How long will red hair color stay in ?

DREW

If I like got it done professionally. My hair is dark brown naturally but I'll have to get it dyed blonde for a play. Then I want it red. Like in the little mermaid. Will the color like wash out fast. And do you think it would stay in if i got it professionally done ((not from a box set))

Answer
Don't do it! Red hair is so hard to look after. I went from dark brown to bright red, took me about 4 boxes of that 'Live' stuff until i got the colour i wanted but because it fades so quickly like all red dies apparently do i had to keep dying it every 4 weeks ish. I'm not sure about professionally though. If you're dying your hair blonde first when it does fade it will go an orangey colour rather than just a dull red. Oh and, i found it really hard to shop when i had red hair because you can't wear certain colours. Found myself wearing blacks, whites, creams and denims with gold accessories all the time. One more thing....once you've died your hair red the only way you can get rid of it is by dying it black and even when i done that you could still see red in it like i had red highlights or something and i stillllll have a red tint to my hair now even though it was ages ago my hair was red...

Red hair with blonde highlights?

Ste

What would red hair look like with blonde highlights all through the hair? If the red hair color is very vivid would it soften it? What would the finished overall color look like?

If you can find any pix of what it may look like, please show me.

Thnx

Answer
i have red hair and highlighted it a few years ago. i mean it looked great and was a nice change. i have really bright red hair and i kind of wanted it toned down. it looked good but everytime you get it redone, it gets more and more blond. that is the problem i had, after coloring it twice, i was 50/50, and see im just not a blonde. its not my personality so i had to go back to the red. so its hard to get the color exactly back right, it started off dark red then washed away, but the highlight underneath eventually showed through! so up until last week i had two toned red hair cause the old highlight was coming through and i didnt want to dye it again. it def softened it, and it was really great for summer, it was just to get it back right was a pain. i think you should do it everyone loved it it was a nice change!

Bleaching hair blonde?

Chocolate

I'm 12 and and in middle school and wanted to change things up with my look. I baught caribean blue contacts (havn't come in yet...) instead of clear and I want to do something with my hair too. Don't tell me I'm too young or that It will ruin my hair or whatever....I WOULD like some tips for how to not ruin my hair doing this though...

Anyway, I was thinking about going bleach blonde with black underneath since that is what I think looks cool. I naturally have wavy hair and keep it that way during breaks and vacations but then I make it pin straight for school (I've been doing this since mid 5th grade). I only straighten it for school and keep it natural the rest of the time to keep it less damaged. Do you think this actually is working?

Also, If you don't think I should go with this hair style and color, what do you think I should go for? Incase any of this matters, I wear light eyeshadow, black mascara, and pink lip gloss with clear lip gloss on top. My style is skinny jeans and hollister with some gilry skater and a little bit of punk mixed in. I have blue eyes (really blue with colored contacts) and fair skin that turns olive when I get tan...

Thanks!

Answer
I have the blonde with black underneath right now and my hair isn't even barely that damaged so Ill let you know what I did.

My hair was your color before I dyed it red about a year ago, and a few months back I decided to bleach it because the red faded so it was and awkward light red/brown, and so I ended up buying a boxed bleach at shoppers drug mart and bringing it home. I already had black underneath the red before though so I did it and since I had red undertones, it turned an orangey blonde. So I bought another one a few days later and went over it and got my wanted color basically.
Therefore theres my first warning. You may have to get two boxes, unless you use a peroxide kit from sallys or something.

I had manual red undertones because my hair was still red from before, so thats why it turned pretty orangey blonde. You seem to have basic blonde/brown tones, so you should be alright. But to get the super white platinum is difficult. I suggest two but wait ATLEAST a week inbetween dyes.

Deep condition your hair roughly two days before bleaching it first. Bleach is a strong chemical and your hair strength may be different from mine. Conditioning it helps keep it stronger and rejuvenates it.
If you dont have a conditioner specializing towards deep conditioning, just get your regular conditioner and either leave it in for extra long, or over night. Itll sink in and wash it out in the morning or after atleast half an hour.

After the bleaching process, if you want to add black; I suggest getting a black henna that doesnt contain ammonia. Thats the kind I use and it doesnt damage my hair as far as I see and feel.

Bigen powder dyes are the best in my opinion.
Theyre only under 5 dollars and their powders so you can save them. The black ones are so black they look almost blue, and never fade or strip color, and are just great.

But when your doing black, try to wait again another week or two just to let your hair settle down a bit.

Now, if the blondes a little yellowy or brassy you could say. You should get a 'toner' with a purple/lavender base. A toner is just well could be a shampoo and/or conditioner that you use regularly. I promise you it helps and works to get rid off the brassiness. I use John Frieda shampoo toner, the lavender one. The reason it has to be purple is because on the color wheel purple is the contrasting color of yellow so it neutralizes it.

Man, long answer but I tried to answer your question if I did. But your hairs really nice naturally and itll take some time but you can get there. And the haley williams cut would look nice on you, good luck!

Red Hair Roots Question?

Tori

Ok, so I dyed my hair red a few months ago. Since then, I've had to touch up my roots. To do that, I used a red permanent hair color and a 30 developer. Problem is, I didn't leave it on quite as long as I should have and now my roots are a bit darker than the rest of my hair. My question is: Is there any way to lighten my dyed roots without bleaching? Would using the 30 developer and the permanent color do it or am I stuck riding the bleach train?
I know that using developer and hair color can lift NATURAL hair color but what I'm asking is will it lift DYED hair?

Answer
You can use Lorea'l HiColor Hair dye with 30% developer.
I used it last week to dye my dark brown hair and I got great results! This hairDye is special for dark hair and you can find it at a beauty supply store.

