How do you dye natural red hair another color at home?

Jessica

My natural hair colour is a dark red/alburn. I want to dye it a dark brown. I have went to the salon twice to have this done and both times the permanent dye washed out with the first wash (and yes it was permanent). Someone said to strip my hair first but I don't want to do that if it's not going to help.

I do not want to go to a salon as my husband would flip with the costs... any advice? Do I have to buy a hair stripper or can I make up something safe to use with products from home?

Answer
I'd bleach it not for long and then wait a couple days to colour it otherwise it'll be phucked.

Best at home red hair color?

ahaha.

I dyed my hair at home a few months ago with L'oreal Superior Preference medium auburn and I'm planning on re-dyeing it but I'm looking for a more vibrant red color. What's the best at-home brand for vibrant red hair color? I'm thinking of trying Feria but I'm not sure. My natural color is a medium brown.

Answer
Use Feria!! I love their reds! They last for a good amount of time too! Avoid using Garnier, they fade after one week. Clairol is good dye but stick with Feria.

How do you keep red hair vibrant?

I'm going to color my hair a red color (a lot like Ashlee Simpson's was) but I know that the red dye doesn't stick to hair as long as others... so what kinds of things can I do so the color wont fade as fast? Also what products work the best?

Thanks in advance!

Answer
redken color protectants are the best of their kind.
always wash with COLD water. it keeps the hair shaft closed.
wash hair as less as you can...
reds fade in the sun. stay out of the sun or wear a hat!
heat also fades reds so use less heat!
hairspray, gels etc cause fading as well.

I had ariel red hair cor a few years. reds will fade no matter what you do to them, but i kinda did this and it helped save my red for about 2 weeeks extra!..try it!

To get dark red natural looking hair color, will box dye be okay?

Mary

I'm Asian and currently have dark brown hair though it's more on the darker side. I colored it 2 months ago with a "cool mahogany brown" by garnier and well it didn't really lighten my hair and i think it shaded quite quickly.

Just wondering if red hair dye will be enough to lighten it, or will it be too dark and it only shows in the sun?

I really want to avoid bleach...

Any ideas on what box color?

Answer
No, box red won't show up on black hair. Box dyes are only good for going two or three shades lighter or darker than your natural hair color. Anything more than that and you will need to lighten the hair before dyeing. You will need to remove the black color from your hair with a pre-lightener and THEN use a red dye. Hair salons can give you vibrant reds that last longer plus the methods they use to remove color is far gentler on the hair than drug store home bleach kits.

Is brown box color hair dye less damaging than red?

snoodledoo

My natural hair color is a dirty blonde but I've been dying it red (from a box) since July. I love the color but my hair texture is fine & the color is really starting to affect the health of my hair.

I am in kind of a rut because I don't want to go back to my natural hair color, however, I just had to chop off several inches of dead & damaged hair due to the box dye coloring.

I wouldn't mind going brown, but would it make a difference in the damage caused to my hair? Is brown hair box dye less damaging than red hair box dye?

Answer
Before I respond, I'd like you to read the following:
HAIR COLOR & YOUR HEALTH: Personality & health risks.
There is a strong belief among some people that a personâs hair color can tell you some about their personality.  A new study out of Harvard suggests hair color can also tell you about a personâs health risks
Top doctors say you can tell a lot about a personâs health from their hair color:
-Blondes have a higher risk of melanoma, especially on their scalps, and should always wear a hat in direct sunlight.
-Brunettes are more likely to suffer from hair loss, and can help prevent it by getting enough iron (dark leafy vegetables are high in iron).
-And a Harvard study finds redheads may have a 90% greater chance of developing Parkinsonâs Disease because of a specific gene mutation. Housecall for Health, Iâm Colleen Cappon, FOX News Radio. Dec-10-12
THURSDAY, May 9 (HealthDay News) -- The red in redheads' hair is thought to put them at increased risk of the dangerous skin cancer melanoma, even if they don't spend a lot of time in the sun, according to a new study.

My answer: It's not a yes or no answer.
Style meets chemistry meets biology: We're talking hair coloring.

