Tamara

My friends said it's because I'm stressing which I'm not. But why did i see 1 piece of white hair on my head? Btw I pulled it out.

Answer
The little boy down the street from me was born with gray bangs, as he got older to his teens, they became the rest of the color on his hair. I thought his mom was dyeing his hair, but they weren't. Their child's health was otherwise good, and there wasn't any more graying next several years or decades to come. If a child suddenly starts graying like about 4, pediatrician can advise the parents whether blood tests or an evaluation by a dermatologist or other specialist might be helpful to determine a potential cause for the child's gray hair.

I dye my hair every 4-6 weeks (it's healthy) I couldn't find "my color" this time so...?

Tara

I got a similar shade that was called "medium auburn" instead of "bright auburn"(my shade). I don't like it- it's bland and barely has any red tints at all... How long should I wait to re-dye it? I have school in two days and I'd like for everyone to continue thinking I have red hair. Lol. 24 hours seem reasonable? (The color I used was a "buttercream" formula- my hair seems soft and smooth).
Thanks in advance for your input. ;-) I WILL choose best answer
Wow. So far all three of you have missed the mark. To the first person I WANT MY HAIR RED AGAIN. to the 2nd person, you didn't really answer my question-- I could have google searched that - I wanted experience... Answer
Overlapping dye onto previously colored hair is what creates dullness and dryness. If you color your hair @ home or salon, let your roots grow out as long as you can stand, so the line of demarcation is easier to spot. Only run color through the lengths for five minutes to refresh the ends. To extend the time between touch-ups, use a gloss and deep -conditioning treatments. They will help smooth cuticles roughed up by daily wear & tear, and the hair will look shinier. ~ Harry Josh, hairstylist of the celebrities.

What is the most NATURAL looking RED hair color?

jaded_illu

Okay thank you all in advance, MY question is what do you think the most natural red hair dye there is out there I am looking for a red that isn't egg plant in tone nor a burgundy. A real looking red....probably a medium tone etc as well as the brand and tone of course. Whats your opinion?

Answer
Quick tip, do not use manic panic hair dye! If you do it will come out red and cool but then you cannot get the stuff out even when it fades. Then if you want to lighten your hair it will not lighten at all. Manic panic is METALLIC, that means it heats up to a very high temperature under the hair dryer and will not allow your hair to accept any other lightening treatments, etc... So just a heads up, they have great reds, but don't plan on lightening your hair after using them! I had to cut all of my hair off after trying to get highlights over it. I literally sat under the dryer and heard cracking and popping noises for about 15 minutes, it was the metallic heating up and frying my hair!!! My hair looks nice short, thank god, I didn't have much of a choice...So redhead seekers beware man haha...Just trying to save someone else from making this mistake. Manic Panic is amazing stuff, but they should have a warning label on them! Do not heat up your head!

Q. i have like an auburn hair color do guys find red head's attractive?

Answer
as a redhead myself, let me offer you this:
blondes do not have more fun.

Consider that only 18% of the entire world has true (natural) red hair. It's rare, exotic, and definately gets you noticed! Besides, think of some of the things redheads are known for: firey tempers and personalities for one.

Depends on the guy, but many I have dated noticed me in a crowd simply because of my hair!

Yes, honey, some men find redheads extremely attractive! Go get 'em and love your gift of red hair!!!

Tips for dying my hair red/auburn?

Johanna

Okay, so in a couple weeks I decided to dye it a light auburn color like this --
http://www.comparestoreprices.co.uk/images/co/covergirl-auburn-wavy-wig.jpg

But I've heard (from friends who've dyed it red before) that it fades the first couple of weeks. So 'm wondering if I should dye it lighter/deeper so it fades to that color?
Any suggestions or pictures on what color I should get that would fade somewhat close to the picture above?
Or any tips on preserving the color?
Thanks :)

Answer
I dye my hair Auburn all the time and I've found because I straighten it I lose alot of my color. I always get a deep or dark Auburn. If you can't find a dark auburn try a medium Burgandy. It'll fade out and not just go to red like the Auburn color will.

I use Walmart's 3 dollar hair dye. It fades out in a month or so but the hair still stays a reddish color for me for months afterward. I use twice as much as I should use so my hair is saturated well with it. I have very thick hair so I end up brushing my hair lightly while dying to make sure every strand had a good coating of it.

