Would the baby come out with red hair, black hair or brown hair?

Q. Just to clear this up, I'm not pregnant or planning to have a baby soon but I'm just wondering the genetics:

If my mother has red hair, my grandfather has red hair and many other people on my mother's side has red hair, and if I the father of my child has red hair but I don't have red hair (I have black/brown hair) would the baby come out with red hair or black hair?

Answer
Red hair is NOT the recessive form of the dark pigmentation gene. Red hair is caused by having a defective copy of the MCR1 gene. It doesn't break down red pigment in the hair or skin, allowing it to accumulate. Whether or not you have dark or fair hair is determined by the formula you've seen in some of the other posts-- BB or Bb for brown, bb for blonde.

...Except genetics is way more complicated than that. Genes can be present but not express themselves. Gene might only express themselves partway (these qualities are called permanence and expressivity). There is of course the likely possibility there are more genes involved than we know about.

Your child's chances of having red hair could be 50/50 or they could be zero. Why? If you're heterozygous (one copy of each allelle), and your husband is homozygous (two copies of the red hair allelles) then he will definitely pass one onto your kid. It's just a 50/50 shot that you will. That's the most likely.

Did your mother have strawberry blonde or auburn hair? Maybe she only had one copy, and you didn't have any. Now your kids definitely won't have it... unless they inherit one copy from their Dad and end up with the lesser redhead version.

I linked you to some more reputable sources on the genetics of hair color. Hope this helps.

I want to dye my red hair either black or turquoise?

Rose Dalek

I naturally have red hair. Not bright read, but it's a weird orangeish red. Anyway, I want to dye it either black or turquoise, probably black because I honestly really don't want to bleach my hair. I was wondering what you'd need to do in order to get red hair to black without damaging my hair too much or anything. I've heard it makes your hair oily faster, is this true? And I'm pale, and I really don't mind being a little "paler" in contrast to the black hair.

Answer
DO NOT DO BLACK. Do a very dark brown. The pigments are very very different, but I tried black and it looks horrible unless you are an Asian girl with that silky black hair. I would suggest going to a colorist and getting a very very dark brown, like jessica biel's new hair color.

You'd think I could remember simple 7th grade genetics...but I don't.

I have green eyes and blonde hair. My mom has blue eyes and blonde hair. My dad has green eyes and red hair.

He has brown eyes and brown hair. His mom has brown eyes and brown hair. His dad has blue eyes and blonde hair.

What are the possible eye/hair color combos for our children?

Answer
probably hazel eyes and dirty blond hair like me lolz

What baby can a red head and a brown hair could make?

If there was guy who has brown hair and woman with red hair, what color will their baby's hair be?

Answer
Never underestimate the power of recessive genes. When they get together, they can really surprise you. Genetics is an amazing study.

I knew a 1/2 black, 1/2 white woman and a redhead man who had 2 children with blue eyes. Apparently the woman had a recessive gene for blue eyes. Normally with this coupling you would expect the brown eye dominance.

And albinism is the result of two recessive genes meeting when both parents have normal melanin, but carry the gene unknowingly. There is a 25% chance of this with each birth.

So you never really know because each person carries a set of dominant genes (what you see) and recessive genes (what you don't see).

Dip dyed my tips red with SPLAT hair color. Can I go into the pool?

Nilay

Hi ! ,
I know you get this question a lot but I'm worried. I dyed the tips of my hair red with Splat hair color about a week ago (did not bleach it before hand). I'm going to the pool tomorrow and I'm going to be under the sun. Will there be any complications? Any tips or advice would be great.
Thank you.

Answer
I did the same thing a while back. The color will run of course considering you just dyed it but the chlorine will make it worse (and could alter the color a bit) so to prevent that, what you need to do is: before you go into the pool, soak your hair wet with un-chlorinated water so that none of the chlorine can get into the pours of your hair. Also, after you get out of the pool make sure to rinse all that water out with clean water. This is what I did and nothing bad happened. Also, re-de your hair every 2-3 weeks to keep the color vibrant. (:

What color can i dye my dyed red hair to make it stop bleeding?

Nicole

you can see my other question, im frustrated about my red hair that i dyed a month ago not washing out and the water never running clear, staining everything in sight. Im going to get a haircut today and i want to know if i can dye my hair another color that will stop making the red hair dye bleed out everytime i wash it....maybe brown?

Answer
Red dye is very different than any other color. The chemical make up is different. It's the hardest color to keep and also the hardest color to get rid of and cover up. You'll have to strip it if you want it to go away. Possibly dyeing it dark brown but only after the color stops rinsing out. I dye my hair red and have for a little over a year and it always bleeds the first few weeks. Talk to your stylist and see what they recommend. But with red dye, that's what you're going to get. If you really want to keep the red, don't wash it every day, use shampoo's specifically for red hair (Aveda makes a shampoo for warm and red tones that's organic). Don't use any shampoos with sulfate or harsh chemicals-which is a good idea for hair in general.