Playing with chemicals is not like playing with clothes, or doing a manicure, there are penalties for playing chemicals in the lab. Even hair color experts at the salon are not rocket scientists, they do a bang up dye jobs to their clients or their own hair.

Chemicals can enter the body through the skin.
> > > Hair dye chemicals linked to cancer
London, Feb 20, 2013 I've been saying that since 2009.
Hair dyes, which include home hair colouring kits and those used at pricey salons, are linked to deadly cancer-causing chemicals, warn scientists. In 2009 the Mail revealed that women who used hair dyes more than nine times a year had a 60% greater risk of contracting blood cancer.
A year later the European Commission banned 36 hair dyes which put long-term users at risk of bladder cancer. < < < <â¨

The allergic reaction was caused by a well-known brand of semi-permanent hair dye Chloe used to turn her hair black for a Halloweâen party. . . . . called for beauty bosses to ban hair dye chemical PPD (para-phenylenediamine) from the shelves. 11-04-11

The chemical is not new and is present in a number of brands of dark hair colours, acting to help adhere the dye to the hair so that it doesn't wash out. Itâs made from coal tar and is used in both permanent and semi-permanent hair colours. Itâs well-known to be a cause of serious allergic reactions -- including something called contact dermatitis which can lead to rashes, blisters, and open sores.
PPD is sometimes added to black henna tattoos and that using them is not safe. Allergic reactions usually begin within two to 10 days following application. One bad reaction can lead to sensitivities to other products such as hair dye, sunblock and some types of clothing dyes. Oftentimes, it's using the product a second or third time. Skin specialist Najjia Ashraf reveals that there are barely any dyes that donât contain this toxin; even the ones who claim they donât, are not being honest. âBig brands often escape the blame by suggesting they are ammonia-free. However, ammonia and PPD are two very different things and PPD is present in nearly every dye because it is what gives off the colour,â she explains.

The British woman who went into coma after a reaction to hair dye has died after a year. Updated 11-25-12. The woman suffered a heart failure, struggled for breath and became unconsciousness. Her family blamed paraphenylenediamine, a chemical found in hair colour. Her family has now called for paraphenylenediamine to be banned from home dye kits. Hair dream interpretation?

Collegiate

So I've had this same hair dream twice. I wake up look in the mirror I notice that my dark brown hair is a little lighter, them I keep looking through my hair and patches of it are a deep red or Platinum blonde(almost white) to the point where it looks like a disease and I start freaking out in my dream. It's kinda scary even though it doesn't sound scary, what could it mean?

Answer
To see hair in your dream, signifies sexual virility, seduction, sensuality, vanity, and health. It is indicative of your attitudes. If your hair is knotted or tangled, then it is symbolic of uncertainty and confusion in your life. You may be unable to think straight. If you dream that you make a drastic change to your hairstyle, then it means that you are making a drastic, new approach to some issue in your waking life. If the wind is blowing through your hair, then it signifies freedom to express uninhibited feelings. You are "letting your hair down".
To dream that you are cutting your hair, suggests that you are experiencing a loss in strength. You may feel that someone is trying to censor you. Alternatively, you may be reshaping your thinking or ambitions and eliminating unwanted thoughts/habits.
To dream that you are combing or styling your hair, suggests that you are taking on and evaluating a new idea, concept, outlook, or way of thinking. You may be putting your thoughts in order and getting your facts straight. A more literal interpretation suggests your concerns about your self-image and appearance.
To dream that someone is smelling your hair, indicates sexual curiosity and your need for some sensual stimulation. You have a lot to learn about a relationship. The way yours or someone else's hair smell may remind your of a particular person. If you are reaching for someone else's hair, then it suggests that you are trying to connect with that person on a spiritual or intellectual level. It also refers to sympathy, protectiveness, and fraternal love. *View Dream Bank: "Washing Hair"

Will my children have red hair and blue eyes?

CaliGrlatH

I am of Hispanic descent, I have brown hair and brown eyes. My fiancé is of scottish descent, has blue eyes and red hair. What are the chances of my children having red hair or blue eyes?