Just remember once you dye it red you need to take extra care of it, red is one of the colors that fades away really fast.
You need to wash it with the coldest water you can take, warm/hot watar makes the color fade.
You must not wash it every day, you can use dry shampoo, it works great!
You'll need to reapply once a month or depending on you hair growth.

Hope this has helped!

Hot roots??

Hannah

has anyone had this problem? i tried to dye my hair auburn, but the roots came out much lighter and a bit redder than the rest of the hair, as if the dye bleached them a bit and it really wasn't supposed to. From a lot of googling i think it's called hot roots. I really dont have ANY money to go to a salon, any suggestions as to how i can fix it at home? would dying it a darker ash brown colour cancel out the redness a bit and make it look more even?
Please help!

Answer
yes, if you dyed it a darker color it would probably even it out (though you may be able to notice the color difference if you get picky about it).

The spa has a friendly atmosphere and the services are fabulous. The aestheticians care about the individual customer: my skin gets red with a wax, and they showed concern and modified my treatment to relieve some of the discoloration. The Brazilian was as painless as it could be, and Laura, the waxer, is lightning fast and very detail-oriented.

I got a massage and facial at this spa on different occasions recently. I is a wonderful quaint spa. It has a great atmosphere and they don't try to be more than they are, they keep it real and simple. Which is why I highly recommend them. The staff is extremely professional and very skilled at what they do. My massage was so relaxing. The facial was absolutely amazing, you just have to get a facial, it is a must have. I didn't realize how soothing a facial could be. I will be going back.

Red head people(ginger heads)....?

Sherminato

Where does the ginger hair come from?...is it only from ireland or can other europeans have it,spaniards,italians,british you get the point.

Also,if an american has ginger hair could we assume they have irish ancestors?

Answer
red hair occurs naturally on approximately 1â2% of the human population.[1] It occurs more frequently (2â6%) in people of northern or western European ancestry, and less frequently in other populations. Red hair appears in people with two copies of a recessive gene on chromosome 16 which causes a mutation in the MC1R protein.
Red hair varies from a deep burgundy through burnt orange to bright copper. It is characterized by high levels of the reddish pigment pheomelanin and relatively low levels of the dark pigment eumelanin. The term redhead (originally redd hede) has been in use since at least 1510.[2] It is associated with fair skin color, lighter eye colors (gray, blue, green, and hazel), freckles, and sensitivity to ultraviolet light.[3]
Cultural reactions have varied from ridicule to admiration; many common stereotypes exist regarding redheads and they are often portrayed as fiery-tempered.

In fact the USA, has the most red heads. It is estimated that 2â6% of the population has red hair. This would give the U.S. the largest population of redheads in the world, at 6 to 18 million, compared to approximately 650,000 in Scotland and 420,000 in Ireland.

The pigment pheomelanin gives red hair its distinctive color. Red hair has far more of the pigment pheomelanin than it has of the dark pigment eumelanin. So the more pigment pheomelanin the brighter your hair is.

Origins
Red hair is the rarest natural hair color in humans. The non-tanning skin associated with red hair may have been advantageous in far-northern climates where sunlight is scarce. Studies by Bodmer and Cavalli-Sforza (1976) hypothesized that lighter skin pigmentation prevents rickets in colder climates by encouraging higher levels of Vitamin D production and also allows the individual to retain heat better than someone with darker skin.[30] In 2000, Harding et al. concluded that red hair was not the result of positive selection and instead proposed that it occurs because of a lack of negative selection. In Africa, for example, red hair is selected against because high levels of sun would be harmful to untanned skin. However, in Northern Europe this does not happen, so redheads come about through genetic drift.[27]
Estimates on the original occurrence of the currently active gene for red hair vary from 20,000 to 100,000 years ago.[31][32]
A DNA study has concluded that some Neanderthals also had red hair, although the mutation responsible for this differs from that which causes red hair in modern humans.[33]

Red hair is a gene basically. It is in your DNA. You inherit it, it doesn't come from a particular place. Many think Scots or Irish are where you find the most red heads, but in fact it is the USA.

All from Wiki...Plus my brain...And other sites...Plus I saw some of it in a book. So I got it from various things.

They have discovered that some Neanderthal had red hair. Do you think they were the product of the Devil?

Q. Were they Satan's creation. Did he make them to interbreed with humans and pollute our blood? Are we doomed? Did Mary pass Neanderthal blood on to Jesus? There are now so many unanswered disturbing questions. What can we Christians do?

Answer
Are you fucking serious? WOW!
What a freak!!!
We have EVOLVED...yes I said it...EVOLVED from Neanderthal's you narrow minded fool!!
How the fuck do you figure they were "satan's" creation? Oh, I know, its the propencity of Christians to call anything they dont want to belive or understand, the devil's product...wow...your insane...wow.

Red hair question!!!!!!!?

Rinny C

So today I was braiding my best friend's hair. It is a darkish red, not the typical "gingery" orange. It has a brownish hue, but it more reddish. When I was braiding it, I found some totally white hairs. I know she didn't die it (it was only like 4 single hairs) and we are WAY to young to start graying. Why could this be? Thanks!

Answer
It could be silver hairs but if not here's why it could be gray:

With age, the pigment cells in a hair follicle gradually die off. As they do, that strand of hair will no longer grow in with as much color and will show up as more silver, gray or white as it continues to grow. Eventually, if all the pigment cells die, the hair grows in completely gray. The graying of a full head of hair typically occurs over a long period of time. From the time a person notices the first gray hair strands, it can take 10 years or more to complete the process.
Genetics and Timing

The age at which a person gets gray hair is determined by his or her genes. A general estimate can be made by observing the ages at which his or her parents or grandparents went gray. Some people go gray at young ages â sometimes in their teens â and others might not go gray before age 50. Many people show their first gray hairs during their late 30s or early 40s.

