Whether the fanboys want to admit it or not, Japanese culture, is historically, incredibly racist and xenophobic. It doesn't take a Ph.D historian to know that much. Stack that on top of that fact that when early anime (up to the 80s) was being made, it was still taking cues from American animation. In American animation, up until about the end of Vietnam, animated black people still had at least partial sambo stylization.

Snippets of racism and racist comments sneak into anime even today. As recently as Tenjho Tenge, for instance.

you could get away with alot with your colouring, i'm a natural dark blonde/hazel eyes used to dye very vibrant dark red, sometimes even plum/purple-red, always looked much better with a spray tan ,personally I say go for it you'll look hot. Anything from a hot deep red right thru to deep plum as long as its not too orangey check out these.

i am hispanic and some way indian, im probably the same color as you because i am tan but not overly tan, i have kind of a a biege chashew skin color. and i went from a darkish red hair to bright red hair and everybody always complements me on it, they say it goes perfectly with my skin tone. Sometimes when in the summer when i get tanner tend to go darker cuz the red looks funny. but this summer ive stayed away from the sun and
put sunblock on, so my hairs been bright all summer (:

lemme give you some advice if you do decide to get red hair.
DO NOT BLEACH YOUR HAIR its horrible for it, and the color because the color fades wayy faster than normally because bleached hair doesnt hold color that well, and red already is a hard color to maintain
Since you have naturally dark hair like me go to your local sallys store and buy "loreal highlift in red" its for dark hair only! I use a 40 developer for my bright red hair. but you can use a 30 for red hair or a 20 for a darker red hair.
Buy shampoo and conditioner for red hair, preferebly redken(you can find it a sallys its pretty expensive) or john frieda for red hair(you can find out at walmart our target) or the one i buy which is one n' only aragan oil, its amazing its not ment for red hair but i find that it works just as well as the ones for red hair
Don't take hot showers because the the hot water just makes the color fade faster. doesn't mean go take cold showers no, just more lluke warm,
If your color fades and you still don't want to do a touch up on your roots just yet get manic panic hair dye and this is awesome dye because you do not need a developer and its like conditioner and.its vegan so no harsh chemicals are used.

for your hair color, i would definitely bring a picture of what you want. its alot easier for your stylist to see what you want than listen to you describe it. for your nails i would go with either a light, almost sheer pink ( it will look nice if you got a nice summer tan), or you can go with a fall color like deep red, or burgundy.

I used to have blonde hair and got it dyed professionally. I told her I wanted a very light brown with no red tints, I guess that would be an ash brown, and I came out with dark dark auburn-ish hair. Part of it faded and when I went back I told her again no dark hair and yet she did it again. Before that I always colored my hair myself and plan on doing that again by purchasing a box from Walmart but I don't know what to get. If you are uncomfortable with your eyebrow color for this hair dye, you could always use make up. Auburny or dark brown eye shadow would be best. Just swab a bit on a dry or damp Q-tip and go across your eyebrow hairs before going out. :)

I will be 14 in two weeks, and I got my hair dyed at the salon about a month and a half ago. My natural hair color is dark blonde, and my mom and I had a "disaster" when my hair turned orange after an at home coloring. So, at the salon, the hairdresser used a demi-permanent color between dark blonde and light brown. Now the color is faded to a dark blonde with warm tones. I originally wanted to go a little lighter, and now we are going to highlight my hair at home. We've done this before and it turned out well, but I want to try a different product. any suggestions?

I suggest you wait awhile before coloring your hair. For you have too much chemicals in your hair if you were to color it at this moment. There is a high possibility of disaster. Besides even if you do achieve the color you want at home. It won't help you in the long run for you recently colored your hair a month and a half ago. Besides demi-permanent products last longer (approximately 24 to 26 shampoos) and also contain no ammonia, so again, you won't be able to lighten your hair. However, a small level of peroxide allows you to create a more noticeable color change. Highlights (from the cap) are usually permanent, and they are a great way to add texture and subtle color to your hair-whether they're red or blond or even blue-without dramatic changes. Beware that highlighting often takes a long time, as you usually have to use a pick to pull your hair through tiny holes in a plastic cap. The more hair you pull through the holes, the more dramatic the results. You can also choose a non-permanent highlighting kit, which involves painting streaks of color onto your hair with a thin brush. You'll look cute for a few days, but the results tend to be too subtle and short-lived. Permanent color uses both ammonia and peroxide, which enter the hair's cortex and create a change that cannot be washed out. Keep in mind that the end result is always a combination of the added pigment and the original pigment of your hair, so the dye may look different on you than, on your friend, the model on the box, or Julia Roberts. But as the name suggests, when you wash with permanent color, if you don't like it, your only options are to wait for the color to grow out or to dye over it (which, again, DEFINITELY requires a pro).

