How badly does hair dye damage your hair?

I have always wanted to get highlights in my hair so I finally asked my parents if I could and they agreed. However, I don't know if my hair salon does tip dying. So I told my parents that there are YouTube videos explaining how to tip dye hair. They are concerned if I might damage my hair. I only want to do the tips of my hair so it's not the scalp or anything. I have already done some research on it. I have learned that it depends on how light you want to go from your current color. My hair is very dark brown, it gets mistaken for black hair often, and I want to have red hair dye in it. May someone please help? I would be greatly appreciative.

I knew a girl that dyed her hair a different colour every week and in a year she had killed all her hair. If you just want to do the tips I think you will be OK. Talk to some people who have already done it maybe they have suggestion. Hope this helps

What is my percentage chance of getting skin cancer?

I'm 17 and i have a very pale complexion with tons of freckles and I don't have red hair. I have never gotten tan just severely burned every time I go out in the sun for more than an hour. I've had about 20 bad blistering sunburns in my life. And sun poisoning like twice I think. What are my odds? Just to calm myself down a bit

I'm going to stick my neck out a bit and tell you I don't have any factual data but I do have personal experience. I got my first skin cancer at age 60 after spending my life in Florida camping and going to the beach and not using sunscreen. I too have fair skin, freckles and moles, blue eyes and brown hair, but my father had red hair and he had skin cancer and I have his skin type.

Everyone is at risk for skin cancer and you sow the seeds in your youth by going to the beach and baking, spending hours outdoors without protection and so forth. The good news is that early detection is easy. Whenever you go to the doctor for your check up, have him or her look at any spots you're concerned about. I know 40 years sounds like a long way off, but you can wear sunscreen and a hat when you're out and protect yourself now while you are young. I now go to the doctor regularly and he zaps those spots before they get started. I plan to live for a long time yet. Good luck.

How to remove dark pigment from hair being dyed?

I used to have bright red hair that was the result of my natural light brown hair dyed red. I dyed it very, very dark brown for halloween and it's still pretty dark; when I tried red dye over it again it just got darker. Is there anything besides bleaching that I can do to remove this residual pigment?

Dyeing your hair even more, will only take you longer to get to your desire hair color.


You can do one of two things, to remove most of that dye.
1. By using Tide detergent with shampoo

2. By shampooing you hair mix with a bit of Dawn.

Here's an example what hair stripping will do to your hair.

Hair strippers are chemical treatments which are intended to strip out artificial color pigment with less risk or damage to the hair. The chemicals used are called reducing agents.
Certain 'metal' strippers containing sodium sulphoites are sold for reducing hair dyed with metallic dyes, as these dyes react violently with tint stripper containing hydrogen peroxide-the subsequent reaction may cause so much heat that the hair gets dissolved.
Example: So i just put Colour B4 on my hair to try and remove my black dye so my hair it's natural colour which is dark blonde. so i've just dried my hair and there's still dark patches on it. and in some places it's gone ginger. i have garnier pre lightener. should i use it? there's no way my hair could look worse than it is now lol.

Before bottled shampoo & hair products were invented, mid 60's, in Asia, all we've ever used was a bar of soap for body, hair & laundry. Just make sure you rinse well. Try that if that works better!

Is it possible to recolour platinum blonde hair?

Q. I have natural red hair, that has been bleached platinum blonde. It has been blonde for 10 months now, and I am fed up with it. I want to dye it back to my original colour, but my hairdresser said it is impossible so rebleached my roots.
Help! I am bored of blonde!

It is completly possable it just won't earn her as much money because your not paying for a bleach and toner anymore just a simple color.

Wait for your hair to grow out about an inch an then find another stylist tell her you want your hair matched to your regrowth. If your hair is in a healthy condition and do not have all color completly bleached out it will be VERY simple and should only take 45-60 minutes depending on how fast the sylist can apply color (it is generally a half hour processing). If it is bleached beyond what it should have been then too much pigment has been removed and a base color will have to be added to make the red appear natural. Not to worry it won't take too long and you can most certainly have it back!