Answer
Brown eyes are almost always dominant over blue eyes. So most likely he will have brown eyes. But could still have blue eyes which is pretty rare. Now with the hair color the baby gets the genes from both parents so it could be either brown or red hair. You have 50/50 chance. But say your family has all brown hair and his family is scattered with red hair and brunettes. You would mostly likely have the dominant gene. You could also get genes from grandmother or other relative in the family.

Can black people have red hair and green or blue eyes?

I'm In Thi

Answer
Yeah. It's rare though.
Red hair is more likely in black females.
Blue Eyes are more likely in black males.
Green eyes are more likely in black females but only by a small percentage.

Like her for example:

You need to have the gene passed on though. From one that has the genetic mutation.

I'm not sure whether I was born with brown eyes or not, but I have red curly hair, brown eyes and I'm left handed. So is my older brother. My older sister also has red curly hair and brown eyes, but she's right-handed.

People keep talking about how rare it is to have brown eyes and red hair, but personally I only know two or three gingers who DON'T have brown eyes, so I'm skeptical...
HIGH FIVE FOR GINGER LEFTIES!

I'm not sure what the percentage is, though. Sorry :\

whats mainly japanese natural hairs color ?

NAKAMURA

i saw on many drama most of them dark brown
is that so ?

Answer
It's usually a dark dark brown, almost black color, or a regular brown. In dramas, people dye their hair a lot and it looks natural.. Like, having light brown hair, or a red-tint hair. But really, it's mainly a brown or dark dark brown color...
But, you know, people can have natural red, or blonde, or reaaally light brown. -Shrugs.- But most japanese dramas have dark brown haired girls..

Japanese straight perm?!?! ?

KcLooney10

I heard that japanese straight perms give you cancer, so I am just checking since im thinking of getting one..my hairs relly thick so I really really want one. Thankss!

Answer
It is not true that japanese straight perms give you cancer. It is a complete lie, all those times were coincidences I guess... But if your planning to get them... they are fabulous. I recommend Amy's salon, if you want to get a good one.Amy's is a diamond in the rough. She offers high-end services such as the Brazilian Blowout and Japanese straight perm at very competitive prices. It is nearly in Burien, in a little house remodel ed into a salon. When I called, Amy herself answered the phone. But don't be fooled by the modesty of the salon because I was very impressed by the salon and services.

I scheduled an appointment for hair straightening. I was given a consultation to see which straightening service would suit my needs. Amy measured my hair (cost is measured by how much hair in inches after shoulder length) and showed me a breakdown of how much it would cost. The Brazilian Blowout loosens the curl and improves the overall look of your hair (silky and shiny). The Japanese straight perm changes the chemical makeup of your cuticle. You will step out the shower with straight hair. It is also nearly twice the price. Grow out is also more obvious.

I went with the Brazilian Blowout, which was very popular. Every person in the salon while I was there was getting it done. There was three stylists (including Amy) and four clients, which we were rotated between color, shampoo, straightening, drying, etc. While one person was under the lamp for highlights, the others were getting their hair straightened, flat ironed, or shampooed, etc. It was very busy. I highly recommend setting an appointment a week in advance. Because I was getting my hair straightened, coloured, cut, and styled, I was there about 4 hours. They offer you snacks and beverages since you're there for so long. In the Brazilian Blowout, they paint your hair with the relaxer, blow dry it, and flat iron it. This seals in the product. Then they wash it out, blow dry it, and flat iron it again. Add color and style services to that and you see why I was there for 4 hours.

I was really impressed by the consultation. Amy is very upfront with what you will expect and how much you will be charged. This was very appreciated because you don't want to be surprised with what you expected to pay. For the Brazilian Blowout, highlights, overall color, cut, style, and 2 products, I paid about $500. If you research other salons, you will know this is an absolute steal.

After 4 hours, my hair was GORGEOUS. If you have curly hair, you know you will never have silky, soft hair. BUT I DID. It was completely straight, smooth, and silky. The fact that I had just gotten my hair straightened and coloured, AND that my hair looked like that was AMAZING. I wanted to go a light red. But Amy (in her experience and intelligent insight) recommended we go a little darker red in order to keep my hair healthy. The result was gorgeous. I was really happy with the color we agreed on because it was multidimensional.

