Temporary red hair color?

Elizabeth

A few months ago I dyed my hair red, using the Gariner Nutrisse Light Intense Auburn Color For Darker Hair. Well due to the fact that the red hair color is hard to keep, I dyed my hair a natural black to cover it up. I've only dyed my hair black twice since then. There is still a red undertone and my hair has faded quite a bit. Im wondering if I use the Light Intense Auburn again, if it will work? Im going as Ariel from the Little Mermaid for Halloween, so I'd like red hair. I've only seen one review for this product on black hair, so Im iffy about using it again. If it doesn't work, Im wondering if there is a temporary red hair color that will go over the black easily. I tried the colored hair spray but it didn't even show up against it. I'd rather not wear a wig. Haven't found on that I like, and if I have, I couldn't afford it. Any help would be really appreciated.
I also do not want to use bleach on my hair. I had damaged hair trying to keep the red color, my hair just got back to being healthy.

Answer
I used a L'oreal Hi Color Excellence in Red to get my hair red, which would be the perfect Ariel red.

That product is meant for people with dark hair. I used it over dark brown hair (almost black) and it worked like a charm. Minimal to no damage.

Color Hair Spray Help?

J.O.

Okay, so I've dyed my hair numerous times. Enough times to learn the hard way that color never stays in very long after showers, especially red (which is what I have now). I want to use this "B wild! Temp' ry Color Spray" by Jerome Russel. But one of the bad things about color hair spray is that it gets stiff and you can't brush through it and it sometimes looks really un-natural. Has anybody used this color hair spray? And is it okay to use it over my highlights? Thank you internet people.

Answer
I've never tried colored hair spray, but if you didn't know already, red hair dye is the hardest to maintain. It fades faster and it's recommended that you wash it in cold water and to mix some of the dye you used in your shampoo.

At any rate, you can always find a small part of your hair, perhaps that's under your hair and spray some at the ends to see if it becomes stiff and crunchy. If it's not permanent and it becomes like that, you could always wash it out and your entire head wouldn't be effected, just that small area.

Why does my hair pull red when I darken it using an Ash color?

proudMAMAo

I am naturally a level 7 or 8, and very cool toned. I have my hairstylist color my hair with highlights and lowlights and the lowlights always look slightly red even when using an Ash color. Also my hair doesnt darken as most would think so do get my lowlights at what should be a level 7 we use a 5 or 6. Even my hairdresser is baffled as to why my hair pulls so much red and doesnt darken as it should.
The hair that pulled red is 100% natural hair, I had not put any color on my hair in at least 8 months and the redness is throughout those natural roots that grew in.

Answer
Perhaps you still have residual hair color underneath that once pulled red or orange and since you haven;t gotten rid of it, it's still under there.

You have the options of having your colorist let the low-light be much more ash and sit on there longer (running the risk of it turning grayish or green) BUT.....if they at least freaking try, since your hair pulls red, it might just work. I DARED the 4th stylist who wouldn't listen to me, do this and VOILA - it worked!)

Orrrrrrrrrr - last resort, have her bleach the hair and lift the color, and then start from scratch with whatever shade of ash you want. Much more damaging on your hair - but it will be stripped of all color that was on there before.

Hairstylists please help!!! Hair color problem?

Ok, so a few months ago I dyed my hair with 3N permanent color (I used 20 vol. developer) then I absolutely hated it (go figure) and missed my blonde hair so she did a few foils which lightened some of the color, but it wasn't really what I wanted so I started bleaching high lights in (the high lights all ended up being around a 7G). Then today I had an appointment with my stylist to get my hair back to somewhere around a level 8N - she used the Pravana Color extractor which took most of the color out but left my hair tinted kind of orange-y and then she put color over it and I'd say it's probably a level 5N now :/
What can I do to get it back to a level 8 in a week or two (I can't afford to keep going to a stylist).
Please help.
Thanks yoohoo gal
Are there any deep conditioners you can recommend that don't need a dryer (I don't have one)?
I currently use a deep conditioner from K-Pak by Joico and also ER Fusion by White Sands once a month...
and I switch my regular shampoo's and conditioners from L'Anza Anti Aging and Pureology NanoWorks every couple of weeks
Oh, and do you think that using a clarifying shampoo a couple times a week would help fade the color faster???

