Can I dye my hair red over my dark brown dyed hair?

I dyed my hair dark brown 2 months ago and my blonde roots are coming in now and my hair has lightened into a lighter shade of dark brown. I also cut it as well. I was wondering if I can dye my hair red over my recently dyed brown hair and if it will also come out?

Answer
All hair coloring tends to fade (even the permanent dyes). You can put the red over your dyed color. Just be warned that it may not look exactly like it does on the box. You also need to know that your roots will be lighter than the rest.

Hi, I want to dye my hair a vibrant burgundy, maybe even red like in this http://www.wkgc.org/local/images/JossStone1.jpg picture. It is currently dark brown. Am I going to have to lighten it beforehand? I have dyed my hair a lot in the past but never lightened it with product before dyeing it.

If your hair is real dark brown, then yes, you probably would want to.
I have dark brown hair too, and I got it dyed red / Burgundy, and yes, they had to bleach my hair beforehand.
But then again, I only got it in some places, (bangs and some highlights) not the whole head.
If your hair is dark you would probably definitely want to lighten it a bit if you want the colour to really show.

What is the best dark red hair dye?

Right now I have bright red hair , I used vampire red from manic panic. I like the color, but I want something more natural and not so fire truck red. I've been reading reviews for different hair dyes but can't decide. Thankss in advance

I use to color the underneith of my hair a pretty red color and after trying a few different colors trying to get rid of the orangey red color and get a prettier, deeper red color that wasn't so warm, I found that Ion has nice red colors. The people working there can usually help you out too!

How will dark red dye look on bleached blonde hair?(Please read description first)?

Okay so, I plan on dip dying my hair to red using this l'oreal dye trial.hk/upload/product/reports/2012/11/28/20121128170536245.jpg . My hair is naturally dark brown. That dye was designed for dark hair and the packaging stated that it will turn as bright red as the girl's hair in the packaging even if you have dark hair. I've learned from reviews that the colour is only as red as the girl's in the packaging under sunlight. Well, I want mine to be very red so I'm guessing I should bleach it. But since it's a dye designed for dark hair, will it turn out okay on bleached hair?

I knew a girl who has dark brown hair and she bleach like the outer layer so like its bleach blonde but then under its still her natural hair (like Niall Horan's hair) and she dyed it red. But she died it like a darker red...so maybe you should just dye it a darker red and then get bright red highlights donut will still look light

I have really dark brown hair, it's almost black. I put red hair dye on it yesterday and
as I suspected, it just made my blonde roots red. Is there a way to get it to be red without bleaching it? I was thinking about just putting blonde on it and then it would turn an orange color and then put the red back in it, but I'm not sure if this is a good idea. Any suggestions?