After washing my hair, it is now in soft waves. It is important to use the after care products (sulfate-free shampoo) to retain your investment. The Brazilian Blowout will NOT make your hair bone straight. It just softens the curl. Depending how tight your curl is, you may go from curly to wavy. But it also makes it soft and shiny. If you want completely straight hair, you should go with the Japanese straight perm.

I've been to many other high-end salons, (I personally hate Gene Juarez- they ruined my hair!) and never have been so satisfied with the end result. I really feel like I got my money's worth. Thank you, Amy, for a great experience. I'll be back!

Is red hair considered light colored hair?

JT

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Light_hair_coloration_map.png

this is a map of light colored hair in europe

i want to know if you think red hair is included in the light part

thanks

Answer
Under the map it states that redheads are excluded from the map.

If you just generally want to know if red hair is considered a light hair, then it depends on the shade.. .if it's strawberry, then yes. If it's auburn, then it's considered dark. It is probably because of this great difference in light and dark among the many different shades that redheads were excluded from the map.

Looking for a painting!?

im looking for a paint which i forgot the name and the artist. it is a portrait of a couple. The painting must be old and migt be from a scene from Shakespear's play. The red hair lady is on the horse, looking at a knight. The knight looks up the lady, standing straight beside the horse, his hand on his chest.

Answer
The one that springs immediately to mind is:

Frank Dicksee (1853-1928)
La Belle Dame Sans Merci

http://www.artrenewal.org/asp/database/art.asp?aid=29

but the knight doesn't have his hand on his chest. Not Shakespeare either, but from the poem of the same name by Keats.

Arthur Hughes (1832-1915) also did a La Belle Dame Sans Merci, again, not hand on chest but almost...

So would the color show on my natural hair??
i have manic panic Red and color splat purple :D which one should i do?

Answer
Depending on the dye: yes. But it will most likely only give a hint of color. To prevent that, clip away all the hair you don't want colored, and put the dye on the blond only as much as you can. It doesn't have to be perfect! That way you'll be pretty safe :D

brown hair colour fades very fast. you could end up with that colour in two weeks. don't worry, brown is one of the least problematic hair dyes. black and red cause havoc but if you just wash your hair thorough every day over the next few weeks it will almost certainly look a lot different.

100% Mexican with red hair?

Dick

I am full mexican, i have traced my ancestry on both sides as far back as 1840 and everyone was mexican (originated from mid mexico), i am curious though as to why i am freckled and have red hair?

Answer
You dummies, red hair does not come from genes in the usual way. You dont need red hair ancestry to have it. Its just a deficiency in the dark coloring of the hair that comes from some specific gene, which interestingly gets activated more often in places where people are less exposed to UV rays, like Ireland and Scotland, so that way they can produce more Vitamin D. Its a human acclimitazation tool.

Retouching Red Ombre Hair?

RoseInABou

On new years eve I did a Red ombre on my hair. Brunette on the top going into a red. It still has most of it's color but, I was wondering if I could do a touch up before I go on vacation in a week. I originally used L'Oreal Excellence HiColor Reds for Dark Hair Only in Red Hot. Also when I did it first I didnt get all the parts that I wanted. Is there a different brand I could use to touch it up and color the parts I missed? Or should I just use the brand I already used again? Would it get like extremely red if I used the same one?
Also is there a good brand with small amounts of dye because in the L'Oreal it's a bigger tube of coloring. I don't wanna have to make the entire thing and waste most of it. I don't need that much coloring.