Answer
You need to use scalp bleach, bring it up to a level 9 which is just past removing any red or gold tone. Then condition preferably under a dryer with a very deep protien conditioner then redeposit an 8N. Only add a little (1oz) of 8A. Only if you have any gold left. Mix these with 20 Vol Developer. Make sure you do several deep conditioning treatments. no more than 2 a week because scalp bleach can be very dry and damaging to the hair.

Coloring Dark Hair Red?

Mrs.Mann

I would like to color my dark brown hair into a vibrant red. Do I have to use bleach to lift the color a bit and then apply the red? What is the best way to getting the most vibrancy out of the haircolor? Thank you in advance!
Perhaps I should have stated that Im looking for serious answers and not someone to come on here and degrade me or my PERSONAL choices.

Answer
I think it depends on if you hair is currently dyed and just how vibrant you want it. If your hair isn't already colored in any way and you want to use a basic drug store vibrant red like these: http://clairol.com/herbalessences/vibrant/shade_palette_red.jsp you could just use it without bleaching it. I have lightened my naturally black hair to a bright red many times as long as it doesn't already have dye in it. If you already have a brown dye in it or want a super bright fire engine red, I would suggest going to a salon so that they can do it for you because it will require a multi-step process.

hair Color?

sweet brun

I was just wondering if an 8n on the hair color chart is pretty light. If I do this color will it look really light or darker than just plain bleach.

Answer
8N is considered light blonde but much darker than bleached to platinum... if you are using it on natural hair color then you must consider what your natural level is first ( i.e. natural chestnut brown hair is a level 3 or 4 with warm highlight using a level 8N with the correct strength developer will end up as level 6 or 7 redish brown/brassy) ... store bought products can only lift natural pigment 3 levels at most but usually less... and using an N series ( N denotes neutral) then you are not being provided with any drabbing so the results will have red or gold ( brassy) undertones... if you are using over previously lightened hair then you may flatten out the color... if the hair is porous you can bet there will some drabbing as well
I think you should go to a colorist and have a consultaton before you make a mistake

Color enhancers for colored hair?

Dena

So i dyed my hair red and it looks like its gotten darker. So what products can i use to enhance the color in my hair?? Ill like it to stay on the cheap side. Thx

Answer
Tressa Watercolors shampoo is the be-all-end-all for red hair, in my opinion. I don't know what I'd do without it.

They have 3 different shades for redheads; Liquid Copper with an orange base for more orange red shades from levels 5-9, Fluid Fire has a straight red base for bright reds levels 3-8, and Crimson Splash has a red with blue base for dark cool reds like magenta and mahogany levels 2-7. I have naturally blonde roots and this stuff actually puts a nice tint on them so that I don't have to re-dye them as quickly anymore. It's amazing.

I like to leave it in for 4-5 minutes when I wash my hair to add some extra kick to my color, and boy does my hair look like a bright coppery orange when I rinse it out! I paid around $19 for my newest bottle but it lasts a pretty long time since you aren't supposed to use it every single time you wash your hair. I use it maybe once or twice every two weeks and a little bit of it goes a long way since it lathers up really nicely. If you have a salon in your city that carries it you can probably get it cheaper, but I have to order online.

If you have painted nails or acrylic nails, you'll want to wear gloves when you use it, because it stains them pretty easily from the color in the shampoo.

the mentalist quotes..........?

Skattled

i am looking for good quotes from the tv show "the mentalist" it stars simon baker i believe.
if you could help that would be fabulous.
also good screen shots from the show would be great also!