Ramadan-are women allowed to die thier hair?

D

is it forbidden. if u answer plz provide a source. and dont talk out of ur ass lol

thxxx :))
oh and i dont just mean young women doing it to look nice..wot about women in thier 40s who get white hair are they allowed to color it brown or black or red or whatever to look nice again?
why did my q hide. great !

Answer
What is forbidden is to dyeing the hair black or dyeing it to imitate the kafir (non muslims). There is nothing wrong with dyeing your hair brown even if you do not use henna. What is not allowed is to dye one's hair black, because of the hadeeth narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him)
{islamqa, fatwa no. 1008}

Jaabir ibn âAbdullah reported that Abu Quhaafah was brought on the day of the conquest of Makkah, and his head and beard were white like "thaghaamah" (a plant whose flowers and fruit are white). The Messenger of Allah (Peace & Blessings of Allah be upon Him) said: "Change this with something, but avoid black." (Reported by Muslim, no. 3962).

Ibn âAbbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "The Messenger of Allah (Peace & Blessings of Allah be upon Him) said: âAt the end of time there will be people who will dye their hair black like the crops of pigeons. They will never even smell the fragrance of Paradise." (reported by Imam Ahmad, see also Saheeh al-Jaamiâ, no. 8153).

It was also reported from the Prophet (Peace & Blessings of Allah be upon Him) that one should change grey hair, using any colour except black. Abu Dharr reported that the Prophet (Peace & Blessings of Allah be upon Him) said: "The best things with which to change grey hair are henna and âkatamâ (a plant similar to henna which is used as a dye)." (Reported by al-Tirmidhi, no. 1675; he said: This is a saheeh hasan hadith).

Dyeing hair with pure black dye is haram because the Prophet (Peace & Blessings of Allah be upon Him) said: "Avoid black," and because of the threat of punishment reported with regard to this matter. This ruling applies to both men and women.

But if the black dye is mixed with another colour, so that it is no longer black, there is nothing wrong with it.