But like I said, talk to your stylist. Stripping it will cause damage, but dyeing over it may cause a mess because of the weird chemicals in the red dye,

I want a hair color that will help my eyes stand out and to make my skintone look great. I also want to try something new. Any ideas?

Answer
If red looks good on you/you have a lot of red/gold clothing,

If you have golden, olive or dark skin and brown or dark eyes (most Latinas, Asians and African Americans fall into this category). if you tan easily and the veins in their inner wrists are green.

then try dark brown/red hair...

If blue looks good on you/you have a lot of blue in your closet
if you have fair skin and blue or green eyes, you burn before you tan and the veins in your wrists run blue

then try a light carmelly brown hair color.

If you have the cash, get it done professionally.

If not, look for these words on the hair color box...

If you look good in red: look for words such as "warm" stay away from "ash". go for a deep chocolate, rich golden brown, auburn, warm gold, red highlights, and golden blonde shades

If you look best in blues: avoid colors such as gold, auburn or copper and seek out "cool" or "ash"

Always curl lashes before applying mascara. You can actually curl lashes AFTER mascara is applied, as long as your mascara is dried (a good tip to know if you want to curl your lashes later in the day without removing your mascara).

Don't forget your bottom lashes. For years I avoided mascara on them until a makeup expert showed me how much mascara on my lower lashes really make my eyes pop. I rarely go without now. To apply mascara on lower lashes, hold the brush vertically, then sweep it back and forth.

Individual false lashes are exotic, gorgeous and can look natural if applied correctly. Large cities offer "lash bars" in the hottest department stores. If they're too long, you can trim them with scissors.

For a doe-eyed, seductive look lining your lower lids with a creamy white eye pencil.

White liner may sound odd, but it really opens up the eye. You can also try putting it on the inside corner of both your upper and your lower lids.

Another way to open up eyes is to skip the white eyeliner and opt instead for a platinum highlighter. Dot along the browbone, then blend in. Apply highlighter at the inner corners of your eyes. Follow with eye shadow.

Make sure your brows are manicured. Until you get your brows professionally waxed, tweezed or threaded, you won't realize how much they affect the rest of your face. Cleaning up your brow line of stray hairs, adding a slight arch and filling in sparse spots are key to making eyes look much larger.

I find once you get a professional brow job, you can do it yourself for a few months using the pro job as a "map" of where to tweeze. To keep brows in place, try a clear eyebrow gel, clear mascara or just spritz a bit of hairspray onto an old toothbrush and brush brows in perfect place.
--------------------------------------â¦
If you are Asian and have small eyes like me, you probably have tried different methods to make your eyes look larger. What makes it more of a reason to do so is if you also have single eyelids. This is because most Asians have more of a fatty deposit in the area between their eyebrows and their eyelids. I have found that there a few different tricks you can do to create a look that will make your eyes appear more large and dramatic.

First, line your eyes with a waterproof or long lasting eyeliner preferably in black, which creates a more dramatic look. You will want to line the rims of your eyes (the inside portion of eye above the bottom lashes and the portion of the eye below the top lashes). You could either use an eye pencil or a liquid eyeliner. I have found that with a liquid eyeliner it is easier to line the top portion of the inner rim of your eye, but can be more difficult when lining the portion above your top lashes and the inner rim portion of your bottom lashes unless you have continuous practice and maintain a steady hand. An eye pencil is much easier to use, but may not be as bold as liquid eyeliner if you are looking for a more dramatic look.

Next, use a lengthening and volumizing mascara in the darkest color available and apply as many coats necessary or desired to create a more dramatic look. I have noticed that if you have sparse lashes there really is no need to apply mascara on your bottom lashes since there are so few anyway and the eyeliner will have already filled in the effect. Also, I noticed that if you let your lashes dry in between every few coats, the dramatic look will build more quickly and effectively instead of piling one coat after another continuously and you end up having those awful "spider leg" looking lashes.

Why are blonde girls sometimes considered a "prize"?

actress red hair 50s

actress red hair 50s image

So my best friend is blonde, and all of the guys are obsessed with her. She just got a boyfriend, and I overheard his friends and him talking about how lucky he was that he got the blonde. She isn't a slut or "easy" or anything like that. I mean she is really sweet, funny, and loves to have fun without doing drugs or getting drunk all the time. Why does this always happen with guys about blonde girls with blue eyes?

Answer
The whole deal with blonde's came from films from the 1930s and 50s.

In the 1930s not a lot of women had blonde hair [they usually had red or brown]
But a young actress names Jean Harlow died her hair platinum and made into pictures. Her most famous was called "Bombshell" [which created the phrase "blonde bombshell"]
From then on, she generally played the "vixen" or "eye candy" in pictures she starred in.
Here's a photo of Jean...

From there, the "sexy" characters in films were generally played by blonde's.
E.g. Marilyn Monroe...

So I guess now their seen as "sex kittens".
Something guys really go for.