Answer
QUOTES:

1. From "red hair and Silver Tape" (Episode 2)

(Patrick Jane [Simon Baker] and Teresa Lisbon [Robin Tunney] in conversation)

Patrick:
(making a call on his cell phone) "Hi. I made a booking for two for this afternoon. Could you put us on the terrace? It's more romantic. Thanks"... (ends phone call then looks at Teresa) "Don't fret, I wouldn't seduce you over a meal. That'd be very sophomoric."
Teresa:
"I didn't think you were trying to seduce me."
Patrick:
"Come on, how could that thought not have entered your head?"
Teresa: (stares speechlessly at Patrick)
Patrick:
"Your denial that it did intrigues me."
Teresa:
"Bite me."

2. From "Red Hair and Silver Tape" (Episode 2)

(Patrick Jane [Simon Baker] and Frankie O'Keefe [Dylan Minnette] in brief but telling exchange)

Patrick:
"I've a daughter that would be about your age if I hadn't caused her death... her and her mother."
Frankie:
"How?"
Patrick:
"Out of arrogance... stupidity. I made an evil man very angry and he killed them to teach me a lesson. To make me sorry for what I've done... and I am sorry. Being sorry is far worse punishment than being dead, everybody dies... very few people ever feel truly sorry for the bad things they've done."

3. From Pilot (i.e., Episode 1)

(Grace Van Pelt [Amanda Righetti] is reading a note placed under Patrick Jane's [Simon Baker] hotel room door.)

Grace reading:
"Greetings old friend, it's been a while. I hope you are keeping well. I am thriving and happy. I have 12 wives now and will soon begin courting number 13. Why can't you catch me? You must feel so powerless and stupid and sad. Oh well. All the best. Red John"

4. From "Flame Red" (Episode 9)

(Ben Machado [Danny Nucci] and Kimball Cho [Tim Kang] in brief exchange)

Ben:
"I didn't know you guys were cops."
Kimball:
"You thought we were selling magazine subscriptions?"

5. From "Red Brick and Ivy" (Episode 10)

(Patrick Jane [Simon Baker] and Teresa Lisbon [Robin Tunney] talking about interviewing a suspect)

Patrick:
"Let's keep it casual to start with Sophie [Dr. Sophie Miller played by Elisabeth Röhm]. Let her relax. If she gets her guard up, we'll get nothing from her."
Teresa:
"You're very combative all of a sudden."
Patrick:
"Yeah, if she is guilty, she lied to me and I believed it. She fooled me."
Teresa:
"The ultimate sin."
Patrick:
"Yes it is."

Why do bioligist belive that gingers will be gone in the year 2060?

blake

Answer
According to genetic scientists redheads are becoming rarer and could be extinct in 100 years.
The current National Geographic magazine reports that less than 2 per cent of the world's population has natural red hair - created by a mutation in northern Europe thousand of years ago.
Global intermingling, which broadens the availability of possible partners, has reduced the chances of redheads meeting and so producing little redheads of their own.
Although it takes only one red-haired parent to produce ginger babies, two redheads obviously creates a much stronger possibility.
Some experts warn redheads could be gone as early 2060, but others say the gene can be dormant in the reproductive system for generations before returning.
National Geographic says the gene at first had the beneficial effect of increasing the body's ability to make vitamin D from sunlight. However, today's carriers are more prone to skin cancer and have a higher sensitivity to heat and cold-related pain.

Why are redheads gonna take over the world one day?

Steve

And in the battle for supremacy, who will win, the redheads or the ants?

