I have been coloring my hair for years so please do not tell me to got to a stylist because I cannot afford it. Would manic panic in vampire red suit this hair color or is there something closer?

Go to Sally's and check out ions reds they are really rich colors! Or if you have dark hair loreal hicolor is awesome for dying your hair red, it gives it a beautiful color and lasts longer than a semi permanent would such as manic panic... Stay away from box dyes!

To correct ashy tones you'll need to use a colour that has golden tones in it. Ash is a blue pigment and the gold (orange) pigments counteract it. Opposites counteract eachother. I'm naturally a ginger and I want to dye part of my hair lavender. Can I do this without using bleach?

I have fairly light red hair with some orange dyed at the tips (ombre but it's faded now) I want to do the same but with a temporary lavender I got from Sally's. The brand is Ion. I really don't want to bleach my hair, but I know that yellow is the opposite of purple which means my orange hair could turn brown with the dye. Anyone have experience with this? Do you think it will work out?

What is the best way to dye my Brown hair red at home using over the counter products?

Please don't say "go to a professional" as I know that that is always the best option. At this time, I would prefer to do it at home for financial reasons. I have dyed my hair many times at home successfully when going darker brown. I am mainly wondering 1. Since my hair is a medium brown now, will I need to lighten it for a red to show up? 2. If so, what are the steps to complete that process? 3. What all will I need? (I'm more interested in buying things from Sally's then just buying a boxed color at Walmart and hoping for the best.)

step one: your gonna have to buy bleach (hair bleach) and get you hair a blonde color this my take up to 45 minutes depending on how dark you hair is

step two: rinse out the bleach thoroughly!! and wash hair with shampoo and conditioner, blow dry hair

step three: put in red dye and follow instructions on box

I have red hair and a pixie cut, and want to go platinum blonde. My hairdresser says to go that blonde it will take at least 2 more sessions before she will dye it fully. So that comes to 2 months with awful foils scattered through my hair! I understand that she needs to take my current hair colour down to dye it, but i thought the process would be much quicker these days.

NO.

You have short hair, so it's obvs gna b a quicker process. You DON'T need foils. You can do it yourself or go to another haircolorist. You don't have to wait 2 months. She just says that because it be more money for her and/or she's covering her ass (in case your hair falls out or something awful happens).


Here's what I would do:
Depending on how RED (vibrant red) your haircolor is, use a haircolor remover. Remove as much of the red as possible. Then, bleach your hair until it's at least yellow...but preferably keep bleaching until it's PALE yellow. Once you hit yellow or pale yellow, use a platinum hairdye -or- use a cool tone toner. Make sure you condition before and after you go platinum. Make sure you have a full-sized bottle of conditioner, a full-sized bottle of DEEP conditioner, a full-sized bottle of LEAVE-IN conditoner, a reconstructor (depending on your hair's health). Use the conditioner after you shampoo. Use the Deep conditioner weekly. Use the Leave-In conditioner before you blowdry or use hot hair tools. Try not to "tease" your hair as much after blonding it.

PS - I bet that blonde pixie look is gna look so cute/great!

I am dark skinned, about the color of a Hershey bar, and 14 years old. My hair is jet black. Sometimes I wish I had a fair skin tone simply so that I could experiment with hair color. Would that color auburn look unnatural or just not look right? I want my hair color to compliment me, of course.
Oh and if you have any suggestions for what hair color might look right on me, feel free to tell me. Brown looks terrible on me, though---during the summer my hair turns brown and I have to dye it back black because it's the exact same color as my skin and it just looks terrible.

i think a dark auburn would look nice if you wanted to experiment and don't think you need to be any lighter! i think brown skin is the most beautiful skin tone and i'm white! lol

So, basically, the past couple of years, I've been dying my hair. First it was black, and for three years, it changed colors constantly, ranging in all colors of the rainbow. The last I dyed my hair was in July of 2012, and it is now the 24th of February, 2013, and I dyed it back to my natural color. I'm surprised I lasted that long without doing SOMETHING to the color. My mother fell in love with the brown again, but I really want to dye my hair red, and she won't let me because she argues that brown is such a 'gorgeous' color on me and that I'd look horrible with red hair, even though I've had red hair on more than one occasion, and it was one of her favorite colors. Please, just tell me how to persuade her otherwise. I miss my crazy colored hair.

dye it black with one red streak in it. or try a different shade of brown. try dark brown with light caramel highlights. brown hair is gorgeous and red is kind of out of season now. but its your choice. you can add highlights and lowlights to brown hair or try ombre hair. i know someone with brown hair and pink peek-a-boo highlights. its better to just go natural and listen to your mom.
