Rihanna Red permanent hair colour ?

Princess P

Iv tried to dye my hair bright red but it turned out dark brownish red but i really want rihanna red. im going to bleach my hair back blond then put in a bright red but i cant find a brand that's really red. all the ones iv seen are semi- permanent. any suggestions of brands ??

Answer
Henna works very well. It's organic and does not damage the hair. The natural color of henna is RED! Henna is permament and it's hard to cover it up. If you do not like the color do not go over with regular hair dye, you need to buy the henna and try again. I recommend that you get the actual Indian Henna not the henna that other hair companies mixed up, they usually don't work well. You can get Henna at any organic food store or any Indian market. Also henna helps thicken and strengthen the hair and add natural gloss and highlights. You don't need to bleach your hair with the henna it will show up. But you can bleach if you want for a more radiant color

Answer
Introduction
(CC photo by Nikki)Maybe you've always heard that blonds have more fun, and you want to see if it's true.1 Maybe you want to try being a redhead, but you have dark hair that needs to be lightened before you can go red. Maybe you just want to make a dramatic change in your look.
Whatever your reasons, you've decided to bleach your hair. If you do it right, bleaching can look terrific. But bleaching can be risky, and if you don't know what you're doing, you can seriously damage your hair or injure your skin. This guide will tell you how to bleach your hair safely and effectively.

Step 1: Before You Bleach

(Creative Commons photo by Laura)Before you bleach your hair, think it over carefully. This is not a decision to make lightly (no pun intended).
Remember that there is always the risk of damaging your hair or just looking bad.
Do some research to help you figure out what hair colors would look best on you.2
You can always experiment with a picture of yourself using a photo editing program to see how you would look with a different hair color.3
Consider whether your bleaching would be better handled by a salon.
Lightening your hair is risky, and it could well be that a pro would do a better job than you will at home.4
Bleaching will be more challenging if you have naturally dark hair.5
It will probably require several treatments, which could be damaging to your hair.6
You should really talk to a professional hair stylist before trying it.
Bleaching reddish-brown hair also has challenges.
It's likely your hair will turn orange, and you will need multiple treatments.7
Bleaching will inevitably do some damage to your hair.8
You can minimize this be washing with quality conditioners for a couple of weeks before you bleach.9
If your hair has had any treatments recently, like perming or relaxing, you should give your hair a few weeks to recover before bleaching.10
If your hair already has some coloring in it, you'll need to remove the coloring before you bleach.11
Removing existing coloring before you bleach puts additional stress on your hair, so proceed carefully.12
If you dyed your hair with a dye containing metallic salts, do not attempt to bleach it now. The bleach and metallic salts could have a bad reaction, causing hair breakage and other problems.13
Health Considerations
Hydrogen peroxide is potentially dangerous, and there are things you should know before using it.14
Improper use of bleach can cause hair loss, painful blisters and other problems.15
If you're pregnant, your body might be very sensitive to certain chemicals and you'll need to take special precautions.16
Talk it over with your doctor before you bleach.
Be sure to do a skin test before bleaching, don't get the chemicals in your eyes and avoid saltwater and chlorine for several days afterwards, to prevent a possibly dangerous reaction.17
Using bleach during your period shouldn't cause problems, although you might be more sensitive to chemical aromas.18
If you swallow hydrogen peroxide or get it in your eyes, it should be treated as an emergency situation.
Seek medical attention immediately if you've swallowed it, and if you get it in your eyes, flush them with water for 15 minutes and then see a doctor or call a poison control center.19

I'm a natural dull brunette, now I want to die my hair again, but don't know what colour?

Bec

I dyed my hair mahogany semi-permentantly a few months ago, and its left a slightly ginger/red tint in my hair.
I also have a fairly pale complexion, but i have spot prone and red skin, so yeah, i think thats all the information needed to decide :/
oh, and i have green ish blue eyes x
Sensible answers pleeease :/

Answer
red hair looks great with green eyes. You said you were mahogany a few months ago. I know red hair can make reddish skin look worse, but if you get a cooler red, or a darker brown red it went set off your face as much. I have green eyes and pale skin which easily flushes and will stay that way for hours, and I had red hair for quite a few months. Mine was professionally done with Paul Mitchell color, I used 6rr and 8rv. which is a level six red with no brown, and a level eight red and purple. it was cool enough that my face didn't get set off. But it did leave my hair with a red tint even after I colored on top of it.
If your tired of red though I would just put a semi permanent brown on top. It will cover up the red tint and keep it shiny and nice looking.

Is Florence Welch being considered for the role of Mara Jade Sywalker in Star Wars Episode VII?

Stardust

I just saw that singer Florence Welch is being considered for what is considered to be a "major" role in the new Star Wars trilogy. My thought is that they could be considering her in the role of red haired beauty and Jedi Knight Mara Jade, who is married to Luke Skywalker. Anyone else think this could be a possibility?

Answer
Based on reports online IT IS most likely. To me, there are two sides to this offering. Firstly, its cool how she can expand her career as an actress (which she alr is in process in a movie named Untitled Terrence Malick Project along w Christian Bale etc) plus she is offered one of the main role in this star wars movie which could boost her as a world-class actress. As an effect, she has a new proffession which I am not really sure if she could maintain tht career for a long period of time. The bad side is that I'm afraid about her relationship w the band members. Let say if she accepts it, shell get busier and maybe works on the new album would be stalled. Then when shes well recognized, she might wanna give alot of attention to her acting career and secondarize her band. Just like adam levine did. This could lead to a possible breakup (WHICH I HOPE WONT HAPPEN :O) anyways, its up to flo to accept the offer. She can think whats good and bad for her. As fans, we can just support in what she does. I hope that answers you pal! Good day.

WHITE PEOPLE: Extinct hair/eye colors?