Answer
I would recommend use the same brand, and here's why
some red and black dyes from some specific brands use a metallic base, so if you had a non metallic and use a metallic then the color will stain, or if it's the other way around, you had a metallic base and use a non metallic, the color may wash off too soon, also the different levels of chemicals between brands may damage your hair.
Also remember that even if the box says that the ''tone'' is the same, it may resolve to a slightly different hue once applied, happened to me with the same shade of blonde in two different brands, both claimed to be ''10-1'' but the first one i tried was a beautiful silvery color and the second brand turned out a little greenish... not the platinum i was looking for!
If someone has recommended a brand that is very very good and moisturizes your hair, then give it a try, but if possible, stick to the one brand that treats your hair gentler.
If you're afraid of your hair ending up a flaming exaggerated red, then leave it on for half the time stated in the instructions, anyway you're only doing a touchup and there isn't a root that needs extra time, so instead of, let's say 20 minutes, leave it on for 10, rinse it and if you haven't gotten to the desired intensity, dry your hair and do it again for another 10 minutes... good thing is hair is fairly easy to fix, and even if it's ruined, you can cut it off and let it grow back again!
you don't need to prepare the whole thing. to avoid waste, use a plastic container, use equal amounts of both parts of the formula and an old toothbrush to mix and apply it, close the unused parts very tightly and store them in a dry cool place, the reason i say plastic is to avoid the dye to oxidize and turn out a different tone in your hair... remember to use and save the gloves for the next time you want to do it. if the formula remains UNMIXED, then nothing will happen to it as long as it's very well closed and stored. and if you're a little short on the mix, you can always prepare more!

Right red hair color?

angelica

So, I've been dying my hair red, but I want an really vivid hair color! Like ariel (; and I don't want to use manic panic or splat. My hair is light brown right now because during summer I let my hair breathe, and I want to have red for school, but I don't want it to fade into that ugly orange blonde, that's so skanky! And I have pale skin, with alittle tint to it and dark green eyes, with natural red lips that have that huge angelina jolie pout (and yeah I really do!) What do you think?

Answer
I recently found a gem for bright red hair color! L'Oreal Excellence HiColor in Red Hot my peekaboo highlights came out fire engine red, its an intense color but I've seen ppl on youtube do it all over their hair and it looks so cool. Here's the link for the products website: http://www.lorealtechnique.com/hicolor_01.shtml

I didn't need to use a developer or bleach cause my hair was already orange blonde (I was "skanky" for a couple of days lol) from fade out from previous bleaching, so i just mixed the creme with the red intensifier and left it on my hair for 15 minutes instead of 30min since my hair was already lightened. Its an awesome product! On sale at Sally Beauty buy 2 get 1 free its like $6 and some change.

I also recommend Riveting Reds shampoo ($5 @ Sally Beauty) to keep the red longer and Matrix Biolage Colorcaretherapie conditioner which keeps hair hydrated and frizz free. When I first color my hair instead of the regular conditioner I use One 'n Only Argan Oil Moisture Repair Conditioner its .99 at Sally Beauty.

After coloring, don't forget to wash your hair in tepid to cold water to keep your hair follicles from expanding and releasing the color. You will want to rinse till the water runs clear in the shower/sink.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

why does my red hair coloring keep coming out?

My mom did everything the box said. But 3-4 weeks later when I go to dry it I find more red in the towel! When I look into the mirror I see red but also brown which was my previous hair color! So that's proof that the red is coming out. I use head and shoulders shampoo and conditioner from a previous hair coloring box. Other colors that I had (carmel color, blond) didn't come out!?!? I don't understand what went wrong. I love the red hair color so I would really appreciate it if someone could tell me what's wrong and how I can fix it. Thanks =)

Answer
I hear ya(: I used to have beautiful dyed red hair & this is how I maintained it.

1. First try to stay out of the sun, this fades your hair color, & also turns it into a brassy kind of red which doesn't look very nice. If you are going into the sun, try wear something like a hat or a scarf to protect your hair. You can also try putting conditioner or sunblock into your hair, this way the sun won't penetrate it. The sun can dry out your hair as well, who wants a head full of dry frizzy red hair? You see more damage on red hair than darker hair, so take a lot of precautions.

.2. Always after you color your hair, try to use a shampoo/conditioner that is for color treated hair. People always feel that they shouldn't use a certain product, but in most cases from being a hairdresser myself I feel that you should. It doesn't mean you have to use the most expensive products out there, you can use some of the cheap products as long as they are for color treated hair. To tell you the honest truth some of the cheaper products are so much better on the hair. Some products that are really good are the generic brand for matrix which is put out by suave, john Freida product, Pantene products etc. I think you get the point I am trying to get across.

3. Another tip is to not wash it so often, this will fade out the red, & you will have recolor it sooner than you thought. I have noticed that when I color a clients hair that I have to redo it around 6 weeks later, & refresh it in between. Try to wash it 2 times a week, that way you'll save money.