Other tips are leaving it in for 10-15 minutes after the suggested amount of time. Obviously getting a color safe shampoo/conditioner. A big one I've found is that if you rinse with luke warm water instead of hot it holds color better. Make sure for the first week or so you use warm water and not hot water to continue to keep that lovely color.

Like I said earlier, I straighten my hair. I eventually had to go out and find a serum to help save my color from being straightened away. It's great stuff I found at Sallys called Glossing Polish by Proclaim. (Color and heat protection). It has a wonderful smell and if you use just a small amount in your hair, it doesn't leave a really greasy feeling or lots of build up over time. Only warning is that if you do use a bunch you will have hair that is slick and greasy looking. The serum spreads nicely through the hair so you don't always need as much as you think you might. (Made that mistake the first time. Looked like I had wet hair constantly. Didn't stay straight at all) You can always use it right out of the shower and it gives a nice shine and some extra softness to it. I also avoid using a hard brush for a couple days to let the natural oils spread back out between showers.

As far as shampoo/conditioner goes Fructis should be used with care. Some people experience this, some don't. Something about the fruit oils they use in the product end up destroying and drying hair out after a couple months of use. I used to use their "Sleek and shine" line but found that it seemed to be pulling the color out of my hair a lot faster than the other products I used. I personally use the Hydration line from Herbal Essences. Doesn't ruin my color. But if you're gonna go all out they do make shampoo/conditioner that are made specifically for red dyes. And if you're a very "natural" person they make an olive oil conditioner that has a very light smell but is recommended for healthy hair growth, is color safe, and helps build strength back to burnt out hair. It comes out of the bottle looking like Guacamole but works wonders.

My only other warning for dark auburn or burgundy is that if you're not careful and spill it in your bathroom or get spatters anywhere it will look like you were in the bathroom slaying mulberries.

Oh yea, one thing I was once told is to let you hair set with the color for a few days afterward and style only at need. Also to stay away from blow drying right away. Again with the heat damage. And for keeping away split ends caused by the stripping of your hair when you color, make sure you find some kind of leave-in conditioner and apply to your hair once a day or every other day.

Ooo...I almost forgot...a big one. Don't wash your hair every every day. Conditioning is ok but shampoos pull a lot of the natural oils out when it cleans. Try every other day at first until you feel comfortable that the color is staying in.

Ok, I think I'm done. Hope it was helpful. Sorry about the length of the post.

I need hair dye tips!?

Andy

I dyed my hair red about 3 months ago and everyone, including myself, LOVED it! I want to dye it again with the same dye because it lasted a long time, but I want it brighter. If I dye it once, then dye it the next day will it be brighter? Or will it even do anything?
P.S I have dark brown to black hair.

Answer
If you want it brighter, get a brighter shade. Or bleach your hair then dye it red, but when you apply red dye on bleached hair it washes off quickly. I would recommend some Manic Panic hair dye if you plan on bleaching. Good luck!

any suggestions?

Answer
I don't think you should touch a thing!!

you're hair already brings out the beautiful, bright green eyes you have.

you are so pretty!!! don't do anything.

trust me, I speak from experience. I am a natural brunette and when I turned 18 I started dying my hair red (I have brown hair and brown eyes). I just recently went back to my natural brown color and the amount of compliments I got was crazy!! my coworkers went nuts telling me how pretty I was with my natural color back and the guys won't leave me alone (lol-but I have an awesome bf thank goodness). it was really hard and quite expensive for me to get all those years of dying out of my hair plus it damaged my hair too so I had to condition it. highlights require alot of upkeep and that can be expensive too.

I think you are super cute just the way you are!!

hope this helps!!

brown hair w/ red highlights?

-ish

i have curly brown hair and i want to put red in it.
my problem is i dont know what color red,

i dnt want it to be BAM bright red, because i think tht look like "oh thats jst an attention seeking teenager"

but i do want it to be pretty noticable.

also, i dont really like the red that comes off as maroon/purple.

anybody have picture examples?