Southern G

I heard that some people have violet eyes. Maybe it's very rare today, but probably it was pretty common before. Same thing with red hair, maybe it was common before, but they are both almost extinct now.

How do we know if there are other extinct hair/eye colors?

Answer
Red hair has never been common, but it's nowhere near extinction. I'm related to tons of redheads. As for violet eyes, it seems like they're really just a dark enough blue that they appear violet. That's also very uncommon, but there are still people with that deep shade. It would be very interesting to discover extinct colors, though.

What hair color is the least common naturally?

LP's Mommy

Ive been told its red.

Answer
i would think red too... idk...

heres what i found

The red-hair gene is recessive and only four percent of the world actually carries the gene. Due to its recessive nature it becomes diluted when carriers reproduce with those who have the dominant hair, therefore putting redheads on the endangered list. However, many scientists are skeptical of extinction, stating that four percent of 6.4 billion people is too large a figure to wipe out in the next ninety-five years. Dr. David Pearce of the University of Rochester of Medical Center also points out that while the red-hair gene âwill dilute and become rare, but there are a variety of other factors that can change hair color that are not really understood well right now."

Do i have to bleach my dyed black hair if i want to color it red?

LC

I dyed my hair black in june then I re dyed it again black in september but now I want to color it red, but do I have to bleach it to get it red. I want it something like this http://dulce-maria.firbec.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/07/rbd-dulce-maria.jpg
Thanks for the help! :)

Answer
permanent colour can not lift another permanent colour... youl need to bleach out the artificially dyed areas of your hair (and not the natural, untouched areas) to lighter than the desired shade before recolouring with the colour you want. the natural bits of your hair should match the red permanent dye you choose. its very difficult to only bleach the coloured bits of your hair so its much better to see a professional who can work with your hair in the best way to keep in good condition and give you the most even result. also remember bleach can be very damaging so if you insist on trying this yourself be careful not to over process the hair! if you bleach all over your hair, the natural bits will go very light and will be very bright when you recolour with the red and the coloured bits that had been bleached will be a different darker colour. natural hair bleaches a lot lighter a lot quicker than coloured hair, even if the colour is lighter than the natural base.

hope this makes sense and wasnt too jumbled! good luck :)

red hair dye... any good brands?

Vmp!r

does anyone know of an unnatural looking hair dye... or natural looking but out of the ordinary?? like not really common??? any brands that are really good.? my natural color is dirty blonde but i dyed it almost 5 months ago dark brown and its gotten lighter and faded...
a brand that will not fade or take longert to fade?
and when i already have dyded my hair how can i keep it its best?
....
how often do i wash it
thanx for any help
:D

Answer
Well, Herbal Essences #44 is a nice shade of red. If your looking for something unearthly, however, you might try Manic Panic. I don't know how well it works...I'm just aware that it is available.

As for washing, if you use a regular hair dye, such as Herbal Essences, you can wash it as often as you would wash your hair if it were not dyed.

Washing hair dyed with Manic Panic, however, should be done in accordance with the directions it is packaged with.

I want red hair -- what dye to use?

i need to dye my hair red.. the sort of red of a dr pepper can.
anyone know a brand or color name that is that color?
(my hair is already bleached.)
gosh you're clever, sheila.

anyhoo, i actually am looking to dye my hair for a specific reason, because i can't get ahold of a wig the color instead.

i am asking because it is not an unusual color, the sort of red of a dr pepper can/label, and i would be surprised if there was NO ONE who had any suggestions as to the specific brand of dye and the name of the color.

Answer
Herbal Essences in Paint the Town Red (shade #44 I think)
I think it would give a similar look, it's kid of bright but still natural looking too.

EDIT: people above are stupid.

Answer
All uzumaki have red hair but not yellow.Naruto has yellow hair because he got them from his father Minato who is a Namikaze, not an Uzumaki. And yes, both Karin and Nagato are uzumaki. It was also mentioned in the manga in chapter 579, page 12, that all uzumaki have red hair and that Nagato and Karin are both Uzumaki:

Hair Color?

Fiona M

I have naturally dark brown hair but my skin is very light. I've colored it in the past and done highlights. I don't want to use permanent color anymore because I want to keep my hair healthy for as long as possible. Does the 28 day temporary color damage your hair? When it fades out does it leave your natural color? Is it possible to make my hair slightly lighter with a temporary color?

Answer
I'm not sure if the temporary color works well, but I do recommend using a color enhancing shampoo. I am just like you, where my hair is dark brown and I have a light skin color. Sometimes I buy the John Freida shampoo for blonde hair, and it brings out the golden tones. VERY PRETTY! You should also consider giving the shampoo for red hair a try because dark brown hair has a lot of red tones in it, whether you can see them or not. Using this shampoo would really enhance them.

dying red hair darker?

Q. I currently am a natural "ginger"- natural strawberry blonde hair, pale, freckled skin, and brown eyes. However, I want to dye my hair a darker, richer red. Any tips or suggestions? I plan on doing it myself so any color tips would be great!
I'm really wanting to go darker... especially with colder weather coming up, and I think darker makes health shine and look a lot healthier than lighter hair too. My concern is I have dark brown eyes but pale skin and everything I've found online classifies one or the other, not generally the dark eyes AND pale skin with k=inkish undertones.

Answer
I don't think I would dye it all over.

Dark red hair (any red, really!) looks fake on someone who wasn't born with it.

I think you could get a richer look by lowlighting. It's the same technique as highlighting but rather than lightening selected strands, you'd dye them a deeper color. For you, maybe a medium auburn? Don't go with anything too "cherry" looking or too bright. Your natural color is warm, and you'd want to stay within warm tones.

If you've never done highlights/lowlights yourself, it's easy if your hair is medium-length or shorter. You can buy frosting/tipping caps at beauty-supply stores (such as Sally) and you just pull small sections of hair through the pre-marked holes on the cap with the hook that comes with the cap.