Answer
Actually, I recently read that they are vanishing and will be extinct by 2060. Having red hair is a recessive gene. However, that finding is now being disputed as to the date. So in any event...not likely. The ants will bury us all.

i got the beyond brunette kind and i haven't used it before so i need to know some stuff before i use it,will this stuff damage ur hair or turn ur hair red.i have dark brown hair and ive been using the suave brillant brunette shampoo and conditioner

Answer
i've gotten colored shampoos before, and they don't change the color or damage it. it protects your color and has ingredients that will enhance your natural brunette color.

i'm excited to hear that they finally made a line for colored hair thou. i love sunsilk, and i've been waiting for it

Why do people only focus on Blonde, Brunette, and red hair color... Never Black?

hellokitty

On some commercials like they sell shampoos that, boost your color in your hair, but they only make them for like Blonde brunette or rednead. Ever saw someone will long jet black hair thats naturl ? Awsome
I didnt know... But naw still yall im talking about jet jet jet night night black hair. When I think of brunette hair im only thinking of brown hair with highlights. Im not talking about ethic hair or anything. Mabye the color of indian hair. Really Black

Answer
Because in the color world, Black is not an interesting color by itself (I am not saying it's not pretty), it's just not "faceted" like reds, browns and blondes. There is so much more dimension in the above mentioned colors, so it really showcases all the tones of the color and the cut.

At all the trade shows, red hair color is "HOT", very popular, and always a new red being introduced. In the color world it's the hardest color to keep looking great, it's also the hardest color to remove.

I have black hair and I get highlights every now and then to break it up and add dimension.

But, black hair is in the brunette category, it's just a darker brunette.

And, yes Black hair IS Beautiful!

Looking for a natural orange/light-medium copper hair color?

Its Not Me

I want to dye my hair; my hair is a darker strawberry blonde. I'm looking to dye it anywhere from light/bright copper orange to light/medium auburn. I want to look like a redhead, but not a deep burgundy red.
I'm also looking for a dye that's semi-permanent, and/or one that doesn't have lots of harsh chemicals (ammonia-free if possible?)
Plus tell me where to find them?thank you

looking for a particular shade of red hair dye?

YaniMyd

I want to dye my hair a dark brownish red.
nothing too unatural looking. I prefer darker shades but not too dark that you cant see it's red.

can you provide a picture or at home hair dye product with the name of the colour?
Also, do i have to bleach my hair lighter before dying it red because my hair is almost jet black right now?

Thank youâ¥

Answer
Try Loreal Excellence Creme 4R Dark Auburn or Loreal Healthy Look 6R Reddish Brown.
You won't have to bleach your hair, but the results won't be as dramatic because of your black hair.
Go to a store like Target or Walmart, and look at the hair coloring kits. Find the color you like, and look at the side of the box. There should be a chart of what your hair will look like after you dye your natural hair color (black, dark brown, etc.). However, some colors aren't recommended for some hair colors so double-check to make sure your black hair is suitable for the dye you are looking for.
Hope this helps! Good luck! :)

Need professional advice on hair colour/extensions please...?

Dione

I purchased Foxy Locks extensions in Mahogany (like cheryl cole) here is the link for colour

http://foxylocksextensions.com/item_47/Deluxe-20-Clip-In-Remy-Human-Hair-Extensions-Mahogany-Red-33.htm

I got them on ebay as they were cheap and thinking I could dye my own hair the same colour, except my hair is dark brown/red and the extensions are a lot lighter so I think i would have to bleach my hair which is too much time and money and I'd love to be able to wear my extensions on xmas day, so to be safe (and as I cannot afford a hairdresser) can I dye my hair and extensions the same colour with hair dye from a shop and if so what would be best to use to get both an even same colour, which brand, what colour, semi or permanent? please help, thank you

Answer
I used L'oreal Casting Creme Gloss dye, in Black Cherry, and its SORTA-ish kinda turned out red. Its really, really, dark red, but in certain lights in nice. Its just to dark for me. HOWEVER, when I first did it, I left it on five mins shorter, and it was like that colour. But if you went darker, it would look like mahogonay highlights :)
Or, ofc, you could just get the mahogony casting creme gloss. :) it leaves you hair sleek and shiny! :D

Are babies born with red hair??

