10 points! What color hair dye should i use to help me get dark red hair ? (pics)?

Diammond

my hair is meduim dark brown now
http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2009/08/13/article-0-05FE2363000005DC-475_233x320.jpg

Answer
Well it depends what type of red. I have dark brown hair naturally but dye it red with semi-perm dye... but I bleach it first. but I only bleach every 3 months, and my hair is at least 2 1/2 inches dark brown and I dye more often than that, so I dye the roots too. The roots end up tinted red, but not red-red. The brand of hair dye called Special Effects is the best for me... it would wash out after 3-6 weeks, less if you wash a lot. I mix 3 of the reds they offer... they offer 7.
It is the best brand, it's vegan, and it smells really yummy. no nasty chemicals, and it only takes 15 or so minutes to dye your hair.
You needn't use a blonde color if you don't mind having a dark red color.
The reds most likely won't lighten the color much, (so not bright red, but a dark red.. not much lighter looking than your natural hair) but will tint it red. It will wash out and your hair will be the same color as before.
Don't be afraid to go for it if it's what you want! And Special Effects does NOT damage your hair AT ALL!! It is conditioner based, so it's like a deep conditioner that dyes your hair.
I bleached my hair about 12x and my hair is still healthy(healthy again?) because of this dye!!!

If you use SFX over your hair, it should look like this(different depending on which red you use, but should look something similar- but perhaps lighter because of your hair color):

Is red hair exclusive to the scots/irish?

rott_oktob

Answer
red hair is commonly associated with people of British or Irish descent, although red hair is found in many other parts of the world.

Scotland is the country with the highest content of red haired people which includes approximately 13% of their population.

It is estimated that 2 to 5 percent of the population of the United States has red hair.

It occurs more frequently (between 2% and 6% of the population) in northern and western Europeans and at lower frequencies throughout other parts of Europe, Asia and Africa.

Approximately 1% to 2% of the total human population have red hair.

If i have red hair does that mean i have some Irish or Scottish blood?

Aricela

As far as i know im Mexican, Spanish , and Native American. I have natural red and blondish highlights and my eyes are a lighter brown than the rest of my family, and have a tiny bit of green in them. My skin is a little tan because i live in AZ but light compared to other Hispanics. Do you think i have some Irish or Scottish blood?

Answer
No.
Red hair appears in 1%-2% of the population; 2%-6% in the case of northwest European people, which includes Denmark, Sweden, Norway,...

Red hair is probably a product of genetic drift, so it's mostly a random mutation that does not have any adaptative advantages but causes no special harm to the bearer of the genes, so it survives.
There are cases of red hair in Africa as well, though in this case red hair IS a genetic disadvantage, which explains the much lower incidence of these genes in the black population (that comes from Africa).

What causes red hair?

Answer
The pigment pheomelanin gives red hair its distinctive color.
Red hair is associated with fair skin color because of low concentrations of eumelanin throughout the body of those with red hair.This lower melanin-concentration confers the advantage that a sufficient concentration of important Vitamin D can be produced under low light conditions.
The genetics of red hair, appear to be associated with the melanocortin-1 receptor (MC1R), which is found on chromosome 16.Red hair can originate from several different changes on the MC1R-gene. If one of these changes is present on both chromosomes then the respective individual is likely to have red hair. This type of inheritance is described as an autosomal recessive mode of inheritance. Even if both parents do not have red hair themselves, both can be carriers for the gene and have a redheaded child.

Red Hair genetics Question?

gwynn

So I have medium/dark brown hair. I have 2 sisters who are red hair, fair skinned. We have the same parents, my mom was blonde and my dad strawberry blonde. How did I get such dark hair?

Answer
The genetics behind red hair inheritance is a little different than the inheritance of other traits. With red hair a person can inherit the trait even if both parents do not exhibit the trait which is not entirely true in your case because your dad has strawberry blonde hair which is a variation of red headedness. Inheriting red hair is controlled by the melanocortin-1 receptor (MC1R) gene. Which essentially regulates the amounts of melanin in the body. This is why consequentially people with red hair tend to also have fair skin, freckles and a variety of other pigment related traits characteristic of people of irish, scandinavian or higher latitude populations and their decedents. In people with this gene they tend to have more of the pigment pheomelanin than do people with other hair colors who tend to have more eumelanin instead. Both of your parents are likely to be carriers of the MC1R gene but do not have read hair because the necessary mutations that need to occur on the chromosome haven't occurred. Since your mom is blonde it is most likely that you inherited your dark hair from your dad. A number of genes determine hair color and chances are you are a carrier of the gene for red hair as well.

Celebrity wears two-tone hair dye all the time, trying to grow out their dye. They call that the ombre style.