If your hair is long, though ... you'd be way further ahead to have it professionally done. Pulling long hair through a cap is PAINFUL!

are redheads really doomed to extinction?

dylan t.

Answer
The gene is incomplete recessive and redheads are a small minority of the human population so yes, if they breed freely with people with different hair colors eventually they'll disappear. Some people will still carry the gene but they'll have auburn hair or strawberry blonde hair, not red hair.

What color was Tyrannasaurus Rex? Why did they go extinct?

Professor

Answer
>>>>>What color was Tyrannasaurus Rex?

We have no absolutely no way of knowing. It almost certainly varied with the age of the animal.

The young animals almost certainly had feathers, and given their small size it seems reasonably that both the feathers and the skin would have been dark brown or black to enable them to heat from sunlight. The addittion of spots or stripes would add in hiding. The young of most large birds and mammals today are stipe dor spotted so it seems reasonable to assume the same for tyrranosaur chicks.

The adults seem to have lacked feathers, at least for the most part. In that respect they seem to be like elephants rhinos, whales and other large mammals where the young retain at leat sparse hair that is almost totally absent from the adult.

What colour the adults were we simply canât know. Animals of that size generally have little use for camouflage colouration so they can be whatever colour they like. The big question is how much of a role vision played in courtship. If tyrannosaurs were like modern birds we would expect the males at least to have extremely brightly coloured heads at the very least.

So an olive grey Tyrrannosaur with a bright blue head and big red circles under the eyes is no less likely than any other colour scheme.

Cellar door said âThey were just large versions of the lizards we have today.â

They most certainly were NOT large versions of the lizards we have today. They are only very distantly related to modern lizards. The closest living relatives are, not surprisingly, birds.

We arenât entirely certain what the lifestyle of a T. rex was, they seem to have been a combination of predator and scavenger. In terms of lifestyle the closest living comparison would probably be a lion or hyaena.

They were in no way lizard-like.

>>>>They went extinct because of a meteor

That is one theory, but one that is rapidly losing credibility. There were probably multiple factors leading to the mass extinction that took T. rex along with numerous other species. A comet or meteor impact just doesnât explain all the observations

caring for red coloured hair ?

bec

so, my hairs naturally brown, and i coloured it red... like a bright red... is there any tips or advice you could give me so the colour lasts longer.. also any special products that you know of thats good for red hair ?? thanksss :) xx

Answer
I used to have red hair up until a few weeks ago. All i can say is to buy the hair dye you used so whenever your roots grow out you can cover them up. Also, I'd use a shampoo made specifically for redheads, like John Frieda Radiant Red Color Captivating Daily Shampoo. If you can do that, and condition your hair daily, it will look gorgeous and be healthy.

I've wanted to dye my hair red for a while. I like this color red:
http://www.haircolorsideas.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/red-hair-dark.jpg

Anybody know what hair dye/product I could be to get this color? Or what is the name of this color red?

Answer
Tell me what you're starting with and I can help. It's true that if you get your hair done at a salon first that color, then just put semi permanent over the red base (like manic panic) it will last a buttload longer and red can fade as little as one or two weeks without good care. But from home, if you know anything about Sally's beauty supply you can get 2 tubes for shoulder length hair 3 for more of loreal hicolor highlightes..and if you're starting with medium brown hair or darker (make sure not black though, that wont really lift unless you just want red highlites) use 40 oreor developer for it. If your hair's lighter you may want to use 30 developer. Oh and take really good care of your hair; get color treat shampoo and conditioner, deep conditioner and if you really want the color to last grab a jar or two of manic panic and put it in your conditioner and that really helps!

Salon Dying Hair My Hair Red?

Amanda E

When you get your hair dyed in a salon how long does it stay in your hair?
Does it stay in? or or does it eventually wash out?
Does chlorine affect the color?
(I am dying it a really red color)
Like this: http://www.poptower.com/pic-14818/ariana-grande.jpg

Answer
I stays in your hair for about 3-5 months of you dye it red. It eventually washes out. If you want it to stay in your hair, then you have to keep on dying it red. Chlorine would not effect your color. But, if you get any other pool cleaning product in it, then it would probably turn pink. If you want it to stay in really long without re- dying it, you might have to dye it really dark red. The color in the picture is not dark enough. good luck :-)

I'm 16 with red hair, brown eyes, and pale white skin..
I'm not sure what exactly will look good..
Help?

Answer
-Do your eyes with green shadow... Not much, softly on.
-Use a thin layer of darker base to give some color to your skin. I would say a light to medium (yes: Not Light and Not Medium), suntan color.
-If you use lip stick, use it softly, not too much, and a color that would match with your base.
-Use black clothes near or around your hair. Never use red or related colors close to your hair. Black will give even more life to your beautiful read hair. Always make your red hair make a statement... You're lucky, not many have that beautiful natural color, so be proud of it, don't over do it, and... show it off.
-Don't wear all black clothes. "Just Near or Around the hair". You're very young and should wear nice colors for below of what you're wearing on top... Blues are going to be awesome on you!

-(I was typing while my girl was dictating me and feeding our little baby girl... Good luck from the three of us!)-

Is there a way to darken red hair without products ?

emmalouise

HI. i have naturally red hair and i would like to know if there is a way to naturally darken my hair without chemicals or products. ? cause i'm sick of having red hair.

thank you.

Answer
Chica, are you sure you want to change your hair color? Red is such a beautiful color!

If you want to darken it without products, I suggest you use vinegar. For your hair color, mix in about three tablespoons of red wine vinegar with your shampoo. Shampoo, then rinse. Sit outside in the sun for a few, your hair color should change. Do not substitute for regular white vinegar, as this will bleach your hair.

Good luck!

hair lowlights?