Answer
I have dark brown hair with natural red highlights. I don't think pictures will do you any good; what you really need to do is go to a professional hairdresser, who specializes in hair colouring, for advice. Your hair dresser can compare different shades of red hair samples with your natural hair colour to determine the best shade that suits both your natural hair colour and complexion. Or you could even have your brown hair lightened, or changed to a darker shade with the appropriate red highlights which would best suit your complexion. That was the advice that I gave a friend of mine who liked my hair and the result was fantastic and really suited her - the hair dresser did a great job! And now she is able to do it herself.

Tell me about Red Hair?

I am doing a project for one of my high school classes, and I wanted to know what you guys think,

The project is about appearance, I chose to do mine on red hair, as I find society judges unfairly upon this hair colour and are rather mean towards people with this hair colour. So would you please answer these questions for me!

1. What are your first impressions on a girl/guy with reddy/auburn hair?
2. What sex does it look better on?
3. Do you find red heads attractive?
4. If so, what do you find most attractive about them?
5, Would you ike to have red hair, yes or no and why?
6. Who is your favorite red head and why?

Thanks :)
I personally feel Red Hair is attractive! I have red hair, however it is starting to go darker, I've been called names, but tbh I dont care cos I am who I am, and aslong as i happy, that is all that counts right?
I think you are lucky yo have it becsue, you have to have very pretty features to carry it off! I think red looks better on girls btw. They always say we get stick because ther jealous, do you think this is true? They say "Two girls walking down the street one a red head one a average blonde, the guy will always notice the red head first" This is true I believe, do we get stick because we get teh most attention,

I dyed my hair twice, it still looks like crap?

Corrine Jo

Okay, my boyfriend convinced me to dye my once-red-turned-auburn hair, blonde.
My natural roots were already showing so I thought, okay why not. Well the blonde dye only dyed my natural roots bright blonde, and my hair was still auburn, so I looked really stupid. I went to the store and got medium brown, and now the ends of my hair are really dark, the top is a lightish-dark brown, and my roots are sandy brown/blonde with an all over red tint!
I bought more hair dye, but I don't want to damage my hair anymore than I already have! It's a little dry, but not anything new since my hair is usually always dry. What do I do? How long should I wait to dye my "problem areas"? Thanks!

Answer
I once had fiery red hair so I can relate, my stylist said that red is one of the hardest colors to get out of hair! I recently just bleached my hair to do that ombré effect and the base is still a little pink since it was lightened a bit to a very subtle honey brown. Once you have red hair it's literally a bitch to get out! Your natural roots are Virgin so they're easy to dye whatever color, and the tips turned dark brown with the medium brown dye because they're more processed, but they also loose the color fastest Here's what I would do:
1. Really take care of your hair. Wash every other day if you can, you can go in the shower with your hair up and wash your body but not your hair, leaving it alone every now and again will help it, like sleep!
2. After you shampoo, try to ring out as much water as possible so the conditioner is more concentrated with less water and leave it in, I usually bring in a big hair clip and let it do it's thing while I scrub or something, and rinse it with cold water! The heat opens up the pores of your hair, so when you condition, the cold water shocks it into closing again so the conditioner doesn't all just wash out.
3. I would wait a few weeks, three? Or two if you don't damage it by applying heat very often (use a heat protectant), I only usually style it when I'm going out.
4. Go get it bleached very lightly by a well trained professional to get rid of any red or brown or hybrid color, this will give you a total fresh start to do whatever you want. Your hair will then be a new canvas, brown, blonde, any color you like, not red obviously. And after you've bleached it, and dyed it, you just keep taking care of it and maybe start applying a hair mask maybe once a week. Keep getting trims every few weeks and maintain it, and you should be good to go. It's best to invest in a good stylist to do a good job once than to spend probably more money trying to do it yourself several times and damaging it more over time. You could also just go to a salon and ask for the best route given your situation and hair texture, ask prices, all that jazz. This is just something I think would happen if you want to start totally fresh and new because there's a difference between store bought generic hair dye and the professional dyes and mixtures.

Where does red hair originate?

CaliGirl14

i heard somewhere there was red hair in ancient Rome. Is that true because i thought red hair just came from the Irish. Does it come from the Romans too? Or any others?