Call the 1-800# found on the box of dye or email them, (to find #, go online & search the brand if you don't have the box) they're the hair color experts they can advice you best. Style meets chemistry meets biology: We're talking hair coloring.

Playing with chemicals is not like playing with clothes, or doing a manicure, there are penalties for playing chemicals in the lab. Even hair color experts at the salon are not rocket scientists, they do a bang up dye jobs to their clients or their own hair.

Chemicals can enter the body through the skin.
> > > Hair dye chemicals linked to cancer
London, Feb 20, 2013 I've been saying that since 2009.
Hair dyes, which include home hair colouring kits and those used at pricey salons, are linked to deadly cancer-causing chemicals, warn scientists. In 2009 the Mail revealed that women who used hair dyes more than nine times a year had a 60% greater risk of contracting blood cancer.
A year later the European Commission banned 36 hair dyes which put long-term users at risk of bladder cancer. < < < <â¨

The allergic reaction was caused by a well-known brand of semi-permanent hair dye Chloe used to turn her hair black for a Halloweâen party. . . . . called for beauty bosses to ban hair dye chemical PPD (para-phenylenediamine) from the shelves. 11-04-11

The chemical is not new and is present in a number of brands of dark hair colours, acting to help adhere the dye to the hair so that it doesn't wash out. Itâs made from coal tar and is used in both permanent and semi-permanent hair colours. Itâs well-known to be a cause of serious allergic reactions -- including something called contact dermatitis which can lead to rashes, blisters, and open sores.
PPD is sometimes added to black henna tattoos and that using them is not safe. Allergic reactions usually begin within two to 10 days following application. One bad reaction can lead to sensitivities to other products such as hair dye, sunblock and some types of clothing dyes. Oftentimes, it's using the product a second or third time. Skin specialist Najjia Ashraf reveals that there are barely any dyes that donât contain this toxin; even the ones who claim they donât, are not being honest. âBig brands often escape the blame by suggesting they are ammonia-free. However, ammonia and PPD are two very different things and PPD is present in nearly every dye because it is what gives off the colour,â she explains.

Google: A 38-year old mother left in a coma after using hair dye. SHE DYED HER HAIR MANY TIMES BEFORE, USING THE SAME BRAND. The British woman who went into coma after a reaction to hair dye has died after a year. Updated 11-25-12. The woman suffered a heart failure, struggled for breath and became unconsciousness. Her family blamed paraphenylenediamine, a chemical found in hair colour. Her family has now called for paraphenylenediamine to be banned from home dye kits. In 2000, a 38-year-old Indian-origin woman from Birmingham, Narinder Devi, died after an allergic reaction to hair dye.

Permanent black hair dye is linked to causing leukemia and lymphomas.

Would red ombré hair suit me?

Ruthless

This is me:
http://s1161.photobucket.com/user/moon_rising/media/CarryOn/2012-12-29210447_zpsf550a43e.jpg.html

And this is how I want my hair:
http://woohair.com/large/Red_Ombre_Hair_8.jpg

I'm just a little scared because I've never dyed my hair before and I don't know if that color would flatter my skin tone or not, and I don't know if it'd look good with straight-across bangs either. Help please? I've got an appointment with the hair dresser tomorrow and I can't decide if I just want ombré hair fading from my natural color to light brown, or red to blonde.

Answer
I think the red would suit you. I would go for the Ombre effect later just to let your hair recuperate form the first dye. Pervona make the best red hair dyes so make sure you find a salon that uses this brand. DO NOT USE BOX Color this will destroy your hair! Your stylist will have to go though various steps to fix the box color if something goes wrong and you decide to go to a salon afterwords. (You can not put professional color over box color, The ammonia will burn your hair off!) Make sure you get a great color safe shampoo also for red is the fastest when it comes to fading. Other then that I think the red would suit you very nice.
Hope this helps

I'm actually working on this particular painting now, and have been for quite some time, on and off.
Here's a link to a work in progress page I made for this painting on my website.

I figure another few weeks and it'll be completed...then I'll be able to continue with the Rembrandt; which is next to go back on the easel.

Hope this helped you out.

Red head origins that aren't Ireland?

Anyone know what countries - other than Ireland - produce natural redheads?

Answer
Today, red hair is most commonly found at the western fringes of Europe; it is associated particularly with the people of the British Isles (although Victorian era ethnographers claimed that the Udmurt people of the Volga were "the most red-headed men in the world").[6]

Redheads constitute approximately four percent of the European population.[7] Scotland has the highest proportion of redheads, as 13 percent of the population has red hair and approximately 40 percent carries the recessive redhead gene.[8] Ireland has the second highest percentage; as many as 10 percent of the Irish population have red, auburn, or strawberry blond hair.[9] It is thought that up to 46 percent of the Irish population carries the recessive redhead gene. Red hair reaches frequencies of up to 10 percent in Wales.[10] In England, the county of Cornwall, the far north, near the Scottish border, and the counties of Nottinghamshire and South Yorkshire also have significant proportions of redheads.[citation needed]

In the United States, anywhere from two to six percent of the population is estimated to have red hair. This would give the U.S. the largest population of redheads in the world, at 6 to 18 million, compared to approximately 650,000 in Scotland and 420,000 in Ireland.