Yahoo

i have light brown hair naturally. about 1 year and 1/2 ago i got blonde highlights that i liked at the time but now i'd much rather have dark brown hair. i'm going to get lowlights, put on heavy. my eyes are dark brown, and i have tan skin, so im hoping it wont look too dark, you know? its like, the color my hair is when it's wet is the color i want it to be when it's dry. do you think the hairdresser will be able to understand what i'm asking for? id appreciate any advice.
ps. i also heard that to make it look more natural, brunettes should darken their hair with red lowlights. but i dont want my hair to be red. what should i do.

Answer
If you don't want red, go for 'warm' or 'golden' dark brown. Ashy browns tend to make your hair look dyed, and you look older. They go green under fluorescent lights, and that's why stylists try to steer people toward reds.

If you're feeling uncertain, use something like Clairol's Nice N' Easy, which washes out in a few weeks, and experiment with shades.

I'd recommend anything from dark gold-brown to warm purple for lowlights. Live a little!

Just don't use black. It'll be a disaster. Trust me. I didn't see my natural hair colour from the age of 13 until I was nearly 40!

hair color??

How To Get Rid Of Natural Red/Auburn Hair Colour?

Gary

I have tried dying my hair brown many times, and it even has turned out black in the beginning. I have perfected my dye to an extent and I am able to keep it a constant darker colour, enough that my friends don't even realize I dye it. However the red will NOT go away. I know I know it is my natural colour and I cannot change that, and I should even "embrace" my beauty. But fuck that! In this day and age red hair is not a good thing. Girls look great with it and guys are looked at as losers, ugly, GINGERS. I know there is no way to permanently change it but what is the best way to make it as least bit noticeable as a red colour? I have read on the internet to use ash brown... ya that didn't work. Still red. I am even considering going blonde first and then brown but that is very risky because I want to keep it hidden that I dye it at all. Everyone thinks it has just naturally gone darker or they don't think about it at all. Also that could risk it becoming a completely different colour and I do not want that either. Please help me with a step by step procedure or anything. Thanks, Gary.

Answer
The problem with bleaching your hair first, is that when you dye over it with brown, it may turn to a greenish tinge. So I will give you steps on what I would do.

1. I actually would dye my hair as dark as possible with a permanent colour. Make sure it says permanent on the box, or it will not cover the red. Make sure you really pack on the colour and leave it on for at least 45 mins. Naturally red hair usually needs a long development time.

2. If you do not want to have it very dark, bleach your hair first. Then get a refresher red colour (I know this sounds strange as you want to reduce red, but I have a point I promise) apply the red refresher over the bleached hair. Rinse. Then apply a natural ash brown. You have to apply red refresher so that it does not turn a nasty greenish colour. If you colour over with an ash brown, you won't be able to see the red colour underneath, and you won't get a nasty green colour.

3. If you want to look natural, and you don't want to look like you dye your hair, always go with ash colours. Good Luck!

is there a natural way to get hair back to original color?

thequestio

ihad black hair and i dyed it a medium brown/red and now the roots are coming in but i don't want to dye my hair again b/c i didn't like how the dye made my hair dry. is there a natural way to make the color go back normal?

Answer
Cut your hair. Your natural color returns from the roots, so those dyed ends will never change back on their own. The longer your hair is, the longer it will take for your new hair to catch up with the older, dyed hair. Trimming off at least a couple inches will get rid of split ends, over-processed hair, and make the transition to your former color faster. For hair that's been severely damaged, or for drastic changes like blonde to black, you might consider a much shorter cut to get rid of as much of the dyed hair as possible.
Step
2
Highlight your hair during the transition period. Use double color highlights to match the old and new colors. A natural brunette growing out blonde hair should add blonde highlights to break up their dark roots. Add a second highlight in the natural brown color to break up the blonde ends and mesh with the darker roots. As the hair grows out, add less and less blonde highlights until the natural color prevails.
Step
3
Dye your hair back to the original color. This is the fastest and most seamless way to return your hair back to its natural color. Let your hair grow out at least an inch, so your natural color can be matched to the corresponding dye. Cover the whole head. As the hair grows out, it will match the dyed ends.
Step
4
Work gradually from dark to light. If you dyed your hair a very deep color and now want to get back to light brown or blonde, it's best to work in stages. Trying to strip away all the old dye at once can often lead to uneven or unexpected results. Use highlighting or solid dye to go from black to dark brown. Then, lighten to medium brown, moving to lighter shades until you reach your original color.
Step
5
Consider semi-permanent dyes. Semi-permanent dyes are good for transitioning, as they gradually fade out with washing. This fade-out process lessens the time you have to grow out the artificial coloring.
Step
6
Visit a professional, especially for drastic changes. A professional colorist has years of experience and high level products at her disposal. It's easier for her to look at your hair from above to identify your natural color, and then mix a perfectly matching transitional dye to achieve your goals. She'll also know how to avoid over-dyeing or over-stripping your hair, as well as how to work with your specific hair type.

Would I suit red hair? :D (photos)?

I'm almost 15 now and I'm wanting to try changing my look slightly.
I'm allowed to dye my hair and I was thinking of doing it bright red, but I know that it's quite drastic.
This would be the colour I'm aiming for:

So please give me your opinion and guide me to what you think I might suit better :D

Answer
I think it'll look cute on you and it'll definitely stand out! But since you haven't done anything dramatic yet to your hair I think you should take small steps. Maybe you can try dying your hair an auburn red so you get to keep your brown hair color while adding red to it at the same time. I think that will look really nice, and after that if you like the red in your hair you can go for something more dramatic like the bright red in the picture.

Math Hair Color?

Q. A man and a woman were the only two people walking along a beach. "I'm a man", said the one with black hair. "I'm a woman", said the one with red hair. At least on of them was lying. What was the color of the woman's hair?