Answer
I had an Italian great grandfather who had very red hair for life, until he went grey. He was northern Italian and we most likely aren't all that related to the Romans. Northern Italians had the Boii Celts living in the Po Valley at one point in history. I have light red/brown hair and so do a lot of people in my family and one of my children has very red hair. It's possible that those particular Celts in Italy, who did later moved on to the Northeast of Europe brought it with them. I don't think anyone knows the answer to this. The Greeks and Roman knew of red headed people all the way from the Ukraine to England. It was probably an Indo European mutation and when the group of people who had that color headed to the northeast of Europe, they brought it with them. They went through Spain first though.

jewish and red hair?

jersey1979

is it common for jewish people to have red hair?

Answer
CAN YOU BELIEVE SOMEONE WROTE THIS "Most of them have black, dark hair. Jew with red hair or even anyone with red hair is just EWW". Grow up, get informed, and stop insulting masses of people in public.

That said...yes there are Jewish people with red hair. Actor/Comedian/Singer/Dancer Danny Kaye was one of these redheads of Jewish descent. Evidently, when Samuel Goldwyn signed him on at this movie studio he made Kaye dye his hair blond because he felt his red hair made him look "too Jewish". Plus, my husband's stepmother and her mother are readhaired Jews.

Why is red hair associated with jewish ancestry in eastern europe?

romascu

I always wondered that---the jewish stereotype here in Romania is having red hair.
The only country that i can think of that has lots of (non-jewish) redheads(in eastern europe) is Russia
From what i've red in america it's the oposite:dark hair, dark features.

Answer
I think American Jews are just as likely to have light brown hair and blue eyes. It depends on where their families came from in Europe. If German, many are light.

I'm glad you said red hair in EASTERN EUROPE. Because there's a very high percentage of redheads in Scotland, about 6% of the population, supposedly the highest in the world. But we've all seen pictures of Australian Aborigines with red hair, so what does this mean? That there are redheads EVERYWHERE.

Question about recessive gene for red hair?

Yikes

My husband has dark brown hair, and I have blonde. How many generations back can a red hair recessive gene go for my daughter to have red hair? My hubby and I do not know anyone in our family within the last 2 generations that have this gene. My grandmother may have had red hair but My dad said she dyed it that color. Dont both parents have to have the gene for our child to have red hair? And will any of our future children have the gene too?
Who says Im bothered with it? I have no problems with her havign red hair, I was just curious on how she got it.

Answer
a recessive gene can go back for centuries, as long as there is a carrier.......... also, its likelihood of 25-50% of having another child with red hair

Will my baby have red hair?

Logans Mom

I have red hair & My boyfriend has red hair , what are the chances of us having a red headed child?

Answer
Your baby will most likely have red hair, if not blond or strawberry blond. Red hair is a recessive gene and can only be expressed if paired up with another recessive gene (another red or blonde gene). Since you and your boyfriend both have red hair that means that both of your genes have two matched recessive genes.

For each trait, there is a genotype and a phenotype. The phenotype is the trait that is expressed, in this case red hair is your phenotype. The genotype is the trait that is carried but not expressed. If your recessive gene were paired up with a dominant gene, the dominant gene will automatically be your phenotype. (Hence the name dominant).

So depending on how things match up, it is possible for two parents with brown hair and brown eyes, to have a baby with blond hair and blue eyes, because both parents can be carrying a recessive genotype that is dominated (brown hair and brown eyes are dominant, blond hair blue eyes are recessive). However it is impossible for two parents with blond hair and blue eyes to have a child with brown hair and brown eyes, because in order to have blond hair and blue eyes, you have to have both two recessive genes, because if you had a dominant gene it would become the phenotype (the gene that is expressed physically)

example
B- Dominant Brown hair
r- Recessive Red Hair

Br = brown hair
BB= brown hair
rr= red hair (no brown hair dominant gene)

So you and your current boyfriend could both be offering rr=red hair. That means there is no possible combination including B. The only possible combination with two rr genes is rr. But there is still a chance that one of you guys are carrying the recessive blond hair genotype (the gene that is not expressed). Thats why they may or may not have blond or strawberry blond hair.