Red or reddish-tinged hair is also found in other European populations particularly in the Nordic and Baltic countries as well as parts of the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Germany, Russia and South Slavic countries.

The Berber populations of northern Algeria and Morocco have occasional redheads.[11]

In Asia, darker or mixed tinges of red hair can be found sporadically from Northern India, northern Middle East (such as Iran, Lebanon and the countries of the Levant) and in rare instances in Japan[12] and the South Pacific. Red hair can be found amongst those of Iranian descent, such as the Pashtuns, Persians, Lurs & Nuristanis.

In Argentina people with red hair also make up a portion of the population, due to British and Irish immigration during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.[13]

Online/LDR with a Cancer male..is he losing interest?

Rose

Where do I begin? I've had online "flings" before, where we chatted on IM and said we liked being together ect in the past. But thats as far as they went. Those usually always last just about a month then die.

Well Dec 5th I started talking to a guy. I live in Florida, him in California. We met off of Youtube of all websites. I made a comment on a Bing Crosby video that I was born in the wrong era. He replied to my comment saying "I feel the same way" I didn't think anything of it then. Then I saw his screen name had the word Fiddle in it. I'm mostly Irish and the Fiddle is a big thing to me. I clicked on his screen name thinking I'll see a middle aged gray haired man...but no, it was a guy in his mid 20's about my age. I left a comment on his page, saying it was so cool he played the fiddle. The next day I got a personal message on Youtube from him, first we talked about his Fiddle playing, and that we both liked the same style music. 1940's big ban, crooners, and old Country like bob wills, Eddie Arnold, and even Woody Guthrie. It was so cool to talk to someone my age, throw these names out and they actually knew who they were. We both also love the old Black & White Movies and like the same Actors like Jimmy Stewart, and John Wayne, and Gregory Peck. After a week of this, he asked if I had a myspace. After just one day of emailing on myspace, he asked if we can chat on the phone.
That First 2 weeks we would talk on the phone every night for 2-3 hours and never run out of things to say. We'd text each other like 20 times a day...never would 2 hours go by without one texting the other. The chemistry was just amazing, and we even had a few telepathic moments. Like I suggested he should see the movie Shop Around the Corner. The night he watched it, I got off work, I waited patiently for him to finish the movie. When I couldn't wait any longer I called him, I was gonna ask "how much longer?" instead he says "how did you do that?? I just finished the movie like 10 seconds ago!"
Another one..when I think of our future together for some reason the walls in our house are red..don't know why...so after 2 weeks of this I told him, and he said the hair on him stood up because he wants red walls.
We wanna live in the same part of the country, like to do the same stuff. We both used to be runners, I started running again, and so did he. If there was a such thing of a perfect match for me...he is it! After the first week he was set on using his next vacation time to come to Florida in April, and as of last night he still is.

That first month was great, every single morning he would text me good morning beautiful, and go to Youtube and share songs with me. He still texts me goodmorning..but its not goodmorning beautiful andf he doesn't send me videos on youtube anymore. He used to text me back right away. now not so much. he went from texting me 20 times a day to more like 5 times now. Saturday he recieved a card in the mail from me. It was the first thing I ever sent him. He said he got misty eyed and read it over and over. He really liked it!! Monday was the very first night we didn't talk on the phone since this started, because he was sick. Didn't talk Tuesday either. Last night we talked but for only 30 minutes. I am really worried that he's losing interest, and I'm trying to not text him all the time and look like I'm desperate. As of 3pm my time 12 noon his he text me once..I've text him 3 times. He went from texting me saying how much he missed me, and saying he loves me...to well hasn't done any of that in 3 days. I said I loved him yesterday and he said he loved me to, but its not the same as him saying it first. I expressed my concern about him waiting 4 months for me, but he asured me "Don't you worry about me" like he was for real.

I've never been this serious in a LDR or online relationship before so I'm not sure if this is a sure sign that its going down hill or just calming down? how do I get him interested in me again?

Answer
Don't worry, we cancers are very loyal and hardly ever lose interest in someone. Unless they do something mean. But even then, if they apologize, we'd still be likely to give them many more chances. Seriously, when they say Cling, they mean Cling! We hardly ever let go, unless there is rational reason to. We are quite rational actually. they say we go on feelings...but yes, ok what we do is that we give our feelings lots of importance. We're always aware of how we feel. But we can also ignore our temporary, fleeting feelings for the sake of common sense....aka IT'S TIME TO MOVE ON. So we do know when to move on. We just have strong feelings and strong attachments, so as long as the person is not horribly evil or has too much drama that we is making us drown in it, we will stand by you and always forgive you. (until it gets to be too much of coure. There should always be a line there, right?)