What are good quinceanera themes?

soso

Hi, everybody. My quinceanera is in a year and I'm in dire need of a theme. Some themes I like are black and white/50s, red carpet, and jazzy kinda things. If you have any more themes, please put them in your answers. princess, pink, or island themes are not ideal for me.

Answer
How about an old hollywood theme for your quinceanera, the girls can wear there hair up or curled and could have their makeup done very classy like with a big bold red lip and a smokey eye look, they could wear pearls and wear black/white clothing and for the guys they could comb back their hair or gel it and stuff like that and wear a black classy suit or they can come dressed like their favourite actor/actress from early hollywood. You could play music from the 30/40s genre, sevre non-alochalic fun drinks, good food and snacks, or maybe even hire a local singer and ask him/her to play songs from the 30/40s just write them a list and you can just google old songs and then listen to them to get a feel of the tune and then play them at the party, sevre plates with like old hollywood icons like marylin monroe, maybe you can even make your own star walk of fame by putting all of your guests names on the stars that would be super cool! Hang pictures of hollywood icons and stuff like that, go to thrift stores you can find cool vintage pieces or even maybe a dress to wear to the party and I'm sure you can find shoes, jewellery etc. use candles and light them around everywhere, you can an old hollywood flick while your guests eat so they are entertained a good one is breakfast at tiffany's and casablanca. Don't forget decorations you could go to a party supply store and ask them what kind of decorations would look cool for an old hollywood theme party. Hope I helped and you have fun enjoy your quinceanera it's your special day!!

What does it mean if you see one-to-three angels fighting or about to fight in a dream?

Elizabeta

Not each other, but I don't think I'm sure who they were about to fight. I just remember seeing them and there was a character in there who was supposed to be a demon, so he may be it.
One of the angels represented another character who was an angel with white hair and violet eyes and the other had red hair from what I remember. The white haired one was on the ground while the red haired one was in the sky. There may have been a blonde haired blue eyed one, too.
I think it took place at a school because I was in class and then I left for lunch. After that was when I saw them and the boy the demon was with may have been slightly scared/shocked.

Answer
Most dreams are messages from the subconscious mind. Typically, you are just processing daily thoughts, feelings and events in the dream.

I immediately thought of the image of the Devil sitting on one shoulder, whispering in your ear, while an angel sits on your other shoulder, also whispering in your ear. The Devil represents the voice of ways of the world whispering for you to engage in those ways, while the Angel is the spiritual voice inside of you, also whispering for you to take the high road.

Your dream to me indicates inner conflict you may be feeling at how you should proceed in life.

I have fairly light red hair with some orange dyed at the tips (ombre but it's faded now) I want to do the same but with a temporary lavender I got from Sally's. The brand is Ion. I really don't want to bleach my hair, but I know that yellow is the opposite of purple which means my orange hair could turn brown with the dye. Anyone have experience with this? Do you think it will work out?

How do i redo the red splat without re bleaching it?

danielle

I have dyed my hair red with splat hair dye (I know its really bad for my hair) but now my dark brown roots r coming thro and the reds fading . So to redo it again do I have to really bleach? If so what is the easiest way since the roots r dark but tips r still light red? ¿ ?

Answer
Overlapping dye onto previously colored hair is what creates dullness and dryness. If you color your hair @ home or salon, let your roots grow out as long as you can stand, so the line of demarcation is easier to spot. Only run color through the lengths for five minutes to refresh the ends. To extend the time between touch-ups, use a gloss and deep -conditioning treatments. They will help smooth cuticles roughed up by daily wear & tear, and the hair will look shinier. ~ Harry Josh, hairstylist of the celebrities.

What is the poem from the movie "Taken in Broad Daylight"?

Spddin

There was a poem recited in the 2009 movie"Taken in Broad Daylight" Any one know the name?

Answer
The Shooting of Dan McGrew by Robert Services

A bunch of the boys were whooping it up
in the Malamute saloon;
The kid that handles the music-box
was hitting a jag-time tune;
Back of the bar, in a solo game,
sat Dangerous Dan McGrew,
And watching his luck was his light-o'-love,
the lady that's known as Lou.

When out of the night, which was fifty below,
and into the din and the glare,
There stumbled a miner fresh from the creeks,
dog-dirty, and loaded for bear.
He looked like a man with a foot in the grave
and scarcely the strength of a louse,
Yet he tilted a poke of dust on the bar,
and he called for drinks for the house.
There was none could place the stranger's face,
though we searched ourselves for a clue;
But we drank his health, and the last to drink
was Dangerous Dan McGrew.

There's men that somehow just grip your eyes,
and hold them hard like a spell;
And such was he, and he looked to me
like a man who had lived in hell;
With a face most hair, and the dreary stare
of a dog whose day is done,
As he watered the green stuff in his glass,
and the drops fell one by one.
Then I got to figgering who he was,
and wondering what he'd do,
And I turned my head â and there watching him
was the lady that's known as Lou.