Karin - Maaka Karin comes from a family of vampires living in Japan, but she is not a normal vampire. Ouran high school host club - Fujioka Haruhi won a scholarship to attend Ouran High, a school reserved for the rich and prestigious. Despite what other students may think of her, Haruhi cares little for physical appearances or the fact that she's a commoner. Unfortunately for Haruhi, her high school days took a turn when she stumbled upon the Host Club, a group of guys who use their specific traits and charms to entertain the women of Ouran High School. Even worse was that Haruhi had accidentally broken an 8 million yen vase in the club. Can you use hair glaze instead of hair dye for more subtle color?

I was watching "How do I Look" yesterday, and the stylist used hair glaze and I think she was saying it will make the hair appear lighter. I have jet balck hair and I kinda wanted to put a little red in it. Will using one of those hair glaze products work to make a red tint in my hair?

No. Glazes cannot be used on black colored hair. Glazes are a gentle alternative to color and wont show up on hair that dark.

How can I darken my red hair without losing the natural highlights?

Your best bet is to try a color depositing shampoo. It revs up the natural tones in your hair and kicks up the hue without drastically changing the color. Your second best bet would be a color glaze, which does basically the same thing, though the color glaze is not used like a shampoo but like a conditioner.

John Frieda has both of these products for red hair.

If you actually want to dye the hair, one thing you have to remember is to make sure that the package has "semi" or "demi" permanent on the box and absolutely make sure it says "ammonia free". With natural red hair you do NOT want ammonia, it will end up orange. If you are going to dye it, pick a shade that is no more than 2 shades lighter or darker than your natural color. This is especially important since you are trying to preserve the natural highlites. You mentioned you have some gray, so keep in mind that grays are more stubborn to color than pigmented hues. They may turn out lighter than the rest of your hair.

Many other brands have color glazes and color depositing shampoos but John Frieda is a popular one. L'Oreal and Garnier are also good, and both offer "box dye".

Do a medium brown shadow just up to the crease of your eyelid from inside corner to outside. Use a light golden yellow shadow from the inside crease of your eye and sweep it up along the type of the brown. Then use a darker brown along the outside bottom edge. Don't cake it on, you want it to compliment your eyes, not overwhelm. Use black eyeliner. It makes blue eyes pop. Use it along the lash line, thin at the inner eye, gradually a little thicker at the outer corner. Use black mascara with a good brush that separates your lashes. A light light light rosy blush along the outside of your cheekbones is good, but just a couple of sweeps of the brush. Top it off with a gloss close to the natural color of your lips, just a shade darker.

Playing with chemicals is not like playing with clothes, or doing a manicure, there are penalties for playing chemicals in the lab. Even hair color experts at the salon are not rocket scientists, they do a bang up dye jobs to their clients or their own hair.
Example: "My hair is right about armpit length as it is, but I've severely damaged it by bleaching it all at once. As a student of cosmetology myself, I would have to say that it was probably one of the worst mistakes I could have ever made."

I don't think it will ruin the show for you. In fact, it will probably just make the show seem all the better by comparison, since, in my opinion, the books blow. To be fair, I've only read the first one, but it was so bad that not only did I not even consider buying the second, I actually just gave it away for free. And I love vampire fiction.

The first book was published in 1991, and very much feels like it's an early 90s book. It's super cheesy and cliched.

Book Elena is a pltinum blonde and complete snob. She's your sterotypical cheerleader Queen Bee, mostly concerned with fashion, her social status, making sure she's the most desirable girl at school, etc. She's like the show version of Caroline in early season 1.

Book Katherine, well, don't expect any of the awesomeness you get from her in the show. In book one, she's described as a meek, angelic, weak, extremely ladylike little girl. She's described as looking like Elena, but 5 or so inches shorter and with lighter eyebrows.

Jeremy doesn't exist. Instead, Elena has a 4-year-old little sister who really doesn't do anything for the story.

Bonnie is a dorky white girl with frizzy red hair. She's a psychic descended from Druids who goes into these ultra-cheesy trances and warns Elena about various things.

Caroline is a tanned brunette whose sole obsession is taking Elena's place as the most popular girl in school.