Remember, Cancer's teaching is "Love is devotion." Haha! so there's nothin' we do better!

Ok, I have a capricorn best friend, so I see the resemblance. She gets very sad and worried that i dont call her enough or hang out enough, and I just need some space and some time by myself. I really like spending time with myself. heehee. So she holds her feelings from me and one day explodes about them when we have a tiny misunderstanding about something insignificant, and I tell her, where did all this come from, you know? I had no idea she felt that way, and i if i had known, i wouldve done something about it a long time ago.

To us cancers, there is nothing, sweeter, nothing nicer, nothing that feels better, than to make someone ELSE feel better. So, yeah, now I'm calling her more, hanging out with her more. just because she needs it, you know? That's what makes her happy, and it's simple for me to do so it couldn't be any better than that.

What you really, urgently, desperately need to do..is tell him about it. That's what I would have given 100 dollars for my friend to have done for me, tell me sooner! So she wouldn't have had to suffer for so long. (Lol.) that's just terrible! Alright, so please, go ahead, tell him about it...he will probably be like, really i had no idea..i'm so sorry. Just be nice about it don't accuse him of anything like "you did this this this and this and you never do This. WHY?!" lol. Instead try "Listen I've been very worried lately that you're losing interest in me. This thought has been killing me! Will you please tell me if I'm worrying about absolutely nothing?! Please, it's really really killing me."

We respond very well to vulnerability. To asking for help, admitting feeling bad about oneself, admitting feeling worried, sad, hopeless desperate pathetic. Haha. We do respond very well to someone admitting their own vulnerability, being very honest about it. It's very attractive to us. We like to nurture! Remember! so let yourself be nurtured, and enjoy the ride :)

What are some good anime shows out there?

Chichi Ugo

So I'm really trying to find another anime series to watch but my search has come up with less results than I would like. I have already watched Seto no Hanayome and Shugo Chara and I'm looking for something kind of like them, funny yet still has some drama and romance worked in there. I REALLY loved Shugo Chara so I'm hoping to find something about as good as that.

Also if you don't mind, could you leave a short description of the show. Thanks!

Answer
Hmm School Days is "ok" not great, but it REALLY lacks COMEDY (there's no jokes at all). And "One Piece", "Naruto" and "Soul Eater"?? Those shows are NOTHING like what you asked for :/ really is that all some people watch, ninja / kung fu shows are the answer to every question ???

How about checking out :-

"Kaichou wa Maid-sama!" - school slice of life, comedy romance, very popular. Main heroine has to work in a maid cafe because she needs the money. She's also the bossy student president and doesn't want anyone to find out about her job - especially the boy she likes (duh).

"Kashimashi" (Yuri school comedy romance) - wimpy boy gets squashed by a UFO and the aliens rebuild him as a girl by mistake (he looked like one). ends up in love triangle with his 2 female friends.

"Nyan Koi!" is one made by the makers of "Seto no Hanayome" - high school boy gets cursed by a cat god, and has to help cats with their life-issues. Also has budding romance with a girl or 2. Typical "1 male and a bunch of girls he knows" type series, but fun.

"Onegai Teacher" - silly plot premise at the start, but great romance comedy show, boy is forced to marry his (alien) teacher to help her avoid being found out.

"Love Hina" - one of the classic "harem" romantic comedies, funny not too gross etc. great characters (i really do not like the dub voice actors at all though, recommend the subs)

"Ah My Goddess" - college boy gets "goddess" girlfriend due to a computer glitch in heaven (more or less). A lot less silly than it sounds.

"Tokyo Mew Mew" (this ones on my watch list) -
"On her first date with the cutest boy in school, Ichigo is zapped by a mysterious ray that scrambles her DNA with that of the endangered Iriomote wildcat. The next day, Ichigo discovers that she has developed the agility (and occasionally the ears and tail) of a cat, as well as the power to transform into a pink-haired superheroine, Mew Ichigo. Natural red head coloured my hair medium red brown and its to dark for my skin?

hair help

Iam a natural red head and decided to colour my hair once again with a medium red brown hair dye. It came out really dark and when i go in some lighting the red really shows and i really dont like it, I tried washing it out but its really to dark for my skin what other options do i have?

Answer
You could Go to the salon and get it stripped out. Depends if it is permanent or semi permanent or temporary, if it is semi or less, it will eventually wash out. If it is permanent, you'll have to wait for your roots to grow out, get it stripped, or bleach it and put a different colour over the top.