His eyes went rubbering round the room,
and he seemed in a kind of daze,
Till at last that old piano fell
in the way of his wandering gaze.
The rag-time kid was having a drink;
there was no one else on the stool,
So the stranger stumbles across the room,
and flops down there like a fool.
In a buckskin shirt that was glazed with dirt
he sat, and I saw him sway;
Then he clutched the keys with his talon hands
â my God! but that man could play.

Were you ever out in the Great Alone,
when the moon was awful clear,
And the icy mountains hemmed you in
with a silence you most could hear;
With only the howl of a timber wolf,
and you camped there in the cold,
A half-dead thing in a stark, dead world,
clean mad for the muck called gold;
While high overhead, green, yellow and red,
the North Lights swept in bars? â
Then you've a hunch what the music meant. . .
hunger and night and the stars.

And hunger not of the belly kind,
that's banished with bacon and beans,
But the gnawing hunger of lonely men
for a home and all that it means;
For a fireside far from the cares that are,
four walls and a roof above;
But oh! so cramful of cosy joy,
and crowned with a woman's love â
A woman dearer than all the world,
and true as Heaven is true â
(God! how ghastly she looks through her rouge, â
the lady that's known as Lou).

Then on a sudden the music changed,
so soft that you scarce could hear;
But you felt that your life had been looted clean
of all that it once held dear;
That someone had stolen the woman you loved;
that her love was a devil's lie;
That your guts were gone, and the best for you
was to crawl away and die.
'Twas the crowning cry of a heart's despair,
and it thrilled you through and through â
"I guess I'll make it a spread misere",
said Dangerous Dan McGrew.

The music almost died away. . .
then it burst like a pent-up flood;
And it seemed to say, "Repay, repay",
and my eyes were blind with blood.
The thought came back of an ancient wrong,
and it stung like a frozen lash,
And the lust awoke to kill, to kill. . .
then the music stopped with a crash,
And the stranger turned, and his eyes they burned
in a most peculiar way;
In a buckskin shirt that was glazed with dirt
he sat, and I saw him sway;
Then his lips went in in a kind of grin,
and he spoke, and his voice was calm,
And "Boys," says he, "you don't know me,
and none of you care a damn;
But I want to state, and my words are straight,
and I'll bet my poke they're true,
That one of you is a hound of hell. . .
and that one is Dan McGrew."

Then I ducked my head, and the lights went out,
and two guns blazed in the dark,
And a woman screamed, and the lights went up,
and two men lay stiff and stark.
Pitched on his head, and pumped full of lead,
was Dangerous Dan McGrew,
While the man from the creeks lay clutched to the breast
of the lady that's known as Lou.

These are the simple facts of the case,
and I guess I ought to know.
They say the stranger was crazed with "hooch",
and I'm not denying it's so.
I'm not so wise as the lawyer guys,
but strictly between us two â
The woman that kissed him and â pinched his poke â
was the lady that's known as Lou.

Is there a pink hair dye where you don't need to bleach your hair?

red hair color on black hair image

thewordsim

I've been wanting to put pink streaks in my hair but can't bring myself to bleach out my hair. I asked a girl in the grocery store how she got her vibrant red hair color on top of black hair and said she used a hair dye where you don't need to bleach your hair, it's made special for dark hair. Does anyone know what the dye is called?

Answer
If you are wanting to go temporary I would suggest looking into Hot Topic online for temporary pink hair dye. It washes out after 3 or 4 washes.

What is the darkest darkest jet black hair color?

Jess

Hey guys i really love deep dark jet black blackest black hair color And i was wondering if anyone could recommend a brand to me but it has to meet certain rules. First off it has to be from a box cause i don't have tons of money for hair color from sally. I have to be able to get it at a drug store. Second it has to be just black. Not blue or purple black, and no red undertones in the sun. It has to be the darkest black. Third, it has to be really permanant because I was my hair alot. My hair holds color really well so this should not be a problem. I heard about manic panic raven, splat jet black, and punky colors, but I don't think they will last. Thanks for any help.

Answer
My hair is dyed black and it REALLY comes out black when i use this brand. Its from the brand Natural Instincts and its just the one that is regular black hair dye. It is a permanent hair dye and it really works. I put mine in about 3 or 4 months ago and it never faded at all and still looks really black. I think the price is about 8- 10 bucks or something like that.

If the father has blond hair and blue eyes, but the mother has red hair and gray eyes?

Tananda Tr

If the father has blond hair and blue eyes, but the mother has red hair and gray eyes?
What color hair and eyes will the kids have?

Answer
First a little science
Red hair is caused by a mutation on chromosome 16 which is thought to regulate about 3% of the DNA in the human body including pigment production.
This mutation alters the type of pigment that is produced.

In our bodies we have something called a melanin-activating peptide receptor (MC1R) which takes queues from the body chemicals and tells the cells in your hair, eyes and skin to produce the appropriate pigment.