4. To refresh it yourself you can buy a red color that matches, mix the color with shampoo in a bottle, apply it to your head & wait 8 minutes or so, then rinse it out well & apply conditioner on it. Or if you don't feel confident enough then buy a red shampoo hair color, that works as enhancer to your red hair, there are many brands to help you until your next hair appointment.

Good luck!

Embracing my gray hairs?

AV

So I'm 20 and really want to embrace the massive amount of gray hair I have, I'm just not sure how to get it colored. I want to get it colored to make the grays flow with the rest of my hair, I just don't know what I should get and what would look good.

I have looong dark brown hair and my gray hairs mainly are on the top part of my head where you would part it on both sides. I also have a few underneath and just throughout my whole head and on my sides.

Anyone know of what kind of color I should think of getting? Like would gray highlights be weird? Or if any hair stylists are reading this, what would you recommend for a client trying to embrace their grays?

DYK: there are 15 shades of colors for blond hair? Red has about 5-7 shades of colors in them. But people don't know that, because they're always covering their hair with hair dyes.

I EMBRACE my platinum hair, I never call them silver nor do I call them GRAY. Platinum is the richest more expensive metal, compared to silver or the color gray. I have 4 natural colors on mine: platinum more than 25%, and a balance mixture of blue-black (my orig. color), dark brown & light brown. Sometimes, platinum @ the end of my hair, and blue-black or dark brown @ the roots like it just can't make up its mind if it wants all platinum or all brown, etc. I also cover my hair from getting sunburned, platinum will become blonde, if they get sunburned, so I always try to wear a hat or umbrella. Even just from the heat of the sun, if your skin gets flakey, your hair will become discolored from sunburned. I avoid using any type of oil, oil burns, and I also try to avoid using heat & chemicals - hair's worst enemies, and will permanently discolor the hair.

What type of red should I dye my hair? Should I even dye it?

Jasmine

My family members have always said I have a nice skin complexion that goes with any color and they constantly remind me about it when I ask them if I look okay or if this color looks good with me. I honestly don't see what they mean. I wanna be Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas for Halloween (You're probably thinking ITS JULY WHY ARE YOU WORRYING ABOUT THIS NOW YOU PRICK but let me explain) and her hair is red so I dye my hair every summer (last time it was indigo) and since Sally's hair is red, I want to try to see what it looks like. I'm gonna bleach my hair (a trusted bleach, dont worry) then do it red. I know Sally's is like a deeper red and I think red might look better on me but I have tan skin and I'm not so sure how it will come out? Should I dye it light red or dark red after I bleach or lighten my hair? Heres a couple of pics of me, please no mean answers /;

Dying over dyed red hair - which type of colour?

Hannah

A while ago I dyed, well, tried to dye, my medium brown hair an auburn colour. Didnt come out right at all - i ended up with rusty orange roots, while the rest of my hair just became slightly redder than before.
I'm getting really sick of it, so i decided to dye it my natural colour and just leave it alone. The thing is, which tone of colour should i use - ash, neutral or warm??
I've heard some people telling me that i should use ash because it will cancel out the orange, but then others told me to use neutral because otherwise it wull look muddy brown. I'm confused =/
Also, will the blotchiness show through the brown, or will it kind of even things out?

Answer
If your hair already has red in it, you need to use an ash dye, but no, your hair will not become "muddy", it will look more neutral. I think you should consider striping your hair, and then redyeing it, this will even out the color, and provide a blank canvas for you. If you do bleach it, then keep in mind that your hair is most likely porous, which means that your hair will absorb the color more, and come out one level darker. Don't use a box dye because the developers are too harsh, and the results are too unpredictable. Go to a beauty supply to buy your hair dye/bleach.

~ "After you accept you for you, other people will say, 'You look so beautiful.' That's so nice. There's a fearlessness that comes with embracing yourself naturally."

