I'm open to various options except shaving my head lol Oh and nothing too expensive. Ive dyed my hair a lot and have various colors underneath. I started off with brown, then red, then black, then i bleached it back to red and have different shades of red & now im trying to go back to a chocolate brown (close to my natural hair color). So please any remedies or good brands of hair color remover post them up it would help alot, my goal is to strip my hair and cut off all the split ends & leave it natural so it could grow & be long & healthy

Answer
You can go to the salon and get it striped of all the colors you have dyed it and get it back to your natural color or you can dye it back to your natural color it's not good to dye your hair tho when it's already damaged you should get a leave in conditioner or cream for dry frizzy hair or split ends. Get your hair looking healthy before you dye it again

Should I bleach my hair to become a light ash blonde with highlights?

Nicole

I really want to bleach my hair to an ash blonde. I've had the blonde in my hair before, but I've never done it myself. I've looked at some products to buy to go through the lengthy process. I just need maybe some advice on going through the process or tips on making it more successful and easier.
I want to start with Color Oops Hair Color Remover to get all the color out of my hair and back to the lightest color possible. Then use Manic Panic Flash Lightning Hair Bleach Kit with 40 Volume Developer to completly bleach my hair. After that I want to use L'Oreal Superior Preference Dream Blonde Hair Color, 9A Light Ash Blonde to get my hair to the color I want. But I'm going to buy Ardell Red Gold Corrector Plus to make sure their aren't any gold or orange brassy tones before applying the hair color. Next I want to use the Revlon Frost & Glow Highlighting Kit to throw some dimension to my hair color with highlights. I just need to know if I am going about this the correct way. Any help is welcome!

Answer
Go to a professional salon is the best advice I can give you. I know it's not what you want to hear, but this is a really tricky process and it can definitely go wrong very easily. Trust me, I've tried this multiple times and so have friends of mine, and the results have often been a little scary. I would definitely say going to a salon is pertinent, unless you have a friend who is a hair dresser who can monitor you.

I had my hair dyed dark brown three months ago (SEMI Permanent), to cover red hair color that was done a month or so before that. It's probably a medium to dark brown on the ends, with the old red hair color coming through. I went to a salon and asked for her to lighten my hair color to a light brown. Well, she decided to only put lightener on my roots (which are now a medium blonde), and waited until after to tell me that you can't lift color with color. I'm going back tomorrow to see what I can do to fix the botched color job. How can I lighten my hair (without using highlights), without causing too much damage?

Answer
I had to have all the color stripped out of my hair then another color put in when I had a botched color job. That is about all I could do

I want to get back to my natural red hair color. Right now it is an odd burgundy color. How do I get red back?

I highlighted my red hair blonde 6 months ago. I tried to fix up my roots by dyeing the entire thing red. It came out to a weird burgundy color. I want to get my natural red hair color back. I've heard washing it with Head and Shoulders. I have also heard of hair stripping. Cost really isn't an issue. I want my natural hair color back!! Please help me!!!!

I have ebony relaxed hair. I use bold beautiful hair color (rinse) light ash brown to cover my gray hair. I accidentally used dark ash brown which left my hair color too dark. I then used the light ash brown which turn my hair green. Can anyone tell me how to get the geen out without damaging my hair any further.

Answer
Toner alone (without developer) won't damage it any further. It will layer more color on, and you need to be under a dryer for 10 minutes for it to saturate the hair shaft. To get the green neutralized, you may have to use a red/golden base toner.

You may need to see a professional.

How do I make my red hair colour warmer without dyeing it again?

Cha Cha

I dyed my hair a warm copper red, but it turned out as a cherry, violet, cool shade of red instead. How can I add a bit of warmth to my hair colour without buying yet another box of hair dye. Are there copper rinses or anything like that?