If you get someone who has this mutated chromosome then the MC1R is sent a different signal to normal and essentially it is turned off so it isn't telling the hair, skin and eyes to produce a dark pigment like it normally would (brown or black eumelanin which causes dark hair, eyes and skin).

------------------

Now why does this cause red hair?
Red hair is the result of brown hair acting under the influence of this mutated chromosome. It is essentially brown hair (which normally contains a mix of brown eumelanin, red phaeomelanin and a little yellow phaeomelanin) but the dark brown eumelanin has been turned off so it isn't being produced properly, auburn hair is the result of a partially active receptor and ginger hair is the result of a completely inactive receptor.
The person with red hair really carries the gene for brown hair but also carries the mutated chromosome.

This mutated chromosome is recessive and requires to copies to be seen as a phenotype acting on the hair, if there is only one copy of the chromosome then it is a genotype and has no effect on the hair color.

--------------------

Now back to your original question.
Because this mutation is rare and very recessive, the chances are that the child would inherit blonde or brown hair rather than red (unless red hair is known on both the mother and father's side in which case it's much more likely for the child to have red hair)
However they will carry the unseen and inactive mutation for red hair which could surface in later generations if matched with another carrier of the the same mutated chromosome.

A similar effect is happening with the eyes which are also influenced by this same mutated chromosome, grey eyes are recessive over blue and it's far more likely that the child would inherit blue.

Can Someone Explain Weed (Marijuana) And How to Smoke it?

red hair kush

Joe

Alot of People i Know Do It. They said it makes them feel really good and it doesnt negativley affect them like they are still really nice and still have good morals. Here are my questions:
What are the terms? (Bowl, Bong, Buds, Dank, Etc.)
What are the Positive and Negative Effects?
How Much Does it Cost?
What are the Different Ways to Smoke it?
What are the Different Flavors?
Are there legal versions of it?
What is Kush?
THANKS! im a noob.

Answer
Joint - A joint is weed (or hash) rolled up in cigarette paper
Blunt - A blunt is weed (and/or hash) rolled in cigar paper. Although there are such things as blunt rolling papers, the typical method is to buy cheap commercial cigar, aka a blunt (Phillie Blunt,

Dry Pipes - There isn't much to explain here. A pipe is usually called a "bowl" because of the bowl shape at the end of the pipe where you stick the weed. I say dry pipe because no water is put in them for use. Pipes can be made of all sorts of materials, the safest and preferred material is glass. There are many different kinds of dry pipes, these include:

* Chillum - These are tiny pipes with very small bowls usually only good for one or two hits. They're straight shafts, the weed goes at the top and you inhale smoke from the bottom. They are the most compact and easy to hide
pipes. A lot of people use them at concerts because they are easy to get past security.

* Sherlock - These pipes are named after Sherlock Holmes, because the style is similar to the pipes he used to smoke. Instead of being straight, sherlocks have curved necks between the bowl and the mouthpiece. One thing I noticed about my sherlock is that it has a gigantic carb. If I hold the carb for a while, tons of smoke filles the innards of the pipe but doesn't seem to go into my mouth after a certain point. Releasing the carb lets in a his rush of smoke. It reminds me of a bong hit actually.

More -

Color-changing glass: Many people like to buy glass pipes that are color changing. This means that with use, over time the pipe will start to change colors or darken. I'm not sure how this works exactly but I think color changing glass works because of a combination of the heat and resin collection on the sides of the pipe.

* Bubbler - These are essentially regular pipes with a chamber somehow attached under the bowl that can be filled with water. You put youlr liquid into bubblers through the carb hole usually to avoid getting the bowl itself wet. Or that is how I do it. Chamber sizes range, but the bigger the chamber, the more water you can put in. The more water there is, the longer it will maintain a desireable temperature. Ie, I have a small bubbler, the chamber holds a fairly small amount of water. By the end of the bowl, the water is usually fairly hot. Remember as you pull hot smoke through the water, the heat has to go somewhere. If you haven't taken chemistry before this should still make sense it is a relatively simple concept.

* Bong - Also called a water-pipe these days (it is the politically correct term). This is the king of all smoking accessories. Bongs function just like bubblers except they have huge (comparatively) chambers for water. Bongs are big and you will get a ton of smoke in your lungs taking hits from these.

Qualities:

Although slang tends to vary from state to state and country to country, some words are fairly universal in describing the quality of weed.

Schwag: This is the worst grade of weed. Brown, seedy, and usually dry. It is very cheap, but you get what you pay for in this case.

Mids: This is the middle of the road weed. You'll start seeing some nug forms and possibly some red hairs and crystals. This weed will be of a lighter color and much prettier than schwag. Few seeds usually in mids.

Dank: This is sizeable nugs of weed usually. Plenty of red hairs, a nice green color and no seeds are attributes of dank. Most "dank" that I've encountered seems to be beasters. Beaster is the low end of the high-class dank weed. It
is commercially grown, seems mostly indica. Definitely not a designer specific strain.

