for generations before returning.
National Geographic says the gene at first had the beneficial effect of increasing the body's ability to make vitamin D from sunlight. However, today's carriers are more prone to skin cancer and have a higher sensitivity to heat and cold-related pain.

Why are redheads gonna take over the world one day?

Steve

And in the battle for supremacy, who will win, the redheads or the ants?

Answer
Actually, I recently read that they are vanishing and will be extinct by 2060. Having red hair is a recessive gene. However, that finding is now being disputed as to the date. So in any event...not likely. The ants will bury us all.

Answer
i've gotten colored shampoos before, and they don't change the color or damage it. it protects your color and has ingredients that will enhance your natural brunette color.

i'm excited to hear that they finally made a line for colored hair thou. i love sunsilk, and i've been waiting for it

Why do people only focus on Blonde, Brunette, and red hair color... Never Black?

hellokitty

On some commercials like they sell shampoos that, boost your color in your hair, but they only make them for like Blonde brunette or rednead. Ever saw someone will long jet black hair thats naturl ? Awsome
I didnt know... But naw still yall im talking about jet jet jet night night black hair. When I think of brunette hair im only thinking of brown hair with highlights. Im not talking about ethic hair or anything. Mabye the color of indian hair. Really Black

Answer
Because in the color world, Black is not an interesting color by itself (I am not saying it's not pretty), it's just not "faceted" like reds, browns and blondes. There is so much more dimension in the above mentioned colors, so it really showcases all the tones of the color and the cut.

At all the trade shows, red hair color is "HOT", very popular, and always a new red being introduced. In the color world it's the hardest color to keep looking great, it's also the hardest color to remove.

I have black hair and I get highlights every now and then to break it up and add dimension.

But, black hair is in the brunette category, it's just a darker brunette.

And, yes Black hair IS Beautiful!

Looking for a natural orange/light-medium copper hair color?

Its Not Me

I want to dye my hair; my hair is a darker strawberry blonde. I'm looking to dye it anywhere from light/bright copper orange to light/medium auburn. I want to look like a redhead, but not a deep burgundy red.
I'm also looking for a dye that's semi-permanent, and/or one that doesn't have lots of harsh chemicals (ammonia-free if possible?)
Plus tell me where to find them?thank you

Answer

Some color charts:

Bear in mind that this color is really high maintenance.

I don't know where to get semi-permanent dye because I don't live in your country.

Hope I've helped

looking for a particular shade of red hair dye?

YaniMyd

I want to dye my hair a dark brownish red.
nothing too unatural looking. I prefer darker shades but not too dark that you cant see it's red.

can you provide a picture or at home hair dye product with the name of the colour?
Also, do i have to bleach my hair lighter before dying it red because my hair is almost jet black right now?

Thank youâ¥

Answer
Try Loreal Excellence Creme 4R Dark Auburn or Loreal Healthy Look 6R Reddish Brown.
You won't have to bleach your hair, but the results won't be as dramatic because of your black hair.
Go to a store like Target or Walmart, and look at the hair coloring kits. Find the color you like, and look at the side of the box. There should be a chart of what your hair will look like after you dye your natural hair color (black, dark brown, etc.). However, some colors aren't recommended for some hair colors so double-check to make sure your black hair is suitable for the dye you are looking for.
Hope this helps! Good luck! :)

Need professional advice on hair colour/extensions please...?