You can see the picture here although thisis a bonus question in a math quiz and I really don't know the connection:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/daryljayeborda2/2077257406/

Answer
Woman has black hair.
There are three possibilities to check:
1) Only the man is lying
2) Only the woman is lying
3) Both the man & woman is lying

Number 1) cannot be correct.
Because => Man would have to have red hair
=> Woman can't have red hair
=> Only the man can't be lying

Number 2) cannot be correct
Because => Woman would have to have black hair
=> Man can't have black hair
=> Only the woman can't be lying

Number 3) is only the correct choice
And so => Both are lying
And then => Man has red hair
And => Woman has black hair

That was fun!!... now I'm late for work!!!

i have been using a dark red hair color loreal ok?

C R

now i want to lighten the red. is there any way to do so. when i put a lighter red on it didnt make any difference. i am using permanet hiar color. ifyou have had that experience i would like your advice. thank you. incidently my hair is a brown and some gray.

Answer
I recently did the same thing. For about a year now I have been using a dark auburn for my hair and when it went more brown than red I decided it was time for a change. I used a clairol natural instincts color and it worked fairly well. It is designed to cover darker hair and lighten it. I don't remember the number I used but after a few days it turned the desired color. One warning though, do not apply to your roots first if they are fairly grown out and a different color than the rest of your hair. My roots turned PINK for about 10 days and are still brighter than the rest of my hair.

Loreal high colour in red? ?

Denya

I want to dye my hair using Loreals high colour highlights in red.. Ive done some research and want to try and get my hair like Ariana Grande, will this dye work if i use 30 developer on my already dyed hair (black!)

Answer
Since you'd already penetrated the hair shafts with black dye, it'll be much harder to convert colours. You'll need to bleach it first (I'm not sure about the 30 developer, because i've never tried it personally), and then deep condition for a while to make sure it doesn't get damaged in the dyeing process. This may take anywhere from 5 days up to a month, depending on your hair type. Unless you want to change colours right away, then I suggest you go into a salon with your colour to get it done professionally, where they better know how to handle this. Afterwards, the dye should work. It's probably not going to be as bright as Ariana Grande's, though, because commercial dyes like L'Oreal's cater to women who want more natural looking colours. You may want to research online for results, just in case a salon colour may work better for you.

What are some tips on how to dye dark hair red semi permanently?

Makena

I really want to dye my hair red semi permanently. But I have dark brown hair. Will the color show up? What are some good, non damaging hair dyes? Will dye damage my hair permanently, or when it grows back out, will it be the same? Thank you for answering my questions.

Answer
Since your hair is already dark, I would suggested staying clear of any permanent dyes since you want it to wash out and use a semi-perm dye on top of your dark hair! It will show well!!! Go to your local Sally Beauty or any beauty supply store and pick up my favorite brand... Beyond the Zone in candy apple red, and I know it looks bright, but it will not be bad at all on top of your already brown hair! I recommend to leave for at least an hour an a half! It has no peroxides, so it won't harm your hair at all! Just be careful with the dye because it stains your skin too easily! I looked like a hot pink Smerf the first time I tried it!!! If you want, even try the Crimson Red color, but I really recommend this dye!

I need a good pink-red hair dye and other tips.?

Tiffany

Hello, world!
I'm in need of hair dying tips. I dye my hair on my own frequently, and do my best to keep it healthy. But i'm trying to grow it out, lighten it to blonde, and then dye it a very pinkish-red. My problem is that my hair is currently slightly longer than shoulder length, and multiple colors. (Red, black, blue, purple, pink.) I'm tired of having to spend countless hours dying sections of my hair and just want a cute solid color, which is why I decided on one of my favorites: Pinky-red. I can't find a good brand or actual color of this though. /:
Any suggestions on lightening my hair, (with lack of bleach, if possible.) making it grow faster, or hair dye? Thanks!

Answer
If you want just a small section of your hair to be a pink or red, you could just get a single hair extension, I just do that to avoid bleaching or dying my hair to make it any worse.

anyway, product wise, you could get h2-ion, it repairs any damage you have done to you hair, seals your split ends and helps it grow healthier and faster, and alot of other things, look it up, and see if it could help

Its about $80 for a can,

with dying your hair blonde, its harder the darker your natural color is, if your hair is darker then medium brown, or even light brown it might just turn out a horrible orange or yellow, so if you have dark brown or black you'll probably have to bleach it to get a good result :/

also dont bother trying any of those legends like putting lemon juice in your hair to make it blonde, they dont work.

hope anything i said helps.

Probability of my baby having red hair?

Keyla

My husband has red hair but there's some blonde and I have brown hair.

Answer
It isnt impossible, a friend of mine has red hair and her husband has brown hair, one of their children has blonde hair and the other has red. Untill you have your baby you wont know and sometimes a baby will be born with brown/blonde hair but it could get redder as they get a bit older. However I think it would be more likely that your child will have brown hair as it is the most dominant colour, its like eye colours, if one parent has green or blue eyes and the other has brown then their child will more likely have brown eyes as its more dominant but its not impossible for the child to have blue or green eyes. If there has been red hair somewhere in your family history then it will probably increase the chances of your baby having red hair, but it cant be said what colour your baby's hair will be untill they are born.