Q. or is it blonde first and then go red??

Answer
I was born with red hair, and then it turned blond when I was about 2, go figure. Actually, the real answer is that babies can be born with any hair color, and it can change or stay the same. My husband was born with red hair, and it's still red to this day. My father had red hair until he was in his mid-thirties and then it turned dark brown!

The fact of the matter is that scientists have yet to pinpoint the gene(s) responsible for hair changing colors, and why it can happen at all kinds of different ages. It is widely accepted, though, that hair changing color drastically is in itself genetic (my father and I both had hair that changed color drastically although at different times in our lives). So, if anyone in the mother or fathers family's had the "hair color change" phenomenon, then it is possible it will change. Then again, it may not.

Will my baby have red hair?

marleyy

I have auburn hair (red/brown) and my boyfriend has red hair. Does that mean we will have a red headed baby? Neither one or my parents has red hair but I think my boyfriends dad had red hair. Also I have brown eyes and he has blue eyes. Will my baby be more likely to have brown Or blue eyes? by the way I am expecting I am 21 weeks pregnant.

Answer
the fact you both have red hair dose not mean your children will, my birthdad has red hair my birthmam has blonde/brown and I ended up with very very dark brown.

Hair and eye colour are not ganetical although people think they are, I found this out when I studied them in my hair and makeup qualifactions.

Make-up colors for brown-red hair and slate-gray eyes?!?

bookworm12

Whenever I wear makeup, especially eye-shadow, it makes the skin under my eyes look like it doesn't match the rest of my skin.

It's really difficult for me to find colors that accentuate my eyes without making the skin under them look gray/blue, too. No good going around looking like I have a permanent bruised eye!

If I wear the wrong shade of pink eye-shadow, it clashes with my hair, too...

Any suggestions?

Thank you! :)

Answer
Use copper tinged lipstick.
Use copper shade of blush.
Green eyeshadow is beautiful for brown-red hair.
Place a small amount of green eyeliner on your bottom eyelid.
You could go extreme by using a eggshell color as well.
Copper eyeshadow is also very, very attractive. It is my favorite shade to mix and blend, makes the eyes look good, no matter what color.
Your color doesn't have to actually match the rest of your skin. Just go head and draw attention to your eyes.

Slate-gray eyes - most people would suggest going with light blues or light grays, but I believe you probably have already done that.
I have a brown eye and a blue eye, really, so I quit worrying about the colors a long time ago.
Don't be afraid to experiment. Yes, by all means, stay away from pink for your blush. Agree with you about that.

I am sure you will get an answer from hairdresser (a name on line) who will give you all sorts of tips but you cannot email her and she claims to be an expert, so....just letting you know.

Will my daughter have red hair? What color eyes?

Laniah

My husband had red/orange hair and eyes that change from green/hazel/blue, I have light brown/blonde and light blue eyes. But all of my fully biological sisters have some kind of red hair (red red, orange, strawberry). I want to know how likely it is that my daughter has red hair and what is the plausable eye color?

Answer
You carry the recessive gene for red hair, and a dominant blonde. Your husband carries two recessive for red hair, so there is a 50/50 chance of her having red hair. As for eyes, his are likely hazel with a different varient, you have double recessive light blue, so there is a very low chance of blue eyes, more likely to be Hazel.

Can I dye light red / orange hair black without bleaching first?

christa an

I dyed part of my hair firetruck red a while ago and I just recently ran out of red dye. I bleached it first, of course, and I was wondering- Could I dye it black or very dark brown without bleaching it? Just tell me how it would turn out if I did that and suggest what I should do. Thanks!
Oh, another question. Does this mean that I could dye it any color as long as it was darker as well? Because I'd rather do a deep purple than black...

Answer
I think you'll have no problem dyeing your hair black, even if its bright red. bleaching is just to make hair lighter, but if your going dark, it shouldn't matter. ;)

How can I dye my Hair red Naturally without bleach?