Answer
I don't believe so. You can try highlighting, or maybe using henna, but I suppose that still counts as dyeing. If I were you, I would wait another week (at least. Dyeing hair so closely together is never a good idea.), then use a red dye that specifically says 'warm'. L'Oreal sells these. Their "Feria" haircolor line has different shades that are categorized as "warm", "cool", or "neutral." They have very pretty, prismatic dyes that almost seem highlighted, due to the tones the dyes offer.

Good luck!

Okay so in my last question some one gave me advice as to what colors would look good with my red hair. The color that i have literally looks like a red crayola crayon. The girl had said that black, white, navy and dark green would look good with my hair. what other colors do you think would look nice? I have tan skin too. (if that helps out some how)

Answer
You sound really pretty. Hahahaa.(: I wouldn't wear black close to your face: choose tops and accessories in natural, earth tones such as dark and olive greens, beiges, browns, golds, camel and even orange reds. Black is OK to wear on skirts and trousers. If you have a black jacket that you like, don't worry: you can always brighten it up with a shawl in the colors mentioned above. Purple, bright red, navy and pink are also on the no-no list and should probably be avoided. There is in fact a whole debate going on between stylists as to whether the clash between red hair and colors such as pink or purple is fashionable or tacky. Pale pink, for example, may suit dark redheads but looks edgy and "loud" on women with a more copper-colored 'do.

In the end, it's a matter of each and every woman's taste - but as an overall piece of advice, avoid such colors unless you're looking to make sure every eye is on you at a party or on an evening out with your friends. If you do want to wear pink, for example, make sure you go for a more intense or darker shade of pink for the bottom half and a lighter shade for your top. Pink accessories are not a good idea. And remember the golden rule: if in doubt, don't wear it(: Hope this helped.

Why do some black women dye their hair purple and odd red colors?

Lallaa

I think we look best with our natural hair color. My hair color is DARK BLACK and it really compliments my skin tone (medium brown).

Red works for some of us but its usually a loud red color they use.

Answer
Well, some black women just really love making a statement, they're loud and proud and so is their hair and nails. lol.

I for one think the main reason many people believe black women have no hair is b/ca a lot of black women are unrealistic about their choice of hair styles. Sometimes when I want to give my hair a break, I get my natural hair tree braided with extensions that look like MY hair. No one ever notices the difference. White women and Asian women wear weaves and wigs but nobody, (unless you're an experienced veteran ;D) can really tell the difference. They hit their mark but many fine black woman are missing theirs.

Can I leave my color shampoo in over night?

on Hold Your Color - Redbook
red hair color depositing conditioner image

Cookie_Mon

I've recently gotten my hair dyed a deep red, and red fades very easily as you know. I have a red depositing shampoo, but not a red depositing conditioner. The conditioner is for people who have red hair, but it doesn't deposit anything. I left the conditioner in over night and I'm still not getting the deep conditioning results i want from it. Suggestions?

Answer
If you leave the shampoo in over night your hair will likely lose colour faster because the shampoo actually strips the colour, so don't do that. My suggestions are to wash your hair in cool-cold water which will keep the hair follicle closed so you don't lose colour as fast and invest in a red depositing conditioner that you can keep on for a while and let your hair soak in the pigment. You're wasting by buying a red depositing shampoo because of how it strips the colour. Also, try to avoid heat styling as often as possible because that will definitely make it fade faster. I hope this helped.

How can I darken my red hair without losing the natural highlights?

Q. I have red hair, but I'm out in the sun a lot and it's streaked with both blonde, and a little gray these days. I would like to darken it up a little, because the color looks a little washed out and has no depth, but I don't want that single toned look of coloring, and I don't want to cover all the highlights. Is there a good wash or technique for adding a little depth to the color? My hair has never been colored before, and is in good condition.

Answer
Your best bet is to try a color depositing shampoo. It revs up the natural tones in your hair and kicks up the hue without drastically changing the color. Your second best bet would be a color glaze, which does basically the same thing, though the color glaze is not used like a shampoo but like a conditioner.

John Frieda has both of these products for red hair.