But let's say you married a guy with Brown hair. If he is BB and you are rr, then all of your children will have brown hair because no matter how you match the genes up, there will always be a dominant brown gene in the mix. If he a carrier of a recessive red hair gene and is Br, then you got a 50-50 percent chance that your child will have red or brown hair.

Going from brown to red - best hair color?

Nina

I have medium brown hair, and want a reddish brown shade. I know I'll have to go with a strong red color to phase my dark hair. Any brunettes go red? With at-home color? What did you use?

Answer
Ferria. Its my fave. I find that they make me have really vibrant hair. But yeah if you have lighter brown hair you will tend to have lighter red hair.
Unfortunately red hair tends to fade faster than any other color of hair.

What are some home remedies for dying your hair, like crazy colors? purple, green, blue, red, ect...?

Nicole

i cant afford real hair dye right now so im trying cheap home remedies. i tried kool aid but it surprisingly didnt work. it was super concentrated and i left it in for hours but it still washed out. and ive heard about using food coloring but i heard it also comes out the next time you wash your hair. i want something that will stay in my hair for a few weeks. if you know how to use kool aid and make it stay in hair for a long time then please tell me cause maybe i did it wrong last time. and any other home remedies that you know of would be great. thanks!

Answer
The best at-home thing you can use to dye your hair is Kool-Aid, and it IS a little tricky to get the process down. Red and pink colors work the best.

For short or medium hair, you're going to need at least 10 packets of Kool-Aid, make sure you use the kind that DOES NOT already have sugar added.

Dump the packets out into a bowl and add water ONE DROP AT A TIME until you have a paste. Apply the paste to clean, dry hair.

The paste should be about the same consistency as syrup or honey. After you have applied the mixture to your hair, blow dry your hair on high heat until itâs dry. Itâs going to feel like there is a lot of gel in your hair! When you heat up your hair, you open the hair follicle and allow the color to penetrate. Leave this color on for as long as you are comfortable, but be aware that it will stain almost everything, your pillows, towels, etc.

When you rinse, make sure that you rinse with VERY cold water. If it stains your face, countertops or bathtubs, you can remove the stains by rubbing a paste made of baking soda and water on the stain and then wiping it up with a paper towel.

thanks!

Answer
Go for it girl!
I think it would look great on you!
I'm actually halfway through dying my hair black and red at the moment. I generally have black hair, with a lot of crazy, bright colours these days, and everyone seems to like it. I love it personally. It's creative and original. I'm going for only two at the moment, because I want it to be red and black over Halloween. Before I put the black dye in tonight it was black, bright pale purple, brown, bright pink, bright orange-pink, bright fluoro green, bright pale blue and purple. I've done red and black before, but it'll be all over the place this time =)
You should go for it. do all your tips... if you're game, put some in your fringe. You're beautiful, it'll look great.

Oh, but one thing to keep in mind: your hair is part of your outfit, so when going for colourful hair, it's important to remember that if you care about colour-coding, that when you have obvious red in your hair, you can't wear anything with pink anymore, and if you have pink, you can't wear red.
With my last hair, a whole huge section of my wardrobe that was black and red went into storage, because I refuse to mix pink and black. It get's to come back now...but no more pink tartan miniskirt! Your choice though =).

Asian attitudes towards red hair?

KB

I am going to have the opportunity soon to travel across Asia but there's something that has been puzzling me.

I'm of Irish stock and possessed of long red hair that I generally keep tied back in a ponytail. I've been told in China, I can expect a fairly negative reaction, that red hair is seen as ugly. I've also been told the opposite, that it's seen as new and exciting. I've been told that in Japan, nobody will really care, Thailand I'll probably draw sideways glances but nothing major. The one common theme though seems to be that, whatever reaction I get, it will be extreme because of my hair color.

The trip is going to go through Japan, China, Thailand, Vietnam, and South Korea. I will be going through the cities as well as urban areas.

So, basically, what can an outsider (American) with long red hair expect when traveling through these countries?

Answer
well, people will be curious about it but aside from that they don't care. asian people don't really care much about how others look or about other people's business, they just keep their opinions to themselves and mind their own business. you might get some fanfare from Thai or Viet girls because of your different and radiant hair colour. no red hair's not ugly

makeup for bright red hair?

smile.

hey (: so i have very bright red hair and hazel eyes. i have no idea what to do for makeup now, other than black eyeshadow because ive never had red hair before. so any ideas would be helpful thanks!