Tracing the origins of red hair.......?

where did red hair first appear in history.

scotland and ireland have the highest percentage of red hair in their populations. around 14%

what ethnicity contributed MCR1 to the british isles?

recent genetic studies tie the british peoples genes to the basques of spain. and they also show that celtic DNA is almost identical to basque.

so is it safe to assert that the basques contributed the red hair gene MCR1 to britain.
did they have red hair?
do they have red hair now?

some claim it was the vikings that brought MCR1 but the Pict's predate the vikings and they were renowned as redheads.

the redhead gene is the result of a mutation when two cultures intermixed this mutation only occurred once. implying all redheads have a common ancestor. if britain has the highest percentage of redheads then you would think it was in britain the first redheads occurred. but redheads were found in earlier indo european tribes such as
the sea people, Scythian, cimmerans, tribe of dan,
does this suggest a migration of indo european redheads to britain?

at what point and what culture do you think introduced MCR1?
is it an Indo european trait or a non indo european trait?
also if red hair came from the vikings and they came from north europe then why do they have such a low redhair percentage to the british ilses

Answer
I don't think there's really anyway to pinpoint the moment when red hair first appeared. I've never heard of the gene you mentioned.

I would say it's not safe to assert anything. Red hair can be common in multiplie places throughout history.

I did not know Picts were renowned as redheads, that's news to me.

what colours can redheads wear?

red_anger

I ahve brown hair and am planning to dye it a deep red brown, I also have pale skin and light green eyes. If i dye my hair what colours would i be able to wear well. Would I be able to red clothing? black? others?

Answer
you could wear lots of different colours.
First of all you could wear neutral colours like....navy, black, beige, white, grey, neutral blues, neutral reds, neutral purples and neutral greens. so colours in their most basic form. ..with blue undertones.
The other option you have is to wear warm "fall" colours...so colours with golden undertones...like caramel, olive green, colours that are warm looking but not super bright.
Also jewell tones are great.

Would this hair color look good on someone with my colored skin?

Q. my skin is an olive shade with yellow undertones. I'm not really sure if my skin tone is cool or warm, but i'm pretty sure that it's warm. it's not totally dark (like tan) but it's not fair either. would this hair color look good on someone like me?

http://media.photobucket.com/image/ariana%20grande/lostfreak240/ariana-grande-questions.jpg?o=85

if so, is there any way i could convince my mom to let me get it? its kinda really red, haha and idk if she'd like that

Answer
no, the warm red in the hair will highlight the yellow in your skin.

hair color for asians, help?

well im fair skinned, but its summer and im definitely going to get tanner. im kind of bored with my hair and i need opinions of what hair color i should choose?
i have black with some brown hair, its natural. should i leave it as it is? or should i change it?

maybe an auburn color? i think something with a tint of red would look pretty awesome! opinions please, and put pics in to show exactly how it looks like, thank you ^^

Answer
I really think a dark auburn would be beautiful.

Here: what do you think: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3251/2296289900_2728e8cccf_m.jpg

There are lots of variations you could do. And just because you're Asian and have a certain skin tone doesn't mean you can't have fun with it! You can have whatever hair color you want. It's all about how you carry yourself! Have fun with it.

To get dark red natural looking hair color, will box dye be okay?

Mary

I'm Asian and currently have dark brown hair though it's more on the darker side. I colored it 2 months ago with a "cool mahogany brown" by garnier and well it didn't really lighten my hair and i think it shaded quite quickly.

Just wondering if red hair dye will be enough to lighten it, or will it be too dark and it only shows in the sun?

I really want to avoid bleach...

Any ideas on what box color?

Answer
No, box red won't show up on black hair. Box dyes are only good for going two or three shades lighter or darker than your natural hair color. Anything more than that and you will need to lighten the hair before dyeing. You will need to remove the black color from your hair with a pre-lightener and THEN use a red dye. Hair salons can give you vibrant reds that last longer plus the methods they use to remove color is far gentler on the hair than drug store home bleach kits.

Why did short hair used to be so popular?

Brittany

I've noticed that pre-1920s, all women seemed to have longer hair from those old photographs and then from the 1920-late 60s, all women had really short hair or bob and then long hair was popular until the mid 70s and most women had really short hair again and same with the 80s, women had really short hair and then by the late 80s it changed and by the 90s, every girl had long hair just like today and short hair never came back. In older yearbooks that I've seen, the majority of girls had short hair in those times but now every girl has long hair and if you don't have long hair then everyone will call you a lesbian. What changed and why does society look down on women with short hair now?

Answer
If you've watched Downton Abby on PBS, a miniseries, they HAVE LONG HAIR. They put their hair up using bobby pins, and if you've watched that show, they go to bed in ponytails or braids NEATLY, even if the casts have short hair, they use hair extensions to make them look like THEY'RE LONG.

Many of the photos when my mom was a teenager, have shoulder length wavy hair, they are bobby pin set or permed in those days, just as she started perming my hair in the middle 50's.

Hairstyles changes, the 70's the beginning of the HIPPIES FREEDOM REBEL and a new breed of generation . . . started to grow their hair WILD and jeans on girls. Even though many of us wore panty hose, skirts & dresses, it was more in the 80's where people let their hair grow WILDER. I'll take that back . . it was the BEATLES from UK, who shocked the world with their LONG HAIR styles!

Short hair is coming back, because their hair had been damaged: Rihanna, Andrea Grande, Jennifer Aniston, January Jones all examples what happened to their hair.

Google: January Jones: "My Hair Is Falling Out In Clumps" 1-28-13 To quote Joni Mitchell, "you don't know what you got till your thick hair is gone."

"23 years old Rihanna is well known for changing her hairstyle and hair colour on a regular basis and it looks as though all those treatments have finally begun to take their toll on her mane and perhaps her common sense." US Showbiz 2-18-12 Rihanna has reportedly paid $23,500 for an emergency haircut after hers was ruined in a sauna, to fly out hair stylist from L.A. to London..The Province 3-1-12. She wore a long haired blonde wig during the Grammy 2-10-13.

Ariana Grande Opens up: "More Fake Hair than every drag queen on earth." The 20-year-old explained that she essentially destroyed her natural hair, when she had to bleach and dye it red "every other week" on the Nickelodeon show "Sam & Cat." She currently wear wigs now!