Hazel eyes, fair skin , dark brownish red hair What colors should i stay away from and colors i should keep?

buddhagirl

I have hazel eyes , dark brown hair , fair skin. I usually wear a dark trio purple for eyeshadow, black mascara only on top lash and maybelline shiny licious lip gloss a light pink. I use maybelline and rimmel london. what are the best colors to wear for makeup day and evening.

I wear pink , black , just started to wear green. I love shorts and skirts I am 5 foot 1 so something long looks crazy. navy blue.
my question Should i lay off the black. and do you think i could wear white and yellow.
Another question why in the hell did the bottom of my legs turn kinda yellow from the jergens natural glow and my face did not.
should i keep putting the lotion on and it should go away or try something else. If you need a picture of me look at my yahoo 360 page. I think that is it. one more thing i hate eyeliner it always gives me black eyes. and i use concealer nyc stick.

http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x238/buddhagirl2007/DSC00535.jpg

Answer
I'm the same - hazel/green eyes, brown hair, fair skin. I use the Jergens natural glow, too, but it's never made me yellow. You might want to try something else or try a lighter shade. As far as make-up colors, I wear black liner on the inner, lower rim of my eyes, purple pencil along my upper lash line and black mascara. It does get a little smudgy, but I think that looks cool and it makes my eyes pop. I wear either a sheer mauve lip gloss or this pot gloss by Kiehl's called Golden Berry. It looks really red in the pot, but it goes one in a very light reddish color. For clothing colors, I find that black, white, browns and purples are most flattering. I typically don't wear much blue or green and I hate how yellow and orange look on me. Just try some new things and see how you feel. In the end, it's how you feel in what you wear that maters.

How do I get bright red hair from dark brown hair?

Jenny

My hair is dark brown, very long and straight, it's not very thin like blonde hair, but it's also not very thick, it's just medium I guess :P

I don't have enough money to do it at the hairdressers, even the cheapest hairdressers still want a lot of money for bleaching and dying, so I have to do it myself.

So, how do I turn my dark brown hair bright right? :)

My current hair is close to this colour:
http://www.stylishhairstyles.net/women-hairstyles/dark-brown-hair-for-new-trends-2011-1.jpg

And I want it to be this colour:
http://i47.tinypic.com/2w54w0p.png

Thankyou so much for any help! :-)

P.S. I'm willing to and expecting to bleach my hair :P

Answer
You don't have to bleach your hair :D
You can buy
"Loreal HiColor Highlights in Magenta or Red."
I suggest red for the color you desire (:
It's for dark hair only and all you need is a bowl and some volume developer.
You mix the developer with the dye and there you go! C:
The color comes out beautiful (:
You can buy it at Sally's Beauty.

So, I'm thinking about getting my hair done soon. But, I don't know what I want. Try to suggest some that would look good with my face shape and that stuff. Pictures would be good too, but if you can't find any it's ok. Also, I was thinking about doing my hair a red color. Which shade though? I have these that I like:

Answer
the first shade of red is my favourite and the colour which i've been wanting for a while. the only problem with it is, im not sure whether it would suit you too well.
you have lovely straight hair (if its naturally like that). it would look better if you got some layers in there,keeping the length, and a side fringe. you could also tease it to give it some volume, as it looks quit flat in the second photo.

good luck :3

Color oops or bleach?

Bria

My hair was bleached and dyed bright red for a few months. I decided to go back to dark brown, my natural color which I was hoping meant that I wouldn't have to dye it again. But it keeps fading and a red tint shows underneath. My roots have grown out a few inches since it's been bleached..so should I use color oops and then dye a dark brown over or will it be too uneven? Or should I bleach it and then dye it dark brown over that?

Answer
Because you have bleached your hair, it has become porous, which means that you may have to periodically re-dye it with dark brown in order for it to stay dark brown. I wouldn't even bother with the Color Oops at this stage - just do a deep treatment with some hydrolised proteins, such as Joico K-Pak or a protein filler. Then redye with brown hair dye. Using a protein treatment will help reduce the porosity of your hair so that your new brown dye will cover the red better.

How to preserve hair color?

Daisy

I dyed my hair very red. I use Joico color shield shampoo and conditioner, but the color still fades within the first two weeks. Should I recolor my hair? The color should last longer, but it doesn't, and it very frustrating. Anything else I can do? I am also vegan, so if you were to recommend a product, it would have to be not tested on animals. I appreciate the help!

Answer
Red is not a color that will last long in your hair. I wouldn't be able to reccommend a brand, but I can give you a few tips. I also color my hair red, but I only wash about 2-3 days a week. I also use color protectant shampoo and conditioner. A few days after you initially color it, you shouldn't wash it, because it will fade a little.

Red hair on cool/ red skin tone?