Q. My mom said I can't Dye my with the stuff at the store.
I want red hair and my hair is blonde now and I don't like Blonde much.
Any suggestions on how to Dye my hair naturally red without bleach.
Tell me the materials and I'll highly appreciate it! :D
thanks guys! ^^

Answer
you can dye your hair with henna. it is natural and made from vegetables. it is harmless, however every person's hair comes up a little differently... but i mean that happens with chemical hair dyes anyway.
Henna is actually alot better for your hair anyway, as using it, it makes your hair shiny, healthy and strong.

what colour i want to go-

http://rich2.net/cat/me/red%20hair.jpg

my skin is not usually that pink by the way
if not red then could you give me some pictures of a colour you think i should go?? thanks

Answer
I think the red would look great on you. However, keep in mind that the red dye molecule tends to be smaller than other colors which is why it tends to fade so fast. Also, because you've bleached your hair, even though it looks healthy, your hair is going to be very porous. This will lead to your hair color (if you choose to dye a different color) to bleed out fairly quickly.

I used to change my hair color twice to three times a week a long time ago...I used bleach and various box colors...so I know from personal experience what chemicals can do to your hair.

Bleaching tends to kill the shine on hair. This is because the bleach breaks down the cuticle on the hair shaft. The cuticle is like tiny little scales. When the scales lay flat and in alignment our hair is shiny. When we use chemicals or heat, the scales raise and be broken off, causing damaged hair. Silicone found in almost all hair products can help with shine because it lays down on the hair shaft creating a smoother surface.

If you want to go red, I'd suggest taking a peak at Hennaforhair.com. They sell pure henna, with no additives or metallicc salts. Henna gets a bad rep because some henna isn't pure. It has other additives that cause allergic reactions from PPD ("black" henna) ormetallicic salts.(added to affect final color). None of which is good for the hair, or body!

Henna, or Lawsonia Inermis, is a plant that grows in India, Pakistan, Egypt, and so on. They harvest the leaves, dry them in the sun, and finally grind them into a fine powder. The leaves contain a natural plant dye in it called Lawsone. It is a red orange color. You can mix the powder with warm water (or a million different concoctions), let the dye release, and apply it to your head. Usually it's best to cover the head with a plastic cap and leave on for at least an hour, but four is better. When you wash it, and let it dry, it will look a little orange at first. But the Lawsone molecule will oxidize over the next three days, slowly darkening some. It sounds complicated, but it's really not. The best part of all is that henna actually strengthens and thickens your hair. And it's permanent. It doesn't wash out like chemical reds do. Lawsone is permanent until you cut it out. The more henna treatments you do, the more darker your red will be. If you go red, I'd highly recommend buying some henna from hennaforhair.com. She looks at her henna under a microscope to make sure there isn't any sand, dyes or anything else that's typically added to boxed henna. If you are still curious, you can check out longhaircommunity.com and look for The Henna Thread. There is a ton of info there about henna from members who have used it. I use it, and I love it. In the sun it shimmers like fire. :) I hope that helps! :)

What is the best possible brand of RED HAIR DYE?

Tristen

I want to dye my hair red, but i want to use a brand that's effective and kind of bright.

Also i'd like to know approx. how long it lasts, where i can find it if i live in upstate New York, and around how much money. ****IF POSSIBLE!!!!!!
Yes, this would be the first time dying my hair

Answer
The best hair dye for red hair that you can do yourself (and trust me I have tried it all) is WELLA color charm from Sallybeautysupply.com. Red hair is so hard to keep from fading, Wella does not fade. I am going on more than a month with 0 fading. I am also washing my hair every 2 to 3 days and washing with a red depositing shampoo with cold water. I am using red blaze and I love it, they have the most gorgeous reds. If this is your first time going red I would suggest a protein filler also at sallys in RED RED. It will help you get a more even color. Happy Coloring :)

Will my hair grow back red if I keep dying my roots?

misfit19

My short hair is light brown and the product or bleaching black hair.. Since it's bleached a lot it doesn't hold any red colour, it fades after a few washes
My roots are very dark dirty mouse blonde so if I keep dying my re growth red will it grow back as a good red shade?

