How often should I wash/shampoo hair to keep the red in?

I know red is the hardest to keep...but I'm hoping there's a way to get it to stay as long as possible..

I heard washing in cold water keeps color in better. And to shampoo only a few times a week.

I just need to clarify;
By wash do they mean wash AND shampoo in cold water?
Or is it okay to get my hair wet in warm water, as long as I only wash it in cold water?
And should I only condition when I shampoo? Or condition more often? And..when I condition should I use cold water as well?
..And, do dry shampoos work? Since I can't shampoo every day..do dry shampoos make hair look/feel non-oily?

Sorry, I am hair dumb! :) So many questions.

red hair is tricky but there are certain shampoos and conditioners made for that color,you can find at any retail store.Basically these products stain the hair with red which helps keep it looking radiant also you can use shampoos made for color hair which do not strip the hair as much.I suggest shampooing every other day or every third day exspecially in winter time,the dry air sucks the life out of hair,skin,and nails also condition every time. If you have fine hair and gets oily easy use a water based spray on cond. after shampooing,Coarse or drier hair use heavier cond.and leave on 3 to 5 min.s. As for the temperture of water I suggest warmer water for shampooing(it opens the cuticle)rinse with warm then put cond.on then rinse with cooler water(it closes cuticle trapping the cond.in where you need it) hope this helps

Dyed Red Hair Shampoo HELP!?

I just had my hair dyed red and everyone is telling me its going to fade badly. I was looking online for tips and have found quite a few. I was wondering can I still use my favorite shampoo the Olive Branch I'll list the ingredients.

Oh yes, red hair is the worst for fading.. i had red hair all winter changing different shades every 2 weeks since it kept fading (from bright fire red, auburn, to dark cherry) I was using the John Freida for red hair, which helped slightly but the best thing you can do is cut back shampooing as much as you can to 2-3 times a week(obviously you can shower, just tie up your hair) and buy a dry shampoo to keep it from looking greasy(tresseme makes 2 cheap ones that work well)

whats going to make it fade in the shampoo you have is the Sodium Laureth Sulfate... they make sulfate free shampoo's for coloured hair, you see them everywhere now(loreal has a nice one).. your shampoo will probably be fine though if you cut back washing your hair like i said!

P.S = just remembered something that helped me really well was a protein filler in a red shade (you can get it in sallys, i had to ddrive to the USA to get mine!) you can add it to your dye when you colour, or even your conditioner!

I have fire truck red hair that I dyed yesterday; I plan on washing my hair tomorrow with cold water. I want to preserve my color as long as I can. What's the best shampoo to use?

Try not to wash your hair everyday either and donât stay under the sun for long, that makes hair color last less. Sulfate free shampoos are the best because those help the hair color to stay in for longer and they keep hair soft and healthy looking. I use the Pro Naturalâs argan oil shampoo and conditioner, plus I use the oil itself for after a shower because my hair gets brittle easily and I dye it once in a while.

I recently dyed my hair from medium/dark brown to red, it has changed a bit and in certain light its like a deep red but other than that it hasn't really gone red, although my roots are real bright, i was wondering if dying it again with a little brighter dye would change it? or is there anything like a shampoo i could use to make it a little more redder? :)

one thing you could do to get amazing red hair results without damaging your hair at all,
is get a manic panic color in any red and sit in your hair for about a four hours.

manic panic is a vegetable dye and it won't harm your hair in anyway.

when i went red, i had medium brown hair and i would apply pillarbox red by manic panic and i would put it in my hair for about three hours and i would randomly apply heat with a blow dryer,
and it would turn into a really vibrant red.
or you can use l'oreal hicolor for dark hair only in any of their reds, and mix with a 30 volume developer and it lightens your hair without bleach, and it comes out in a really vibrant red. you can manic panic and the l'oreal hicolor both at sally beauty.

Q. I used a red enhancing shampoo to help maintain my natural dark red hair. However, after several times of using it, my hair color is beginning to look a lot lighter. I just want to get my dark red undertone back. How can I do that?

just stop using the shampoo. Condition your hair with a mask treatment pack such as a deep hydrating conditioner pack. This will help raise the deposited color off your hair quicker, but rest assure your natural undertone is there and will come back in time. The deposited color is very quickly removed and no matter what brand you used, it is not permanent.

When does red hair dye start to fade?

Q. I just dyed my hair with "Very Auburn" by Loreal's Ferria,
and am planning on not washing it as frequently, in very cold water with shampoo that's for red hair.
it's like, a dark cherry red color and my natural hair color is like medium brown. however, i dyed my hair like a million times beforehand even though before the red it matched my natural roots, it went through lots of bleaching and dying beforehand.

Red hair dye is one of the hardest colours to maintain. It will almost always either turn orange or pink in a little over a week no matter if it is perm or not.
With your hair already being somewhat dark, it will probably wash out completely.
If you use the shampoo for the red hair it constantly refreshes your colour (beware your shower will look like you killed someone!) so that will help a lot but it wont keep it forever. ^^