Anderson Cooper, Jay Leno & Steve Martin went grey early..
Initially, hair is white. The cells in our hair follicles called âMelanocytesâ generate pigments the main one being Melanin. This gives our hair its âColorâ.
In general, the more melanin present, the darker the hair color; the less melanin, the lighter the hair color.
When these Melanocytes stop producing the pigment the result is a transparent hair. The transparent hair against your healthier darker hair gives the appearance of Gray hair. In reality the hair is not Gray but transparent.
Harvard scientists propose that a failure of melanocyte stem cells (MSC) to maintain the production of melanocytes could cause the graying of hair.
So, although stress is associated with many medical problems, there is no evidence that it can cause a personâs hair to turn white overnight.

The little boy down the street from me was born with gray bangs, as he got older to his teens, they became the rest of the color on his hair. I thought his mom was dyeing his hair, but they weren't. Their child's health was otherwise good, and there wasn't any more graying next several years or decades to come. If a child suddenly starts graying like about 4, pediatrician can advise the parents whether blood tests or an evaluation by a dermatologist or other specialist might be helpful to determine a potential cause for the child's gray hair.

Answer
I want your eyebrows!!
I have fair olive skin and medium brown hair. I use L'Oreal Feria #66 Ruby Rush. Your skin is darker, and your hair is about two shades darker than mine. I think you should be looking in the 40s or 50s shade range for color. There's a Power Reds R48 Red Velvet Deep Auburn, and an R57 Intense Medium Auburn. The deeper shade wouldn't "lift" as much, it would be just depositing color onto the hair. The lighter shade would lift a little from your brown shade, making the red color show up a bit more.
I have always had consistently good results from Feria, and the color lasts until I touch it up the following month. With your hair length, you're going to need two boxes. Go to the Loreal website and you should be able to find some coupons.

What is your best hair dye recommended?

Gina

Ive been dying my hair for the past 3 years, i have been brown red and purple (dark) I had my hair done by the hairsressers 2 weeks ago but they didnt do a very good job, im now ginger and want to go a nice medium brown.

Answer
Since I have no idea the hair texture and condition of your hair or the original color of your hair. . . . it's ONLY BEEN 2 weeks since your last . . . Overlapping dye onto previously colored hair is what creates dullness and dryness. If you color your hair @ home or salon, let your roots grow out as long as you can stand, so the line of demarcation is easier to spot. Only run color through the lengths for five minutes to refresh the ends. To extend the time between touch-ups, use a gloss and deep -conditioning treatments. They will help smooth cuticles roughed up by daily wear & tear, and the hair will look shinier. ~ Harry Josh, hairstylist of the celebrities.

Answer
From Ya member who was so depressed: "sallies beauty salon isnt really a salon is more of a hair suppply store and the beautitionist who looked and tested my hair said it would work just fine and now im left with bald spots and im only 15 will a little less than half my hair missing and white roots and bright orange red and spotted black hair that is melted up to around 2 inches from my scalp idk what to do"

Buy a home kit. They were formulated for people who are not hairstylists. Right now, I have no idea the texture & condition of your hair.

Google: A 38-year old mother left in a coma after using hair dye. SHE DYED HER HAIR MANY TIMES BEFORE, USING THE SAME BRAND. In 2000, a 38-year-old Indian-origin woman from Birmingham, Narinder Devi, died after an allergic reaction to hair dye.

Permanent black hair dye is linked to causing leukemia and lymphomas.

Natural Red Hair Color?

Lunatic Pl

I am trying to find out what this color is. I want natural looking red hair and this is the perfect color. Can anyone tell me if this is like 4R Revlon or something like that and what developer I should use with it. ( I have dark red/brown hair now) Thanks!

http://www.women-hairstyles.com/images/red-color-hairstyle.jpg

Answer
It looks like a level 6 red brown. Id use a 6RV and 6 neutral half and half of each with 20 vol developer. If you go to Sally's I'd use wella because the reds are not so dominating. Loreal is good too. if it is too red just reapply the neutral brown. If you want it a little more red I'd reapply just the 6RV, but only leave it in for 5-10 minutes. If the red is too bright for your skin tone I would apply a 6v with 10 vol developer for 15 minutes. Some times even though you like the color it doesn't match certain skin tones. The 6 V will cool down the red tone if it looks over bearing.

Temporary red hair dye for natural blonde?