{islamqa, fatwa no. 476}

Please use this site to research your questions in future.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There is no report of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) forbidding dyeing the hair any colour except black. There is nothing wrong with a woman dyeing her hair any other colour â brown or blond or any other, so long as by doing so she is not imitating kaafir women or immoral women.
Shaykh Muhammad ibn âUthaymeen (may Allaah have mercy on him) was asked about the ruling on a woman dyeing her hair any colour other than black, such as brown or blond?
He replied:
The basic principle is that this is permissible, so long as it does not lead to resembling kaafir women or immoral women, because that is haraam.
Why some people have red hair?
Q. Please don't tell me because they can...i am not asking this to make fun of anyone
Thank you.
Answer
red hair came about the same as blonde hair. They are both genetic mutations (from the original black haired gene) that were desirable adaptations to the Homo Sapiens who migrated North from Africa.
Mutations come about all the time in genetics. Most of them die right out if they do not improve adaptivity to a certain environment.
If such a gene had (and probably did) appeared in Africa, it would have immediately died out, because red hair, and the fair skin that usually accompanies it, would have been ill-suited for the hot African climate.
However, the trait for red hair, same as blonde hair, thrived in the cold Northern climate where sun is scarce. People that carry the red or blonde gene are believed to also be able to absorb and metabolize more vitamin D, which helps prevent rickets, and also produces more well-being chemicals in the brain like Serotonin.
The reason why there are both red and blonde genes probably has to do with the cultures that developed in early civilizations. Many scientists believe that the red gene prominently came about in the area around Greece, and then moved upward into Western Europe. The blonde gene developed more in Central Europe and Scandinavia.
Perhaps the people who lived in these areas thought the redheads/blondes were more beautiful, respectively?
How to get rid of this red hair?
Riley
So around Thanksgiving, I dyed my hair red, loved it, all that good stuff. Now it's April, and I kinda miss my blonde hair. The color has faded mostly, but my hair is still clearly red, and I'm just bored of the color. How can I get rid of the rest of the dyed color D:
Answer
If you dyed your hair a darker color with a semi-permanent (claims to wash out in 28 shampoos) dye, make a thick paste of crushed Vitamin C tablets and water. Apply the paste to your damp hair and rest an hour before washing out. This will remove most of the color if applied within a few days of the dying. You will not need to re-color your hair, the paste is non-damaging. OR Buy some hair color remover from a salon or drugstore. Loreal's "Hair Color Remover" and "Color Zap" seem to be the most popular, but they are very different! Color Zap will make your hair the color that it is naturally, where Hair Color Remover will gently make your hair colorless, or bleach blonde. OR Use a washing powder or clothing detergent. I dyed my hair black and after about 5 washes (leaving it on for about ten minuets) with detergent (bleaching AGENT only, not actual hydrogen peroxide etc, for example surf) it is sort of a dirty blonde, which is fairly close to my natural colour. Beware; your roots will lighten quicker than your ends, so maybe have a good haircut too!
What dye to use to dye a blue or purple streak in my hair?
Pixie
My hair is naturally dark blond, and I want to dye a streak of blue or purple in my hair, but I want to use something that isn't super damaging, expensive, or quick fading.
Would Kool-aid work, or is my hair too dark? How much would Kool-Aid hair dying cost monthly? By the way, I don't want to bleach my hair.
My hair is this color:
I was just wondering what people think of my naruto OC.......?
Dark Sorce
Her name is Sabrina Touwata meaning royal bloodflower (the last name is Japanese though the first isn't). She is about 15 and has dark brown hair shaded red in some areas, her hair goes to just below her shoulder and is found layered with a portion hiding her left eye. She always wears her hair down and has eyes that are mix between olive, green, and gold. She wears a black tank top that shows some cleavage with black shorty shorts, and sandals that are just like Sakura's in the shippuden episodes.She also wears a leather bound necklace that has a clear quartz crystal hanging from it. Oh and she has a skinny figure with a curve. Her clan's kekkei genkai is called Tsumejin which allows them to be able to change their humanly form into that of the animal(s) their soul is connected to (even though those animals can only be predatory mammals). She's able to transform into a large black she-wolf or a brown tinted coyote. She also has a large male black and silver wolf that travels by her side, she calls him Akuma meaning nightmare or devil, his eye color is a deep green. And she also has a pet weasel that she got from her mom when she was young (oh forgot to mention earlier but her clan was killed because of their kekkei genkai and she was the only one who escaped the execution and the weasel just looks like a black footed ferret), he's called Maho meaning magic. She is part of the akatsuki and is on the same team as Itachi and Kisame, and she completely despises Hidan. Her personality is she can act sweet and calm around those she trusts (which are few) but can mercilessly destroy anyone who she finds are "in her way", and she can act like a complete idiot when she wants. She likes books, music, most animals, weapons,anything scary, black, art, and pockey. She hates prisses/fangirls, pink, romancey things though she can tolerate them, people who treat other people like shit cause their weaker, and alot of other things. Oh and before I forget she also had the Five-Tailed Wolf Demon sealed inside of her when she was born,and she calls her Tama meaning soul or spirit, She specializes in fire and darkness (if possible) based jutsus and can summon 3 tails and still have control over the demon inside of her. She hates Sasuke and also knows who Tobi really is (but hedon't knoww that).
So that's it and all the names except her first are Japanese.THANKS!
Answer
I guess it would work if it was in the Naruto universe, if you mean to traverse into Shippudden, you might have to make her a bit more older and darker since the series is more serious. I don't feel like 2 pets is a good thing. You should either take one out or give her less powers that focus on helping her pets. Also, be sure to make her hair have that kind of jagged edge that people have in naruto. Since she and/or her pet is wolves or coyotes, make the dog guy(forgot his name, sorry, you know who I mean) either relatives or enemies since their animals are. Besides that it seems like a good idea. Just make sure you don't diverge from the Naruto basis or you might as well create another universe. Hope I helped and I wasn't pointing out your flaws, I'm just trying to help :)
EDIT: When or if you write something, be sure to try and get my attention and I'll look at it. It really is a good idea and has a lot of potential. Goog luck x)
Hair/hair color variations between siblings?
Lilyana
Okay so I'm one of nine children (Weird I know)