Google: Jennifer Aniston's Hair Disaster Nov. 6-13.
The reason Jen went for the ol' snip-a-roo wasn't to be on trend. It's because her hair is fried and falling out after getting a Brazilian Blowout. You know those amazing salon hair treatments that can make the thickest, frizziest hair Pantene commercial-esque? She didn't come to me for advice, I could have said "NO don't!"
It's been all over the news, but why wasn't her hairstylist informed her, they're partners in the new hair product, on which she is a spokesperson! Now embarrassing! Now, she's wearing hair extensions!

Short hair had become more popular in the 90's or later, also because women went back to work, living single with kids to support, they have less & less time for pampering and it's easier to take care of them, plus kids, house work, work outside the home, etc. When they want a makeover, short hair is the way to go! It takes 20 years of bad hair days, for women to figure out what to do with their hair, and it takes 20 years of trying to fix it, using various hair products that can do more harm than good. It is part of a billion dollar business.

If you look @ the wives of King Henry's 6 wives THEY ALL HAVE HAIR DOWN TO THEIR FEET and they were all black hair.

How many inches does your hair grow in a year?

Q. my hair is way past my shoulders and im jw how long it will be in a year?

Answer
Hair is actually dead material when it leaves it's root - otherwise it would hurt very much when your hairdresser works with his scissor. Most people know that, but do you know about these facts:

A blonde head of hair has usually much more strands than red or dark haired heads.
Hair consists mainly of keratin, which is also responsible for the elasticity of fingernails.
A single hair has a thickness of 0.02 - 0.04mm, so that 20 - 50 hair strands next to each other make one millimeter.
Hair is strong as a wire of iron. It rips after applying a force equivalent to 60kg, only after it stretched itself for about 70%.
Even on a good hair day, everyone loses at least 40 to 100 strands.
The average scalp has 100,000 strands, or just fewer than 1000 per square inch.
We are born with all our hair follicles. Some are programmed to grow pigmented hair (as on our scalp) up to 3 feet in length.
In America in '96, 38 million men and 19 million women experience common hair loss determined by heredity.
The trait for baldness can be passed down through paternal or maternal genes.
Hormone imbalance and crash dieting can trigger temporary hair loss.
Hair biology

The root of a hair strand sticks in a bag in the skin. The strand is pushed out of this bag about 0.35mm per day, making an average growth rate of 1cm, or half of an inch, per month. The growth rate is however very much related to the individual person, his age, his diet etc.
Healthy hair has an average lifetime of 2-6 years. After a rest period of three months the single hair falls out, and a new strand starts to grow out of the bag. The lifetime depends on circumstances and person, too.
The lifetime of hair is responsible for the maximum of hair length you can have. Waist length hair takes about 6 years to grow out from a short hair cut, periodic trims included. If your hair has a life cycle of 2 years, you will never achieve a nice waist length mane.

will my baby have red hair?

Brooklyn

My boyfriend mom has red hair.. and so do some of his aunts.. my boyfriend has some redish orangish collored hair in his mustache. . What are the chances my baby will have red hair... me.. my mom.. and dad have brownish blond hair though...

Answer
Red hair is recessive. This means that you have to get a red-hair gene from BOTH your mom and dad without getting any dominant hair color genes to cover it up in order to have red hair yourself.

In basic biology lessons, it's usually represented this way:
Capital B would represent brown hair.
Lowercase r would represent red hair.

If someone has these genes, one from mom and one from dad...
Br
...then the big brown gene overrides the red hair gene and the person has brown hair. The only way for the red hair to shine through is if there are no capital letters and instead there is another red-hair gene with it.

rr

Me personally: Red hair is in both my mom's and my dad's families, just a handful of people. So I managed to get one copy from each of them. It skipped two generations on both sides, so I was really lucky that all my grandparents were carriers and then both my parents were carriers, even though none of them actually had red hair themselves. Thus I do have red hair myself since I got two copies of red hair genes.

My son: Well, he is a red-hair CARRIER, but he doesn't have red hair. My husband has dark hair but he has freckles and a few red hairs in his beard. The freckles and beard hairs are a sign he is a possible carrier of the gene, but he himself has dark hair since dark hair genes are dominant over red, always. He passed on dark-hair genes to our son. I only have recessive red-hair genes, so that's all I can pass on to our children. My husband's dominant dark hair genes give our son dark hair, but my son could someday give me red-haired grandchildren since he is a carrier of the recessive gene.

The odds:
--If you KNOW that both people are red-hair gene carriers (because one of their parents has red hair) but neither one of them actually has red hair themself, the odds are basically 25% of having a red-haired child.
--If one person actually has red hair, and the other person is a carrier, the odds are 50%.
--If one person has red hair and the other is NOT a carrier, the odds are 0%-- but the child will carry the gene without actually having red hair.
--If two non-carriers have a child, obviously there is no chance of red hair at all, and furthermore their child can never have a redhaired child either.
--And if two redheads have a child, the odds are 100% that the baby has red hair. In fact, it can't be any other color for them.

Your case:
Your boyfriend is definitely a red-hair carrier. You know this simply because his mother has red hair. It's the only hair color gene she can pass on to him. So you know that he is a carrier. So the question is about you. If you have freckling skin, there is a chance you might carry the gene. But if you can't find anyone in your family that has red hair, I would doubt whether you do. If you don't carry the red hair gene yourself, then it will be completely impossible for you to ever give birth to a red-haired child even if the father were a blazing carrot-top. And since it kind of sounds like you might not have the gene, don't get your hopes up. ...Unless you're actually hoping to not have a redhead, in which case, relax because you're probably safe. ;)

P.S. It's actually slightly more complicated than that, because we have two hair-color genes that work together, not one. And there are rules about how recessive genes like recessive blonde and recessive red interact. This is where auburn hair and strawberry-blonde hair comes in. But if you understand the basics above, that will demonstrate your odds correctly.