If you actually want to dye the hair, one thing you have to remember is to make sure that the package has "semi" or "demi" permanent on the box and absolutely make sure it says "ammonia free". With natural red hair you do NOT want ammonia, it will end up orange. If you are going to dye it, pick a shade that is no more than 2 shades lighter or darker than your natural color. This is especially important since you are trying to preserve the natural highlites. You mentioned you have some gray, so keep in mind that grays are more stubborn to color than pigmented hues. They may turn out lighter than the rest of your hair.

Many other brands have color glazes and color depositing shampoos but John Frieda is a popular one. L'Oreal and Garnier are also good, and both offer "box dye".

I just recently dyed my hair from blond to almost black. I live in Florida and plan on spending the spring and summer seasons outside by the river, but I really don't want my new hair color to fade. What are some hair products proven to protect color treated hair from the sun's damaging rays?

Answer
L'Anza Colorcare is great. I have red hair (which is the quickest color to fade because of the size of the molecules) and particularly like the Trauma Treatment (an intensive conditioner) and the Magic Bullet (a spray-in detangler). These contain UV protection to help shield your hair from the effects of the sun.

Hope you like them!

How long does salon hair color stay in?

Fincgrad

If I get permanent hair color put in by a salon, how long does it typically last (if I take care of it with color formulated hair care products)? Although it should be permanent (or until the roots grow completely out), I wanted to check because I use a store bought kit that is permanent, but because it is auburn (red shades fade quicker than any other), it typically lasts less than 2 months. At the salon it will be colored auburn also. Thank you for any help.

red hair vikings
on ... man who was nicknamed eric the red because of his red hair and beard

Cairistion

I'm jealous of anyone who is a redhead lol! I wish I had red hair!

Answer
Red hair is recessive. Basically, if I inherit one gene for "brown hair" and one for "red hair", the gene for "brown hair" will dominate and I will have brown hair. The only way you get red hair is if BOTH genes are "red hair" genes. Now, it is a little more complex than that because there are more than two genes that determine hair colour, but that's the basic idea. It's sometimes called a "defect" but it's not....it's just recessive.

EDIT: Other people have answered with a cultural explanation and that's true too. Red hair originated in the north European area...I can't remember where exactly...maybe with the vikings? Anyway, it was a relatively small group of people, so spreading the "red hair" recessive gene to other cultures without the "red hair" gene at all - would have been really slow.

But I wanted to know if there are other physical characteristics or personalities. If there is, can you tell me. Thanks!

Actually red hair green/blue eyes is not a typical Irish look. A lot of Irish people have very dark-black hair and blue eyes, and very pale skin. The Irish population is made up of a mixed heritage -Viking Celtic, Norman etc.

I'm meaning what shade of red would i have to use to get it to her color.

Answer
A really rich red. I'd recommend going to a salon, just because red is an extremely tricky color, and you need to have the perfect shade for your skin tone. Especially if your skin is really pink, or you have dark eyes or features (or olive or tan skin) you NEED to see a professional. Everyone can pull off some shade of red, but the one you have your eye one may not be the best for you (it's hard to say not knowing what your naturalcolor or skintone is like)

Keep in mind too that it's the fastest to fade, so it takes lots of extra care and maintenance.

How do you prevent red bumps when shaving pubic area?

Question A

I am a 17 year old male who shaves my pubic area for hygiene and cleanliness. Everything is good for a day or two after i shave but i then develop red bumps until the hair grows back completely. I try using lotions and baby powder to keep the area moist but it's not effective in removing the red bumps. Please help! Thanks!

Answer
I feel your pain, man. I recommend the following:

Trim your Pubic Hair
To make this process easier, trim the genital area before applying the razor! You'll save blades this way. Electric razors, clippers (with safety guards) or scissors work well. To get a closer cut and avoid unwanted nicks, pull the hair up then trim away.

