I was born with red hair which is now dark blonde. My husband has black hair and is Italian. My father and most of my family on that side have red hair. My mother has light brown hair. His father has black and his mother has brown/auburn hair. His family on both sides also have a history of redheads.

You have two recessive alleles for red hair colour, and although your husband has dark hair he may also be carrying a recessive allele. If he passes this on to your child it will have red hair.