Both my parents each have seven siblings. Within their families, they have every hair and eye color.
My mom has reddish blonde hair and brown eyes. My dad has dark brown hair and green/hazel-ish eyes. and somehow they produced us.
#1: Brown hair, brown eyes
#2: Reddish Brown hair, light goldish brown eyes
#3: Blonde hair, blue-grey eyes
#4: Really red hair, and really intense blue eyes
#5: Brown hair, hazel eyes
#6 Reddish brown hair, blue grey eyes
#7: Red hair, dark hazel eyes
#8 (Me): Reddish brown hair, Hazel/Green eyes
#9: Blonde hair, Blue-grey eyes.
What really confuses me is the variation within each color. Like one of my brothers has really, really bright blue eyes but everyone else with blue eyes has more of a grey-ish shade.
Is it just that there are so many of us that every gene possible worked its way out?
Is it normal for there to be some variation, even within the shade of each color?
Answer
Completely normal. Sometimes things skip a generation, for instance, I had a really tall great granddad and my family whom are living are quite small and I'm like a giant. But yes it's normal for that to happen. So you probably had a relative or still have a relative with bright blue eyes that he has got the colour from :)
Hair color expert help needed!?
So right now my hair is a level 4 mix of Ion 4N and Ion 4IR but I am seriously in love with this color from loreal Paris. I need tips on how to achieve this color. Do you think I could just use this color with a 30 or 40 developer? The box says this color is also a level 4
Answer
From Ya member who was so depressed: "sallies beauty salon isnt really a salon is more of a hair suppply store and the beautitionist who looked and tested my hair said it would work just fine and now im left with bald spots and im only 15 will a little less than half my hair missing and white roots and bright orange red and spotted black hair that is melted up to around 2 inches from my scalp idk what to do"
Overlapping dye onto previously colored hair is what creates dullness and dryness. If you color your hair @ home or salon, let your roots grow out as long as you can stand, so the line of demarcation is easier to spot. Only run color through the lengths for five minutes to refresh the ends. To extend the time between touch-ups, use a gloss and deep -conditioning treatments. They will help smooth cuticles roughed up by daily wear & tear, and the hair will look shinier. ~ Harry Josh, hairstylist of the celebrities.
Celebrity wears two-tone hair dye all the time, trying to grow out their dye. They call that the ombre style.
Style meets chemistry meets biology: We're talking hair coloring.
Playing with chemicals is not like playing with clothes, or doing a manicure, there are penalties for playing chemicals in the lab. Even hair color experts at the salon are not rocket scientists, they do a bang up dye jobs to their clients or their own hair.
Chemicals can enter the body through the skin.
London, Feb 20, 2013 I've been saying that since 2009.
Hair dyes, which include home hair colouring kits and those used at pricey salons, are linked to deadly cancer-causing chemicals, warn scientists. In 2009 the Mail revealed that women who used hair dyes more than nine times a year had a 60% greater risk of contracting blood cancer.
A year later the European Commission banned 36 hair dyes which put long-term users at risk of bladder cancer. < < < <â¨
The chemical is not new and is present in a number of brands of dark hair colours, acting to help adhere the dye to the hair so that it doesn't wash out. Itâs made from coal tar and is used in both permanent and semi-permanent hair colours. Itâs well-known to be a cause of serious allergic reactions -- including something called contact dermatitis which can lead to rashes, blisters, and open sores.
PPD is sometimes added to black henna tattoos and that using them is not safe. Allergic reactions usually begin within two to 10 days following application. One bad reaction can lead to sensitivities to other products such as hair dye, sunblock and some types of clothing dyes. Oftentimes, it's using the product a second or third time. Skin specialist Najjia Ashraf reveals that there are barely any dyes that donât contain this toxin; even the ones who claim they donât, are not being honest. âBig brands often escape the blame by suggesting they are ammonia-free. However, ammonia and PPD are two very different things and PPD is present in nearly every dye because it is what gives off the colour,â she explains.
Hair Color Expert Help...?
Lovely Gir
i want to dye my hair blonde/and lavender....but i dont know how to get it to those exact colors when my hair is brownish-red/dark brown...and i dont want to use the permanent dyes with peroxide.
could i use a rinse or semi-permanent hair color and apply it everyday until it reaches those colors?
Thank You for your help!!
Answer
Well if your hair is deep red/brown you may have to have it stripped (if you have used hair dyes before) You could try using the semi's or rinse's as i have recomended a few of these to friends of mine and their hair looks really good. But it might take you a while to get it to the colour you want as they are very weak. Why not pop into your hairdressers and ask them about getting the colour you want without harsh chemicals, all hairdressing dyes are different and some semi's at the salon can be very cheap and give a great colour. Also you could try on a few wigs to see if you suit it, and if your brave enough just go and get it done permanent. Remember is easier to dye blonde hair back to brown. Hope this helps, and have fun :) xoxo
Is red hair a bad colour to choose?
al
I was thinking of dying my hair red, but my friend say's that's how emo's have it :/
what do you think?
Answer
Red is a really fun color!
You just have to pick the right shade for your skin color. It is a high maintenance color though, it definitely fades the fastest (I've been every color and Red is the hardest to maintain). The good thing about that though is if you decide you don't like it, it'll be gone in a few weeks!
I was really lucky, I did it myself and followed ALL the directions and it came out well.
Red is not an 'emo' hair color, it's all about how you wear it. If you want to try it, do it! It's just hair! It grows back and if it's really bad, you can get it fixed.
Good luck!
Would I suit red hair?
Sasha
I'm going to buy extensions after I dye it but I'm not sure if I can pull this colour off!
Answer
Red hair can go beautifully with blue eyes and tanned skin! The key to hair color, like lip color, is finding a shade that suits your skin tone; not your eyes, or clothing, etc. It also depends on how light, or dark you'd like it, or with what undertones. You could choose copper, with orange undertones. Or copper with brown undertones! Just look. If you're unsatisfied with the first color choice, just wait at LEAST a month, and try for another shade! Red is very difficult to adjust to, and the color bleeds/fades very easily. So constant maintenance is a downfall, but if you really enjoy being a red-head, you'll find it worth it!
Answer
History