Answer
RED is the fastest color to fade.

If you keep dyeing your roots, there are MANY side effects to chemicals, others die or go in a coma dyeing their hair.

Style meets chemistry meets biology: We're talking hair coloring.

Playing with chemicals is not like playing with clothes, or doing a manicure, there are penalties for playing chemicals in the lab. Even hair color experts at the salon are not rocket scientists, they do a bang up dye jobs to their clients or their own hair.

The chemical is not new and is present in a number of brands of dark hair colours, acting to help adhere the dye to the hair so that it doesn't wash out. PPD is sometimes added to black henna tattoos and that using them is not safe. Allergic reactions usually begin within two to 10 days following application. One bad reaction can lead to sensitivities to other products such as hair dye, sunblock and some types of clothing dyes. Oftentimes, it's using the product a second or third time.

Bleaching my red hair?

IVXIXXI

I bleached my hair last weekend and then dyed it red. My hair is naturally black. I missed spots while bleaching and didn't notice. I proceeded to dye my hair. I noticed when I was done dying. I need to fix it. So should I bleach my whole Head and just dye it over. Or should I just bleach and dye the black spots. What if a different tone comes out? What would you do?

Answer
Don't bleach again! I don't know what your hair type is, but most people's hair can't deal with that kind of treatment & it could wreck your hair & make it look even more uneven since it will lighten the parts that are already light, and bring out some weird colors that you can't anticipate.

Don't try spot bleaching either. You'll just end up with spots since there is a very good chance your hair tone won't come out the same way twice. Bleaching hair is affected by the time you leave it in, how much you use, how oily/dry your hair is that day, and even just temperature. Getting it exactly right would be difficult for someone to do at home.

I really hate to say this, but unless you can wait until your hair is ready for an all out, bleach it 'till it's 100% blonde session (which I would wait about 2 months for, personally but it's different for everyone) you should really go to a professional. They might not be able to completely fix it if it's too far gone, but they have to deal with that sort of thing all the time and most of them are trained at dealing with tricky hair situations & can reach spots/watch pieces of hair for color changing that you aren't even capable of. Plus, salons usually have more supplies at hand, so if they need to use different types of bleach to pull out different levels of dye/natural color, they can... whereas at home, you pretty much have one or two choices before it starts getting expensive.

If a salon isn't an option, I'd just dye it all back to black. That's about the only thing that will cover it up completely. Then I'd try again a few months later when your hair feels normal again.

Sorry if this isn't the advice you were hoping for. :/ Hair sucks

red hair to Blonde??

Jaymie M

I just dyed my hair from red to blonde, but unfortunately some strands didn't take and now I am left with dark red on the top, and lighter red/blonde on the bottom and it looks bad. I have a box of medium blonde hair dye that I can dye my hair with again to even out the lighter strands, but I was wondering what will happen to the red on top? Thanks!
What would happen if I dyed my hair the medium blonde though?

Answer
I recently went from red to blonde too. I noticed that you said dyed. To get an even color through out your hair you need to bleach it first using a number 30 or 40 developer depending on how dark you hair is. Since you already died your hair blonde i would recommend using a number 30. Start by putting the bleach on the darkest parts of your hair and lightest last that way when your hair is processing your darker pieces will have more time to process. Also when applying the bleach make sure to do it quickly so that the hair comes out evenly, I suggest having some one do it for you so that all the hair is covered. While processing keep a plastic bag over your head so the heat doesn't escape. After you finished bleaching die your hair the color blond you'd like. Make sure your hair is wet, the die will take better. As for dieing you hair medium blonde right now the red on the top of your hair might lighten a bit but not very much.