Answer
Hey girl,

Start neutral. Staples that look great on everyone are Nars blush in Orgasm or ELF blush from its studio line of blush and contouring powder ($3!) and black mascara -- love the new Lash Blast Fusion from Cover Girl and the Anastasia Lash Lifting Mascar). Start out with neutral, skintone shades. I always love a shimmer skintone shadow on the lid with a matte brown in the crease (I love MAC'S naked lunch with MAC'S cork). For a natural look, wear some brown eyeliner on the upper lashline, but for a night out feel free to break out the black eyeliner and mascara. For a more daring look, metallics work with every shade.

A great way to try out different brow colors without commitment is with tinted mascara or a colored brow tamer like ELFâs Eyebrow Treat and Tame. Aim for one shade darker than your red hair color.

If you dyed your hair from blonde to red, you'll want to warm up your brows, but you'll find you need a little less makeup in general. Skip the pink and red toned blushed and go for orange and copper tones instead.

If you went from brunette to red, you'll probably want to soften your eyebrow color a shade or two (unless you went to a very dark or winey shade of red). You can still use the cheek and lip shades youâre used to, but they will stand out more that they did on you when you were a brunette. Other than that itâs the same as blondes changing to red: Just try on your blush and lipsticks and get reacquainted with how they look on you.

Hope I helped!

Brits red hair color?

KKKKK

Is it true that the Brits May in most red hair color? ( ginger)

What percentage of the UK population are people with red hairs?

What natural hair colors occur in the UK ?

Answer
About Gingers

Red hair is caused by by high levels of a red pigment called pheomelanin and the lacking of a darker pigment called eumelanin. Only 3% of the human population on earth can be classified as having this abnormality and occurs more frequently in north western europeans and their descendants. These pigment levels are caused by the MC1R protein and the way it functions. There are few other ways the gene expresses itself such as the sensitivity to ultraviolet light, freckles and fair skin color. Some studies have found that people who carry this gene are also able to sustain higher pain thresholds from certain types of stimuli.

Redheads in Europe

Redheads make up about 4% of the European population. Northern regions such as with Scotland have the the highest concentration with 13% of the population as considered redheads. Ireland is the second highest with as many as one in 10 people with red, strawberry blond or auburn hair. Geneticists have estimated that up to 46% of the Irish population carries the recessive MC14 gene. It is also found in many other countries in higher numbers such as the Baltic and Nordic countries as well as areas of Belgium, France, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, Russia, Albania and South Slavic countries.

Redheads in United States

The United States has the largest population of red heads anywhere in the world. Anywhere from two to six percent of the population is estimated to have red hair which amounts to a population of 6 to 18 million individuals. While the overall percentage may be lower then other countries, the shear population of the United States makes up for it. This is far more then the approximately 650,000 in Scotland and 420,000 in Ireland combined.

Redheads in Asia

Red hair can be sometimes found among those with Iranian decent such as the Lurs or Pashtuns of the middle east. The birth rate of red heads is far lower then most areas of the world with Red hair appearing sporadically in Northern India and the Middle east. Darker of mixed tingers of red hair can be found in rare instances on the Island of Hirado, Japan and the South Pacific.

What color red would look best with my skin tone?

Jennifer

I'm thinking about dyeing my hair red, but what color would look best on me? I was thinking maybe an orange-ish color, but I don't want to do it unless I'm sure it will look good..

Here's a picture of me. (this is not my natural color, my natural color is like a light brown/ash blonde-ish color) http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/nn160/importantstuffj/yh3.jpg

Answer
a dark, auburn color would look very natural on you! you have pink undertones so red hair won't look "fake" you should get a red thats a couple of shades darker than emma stone.

My red hair is fading!?