In the Stone and Bronze Ages, Ireland was inhabited by Picts in the north and a people called the Erainn in the south, the same stock, apparently, as in all the isles before the Anglo-Saxon invasion of Britain. About the 4th century B.C., tall, red-haired Celts arrived from Gaul or Galicia. They subdued and assimilated the inhabitants and established a Gaelic civilization. By the beginning of the Christian Era, Ireland was divided into five kingdomsâUlster, Connacht, Leinster, Meath, and Munster. Saint Patrick introduced Christianity in 432, and the country developed into a center of Gaelic and Latin learning. Irish monasteries, the equivalent of universities, attracted intellectuals as well as the pious and sent out missionaries to many parts of Europe and, some believe, to North America.
Norse depredations along the coasts, starting in 795, ended in 1014 with Norse defeat at the Battle of Clontarf by forces under Brian Boru. In the 12th century, the pope gave all of Ireland to the English Crown as a papal fief. In 1171, Henry II of England was acknowledged âLord of Ireland,â but local sectional rule continued for centuries, and English control over the whole island was not reasonably absolute until the 17th century. In the Battle of the Boyne (1690), the Catholic King James II and his French supporters were defeated by the Protestant King William III (of Orange). An era of Protestant political and economic supremacy began.
By the Act of Union (1801), Great Britain and Ireland became the âUnited Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland.â A steady decline in the Irish economy followed in the next decades. The population had reached 8.25 million when the great potato famine of 1846â1848 took many lives and drove more than 2 million people to immigrate to North America.
In the meantime, anti-British agitation continued along with demands for Irish home rule. The advent of World War I delayed the institution of home rule and resulted in the Easter Rebellion in Dublin (April 24â29, 1916), in which Irish nationalists unsuccessfully attempted to throw off British rule. Guerrilla warfare against British forces followed proclamation of a republic by the rebels in 1919. The Irish Free State was established as a dominion on Dec. 6, 1922, with six northern counties remaining as part of the United Kingdom. A civil war ensued between those supporting the Anglo-Irish Treaty that established the Irish Free State and those repudiating it because it led to the partitioning of the island. The Irish Republican Army (IRA), led by Eamon de Valera, fought against the partition but lost. De Valera joined the government in 1927 and became prime minister in 1932. In 1937 a new constitution changed the nation's name to Ãire. Ireland remained neutral in World War II.
In 1948, De Valera was defeated by John A. Costello, who demanded final independence from Britain. The Republic of Ireland was proclaimed on April 18, 1949, and withdrew from the Commonwealth. From the 1960s onward two antagonistic currents dominated Irish politics. One sought to bind the wounds of the rebellion and civil war. The other was the effort of the outlawed Irish Republican Army and more moderate groups to bring Northern Ireland into the republic. The âtroublesââthe violence and terrorist acts between Republicans and Unionists in both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Irelandâwould plague the island for the remainder of the century and beyond.
Under the First Programme for Economic Expansion (1958â1963), economic protection was dismantled and foreign investment encouraged. This prosperity brought profound social and cultural changes to what had been one of the poorest and least technologically advanced countries in Europe. Ireland joined the European Economic Community (now the EU) in 1973. In the 1990 presidential election, Mary Robinson was elected the republic's first woman president. The election of a candidate with socialist and feminist sympathies was regarded as a watershed in Irish political life, reflecting the changes taking place in Irish society. Irish voters approved the Maastricht Treaty, which paved the way for the establishment of the EU, by a large majority in a referendum held in 1992. In 1993, the Irish and British governments signed a joint peace initiative (the Downing Street Declaration), which affirmed Northern Ireland's right to self-determination. A referendum on allowing divorce under certain conditionsâhitherto constitutionally forbiddenâwas narrowly passed in Nov. 1995.
In 1998 hope for a solution to the troubles in Northern Ireland seemed palpable. A landmark settlement, the Good Friday Agreement of April 10, 1998, called for Protestants to share political power with the minority Catholics and gave the Republic of Ireland a voice in the affairs of Northern Ireland. The resounding commitment to the settlement was demonstrated in a dual referendum on May 22: the North approved the accord by a vote of 71% to 29%, and in the Irish Republic 94% favored it. After numerous stops and starts, the new government in Northern Ireland was formed on Dec. 2, 2000, but it has been suspended four times since then (and has remained suspended since Oct. 2002) primarily because of Sinn Fein's reluctance to disarm its military wing, the IRA. In 2005, however, the IRA renounced armed struggle, and peace again seemed possible.
Despite a number of recent corruption and bribery scandals, most of which involved the centrist Fianna Fáil Party of Prime Minister Bertie Ahern, the party won 81 of 166 seats in May 2002. Ahern became the first Irish prime minister in 33 years to be elected to a second successive term.
Once a country plagued with high unemployment, high inflation, slow growth, and a large public debt, Ireland has undergone an extraordinary economic transformation in the last 15 years. Formerly an agriculture-based economy, the âCeltic Tigerâ has become a leader in high-tech industries. In some recent years its economy has grown as much as 10%.
On April 2, 2008, in the midst of corruption accusations, Prime Minister Bertie Ahern announced his resignation, effective as of May 6, 2008.
On May 7, 2008, the former finance minister, Brian Cowen, was elected the new prime minister by an 88 to 76 parliamentary vote. Upon election, Cowen announced the appointment of new finance, justice, and foreign affairs ministers.
On June 13, 2008, Ireland, the only country in the 27-member EU that put the Lisbon Treaty to a popular vote, rejected the new treaty, jeopardizing the future of the pact that would have strengthened the EUâs influence in global politics.
Should i get red hair?
Val Mcneil
ok i realize everyone is dying there hair red and yes its very annoying but i would like to try it on me just to see how it would come out but im also scared what should i do? i currently have a medium brown hair and platinum blonde on the bottom and on my bangs
Answer
You will need to color all of your hair brown first before you color it red. The blond parts of your hair will look pink or orange, depending on what shade of red you use if you do not color it first.
I color my hair red and I have better luck at home than at the salon. None of them seem to get the red how I want it. No matter how much I pay. It is also very expensive to upkeep because you will need to color it about every 4 weeks. Red fades quickly.
If you want a natural looking red, Loreal "Red Penny" is like the perfect Will & Grace shade of copper/red. People think I am a natural redhead. I alternate with Feria "Copper Shimmer". If you like more of a burgundy or cherry color, you may not like these. These are copper shades.
What color should i dye my hair?
Q. My eyes are grey blue, i get really pale in the winter, but i tan a lot in the summer, MY hair right now is a golden brownish/blonde and i have pretty light eyebrows....:) THANKS :)