Quantities:

Weed quantities are fairly universal. It is sold in grams, fractions of ounces usually. It goes like this:

1/8 (of an ounce) "eight": 3.5 grams
1/4 (of an ounce) "quarter/q": 7 grams
1/2 (of an ounce) "half o": 14 grams
1 ounce: 28 grams

Marijuana is a beautiful plant that somehow affects the mind in beautiful ways. You can get paranoid, though. If you ever decide to smoke weed, please do it responsible and don;t be stupid. Stay calm, because the experience might be a little strange. Try to do it with people you trust!

howdo you know the strain and the quality of Marijuana?

My "friend" does not want to seem some how pathetic or "uncool" if asking a dealer what straing and quality of Marijuana they are selling.

In my opinion, the dealer should know what kind of strain they are selling - no?

From what I hear there are several strains, some make you laugh some make you mellow.
So far "my friend" tried the ones that mellow you out.

Which strains are that? how do you know? Is it okay to ask the dealer?

Answer
if there are leafs on ur weed, u got bad weed. if there are lots of little white crystals, u got good weed. if its dense thats a good thing. purple and red colored "hairs" are good... ur not going to get hyper by smoking weed, ull find shiit funny and interesting, but sometimes ull just be burnt out but still amused.. most dealers wont really know what the strain is, theyll just kno if its good weed or not... two main strains Indica and Sativa, Indica makes you sleepy but amused, sativa makes u laugh and interested. sometimes they will know though, Kush, Purple haze, Sour diesel are some popular ones... watch the video in my "source"

What did they use for hair dye in the 1800s?

red hair 19th century image

Elizabeth

I know they didn't have factory made stuff available at stores until the 1900s so what did people use? I'm writing a story set in the 1860s or possibly 1870s (haven't decided which yet) and one of my characters is a dance hall girl. What did they use for different colors (specifically blonde and auburn/red)? Also, if you can add anything else you know about cosmetics at that time that would be awesome :D thank you!

Answer
In the 19th century the only hair dye was used for coloring grey hair to black or light brown, and it wasn't at all common. High society only would do so, and mostly European (or Americans wanting to emulate them).

"10 grams of gallic acid, 1 ounce of acetic acid y 1 ounce of tincture of sesqui-chloride of iron ". Dissolve the gallic acid in the tincture of sesqui-chloride of iron, and then add the acetic acid. Before using this preparation, the hair should be thoroughly washed with soap and water. A great and desirable peculiarity of this dye is that it can be so applied as to color the hair either black or the lighter shade of brown. If black is the color desired, the preparation must be applied when the hair is moist, and for brown it shall not be used until the hair is perfectly dry. The way to apply the compound is to dip the points of a fine tooth comb into it until the interstices are fill with the fluid, then gently draw the comb through the hair, commencing at the roots, till the dye has perceptibly taken effect. When the hair is entirely dry, oil and brushes it as usual ".

Coloring hair red or blond wasn't a possibility.

What is the origin for the word peckerwood?

T.Detwiler

Just always wondered. I know it is a racist term toward white's, but that's about it.

Answer
Peckerwood (or simply Wood) is a pejorative slang term coined in the 19th century by southern Black Americans to describe poor whites. Blacks saw blackbirds as a symbol of themselves, and the woodpecker as a representation of working class whites. They considered them loud and troublesome like the bird, often with red hair similar to the bird's red plumes. This word is still widely used by southern blacks to refer to southern whites.

In the 1940s, the abbreviated version "wood" entered California prison slang, originally meaning an Okie; but in about 1970 it became applied to white inmates as a whole, regardless of background. This has caused the symbol of the woodpecker to be used by white power skinheads. Many white supremacists identify themselves as peckerwoods, with women referred to as featherwoods. It is usually drawn with a long beak, sometimes drawn to resemble Woody Woodpecker. Sometimes the letters "PW" or "APW" (Peckerwood and American Peckerwood) is used. The peckerwood gangs are concentrated in Tujunga, where they trade in methamphetamine.

The exact etymological relationship between "peckerwood" and "woodpecker" is unclear. It is reported that in some Appalachian dialects, "peckerwood" is the normal word for "woodpecker" (possibly as part of a larger grammatical pattern); from this, it is speculated that speakers of other dialects may have applied this word to speakers of that dialect as a form of metonymic derision. (Cf. the speculated etymology of spic from "no spic English".)

Other uses
Peckerwood is also a place name in the musical Mame.

The prisoners' cemetery at Leavenworth Prison in Kansas is known as Peckerwood Cemetery.

The prisoners' cemetery at Sycamore Street and Bearkat Boulevard in Huntsville, Texas is known as Peckerwood Hill. The largest of many prisoner cemeteries operated by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, its formal name is the Captain Joe Byrd Cemetery. The nickname came about because most of the prisoners buried there were poor whites. The 22-acre facility is still in use and has graves dating back to 1870. It is also the burial place of Kiowa Chief Satanta, imprisoned in 1871 by the United States after a raid on a wagon train.

