Is it okay to use volume 10 developer when going to a darker hair color?

My natural and current hair color is a light to medium brown. I want to dye my hair to a dark brown color. I've only used 20-30 volume developer, but was told that that is not necessary when I am only wanting to deposit color. So my question is: Is it okay to use only 10 volume developer when going from light-medium brown to dark brown?

I've used 10 volume before when my hair was colored red & I wanted part of it black. It worked just fine for me. Good luck.

Previously, when adding blond highlights to my brown hair, I have just used a solution of half Clairol Powder Bleach / half 40 Cream Developer. Iâm wondering if I can add actual hair color to the mix to get different colored highlights than just plain bleached-out blond results. For example, if I blend the bleach mixture with a reddish hair-dye, would I get strawberry blond results? And if so, would I still use the Volume 40 Developer?

no, when I bleached my hair to add hot pink I didn't wash the bowl good enough and just that little bit of bleach in a lot of hot pink dye made it a reaaaaalllllllly light pink

Do you have to re-use a developer when your red hair color fades to get it the same color?

I'm thinking of dying my hair red. My concern is what I should do to get it back to the same color when it fades. Should I re-use a developer to lighten it or will it be ok? If i dont have to then what dye should I use to retouch red hair? Plz help. Thank you.

no. if your developer is over 10 vol then it is lightening your hair, and if on the first dye it has been lightened enough, when you redye you should be using either the same dye with a low vol developer like 10 vol, or a vegetable dye (like special effects or directions)
it depends on what red you are going for but it you want proper red then i suggest affinage bred for your hair the first time then just the roots and use a vegetable dye to rede the fading parts

How can I get temporary hair color to wash completely out of my hair? It was supposed to wash out after 8-12.

I used a temporary hair color (red) that was supposed to wash out after 8 to 12 shampoos, but after 3 weeks or more it still hasn't washed out completely. My roots are still red! Does anyone have a cheap or easy solution to get it to come out of my roots? I don't want to spend a lot of money having the salon help me with this problem. I've washed my hair twice a day hoping that would help and it hasn't.

I'm assuming you have very light hair--red is notorious for washing out quickly because the pigment molecules are so big that they can't fully penetrate the hair shaft, so this is a very rare problem.

Anyway, ideally you should really go to a salon to strip your hair, but if you want to DIY, there IS a way to do it (but proceed with caution)

Go to a beauty supply store, get powdered bleach and a 10 volume developer and a shade of neutral toner.

Firstly, try the toner; it may counteract the red enough so you won't have to use the bleach. If it doesnt work, apply to your roots and be VERY vigilant about how fast the bleach is working. It'll get the red out, but you don't want to overbleach your roots, either--it'll look weird. To finish, tone the roots.

For future reference, if you have very light hair it doesnt matter if a color is permanent or wash out; it'll tend to stick around for awhile.

Im not sure, but i think developer bleaches hair, i mean the second ingredient is hydrogen peroxide. I want to dye part of my blond hair red again (the blond was an accident). Can i just put on the red hair color and skip the developer?

I bleached my hair a few days ago to blonde and it's an orangeish color and it's a tad brassy. I have a red hair color that I'm willing to put on my hair but I don't want it to be TOO bright. I have 20 and 40 developer and keep in mind my hair is NOT fully a blonde color. It has a bit of an orange/goldish tint. Which would be best?

If you are going darker or staying the same level you use 10 volume.
If you are going up to 2 levels lighter you use 20 volume.
If you are going 3 levels lighter you use 30 volume.
If you are going 4 levels lighter you use 40 volume.

Keep in mind 30 and 40 volume developer are very strong and harsh on your hair and scalp. For some people it will actually give you a chemical burn on your scalp. Most manufacturers recommend these not be used for on the scalp application.