Soaking
Take a long, warm bath beforehand. This softens coarse pubic hair and makes it easier to shave and style.

Lathering
Apply shaving cream or gel to lather the pubic area. A thin layer of petroleum jelly will help with a closer shave. Soap doesn't make the best lather for pubic shaving. Note that some people may have allergic reactions to certain shaving cream.

Shaving
There are many different ways to style your pubic hair. Think about it before you start and be as creative as you desire. It is recommended to shave the same way the hair grows. Avoid constantly stroking the same area during the shave because this may irritate the skin. Aim for two to three short strokes. Do stretch the skin to reach the difficult hairy spots.

Attention First-Timers! The pubic area is sensitive and may take time to adjust to the razor. Shaving once a week is enough for your first month. Don't worry about a smooth shave the first month.

Exfoliating (Removing dead skin)
It's important to clean your skin after shaving. The best way is with a "loofa sponge" and your normal body soap. Due to sensitivity of this area, rub lightly with the sponge to prevent skin irritation. This will help remove anything that may clog the pores.

Moisturizing
Rinse, dry and moisturize the freshly shaven pubic area. Baby oil and Aloe Vera work well. It's best to avoid moisturizers that contain fragrances and colors, since this may cause irritation. You may also want to use baby powder for comfort.

Hygienic Maintenance
Wash your shaven genitals on a daily basis. This helps remove unwanted oils and sweat. Moisturize and powder the area daily to avoid irritation. If you keep the hair short, you'll avoid stubbles, which causes itching. Try to wear cotton underwear and to stay away from tight fitting cloths pants. The lack of air circulation and friction of tight cloths may lead to in-grown hairs.

A Few Warnings

For some people, pubic hair is always easy and fun. However, for many other people it presents problems. When the genital hair begins to grow back, itching often occurs. Red bumps and ingrown hair may appear. To relieve the irritation, you can apply cortisone cream. If these symptoms cause you stress or don't go away, see a doctor.
People who are allergic and react to some shaving creams. This area seems to have heightened sensitivity. Furthermore, if it does react, your natural sweat and the natural abrasion this area receives will most likely make your life miserable (temporarily). Use hypoallergenic shaving creams or consider avoiding shaving all together.
Some women have noted genital sensitivity during menstruation. If shaving becomes uncomfortable for women during their periods, they should time pubic shaving around their menstruation cycle.
If shaving does irritate your skin, waxing may not cause as much irritation or in-grown hairs.

Hair color for a complexion that is a blend of warm and cool?

Q. I might get my hair colored soon. My complexion is a blend of warm and cool and I have dark brown eyes and hair. I am thinking about a darker brown, but what other colors might be possible?

Answer
I have the same issue. I have dark brown hair and eyes and my skin is a warm colour with olive tones in it.
It's quite the predicament with colours :/
I find a dark mahogany looks good, with the red undertones it has. Certain shades of black look okay (with dark eyes and warm skin it doesn't look real fake like it does on a lot of people) and I found that a dark brown colour on the purplish side looked alright, too.
Red isn't usually a good idea because it clashes with your colouring a bit.

Although I'd be careful when taking my advice on this because I've walked around with dark pink hair before xD

I have really dark brown hair, it's almost black. I put red hair dye on it yesterday and
as I suspected, it just made my blonde roots red. Is there a way to get it to be red without bleaching it? I was thinking about just putting blonde on it and then it would turn an orange color and then put the red back in it, but I'm not sure if this is a good idea. Any suggestions?

I had yellow hair that was bleached. Then I dyed it black (well on the box it looked dark dark dark brown) though, because I didn't like it. It's turning brownish red now though. So my questions are..

a) Is that normal?
b) If i were to get a hair color remover, would my hair turn blonde (like the bleach) or reddish brown?

Answer
First of all, no hair color aside from bleach is permanent.
Because you stripped all pigment from your hair when you bleached it, the black dye has nothing to stick to and will fall right out.
It is suggested that if you want a brown or black color after bleaching, that you first color your hair redish to add pigment and then put your desired color.