Peckerwood Creek is a tributary of the Coosa River in Alabama. This has also been suggested as an origin of the pejorative.

In Robert Ferrigno's Prayers for the Assassin, the citizens of the Bible Belt are referred to as "peckerwoods" by their neighbours in the Islamic Republic to the north.

What is the best option for temporary hair color for Halloween?

Broken Sup

I don't want something that's going to be in for a really long time, but I'm going to this party. I want to cover most (if not all) my hair, and have it wash out in a couple washes. A few friends say that kool-aid is awesome, but it stays in for a while (a few dozen washes, a month or two) and a few have said that spray is great for a few hours, but it flakes and I should bring a can for touch ups. I have medium-dark brown hair, thick, wavy/curly and I need it to be as close to Ariel's signature red hair as possible without ruining my hair.

Do you know of a medium between kool-aid and colored spray? I would like something that will last more than a single day or two, but I don't want anything longer than that and I really don't want to buy a wig since I'm only using this for a day.

Thank you and have a wonderful day/night!

Answer
Three options are hair chalk, hair gel, or hair mousse. The hair gel and mousse they sell colored (not just the clear stuff). The chalk might be a little light, however it might work. If you want any of these to last more than a day, they should last like two to three, just don't wash it.

Red hair and recessive and dominant genes?

red hair recessive or dominant
on The Merkley Family: dominant and recessive traits
red hair recessive or dominant image
Q. I am confused about the facts about the recessive and dominant genes in red hair. I have had people tell me that red hair is a recessive trait, and both sides have to carry it for it to show up. I have also had people tell me that it skips a generation. I just want to know the facts so that when my child is born and it doesn't have the same dark red hair as my husband people, his mother mostly, who is convinced it's going to be a red haired child, can be set straight about the about the whole thing. Thanks.

Answer
"Red hair is not actually a recessive gene (like blonde is), but is rather an "incomplete dominant." In the world of genes, there are dominant genes, which take over any recessive gene (brown, black), recessive genes (blonde), which will be taken over by any dominant gene, or incomplete dominent genes (red). Incomplete dominant genes will "blend" with any dominant, recessive or other incomplete dominant gene. I, for example, have "auburn" hair, which is essentially red blended with brown. Strawberry blondes are red blended with blonde.

So you've got yourself a red headed parent (let's call those genes aa) and a blonde parent, which we'll represent as bb. 100% of the offspring will have one hair color gene from each parent, or ab. This means red and blonde. Since red will always blend with other genes, the resulting hair color should be a blend of blonde and red, or strawberry blonde. In the case of my parents, which both have brown hair (let's call the brown/black genes C), either one parent or possibly both are carrying one "a" in addition to their brown or black genes, with the possibility of even a blonde thrown in (CC, Cb, or Ca). My parents are probably (Ca, CC). I'm probably a Ca, or a blend of brown and red. This result has an outcome likelihood of 50%."

Grey Silen

It's only a semi-permanent dye, and the two I want to mix are called Chocolate and Red Embers. My natural hair colour is medium brown and I used the 'Natural Brown' one a while ago and liked the results, so it's not the product I'm worried about but rather the end result. Could someone who knows about this kind of stuff or has used/mixed these products please give me some advice? And if you have used the Red Embers one before, how did it turn out?

Thank you! :)

Call the 1-800# found on the box of dye or email them, (to find #, go online & search the brand if you don't have the box) they're the hair color experts they can advice you best. Style meets chemistry meets biology: We're talking hair coloring.

Playing with chemicals is not like playing with clothes, or doing a manicure, there are penalties for playing chemicals in the lab. Even hair color experts at the salon are not rocket scientists, they do a bang up dye jobs to their clients or their own hair.
Example: "My hair is right about armpit length as it is, but I've severely damaged it by bleaching it all at once. As a student of cosmetology myself, I would have to say that it was probably one of the worst mistakes I could have ever made."
Another example: ok i did my hair yesterday i DIDN'T bleach it ,but im not sure what its called but she took the color out of my hair and then dies it a blond color and my head was on fire it killed me so after that i hated my hair color so i colored it my self a darker color, it looked so ugly and it burned me again it rully hrt so after i washed it my mom checked it for me and found small spots of blood all over my top scalp like over 20 of em now im scared and don't know why its there is it from the color am i sick and something is wrong ??

The chemical is not new and is present in a number of brands of dark hair colours, acting to help adhere the dye to the hair so that it doesn't wash out. Itâs made from coal tar and is used in both permanent and semi-permanent hair colours. Itâs well-known to be a cause of serious allergic reactions -- including something called contact dermatitis which can lead to rashes, blisters, and open sores.
PPD is sometimes added to black henna tattoos and that using them is not safe. Allergic reactions usually begin within two to 10 days following application. One bad reaction can lead to sensitivities to other products such as hair dye, sunblock and some types of clothing dyes. Oftentimes, it's using the product a second or third time.