Zoeystar

Hi I'm confused and keep hearing contradicting information
I'm a natural ash dark blonde and I have very red blotchy uneven skin at times
So I heard anything ashy will suit my skin type, but what I want to know if someone like myself can go a light coppery red or similar to this colour
http://beauty.about.com/od/hairstylephotos/ss/long_straight_hairstyles_two_9.htm
I need to find a red that will suit my pale reddish skin tone
Anyone that could give me an idea would be great
Thanks

Answer
I love red hair .........

Cool skin tone but i have a warm color, help plz?

Jack The P

So i had dark brown hair (looked black) and my friend "lifted" it w/ bleach & Lvl 30 dev. Now my hair is a mix of burnt sienna, golden browns, and reds tones (box color she added). The red looks great, but the browns & sienna are far too "warm" for my "cool" skin tone. I fully expected id end up w/ orange hair for about 2-3 weeks (Nvr do multiple chem processes within 2 weeks) yup i'm also conditioning a lot.
So, now that my hair is lighter what can i do to turn it into the "cool" darker brown color i want? In need of comments tips and ANY color suggestions. P.S. i want to keep ALL the reds and some of the golds if possible because i dnt hate them, i just want my all over color to be more darker "cooler" brown w/ strong red and minor golden/sienna brown accents. She did a great color job and i love it, it's just not right on me. *<(:o]

How to make my hair all one color?

laurenxxmc

First let me give you my hair history-
Over a year ago, I dyed my hair bright red. It stained so badly that I had to go black. I've been dying my hair black since then and I decided to make my fringe blonde. With like 3 bleaches, spread out fairly well, it worked. So then I decided I'd do my whole head. Within this month, I know this is completely AWFUL- I've bleached my hair about 4-5 times. My hair is damaged obviously, and I've given up on being blonde because I can't get my hair to match my new blonde extensions. My hair is actually a natural-looking blonde color, with red tint, but I can't get the red to go away.

Now here's what I've decided to do. To give my hair a break, I planned to dye my whole head purple. However, my bangs are platinum and my extensions are also platinum. I'm afraid that if I put the purple dye on my hair and my extensions, they won't match. What can I do to match them up?

Answer
You can match everything but if you're interested in giving your hair (and sanity) a little break, my advise would be to go a very dark (almost burgundy) purple or a deep blue-black. (but not with solid colour).. What will make this look great is using lowlights and highlights (a few varying shades in streak-form on top of a darker, shiny base). To really make it pop, [add] some black lowlights. Not thick and chunkyâmore like a soft blend that tricks the eye.

(this one is really pretty: the deep, chocolate and espresso brown looks awesome with deep purple lowlights and brighter purple highlights. It's gorgeous!)

Don't even THINK about a violet shade that's light like this My Lil Pony lavender:

You will never get a uniform match.

Here's what you do:
Invest in some decent deep conditioner packs for your own hair and the human hair extensions. Apply the treatment packs and wrap your hair (along with the extensions) in a plastic bag (on your head) so the heat will activate the treatment. Look for a protein pack. One that will smooth the damaged and extremely porous hair by filing in the gaps.

Solutions for Correcting Porous Hair--
The issues of individual scale damage and raised cuticles are the primary issues associated with porous hair. If you can somehow patch the scale damage and close these cuticles layers, even a little, you will resolve a majority of your hair porosity issues.

(iow; it will lie flatter and smoother, the texture won't be fuzzy and feel like an emery board once corrected).

Products with wheat protein, like Kenra Moisturizing Conditioner, are good for shoring up the cuticle without leaving the hair too crunchy. Other more protein intensive treatments for correcting porous hair are Aphogee 2 Minute Keratin Reconstructor, CHI Keratin Mist, Motions CPR, and Organic Root Stimulator Mayo Treatment, and Cantu Shea Butter leave-in conditioner. Remember, nothing can PERMANENTLY repair hair that is damaged, but treatments can go a long way for shoring up the weak spots and temporarily managing problems. Joico K-pack reconstructor protein pack smells like bananas and will smooth the hair shaft. It's used before and after chemical treatments (like relaxers, perms and bleach).

After that, delve into the colour. I would go for a solid, shiny and deep-deep burgundy and add your colour of choice via HIGHLIGHTS and LOWLIGHTS vs. all-over colour. There's also HENNA gloss treatments which can be applied to both your hair and extensions, and will repair as it colours.

Adding a few strands to your own hair and the extensions of a brighter purple haze, a more lively deep turquoise, etc., will blend the colours. If there's any difference between your own hair and the extensions, the bridge will be gapped by way of adding a few lowlights and highlights. Don't try to unilaterally colour all hair the same purple shade because it just won't work. But highlights and lowlights on a smooth, deep burgundy/deep russet will work nicely. The match will be easier once your hair is less porous. Go deeper and richer with the colour and then apply lowlights and highlights to both (which will look very natural).