Answer
red hair?
Only thing is it's hard to upkeep, but I loved my hair when I was a red head!
Red head people(ginger heads)....?
Sherminato
Where does the ginger hair come from?...is it only from ireland or can other europeans have it,spaniards,italians,british you get the point.
Also,if an american has ginger hair could we assume they have irish ancestors?
Answer
red hair occurs naturally on approximately 1â2% of the human population.[1] It occurs more frequently (2â6%) in people of northern or western European ancestry, and less frequently in other populations. Red hair appears in people with two copies of a recessive gene on chromosome 16 which causes a mutation in the MC1R protein.
Red hair varies from a deep burgundy through burnt orange to bright copper. It is characterized by high levels of the reddish pigment pheomelanin and relatively low levels of the dark pigment eumelanin. The term redhead (originally redd hede) has been in use since at least 1510.[2] It is associated with fair skin color, lighter eye colors (gray, blue, green, and hazel), freckles, and sensitivity to ultraviolet light.[3]
Cultural reactions have varied from ridicule to admiration; many common stereotypes exist regarding redheads and they are often portrayed as fiery-tempered.
In fact the USA, has the most red heads. It is estimated that 2â6% of the population has red hair. This would give the U.S. the largest population of redheads in the world, at 6 to 18 million, compared to approximately 650,000 in Scotland and 420,000 in Ireland.
The pigment pheomelanin gives red hair its distinctive color. Red hair has far more of the pigment pheomelanin than it has of the dark pigment eumelanin. So the more pigment pheomelanin the brighter your hair is.
Origins
Red hair is the rarest natural hair color in humans. The non-tanning skin associated with red hair may have been advantageous in far-northern climates where sunlight is scarce. Studies by Bodmer and Cavalli-Sforza (1976) hypothesized that lighter skin pigmentation prevents rickets in colder climates by encouraging higher levels of Vitamin D production and also allows the individual to retain heat better than someone with darker skin.[30] In 2000, Harding et al. concluded that red hair was not the result of positive selection and instead proposed that it occurs because of a lack of negative selection. In Africa, for example, red hair is selected against because high levels of sun would be harmful to untanned skin. However, in Northern Europe this does not happen, so redheads come about through genetic drift.[27]
Estimates on the original occurrence of the currently active gene for red hair vary from 20,000 to 100,000 years ago.[31][32]
A DNA study has concluded that some Neanderthals also had red hair, although the mutation responsible for this differs from that which causes red hair in modern humans.[33]
Red hair is a gene basically. It is in your DNA. You inherit it, it doesn't come from a particular place. Many think Scots or Irish are where you find the most red heads, but in fact it is the USA.
All from Wiki...Plus my brain...And other sites...Plus I saw some of it in a book. So I got it from various things.
If you have natural red hair, does that mean you carry the redhead gene?
~*~Lacey~*
If your hair is red, are you more likely to have a kid with red hair than someone who also carries the gene, but doesn't have red hair??
Answer
Red hair (also referred to as titian or ginger hair) varies from a deep orange-red through burnt orange to bright copper. It is characterized by high levels of the reddish pigment pheomelanin and relatively low levels of the dark pigment eumelanin. People with red hair are often referred to as redheads or gingers.
Approximately 1% to 2% of the human population has red hair. It occurs more frequently (between 2% and 6% of the population) in northern and western Europeans, and their descendants, and at lower frequencies throughout other parts of the world.
Red hair appears in people with two copies of a recessive gene on chromosome 16 which causes a mutation in the MC1R protein. This means that :-
(a) If you are red hair and married a person with red hair. You will have kids with red hair only.
(b) If you are red hair and marries a person with no red hair and do not carry the genes for red hair. All your kids will not have red hair.
(c) If you are red hair and marries a person with no red hair but they carry the genes for red hair. You might get some kids with red hair and some without red hair.
RED HAIR QUESTION?! how to get bright red....?
lalalala.
I have dark brown hair, with bleached strands through which have been dyed red by my hairdresser which have gone like bright red. n the rest WAS all a dark brown, dark, dark red.
I have since then thrown over red dyes to get more red, which has gone perfectly fine!
If i bleach my own hair, myself only bits of it, and get a red hair dye will it be ok? Not go ginger or yellow or green.
Answer
Red dye over bleached hair can get really orange-y, so definitely let your stylist do the red part. You also want to be careful of what's in your bleach product and your stylist's dyes. Even though you rinse your hair really well, the hair shaft can still be coated in color. If the product you use is incompatible with your stylist's product, it could fry your hair.
If you're looking for an auburn kind of red, you might like the results you get using body art quality henna. Make sure you find BAQ, though, because any lesser quality could potentially react to the bleaching process just as badly as traditional dyes.
how can i redden ash blond hair naturally?
little_g0l
My hair is an ashy blonde. I've dyed it before and it held onto the red colour really well. Does anyone know of a shampoo or natural way of bringing out red highlights in hair? I look so much better with red or gold tones that they blue ash tone I have naturally but I don't want to dye it or use henna.
Answer
Tea! You can make hair rinses out of tea that will not only nourish your hair, but provide a little bit of color as well. Find as many red-colored herbs or fruit+herb mixtures that you can. Raspberry tea, cherry tea, and cranberry tea all yield a reddish color. You could also use juices, but they won't nourish the hair, they'll probably make the hair sticky. Make the tea very strong and put it in a pitcher to cool. After you've rinsed out your conditioner and turned off your water, pour the rinse over your hair. You likely won't have to wash it out. Try this when you have some time to kill, that way you'll know how your hair will react (if it will be sticky, if the tea will need to be rinsed out of the hair afterward, etc.). I know that Celestial Seasonings Raspberry Zinger tea is very red.
You could also try dark red beer. Beer is wonderful for the hair because it contains hops, which naturally softens hair and skin.
Both tea and beer (but beer to a greater extent) will provide your hair with luster and shine. It's even better if you use them cold right after a warm shower; the blast of coldness will cause the hair shaft to harden much more quickly than it would on its own, increasing the shine and manageability of your hair. It may take a couple of rinses and trial and error before you see results in color, though.