Tyler is a stupid jock and bully. He's just a throwaway meathead.

Stefan is a 500 year old Italian who's described as short. He's really quite pathetic, with no personality whatsoever other than being sorrowful and quiet, with Elena constantly coming on to him and being pissed off that he's not going after her life all the other boys.

Damon rarely appears, but when he does it's with fog and crows. He's not funny or heartfelt at all like he is in the show. He's just dark, mysterious, and mostly not there.

Basically, what you'll get is the story of a vapid blonde cheerleader who falls for a super quiet and weak vampire boy, his creepy brother pops in for a few minutes here and there, her best friend has a spooky vision every now and then, there's some school dances, and...blah. I don't recommend it at all. It's definitely no substitute for the show.

If you want something to curb your cravings while waiting for season 3, I suggest watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, and Charmed in the meantime, and maybe pick up a book series called "Rachel Morgan" by Kim Harrison. It's in the adult genre, but not too heavy on sex or anything. It's about witches, vampires, werewolves, pixies, demons, you name it. The main character is a witch in her 20s who lives with a pixy and a vampire and they run a business catching supernatural criminals together.

I've watched some makeup tutorials on YouTube, and seen that style elsewhere, and sometimes it's attributed to 40's and other times, 50's. The curly hair, red lip, thick liner with a flick.

Before I answer this, let me just say Old Hollywood is my passion. I watch movies from 1910s-70s every. single. day. So I have seen hundreds of movies, and most from 30s, 40s, and 50s..so I have experience with this subject lol

There's not a difference in makeup from the 40s and 50s. The only change from 30s to 40s to 50s are the hairstyles and clothes.. (such as pin curls were only popular in the 20s and 30s and NOT the 40s.) ..and eyebrows. (Thicker eyebrows started coming back in the 40s, but before that they were tweezed/waxed to a thin arch.)

In the 1950s, a lot more women (particularly teenagers) started to wear their hair down and wavy (never more than shoulder length). Don't get me wrong, a lot still wore victory rolls (Those curly rolls you see on the women's heads), but this was leading into the late 60s, and by then victory rolls were nonexistent (on the younger generation, anyways.)

First a little science
Red hair is caused by a mutation on chromosome 16 which is thought to regulate about 3% of the DNA in the human body including pigment production.
This mutation alters the type of pigment that is produced.

In our bodies we have something called a melanin-activating peptide receptor (MC1R) which takes queues from the body chemicals and tells the cells in your hair, eyes and skin to produce the appropriate pigment.

If you get someone who has this mutated chromosome then the MC1R is sent a different signal to normal and essentially it is turned off so it isn't telling the hair, skin and eyes to produce a dark pigment like it normally would (brown or black eumelanin which causes dark hair, eyes and skin).

Now why does this cause red hair?
Red hair is the result of brown hair acting under the influence of this mutated chromosome. It is essentially brown hair (which normally contains a mix of brown eumelanin, red phaeomelanin and a little yellow phaeomelanin) but the dark brown eumelanin has been turned off so it isn't being produced properly, auburn hair is the result of a partially active receptor and ginger hair is the result of a completely inactive receptor.
The person with red hair really carries the gene for brown hair but also carries the mutated chromosome.

This mutated chromosome is recessive and requires to copies to be seen as a phenotype acting on the hair, if there is only one copy of the chromosome then it is a genotype and has no effect on the hair color.

Now back to your original question.
Because this mutation is rare and very recessive, the chances are that the child would inherit blonde or brown hair rather than red (unless red hair is known on both the mother and father's side in which case it's much more likely for the child to have red hair)
However they will carry the unseen and inactive mutation for red hair which could surface in later generations if matched with another carrier of the the same mutated chromosome.

A similar effect is happening with the eyes which are also influenced by this same mutated chromosome, grey eyes are recessive over blue and it's far more likely that the child would inherit blue.

I think people with red hair look good with a "pirate" look. I recommend you watch several pirate movies to see what style you like the best. I really enjoy "Pirates of Penzance" and watch it quite frequently. This is where I got the inspiration for my hair-do. I hear people talking about it all the time, so I know they're amazed. I'm a natural redhead with the same complexion as you by the sounds of it. I love using bright red lipstick but you have to be careful that you choose the right shade of red. I tend to avoid pink based lipsticks in favour of shades that have either a brown or plum base. These colours are more neutral and don't clash with the red in my hair. You could ask a make-up artist what they suggest, it's hard to make a more specific suggestion without seeing you.