Will I damage my hair?

hazel

My hair was dyed black and I used color oops to take the black out so I could dye it red. An hour or two later, I put the red dye in and it came out black! Why? Also, I want to get another box of the red dye I got today and try it again. Will this damage my hair? Thanks in advance ð

Answer
When you dye your hair (especially at home) the outcome is always unpredictable. And the reason "Color Oops" didn't work is because it only strips away surface level colors, not deep ones and then covers them up! And the Color Oops alone has damaged your hair SO MUCH! You need hair stylist. A professional one. Someone who can look at your hair's damage level, porosity, thickness, and history to determine exactly what they should use to get your hair exactly where it needs to be with the least amount of damage. Plus the hair dye a hair dresser uses is different than anything you can buy over the counter. If you are trying to save money go to a cosmetology school where the students are trained and supervised by industry professionals.

Red hair question!!!!!!!?

Rinny C

So today I was braiding my best friend's hair. It is a darkish red, not the typical "gingery" orange. It has a brownish hue, but it more reddish. When I was braiding it, I found some totally white hairs. I know she didn't die it (it was only like 4 single hairs) and we are WAY to young to start graying. Why could this be? Thanks!

Answer
It could be silver hairs but if not here's why it could be gray:

With age, the pigment cells in a hair follicle gradually die off. As they do, that strand of hair will no longer grow in with as much color and will show up as more silver, gray or white as it continues to grow. Eventually, if all the pigment cells die, the hair grows in completely gray. The graying of a full head of hair typically occurs over a long period of time. From the time a person notices the first gray hair strands, it can take 10 years or more to complete the process.
Genetics and Timing

The age at which a person gets gray hair is determined by his or her genes. A general estimate can be made by observing the ages at which his or her parents or grandparents went gray. Some people go gray at young ages â sometimes in their teens â and others might not go gray before age 50. Many people show their first gray hairs during their late 30s or early 40s.

Ramadan-are women allowed to die thier hair?

D

is it forbidden. if u answer plz provide a source. and dont talk out of ur ass lol

thxxx :))
oh and i dont just mean young women doing it to look nice..wot about women in thier 40s who get white hair are they allowed to color it brown or black or red or whatever to look nice again?
why did my q hide. great !

Answer
What is forbidden is to dyeing the hair black or dyeing it to imitate the kafir (non muslims). There is nothing wrong with dyeing your hair brown even if you do not use henna. What is not allowed is to dye one's hair black, because of the hadeeth narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him)
{islamqa, fatwa no. 1008}

Jaabir ibn âAbdullah reported that Abu Quhaafah was brought on the day of the conquest of Makkah, and his head and beard were white like "thaghaamah" (a plant whose flowers and fruit are white). The Messenger of Allah (Peace & Blessings of Allah be upon Him) said: "Change this with something, but avoid black." (Reported by Muslim, no. 3962).

Ibn âAbbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "The Messenger of Allah (Peace & Blessings of Allah be upon Him) said: âAt the end of time there will be people who will dye their hair black like the crops of pigeons. They will never even smell the fragrance of Paradise." (reported by Imam Ahmad, see also Saheeh al-Jaamiâ, no. 8153).

It was also reported from the Prophet (Peace & Blessings of Allah be upon Him) that one should change grey hair, using any colour except black. Abu Dharr reported that the Prophet (Peace & Blessings of Allah be upon Him) said: "The best things with which to change grey hair are henna and âkatamâ (a plant similar to henna which is used as a dye)." (Reported by al-Tirmidhi, no. 1675; he said: This is a saheeh hasan hadith).

Dyeing hair with pure black dye is haram because the Prophet (Peace & Blessings of Allah be upon Him) said: "Avoid black," and because of the threat of punishment reported with regard to this matter. This ruling applies to both men and women.

But if the black dye is mixed with another colour, so that it is no longer black, there is nothing wrong with it.