HeyThereDe

ok so im not the "traditional" ginger. Im not pale, I can tan if I want to. I do have freckles but they are mainly on my elbows and knees(I know im weird). My moms hispanic and my dads Scottish/English. in fact im the only one in my family with red hair for 4 generations! when I was little my hair was orangy-red, but now my hair is very very dark red almost copper. I would say it looks like when emma stone had red hair THAT dark. anyway since I have no family members with red hair I don't know how dark my hair will go! all I know I don't want to have black hair when I get older- no offense I just really love my red hair its one of the things that I think makes me unique. do you think my hair color will completely be gone when I get older. Im 15 now

Answer
Your hair may darken as you get older but no, the red will not completely fade unless you color is otherwise, as long as you stay away from dye that cancels out red tones then you should be fine. :)

London, Feb 20, 2013 I've been saying that since 2009.
Hair dyes, which include home hair colouring kits and those used at pricey salons, are linked to deadly cancer-causing chemicals, warn scientists. In 2009 the Mail revealed that women who used hair dyes more than nine times a year had a 60% greater risk of contracting blood cancer.
A year later the European Commission banned 36 hair dyes which put long-term users at risk of bladder cancer. < < < <â¨

The chemical is not new and is present in a number of brands of dark hair colours, acting to help adhere the dye to the hair so that it doesn't wash out. Itâs made from coal tar and is used in both permanent and semi-permanent hair colours. Itâs well-known to be a cause of serious allergic reactions -- including something called contact dermatitis which can lead to rashes, blisters, and open sores.
PPD is sometimes added to black henna tattoos and that using them is not safe. Allergic reactions usually begin within two to 10 days following application. One bad reaction can lead to sensitivities to other products such as hair dye, sunblock and some types of clothing dyes. Oftentimes, it's using the product a second or third time. Skin specialist Najjia Ashraf reveals that there are barely any dyes that donât contain this toxin; even the ones who claim they donât, are not being honest. âBig brands often escape the blame by suggesting they are ammonia-free. However, ammonia and PPD are two very different things and PPD is present in nearly every dye because it is what gives off the colour,â she explains.

I have medium brown hair kinda ashy with some gold. I want to temporarily dye it this color to try it out.
http://static.thehollywoodgossip.com/images/gallery/demi-lovato-red-hair-pic.jpg

Can I get this color with demi or semi permanent hair dye? Also, it is summer now but my school doesn't allow unnatural colors so could I easily dye it an auburn color for school? Would you consider this unnatural? Also what brands do you recommend?

Answer
you must bleach first . i wanted hair red too. like that color. but then i didnt bleach it and i messed everything up. its not unnatural. its pretty. at least in my opinion. DONT get loreal. gave me an allergic reaction. or maybe thats just me. but loreal has nice colors. get john frieda or revlon. but i really dont recommend this color for dark hair colors because bleaching seriously fries your hair. i definitely recommend revlon luminista for other colors. its designed for dark hair to make it a lighter color.

I have milk chocolate skin, or medium brown with dark brown eyes. I was thinking maybe like a brunette brown or a Chocalate brown?

Answer
red hair is the rarest hair color and most common with blue or green eyes. Dark brown would be a double take. Yes, people will SAY its best with pale skin, but Rihanna has hazel eyes, darker skin and bright Rex hair and was voted sexiest woman of the year.

Alternatively a light/dark combination of hair and eyes are nice. Blue-Black is nice too, against brown on the color wheel, not only your eyes but your skin.

I guess it depends on what kind of person you are, you could even get a natural red; But we only have one life where we have physical hair right?

Embrace your wild side IMO.

Professionals are so annoying. Jeez, I've been doing my own hair my whole life and when I finally went to a salon they messed it up really horribly and I paid 120. Anyways you can do one of two things. Sally's has little kits with the bleach and red color and everything and it is very red and it is all you will need and it's only like 10 bucks or you can get a hi-color from L'oreal also at Sally's which won't be as RED but it will be a pretty vampire red. Very easy and you won't need to spend a bunch of money some hawty tawdy stylist. Trust me anything a stylist can do you can do for cheaper and better with practice =)

Why is my hair color so light?

Ranaway12

I'm 13 years old, about to turn 14 next week. I'm Korean, but my hair color isn't black or dark brown like other Asians. In the sunlight, it looks red-ish and a really light shade of brown; and in artificial light, its just really brown with strands of yellow and red hair. When there isn't a lot of lighting it's just brown. Everyone thinks that I dyed my hair that color, although I didn't. I never dyed my hair before. My hair's always the lightest out of my Asian friends, even some of the ones that did dye their hair.