Can someone help solve this perplexing hair issue?

Volleyball

When I want to dye my hair red after dying it dark, I use a hair color remover (not bleach, it only lightens the hair to what the latest dye lightened it to, or your natural color) and then when I put on the new dye, it ends up brownish and ashy even if it's red. What is the reason for this? Is there anything I can do to prevent it?

Answer
The difference between an extractor (what you are using) and lightener (bleach) is that an extractor robs the color molecules of oxygen and they decolorize, shrink, break apart and dissipate out of the hair. Lightener will decolorize, shrink, break apart and dissipate all color molecules out the hair. The reason extractors are able to only remove artificial color is because artificial color relies on oxygen for the color to develop (oxidize... become the color you can see). Natural color doesn't rely on oxygen to be the color that you see. So robbing natural color of oxygen leaves it unchanged. Lightener breaks up all color, artificial or natural and makes it small enough to pass out of the hair shaft.

What is happening to you is that you have artificially colored your hair so many times that your hair is highly saturated with color molecules. When you are trying to use the extractor you are not getting out all the artificial color molecules. Some color is left in the hair even if you can't see it. Then when you reapply the color the oxygen from the developer is re-oxidizing (giving the molecules back the oxygen they were robbed of) the old color pigments and they are turning back to the dark color. If you mix enough colors eventually you end up with "mud" or brownish and ashy even when you are trying to go red. Have you ever mixed paints or even color crayons with a ton of different colors to the point that no matter what color you added it stayed the same "muddy" color?

The best thing for you to do (short of seeing a professional... which I HIGHLY recommend) is to use a lightener to remove enough of the color instead of just temporarily robbing it of oxygen to be able to get to the red shade you desire. Once you have enough pigments removed you will be able to apply the color you desire without risking the old dark color redeveloping. This is going to be VERY damaging to your hair, then again what you are doing now is damaging also. It "could" infact damage your hair to the point it will no longer accept any color pigment at all either...

I have brown eyes, very fair skin, and red hair. I usually wear purple, pink or light brown eyeshadow but lately I've been wanting to try something different. I've heard about using blue on brown eyes, but I'm not sure how that would look on me. Any suggestions?

Answer
depends on what looks your going for
brown on brown is a beautiful look,
since you have red hair, i think black eye shadow ( not to much, like a hooker) would look so good on you. I'm thinking the smokey eyes?
you should try these looks for a school day, or just going out

THIS would look really good on you

DON'T do blue
you'll just look like a rainbow

if you want color i suggest green eyeshadow, because red hair is always compared with nature.
these are okay

What colors of eye makeup would look good with a light tangerine colored dress?

Bekah

I have blue eyes and red hair and fair skin. I can't decide if I should do a orange/gold fiery look or a brownish black smokey eye. Any suggestions?

Answer
Go with a soft smoky eye, using neutral colors like light brown's and tannish colors. I think since your dress is pretty bold you should do subtle make-up. Look on Youtube for simple make-up tutorials. Hope that helps :)

Can you use Splat or manic panic hair dye without bleach?

Jessica

I am thrilled with hair chalk, my cousin has some hair dye she has not used in a while. Can I use it without bleach. If i do need bleach how viberant will it be without it. My hair is black, the dye is a greenish blue.

Answer
If you try this, you will need to wash your hair very thoroughly to remove oil so the dye can penetrate.

Given the color of your hair and the color of the dye you listed above, the best you can hope for are some probably ugly drab greenish lowlights. Not highlights, since you aren't bleaching, just a subtle drab undertone.

I'd strongly suggest against it.

Maybe red dye for a bit of a red, or bright blue dye for a sort of Indy tone, but definitely not green or a mixture. Your avatar suggests you have darker skin and green will NOT be a flattering color for you even as a subtle undertone.

What is a good brand for temporary hair dye?