How can i lighten my red hair without bleach?

anonymo

my natural hair color was dirty blonde/light brown and i've dye it black before and once it faded to brown i dyed it a deep auburn. my brown roots started coming in so now i want to dye it back to light brown. I got golden brown hair dye but it only dyed my roots and didnt really change the red at all. My friend said i need to lighten it first but I WILL NOT USE BLEACH! so how will i lighten it? Will a toner work?

Answer
When you put hair dye on your hair, you can't lighten them up by adding another layer of hair dye over it. That's like adding another layer of crayola color on top of another. That will only take longer to get back to your 'natural' roots. It doesn't work that way! Style meets chemistry meets biology: We're talking hair coloring.

The allergic reaction was caused by a well-known brand of semi-permanent hair dye Chloe used to turn her hair black for a Halloweâen party. . . . . called for beauty bosses to ban hair dye chemical PPD (para-phenylenediamine) from the shelves. 11-04-11

You can do one of two things, to remove most of that dye.
1. By using Tide detergent with shampoo

or

2. By shampooing you hair mix with a bit of Dawn.

What were cosmetics like during the Victorian period?

I know that for the most part, Victorian women wore little or no makeup. However, I've heard that Queen Alexandra of Britain was able to maintain her youthful appearance by using heavy makeup. What was Victorian makeup like and what did it consist of?

Answer
All right, let's see...

Women still used lye to dye their hair like they've been doing since Roman times, and it was widely done until the late 19th century. They did begin, however, in Victorian times to use zinc oxide to powder their faces rather than lead oxide because it was slightly less poisonous, though it was actually still (unbeknownst to them) just as dangerous.

They used lead and antimony sulfide as eyeshadow, a form of mercury, I think mercuric sulfide, to make their lips red, and would orally take supplements of belladonna or even nightshade to make their eyes appear sparkly. All of those things are harmful to ones health, even in moderation, but they for some reason failed to make the connection. Either that, or they just didn't care.

It was also popular to put egg whites on your faces and allow it to dry, creating what I would think to be a porcelain-like appearance.

The early Victorian period was pretty much the last period in history that make-up was heavily worn in Europe until later in the 20th century, because in conservative Victorian England, make-up was seen as devilry and unnatural, and therefore a sin.

I purchased Foxy Locks extensions in Mahogany (like cheryl cole) here is the link for colour

http://foxylocksextensions.com/item_47/Deluxe-20-Clip-In-Remy-Human-Hair-Extensions-Mahogany-Red-33.htm

I got them on ebay as they were cheap and thinking I could dye my own hair the same colour, except my hair is dark brown/red and the extensions are a lot lighter so I think i would have to bleach my hair which is too much time and money and I'd love to be able to wear my extensions on xmas day, so to be safe (and as I cannot afford a hairdresser) can I dye my hair and extensions the same colour with hair dye from a shop and if so what would be best to use to get both an even same colour, which brand, what colour, semi or permanent? please help, thank you

Answer
I used L'oreal Casting Creme Gloss dye, in Black Cherry, and its SORTA-ish kinda turned out red. Its really, really, dark red, but in certain lights in nice. Its just to dark for me. HOWEVER, when I first did it, I left it on five mins shorter, and it was like that colour. But if you went darker, it would look like mahogonay highlights :)
Or, ofc, you could just get the mahogony casting creme gloss. :) it leaves you hair sleek and shiny! :D

How do I get my hair the same colour as my extensions?

I have never coloured my hair before but want to dye it now as close to pillar box red as i can. I don't want to bleach it first but do want a long-lasting bright red. I am a student so don't have enough money to go to a hair salon, so am looking for one to use at home, what is the best one anyone has found? I am just worried that i will do it and it will fade to a boring colour.

Answer
hiya I'm in the exact same position as you. One thing you should know before dying your hair red is that red is the weakest pigmant of all and even if its permenant it will fade thats a gaurantee. I would use xxl live colours like real red from a brand a can't spell sorry but you may know what I mean dr sharowsohff is how you prounonce it i think. Anyways I have finnaly got my hair pillabox red but it will need to be bleeched. I bleeched my hair after three times of dying my hair. I would seriously go for bleeching before you add any colour at all as it can be quite painfull and willl take more than one do if you have dyed your hair previously. Then you will need some sort of fudge colour like a crazy colour or manic panic to get bright red hair that what i have used. However they will not last long. The only place i know where you can get permenant bright red hair is at a salon named TonynGuy but that may cost you about £35+

How do I get my dyed red hair to fade faster?

Liz

I just went to the hair salon and dyed my hair for the first time. It went from a deep dark brown to red. The shade of red I ended up with wasnt entirely what I wanted --- I wanted a copper orange and ended up with a very intense red. My colorist said the red will fade out within the next week or so and it will be more coppery. On the plus side of all this, at least red fades out quickly. Anybody have tips for how to make it fade faster?

Answer
My mom had this.same exact problem and she kept washing her hair everyday about 2 times a day n she would use a shampoo and conditioner that would NOT protect your hair color

I hope this helps...