Medium roast coffee will also bring out depth in your hair, and the caffeine will stimulate your scalp, which will increase the circulation of blood to the surface of the skin, aiding in hair growth and helping the scalp naturally distribute oils to the rest of the hair shaft, which would make your hair shiny. Everything we put on our skin contains chemicals that get absorbed into our bloodstream, but a very minimal amount of caffeine would actually make it in. Afterward, you could use the coffee grounds to make a body scrub for yourself. You could do the same thing with any tea leaves you have left-over -- I mix little concoctions of loose tea leaves, herbs, and coffee grounds all the time. Sorry, I know that's irrelevant to your question, but, hey, beauty can be cheap. Really cheap. So I thought I'd throw that in there.
Good luck! And, remember, if you don't see results right away, give it a little bit of time. Our eyes rarely pick up on slight differences in color. You might have to take pictures of your hair to get an objective idea of whether your rinses are working; that way, you'll know which teas to keep using and which ones to stop buying. If you find that any of these darken your hair too much for your liking, you can use chamomile tea with a squirt of lemon to lighten the hair. You can also make nourishing hair masks out of honey that will lighten hair as well.
This is a bit scattered, I know. I'm in a bit of a hurry.
I've had my hair red before, but I'm looking for opinions on whether or not I should dye it red again.
My hair isn't this dark currently so you know:
Answer
I wouldnt recommend red hair for you.
You have a cool skin tone - red doesnt go with cool skin tones compared to warms.
You have a good skin color tone that combines good with the hair color you have now - try only getting highlights with a bit of a lighter color abour 2-3 shades lighter, it'll brighten up your face mostly cheeks and chin.
Cool hair colors for tan skin?
Iris
Okay for starters, in summer my skin gets a tad tanner than usual. So as of right now my skin color is tan yet pale. Does that make any sense? Well anyway, I'm wanting to dye my hair a unique color; such as pink, blue, etc. What color would look best with my skin tone?
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thank you (:
Answer
I would just go with darkish red. My best friend has it, an she's pretty tan, and she looks REALLY good!
But as for the 'unique' color wise, I would go with pink.
BUT, TAKE MY ADVICE! I HAVE HAD PINK HAIR FOR TWO YEARS!
In order to get the pink color you want, you have to bleach it. If you dont want to bleach it, you'll be out of luck. But BE CAREFUL WHEN BLEACHING! If you can afford it, I would get a professional to do it. If not, have a friend help you out to make sure you get the bleach COMPLETELY covering the your ENTIRE HAIR, or the hair you want.
When you have your pink hair, it will fade FAST. You MUST keep up with it, otherwise it will end up looking terrible later on. Take this advice also: Buy more pink hair dye (one or two bottles, depending how often you want to keep doing this), and DEEP CONDITIONER THAT IS WHITE. Doesn't matter who makes the conditioner, as long as its WHITE, and a DEEP CONDITIONER. (Note: You don't HAVE to have a deep conditioner, it will just help a lot more with damage and dryness than a normal conditioner would!)
What you want to do is pour out your WHITE conditioner into a nice, big bowl, and pour an entire bottle of pink hair dye into the WHITE conditioner that you have. (Or half a bottle of the pink hair dye, depending on how bright and vibrant you want your hair color to be.) Mix and stir it around for about a minute, or however long you prefer. Once that is done, pour it back into the bottle the conditioner came in.
What this will do, is every time you shampoo, your hair color will fade. What the now pink conditioner will do, is add back the color you shampoo'd out! Leave the conditioner in your hair for about 3-5 minutes, then wash it out. Yes, the conditioner WILL wash out just a little bit of the color from the conditioner, but hardly any. This is a good way to both deep conditioner the hair you bleached AND colored, AND keep the color lasting longer!
BEWARE! Depending on the brand of hair dye you get, it WILL STAIN TOWELS, SHEETS, PILLOWS, AND CLOTHES. So be careful to completely dry your hair once you're done washing it!
NOTE: For the WHITE conditioner, a hair color treatment conditioner will also be good. Conditioner for color treated hair will help the color last longer, so if you can find a WHITE conditioner like that, that would be a good alternative for other conditioners. Deep conditioner or color treated conditioner works either way, as long as its white.
Another note: You will need to keep bleaching your roots every few months, or until you think your dark roots are too long. It's okay to bleach over some of the pink when bleaching your roots, but try not to go over the pink hair too much. It'd be better to have a professional do it, or a friend to help you out. After that, put in some pink hair dye, leave it in for however long you want to, wash it out, and use the now pink conditioner you have! :)
how long does loreal red hair dye last?
okay i usually get bright red highlights at the hair salon and it usually lasts like around 3 months then it fades and theres a red tint in my hair for like the longest time. well my hair salon got in loreal hair dye that they say will last longer so i wanna get my hair done again soon and i just wanna know how long it lasts cuz i always have to beg my mom to let me cuz its so expensive >_<
Answer
red hair dye fades very quickly, the L'oreal one does too. You should try henna, like lush caca rouge for long lasting - until it grows out - red hair.
I have natural red hair, my friend has tryed to get red hair for ages, all dyes faded and she used the lush henna, after a year it is still red and she just does her roots. You can apply henna as highlights as well by just putting it on the bits of the hair you want done.
dying my hair with loreal hicolor in red?
prissy
first of all, bleaching my hair is not an option. i have naturally dar blonde hair but it is currently dyed black with a regular box dye. Ive had my hair red plenty of times, ive always always done it myself. ive used loreal hicolor before and it worked fine. im going for a bright bright red. ive had this dye on my hair for 50 mins now since it is so dark and my roots are of course the color i want but i can tell the rest is NOT taking well. I have another box of loreal hi color in red, and 30 volume. do you think rinsing this out and re-doing it will even everything out a bit? if i dont put it on my roots obviously. i also have a little bit of beyond the color zone in wild red left. would that help any? helpppp!
also, under the black dye is purple. i had purple hair for about 3 months and got sick of it. i dyed it box dye black twice to cover it, but that was 9 weeks ago. ive washed my hair multiple times since then so i assumed (which might have been a bad idea to do) that the black was faded enough to go red without bleach and that the purple had to be gone.
loreal hicolor is made for dark hair. no prelightening required, thats why im not doing a bleach wash.
Answer
The dyed black hair will not turn red no matter how hard you try. The L'Oreal HiColor is for people with NATURALLY dark hair, not for dyed dark hair. I suggest removing the color first with a Hair Color Remover, and then try dying it red again. It's very hard if not impossible to dye over dyed black hair, it is extremely damaging to your hair. Good luck! :)