Is the gene/allele for red hair Recessive or Dominant?

Ali

Answer
red hair color is incomplete dominance. It is neither dominant nor recessive.
I hope that helps.

What would happen if I bleached my hair again?

I found almost the exact color im looking for, 46 cyber purple xxl live by Schwarzkopf, http://www.livecolor.com/products/colourintense/cyber-purple-46/ but it can only be ordered from the UK and paying for shipping is a bitch. I want it the color of ariana grande's hair but with more of a purple tint! Please help!
Ive also looked at sallys, walmart, cvs, walgreens and cant find the right shade!

Answer
Sally Beauty Supply usually has a wide variety of dyes for affordable prices. I've dyed my hair fire-engine red, burnt orange red, blonde, burgandy, and reddish purple and have used various dyes found at Sally's for all of them. Beyond the wild colors, they have the more standard looking dyes from which you can actually find that red velvet purple you're looking for! You can ask one of the girls/guys working there what developers they recommend mixing with what dyes - theyre always very knowledgeable and helpful!

Honestly, Target or Walmart might even have the color you're looking for, but I recommend Sally Beauty Supply.

Good luck, it sounds like a beautiful color!!

I have red hair but I CAN tan. How?

tony c

Everything I've researched says its genetically not possible, the MC1r gene gives you red hair AND fair skin. Yet, I never burn and can tan and without a doubt have red hair. I've always been curious, if anyone has any ideas, I'd love to hear it. Thanks in advance.

-I've got hazel-green eyes.
-haha, i dont go tanning, i just wondered why i could tan when i'm outside. thanks a ton for the info, incredibly helpful stuff.

Answer
Actually, the mutation of the MC1R protein doesn't cause red hair. Red hair is caused by a gene on chromosome 16. One of the effects of this gene (besides giving red hair) is to cause a change to the MC1R protein.

This protein is found in the skin and eyes instead of high concentrations of melanin and is associated with fair skin and sensitivity to ultraviolet light. It can also cause freckles.

However, the mutation of the MC1R protein due to the gene on Chromosome 16 only occurs in about 80% of the redheads. There is no (or a different) mutation of this protein in the other 20%.

So if you are in that 20%, you could easily tan as the protein hasn't replaced the melanin in your skin. It might seem like you are a different kind of redhead, but really, you are just a minority in the redhead world. But you and those like you are still 20% of the redhead population.

Unfortunately, I'm a redhead WITH the mutated MC1R protein so I get sunburned when I open the blinds in the morning. However, my daughter, also with red hair, can sit in the sun all day long without burning...and in fact, tans.

Of course we don't let her because tanning is very bad for your health - you can develop skin cancer, no matter what your hair color, later in life. [as a parent just had to throw that in - it's in the job description]

If the father has blond hair and blue eyes, but the mother has red hair and gray eyes?

If the father has blond hair and blue eyes, but the mother has red hair and gray eyes?
What color hair and eyes will the kids have?

Answer
First a little science
Red hair is caused by a mutation on chromosome 16 which is thought to regulate about 3% of the DNA in the human body including pigment production.
This mutation alters the type of pigment that is produced.

In our bodies we have something called a melanin-activating peptide receptor (MC1R) which takes queues from the body chemicals and tells the cells in your hair, eyes and skin to produce the appropriate pigment.

If you get someone who has this mutated chromosome then the MC1R is sent a different signal to normal and essentially it is turned off so it isn't telling the hair, skin and eyes to produce a dark pigment like it normally would (brown or black eumelanin which causes dark hair, eyes and skin).

------------------

Now why does this cause red hair?
Red hair is the result of brown hair acting under the influence of this mutated chromosome. It is essentially brown hair (which normally contains a mix of brown eumelanin, red phaeomelanin and a little yellow phaeomelanin) but the dark brown eumelanin has been turned off so it isn't being produced properly, auburn hair is the result of a partially active receptor and ginger hair is the result of a completely inactive receptor.
The person with red hair really carries the gene for brown hair but also carries the mutated chromosome.

This mutated chromosome is recessive and requires to copies to be seen as a phenotype acting on the hair, if there is only one copy of the chromosome then it is a genotype and has no effect on the hair color.

--------------------

Now back to your original question.
Because this mutation is rare and very recessive, the chances are that the child would inherit blonde or brown hair rather than red (unless red hair is known on both the mother and father's side in which case it's much more likely for the child to have red hair)
However they will carry the unseen and inactive mutation for red hair which could surface in later generations if matched with another carrier of the the same mutated chromosome.

A similar effect is happening with the eyes which are also influenced by this same mutated chromosome, grey eyes are recessive over blue and it's far more likely that the child would inherit blue.

why are there different types of hair color?

David

Answer
At some point during evolution, there was a mutation in the gene coding for hair color. This formed a new allele for hair color. (Allele = variation of a gene; so, for the hair color gene, the alleles are red, brown, blond, etc.) This mutation got passed along to offspring and eventually became established in a population as a significant portion of hair colors.

All variation comes down to mutations. However, you should realize that not all mutations lead to variation. That is, some mutations don't affect the phenotype (eg red hair, brunette, etc) at all. Other mutations destroy the protein/protein's function that was coded for by that gene.

If red hair is recessive then why do I know someone who is black who gave birth to a red haired baby?

her bf has red hair. but is it posible that a black person can have the red haired gene?

Answer
Actually, there are pockets of native African populations which exhibit the gene for red hair. The mutation which creates red hair in humans likely predates the evolution of humans, as it the precise mutation which causes it also causes colour variations in other species, and it is statistically almost impossible for the same mutation to happen twice.

As modern humans likely evolved in Africa, It is entirely possible that this individual is of 100% african descent and just carries the recessive gene for red hair.