Moody Musi

I have extremely light blonde hair, but for I want my hair to be red for my Halloween costume. Those cheap Halloween hair sprays specifically say on the directions to not use them on light blonde hair - so that product is out. I currently own a bottle of Black Heart Temporary Color in red, but it weighs down my hair and makes it impossible to style...or even comb. Does anyone know of any products that will make my hair red without any damage, but also make it so I can style it? I'd be willing to have my hair red for a week to a week and a half max, as long as it will come out COMPLETELY. Any help is very much appreciated!

Answer
I would be really leery of products on the market that claim to dye your hair red "temporarily", especially with you having light blonde hair. Many of these products are flukes and will leave your hair a light pink for quite a long time. I would look into hair "chalking". Its pretty simple..and it will take a little bit of time depending on how long your hair is but its perfect for a one night halloween outfit. Basically you are pressing chalk to your hair, and with your color the red will show up perfectly. I have included a video link below that will show you how to's.

What temporary red hair dye works best on dark hair?

Elaina

I have long brown hair (It isn't too dark, it isn't too light.) and its beginning to get boring, so I want to dye the ends red. What temp. dye would work best for this and last the longest? Would it damage y hair? I really don't want to bleach my hair, either... Thanks!(:
I want something that will last a few weeks or longer.(:

Answer
Don't use Kool Aid. It will strip your hair of it's natural oils.

Get some red chalk. (chalkboard or sidewalk) Rinse it in water, and color it on your hair. :) It might rub off, and feel a little oily, but it looks fine of you do a good job :)

Would I look good with red velvet hair colour?

Kennedy

I'm planning on dying my hair red velvet, since this is a serious colour I need opinions. Here's a photo of me http://twitter.com/KhlosDashDoll/status/335825313500131328/photo/1

Answer
yup go for it sharon osborne has flaming red hair with brown eyes it looks good on here so why not you however. red fades but its ok as u have a dark base hair. but if u was blonde it might turn pink as it fades so your good to go however if your skeptical then just highlight it with red velvet which is more dramatic and subtle to not shock the world but i prefer the red velvet highlights combed thru on a comb to make it looks awesome adn when it grows out it isnt much keep up at all .. to redye it monthly as roots grow out is a pain and looks wicked.

my face is just a tad bit lighter than in the pic but not too much. umm if it doesnt work my skin is like a light tan and i have brown eyes and hair. im mostly pointing towards red hair but opinions would be awesome! like on what color red and what not so yeah :)
Not too be mean but some people would complain the link doesnt show as a link so copy and paste my lovelies copy and paste :3 idk im sorry this is long but i really want an answer and yeah sorry..
oh and i was actually looking to dye it some type of unnatural red that would stand out cuz all my friends have normal hair and i like to be different :3

Answer
Dark mohogany red with a purplish tint to it, would look awesome. and bright reds wouldent fit you too well. not many people can pull off brighter reds, i cant!
garnier had red dyes that are made for brown hair, like yours, so there will be no bleaching involved.

Nutrisse Ultra Color R2 Medium Intense Auburn would come out a nice darker red with a purplish tint
if you want a little bit of a lighter red, use Nutrisse Ultra Color R3 Light Intense Auburn.

im about to use loreal color match, i have auburn (red/brownish) hair color, i got the 5C Ash Brown?

Jay S

will it just darken my hair? and be fine, or will it do anything crazy like give me orange hair or soemthing like that? just want to check before i end up using it?

Answer
here is something to think about....
I am a colorist for a very very long time and have always been opposed to"box" hair color
and the reason for that is because I spent a career fixing the mistakes they make...not for any other reason - I SAW THE DISASTER they create
If 4 people walk into the store and each one of them has a different color hair ,,,,like you have brown, she has red, the other one has black ...etc...
HOW IN THE WORLD can that one box work for everyone?
I wonder which person the hair manufacturing company chose to put the proper ingredients in there for?
what if they put the ingredients for a redhead in there?
if they did. . . . YOU are screwed......aren't you?
I will be more than happy to tell you which 2 things to buy, Just email me....I always said I would like to get rid of all the bad hair in the country.....even if it takes one person at a time.
I need the answer to 3 questions and then I can tell you exactly what to purchase at your local beauty supply.