Awesome

i want to dip die my hair or tie dye the ends. I am not allowed to permanently dye my hair. I want to find dye that won't damage my hair. the look i am going for is http://www.tomoson.com/uploads/promotions/015597872cf3d4add3cb8974b58a67eda5876ddf.jpg or something like http://amomsrantings.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/hairChalk.jpg i was going to do hair chalk but it only lasts about a day. i wanted to try something that lasts at least one week. my hair is medium brown.
My hair stains really easily and i did try kool aid before and it stained my hair. i had to get it cut out.

Answer
I have light brown hair and what i did was dye a piece of my hair red with kool aid! It works really well and it is temporary. There are many ways to go about this and all i did was...

1. Boil a cup of water on the stove.
2. Pour it in a cup or bowl and add the unsweetened kool aid packet of your choice. For more vibrate colors use 2 or 3 packets.
3. Stir it all up and let it cool just a little
4. Dipped my hair in the kool aid mixture and let it sit in there for about 5-7 minutes and then pull it out but be super careful because it can be super messy and stair a lot of stuff and get all over your skin
5. Blow dry your hair and see how it looks :)

Some of the dye will come out when you first wash your hair but the rest of the color will stay in. Usually it last a week maybe 2. if you don't want it to last too long i wouldn't leave your hair in the bowl for a long period of time. And if you just wash your hair a lot it will come out faster. If you really want it out quick there are tons of videos on youtube and just info online about how to get it out.

I just recently dyed a couple strands of my hair (like i said red, i used 3 packets of cherry unsweetened) and i left my hair in for a long time like 20 minutes and my dye is still super vibrate and i dyed it over 2 weeks ago.

Just remember its messy and to use UNSWEETENED kool aid. There are a bunch of videos on youtube for more ways to do this but this is what i found to be the most effective.

Good luck and have fun!

How should I wear my hair to the dance tonight?

Cheerleade

Okay,I dont want to make a big deal out of it because its just like,a regular dance we have each month.I have long red hair, with natural blonde highlights.I have long bangs(just below my chin)parted to the (right)side.

Thanks for the suggestions !(:

~P.S~
Best suggestion gets 10 pts ! !

Answer
part your bangs all the way to the left or right (whatevers easier)
braid the bangs. nothing fancy, doesnt have to be a french braid, just a regular loose braid. use two bobbypins for extra hold for when your dancing lol. dont braid it too long or too tight, clip it.
then, scrunch your hair with moose, not gel. only use a little otherwise it will look greasy or wet.
pull into a low side pony tail.

should look like this:

I have natural red hair and i want to make it look lighter would blonde highlights half head or full be good?

Alicia

I have darker natural red hair and i was wondering would blonde highlights make it look lighter and if so should i get half head or full head.
I am getting my hair done in january but i havent decided what type of blonde to go with and im getting half a head of foils done to see how it goes and maybe next visit full head foils but not sure if it would make my red look lighter and if it would look good with fair skin and freckles and hazel / green eyes

Answer
I prefer half heads on everyone because you get more dimension. You'll still see your natural color when you put your hair up which to me, just looks better. But make sure you tell the stylist to weave all the highlights. If you don't want it to look chunky!

How do I keep my hair color from fading in the sun?

red hair color live image

Kelsey:]

Why do people have different hair and eye colors?

Q. It is to my understanding that each organisms characteristics developed over millions of years of adaptation, and each characteristic, at some time or another, helped that organism survive. For example, peoples living near the equator tend to have darker skin to protect their skin from sun damage. Why is it then, that in some regions of Europe, many people have blonde, red, or brown variations of hair color? How did it help those people survive in prehistoric times? I pose the same question for eye color. Lastly, why do people in some parts of Asia have different eye shapes than in other parts of the world?

Answer
it has something to do with the genes
as Gregor Mendel's study says that the most dominant gene is the one that is commonly hereditary to the children in the family!!

i think i got the point of it :D