Dione

I purchased Foxy Locks extensions in Mahogany (like cheryl cole) here is the link for colour

http://foxylocksextensions.com/item_47/Deluxe-20-Clip-In-Remy-Human-Hair-Extensions-Mahogany-Red-33.htm

I got them on ebay as they were cheap and thinking I could dye my own hair the same colour, except my hair is dark brown/red and the extensions are a lot lighter so I think i would have to bleach my hair which is too much time and money and I'd love to be able to wear my extensions on xmas day, so to be safe (and as I cannot afford a hairdresser) can I dye my hair and extensions the same colour with hair dye from a shop and if so what would be best to use to get both an even same colour, which brand, what colour, semi or permanent? please help, thank you

Answer
I used L'oreal Casting Creme Gloss dye, in Black Cherry, and its SORTA-ish kinda turned out red. Its really, really, dark red, but in certain lights in nice. Its just to dark for me. HOWEVER, when I first did it, I left it on five mins shorter, and it was like that colour. But if you went darker, it would look like mahogonay highlights :)
Or, ofc, you could just get the mahogony casting creme gloss. :) it leaves you hair sleek and shiny! :D

Are babies born with red hair??

Q. or is it blonde first and then go red??

Answer
I was born with red hair, and then it turned blond when I was about 2, go figure. Actually, the real answer is that babies can be born with any hair color, and it can change or stay the same. My husband was born with red hair, and it's still red to this day. My father had red hair until he was in his mid-thirties and then it turned dark brown!

The fact of the matter is that scientists have yet to pinpoint the gene(s) responsible for hair changing colors, and why it can happen at all kinds of different ages. It is widely accepted, though, that hair changing color drastically is in itself genetic (my father and I both had hair that changed color drastically although at different times in our lives). So, if anyone in the mother or fathers family's had the "hair color change" phenomenon, then it is possible it will change. Then again, it may not.

Will my baby have red hair?

marleyy

I have auburn hair (red/brown) and my boyfriend has red hair. Does that mean we will have a red headed baby? Neither one or my parents has red hair but I think my boyfriends dad had red hair. Also I have brown eyes and he has blue eyes. Will my baby be more likely to have brown Or blue eyes? by the way I am expecting I am 21 weeks pregnant.

Answer
the fact you both have red hair dose not mean your children will, my birthdad has red hair my birthmam has blonde/brown and I ended up with very very dark brown.

Hair and eye colour are not ganetical although people think they are, I found this out when I studied them in my hair and makeup qualifactions.

Make-up colors for brown-red hair and slate-gray eyes?!?

bookworm12

Whenever I wear makeup, especially eye-shadow, it makes the skin under my eyes look like it doesn't match the rest of my skin.

It's really difficult for me to find colors that accentuate my eyes without making the skin under them look gray/blue, too. No good going around looking like I have a permanent bruised eye!

If I wear the wrong shade of pink eye-shadow, it clashes with my hair, too...

Any suggestions?

Thank you! :)

Answer
Use copper tinged lipstick.
Use copper shade of blush.
Green eyeshadow is beautiful for brown-red hair.
Place a small amount of green eyeliner on your bottom eyelid.
You could go extreme by using a eggshell color as well.
Copper eyeshadow is also very, very attractive. It is my favorite shade to mix and blend, makes the eyes look good, no matter what color.
Your color doesn't have to actually match the rest of your skin. Just go head and draw attention to your eyes.

Slate-gray eyes - most people would suggest going with light blues or light grays, but I believe you probably have already done that.
I have a brown eye and a blue eye, really, so I quit worrying about the colors a long time ago.
Don't be afraid to experiment. Yes, by all means, stay away from pink for your blush. Agree with you about that.

I am sure you will get an answer from hairdresser (a name on line) who will give you all sorts of tips but you cannot email her and she claims to be an expert, so....just letting you know.

Will my daughter have red hair? What color eyes?

Laniah

My husband had red/orange hair and eyes that change from green/hazel/blue, I have light brown/blonde and light blue eyes. But all of my fully biological sisters have some kind of red hair (red red, orange, strawberry). I want to know how likely it is that my daughter has red hair and what is the plausable eye color?

Answer
You carry the recessive gene for red hair, and a dominant blonde. Your husband carries two recessive for red hair, so there is a 50/50 chance of her having red hair. As for eyes, his are likely hazel with a different varient, you have double recessive light blue, so there is a very low chance of blue eyes, more likely to be Hazel.