Why is it so light? I thought it's genetic, but then my brother's hair isnt as light, although it's not dark either. Both my mom and my dad's hair are normal. Is it a mutation or lack of vitamins or is it just sun-bleached? During the summer and the fall I would spend a lot of time outside.
@Jay: Then how come my other Korean friends don't have hair like mine? I live in an area where 25% of the school population are Korean. No one else has hair like mine.

Answer
it means nothing

I knew a 100% Korean kid that looked half white until he got older

my sister had hair like yours and it got darker... it means nothing.

What color will my hair turn if I use red dye on black hair?

Q. my hair has previously been dyed red, and it shows up with a reddish tint, but do you think dying it the same color would gradually make the color appear noticably?

Answer
If you have black hair, your hair will look black, and have a gorgeous red gleam in sunlight. You could bleach out some highlights and dye them red to really make it all pop.

how many washes for red hair colour to wash out on natural black hair?

.

i don't know if its permanent, semi or demi or whatever. s: i just got it done today. so i got my tips coloured red on my natural black hair. no bleach or toner. but something with a up lift colour, or something along that. i have two weeks of my school holidays left and i was just wondering how many washes it takes for it to wash out. it doesn't have to be completely gone, it's just i go to a private school and yoou know. ><
thanks in advance. (:

Answer
it won't wash out completely but it'll just fade. Maybe you should try putting a dark warm brown rinse (semi-permanent color) to cover it. you'll still have an ombre color affect on your hair but the red will be toned down.

Is red the rarest hair color?

Q. Just wondering. I heard that pure black was, because asians don't have PURE black. So just want to know.
Thanks :)

Answer
yes, red hair is actually considered a MUTATION. It is extremely rare to have natural red hair. if your parents have red hair there is about a 6% chance you would have it. 5% chance if it's happened before with your siblings. and about 1% if your parents DON'T have red hair. red hair is completely random.this seems ridiculous and made up ,but luckily i just learned about it in science :) people in UK, Republic of Ireland, and Australia. All in all only FOUR PERCENT of people have red hair!
Hope I helped!
Love ya

Best Semi-Permanant Bright Red Hair Dye?

Mei Monste

I wanted to dye my hair bright red with a semi-permanant hair dye. I DON'T want to bleach my hair, and my current hair color is golden brown. I just want to know your opinions on the best color and, well, best hair dye over all.

*Also, it doesn't matter that much if it fades quickly because I'll just re-dye it. *
oh and it would be helpful if you could tell me how long it does stay in, the price, and where i can get it.
thanks!:)

Answer
Definitely Crazy Colour by Renbow in "Fire".
I used it on gingery brown hair and it went really bright red.

100ml bottles only cost between £1.99 and £2.50 (here in the UK anyway, in the US I think you can get it for about $3), and if you follow the directions exactly (use on damp hair, not dry!) the colour stays in for at least a few weeks.
When it does fade/wash out, it's so cheap to re-dye that it doesn't really matter!

70s clothing, hair, and makeup?

chinado

I was recently invited to a "70s party".
We have to dress in 70s clothing, hair, and makeup.
Can any one give me some tips on 70s fashion.. or a good website where I could get this information? please, do not tell me to google it.
I am thinking about wearing jeans.
What was the style, bell bottoms?
Thanks :)
â¥
p.s. Just in case I decide to wear a skirt.. were they long...short.. or inbetween?

Answer
Believe it or not, a lot of what was in style in the 70's has made a come-back and is often incorporated into the styles of today. Long straight hair (only difference in the 70's it was parted straight down the middle of the forehead and often women wore headbands, hippies anyway), bell bottoms, (called flare jeans today) the bell bottoms of the 70's were a bit more exagerated. Skirts were short, sometimes long, depending on the look you were going for. Boots were worn with long skirts. Loafers, scarfs, big sunglasses. A lot of earthy tones, browns, oranges, dull greens. Plain, plaid or flowery patterns. Also, big brown leather purses. Overall, things were general bigger in the 70's as accesories have become more compact and aerodynamic today. Makeup was generaly the same, although is is more subtle today. Shiny red or earthy toned lipsticks were popular along with eyeliner underneath the eyes, also blush was used a lot.