{islamqa, fatwa no. 476}

Please use this site to research your questions in future.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There is no report of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) forbidding dyeing the hair any colour except black. There is nothing wrong with a woman dyeing her hair any other colour â brown or blond or any other, so long as by doing so she is not imitating kaafir women or immoral women.
Shaykh Muhammad ibn âUthaymeen (may Allaah have mercy on him) was asked about the ruling on a woman dyeing her hair any colour other than black, such as brown or blond?
He replied:
The basic principle is that this is permissible, so long as it does not lead to resembling kaafir women or immoral women, because that is haraam.
Best way to maintain red hair color?
Meggles650
I've been dyeing my hair red for years now. I'm naturally blonde. Realllly thin hair. Can't find anything to help it from fading. Right now, most of my hair is vibrant red, some of it is blonde. (You can see it in my thumbnail) I've used Loreal Colorist Professional(?) in Clover red. It worked alright, but I don't know if it will stain the platinum blonde part in my hair. Also, when my color fades, my roots don't fade, but my ends fade really quickly. Last time I got my hair dyed like this it only lasted 2-3 weeks. I heard that keratin helps too, so I've been using Chi's Keratin Mist. Any other suggestions??
Answer
Red is always going to be a hard color to maintain. The reason why it fades at the ends is due to the porosity and dead ends. Also, to help is using a color enhancer shampoo with a low pH around 3.5-4.5 this helps to keep the cuticle shaft closed. Another is washing your hair too much, using heating appliances and not using a heat protectant, the sun also oxidizes hair color.
No matter what brand you use the red is going to fade. Next time you go to a beauty supply store like sally's buy a protein filler in red and you can apply it to your hair and wash it out, or put some in the color as well, either way it's going to even out the porosity to give you and even color. Just put the color in a bowl and then the protein red filler and mix first then mix the peroxide. I also buy a demi permanent and use in between color applications. Demi permanents are low in ammonia , deposit color only, and make you hair very shiny, and last between 6-8 weeks. This is optional and found that it does work good and is less damaging.
hope this helps and i love your red color it's very pretty for you skin tone :)
is it ok to mix two different hair dye together? to get a red/brown hair color?
ALESANA
or is it better to dye my hair brown first then wait a day then dye it red?
i plan on using box hair dyes, garnier box dyes
just because the professional hair colors i get from sally's doesn't have the color that i want
Answer
NO! You could cause a major chemical reaction that could explode at the worst, at the least, make your hair fall out. Keep looking around and trying to find the right color. On your other half of your question, yes it would be better. You can color it in the same day, but depending on the health of your hair, you may be risking some damage. Garnier is a good brand. the colors seem to be true, and the damage is minimal. Make sure you use a darker brown than the red, or it may come out only red.
Good luck, and I'm sure as long as you don't mix the chemicals, you will be okay.
Answer
Color is thought of by beauticians in "levels." The higher the number the lighter, so lets say level 1 is black and level 6 brown is like Jaclyn Smith in say this picture:
http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://images.art.com/images/products/large/10039000/10039461.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.celebs-gallery.com/pages/jaclyn_smith_01.html&h=398&w=320&sz=19&hl=en&start=6&um=1&tbnid=51dCTNkJdHYJZM:&tbnh=124&tbnw=100&prev=/images%3Fq%3DJaclyn%2BSmith%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26rls%3Dcom.microsoft:*:IE-SearchBox%26rlz%3D1I7GGIH%26sa%3DX
So now lets say you were like that picture above at level 6 and you wanted to go to this picture bellow. Say a nice level 7+ I would use a level 8 to get there.
Ash colors ae less brassy, they are more neutral or green. There are also drabbers that can be added to other colors and depending on your under tones are either good or bad. Most people have red untedtones and anytime color is liften it gets red/orange so ash colors in general are good. (Unless you are the rae case of ash undertones).
Do red heads tend to be more tempermental?
Q. My sister is always bitchy.. and shes a red head...
Answer
It's a stereotype, even if there are statistics leaning towards it. The result of our personalities are not caused by our hair and skin color, and hair and skin color do not determine personalities. After all, not every blond-haired person is dumb.
Did ancient Celtic or Gaelic people have only blonde or red hair , and only blue or green eyes?
Or did some have brown hair, brown eyes? Is there any proof one way or another about this?
Answer
I'm Northern Irish and most people here have dark hair and light eyes - blonde hair is actually more common in England and the Scandinavian countries than in Ireland and red hair is more common in Scotland than in Ireland. That being said, most Scots are dark haired/light eyed as well, as are most Welsh people. Given that the Irish, Scots and Welsh are of Celtic ancestry, that would suggest that dark hair/light eyes was the most common combination amongst ancient Celts. There's also a fair amount of Irish people with dark hair and dark eyes, we call them 'Black Irish', my gran was like that. Although I've heard that these people are descended from the sailors of the Spanish Armada ships that moored on the north-east Irish coast in the 16th century i.e. they have Spanish ancestry, so perhaps dark hair/dark eyes combinations are more to do with Spanish ancestry rather than Celtic. I don't know if there's proof regarding the ancient Celts but there's certainly online statistics for what colourings are most common in modern Celtic people, most are derived from limited surveys so they don't provide a complete picture but they should give you a basic idea of what's most common here.
Hope this helps
What would you call this hair color (just a description)?
Anica
I had really dark brown hair and then I got honey blonde highlights, but I'm going in again soon and I want another color but I can't name it. I want it to be blondish but I also want it to have a red chestnut brown tone, almost like a Ginger but more blonde/chestnut. What would that be called?