Hair Color?

Ricky

I have a question. Some days my hair will be light brown and other days it will be dark brown and almost look unhealthy(like its got a grayish tint to it). The best way I can describe it is that it wants to try to be light brown lol. Now when I was little my hair was light brown and has been untill this wierd phase started. I use the same shampoo everyday so thats not it. Also some days it will appear lighter when my hair is dirty kinda the oppisite of what it should be.

What can I do to keep it always light brown? Whats going on here? Also I have been told I have the softest hair around. So it's not like my hair is dieing. Also the hair on my legs is still light brown.

Answer
Grayish tint huh? That's what happened to me before. I think it could be a result of damage from the sun and chlorine, at least that was the theory for me. I ended up coloring my hair. I've gone from a light blonde, to brown, to red, to black, and pretty much everything. Now my hair is a dark brown with red streaks (faded magenta highlights), and some natural light brown and blonde. I'm a natural dirty blonde, and I had that problem with it looking grey.

I'm going back to something near my natural color next coloring, and I suggest that you try coloring. Nothing drastic. Loreal has this natural match hair dye (lorealparisusa.com). The exact name escapes me, but go onto the website and pick the hair color that closely matches your color (the light brown, not the greyish tint). They'll give you a few suggestions for a hair color that matches yours. Go ashy to reduce brassiness, or golden to add warmth. If you are just looking to freshen up your hair a bit go natural. It helps enhance the natural colors in your hair.

I've been coloring my hair out of the box for years with no problem.

Hope I helped.

Best Light ASH Brown Hair Color to get rid of red tones?

Q. What is the best Light ASH Brown hair color? Looking for a very STRONG ash color to counteract the annoying and impossible to get out copper/red tones in my light brown hair color.

If your hair ever turned green because of an ash color let me know which one because that sounds like a winner.

My hair is similar to this: http://www.google.com/imgres?q=brown+hair+brassy&um=1&hl=en&sa=N&tbo=d&biw=1280&bih=594&tbm=isch&tbnid=pLZ_LzP-92YeAM:&imgrefurl=http://www.makeuptalk.com/t/52255/hair-color-disaster-help-please-pics&docid=4kCeXYLPhsh5GM&imgurl=http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f351/nicholyse/brassy.jpg&w=600&h=800&ei=ac3DUMDOM6_uigKJ3YHwDA&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=873&vpy=98&dur=2492&hovh=259&hovw=194&tx=110&ty=148&sig=111008130529558624822&page=1&tbnh=146&tbnw=114&start=0&ndsp=25&ved=1t:429,r:6,s:0,i:104

No answers like go to a salon/professional because they suck just as bad if not worse.

Answer
It's NOT the hair dye that can cause hair to turn green.
Sun can fade color-treated hair (invest on a good wide brim hat), chlorine (is blue, blonde is yellow, chlorine coats the hair, leaving it green, wear a bathing cap and rinsing your hair right after swimming. Hair products are killers on colored hair deep conditioning the hair once a week to retain moisture. But avoid products with keratin because that can actually harm the hair color. Volumizing products and clarifying shampoos can be too cleansing and can strip the hair of color. Brazilian and Japanese relaxers also limit what you can do with color because they really change the condition of your hair. Don't use Head and Shoulders, Pantene or Suave because of the build-up they can leave and the color-stripping they can do. - InStyle

Adding another layer of hair dye on top of another will not turn out the exact color you want. That's like adding another Crayola color on top of another. It doesn't work that way! Style meets chemistry meets biology: We're talking hair coloring.

How to dye bleached blonde hair red without fading or turning orange?

S and G pr

Right now, my hair is bleached to a blonde that's almost as light as Taylor Momsen's.I want a red similar to what Andrea Bowen (who plays Susan's daughter Julie) had during the previous season of Desperate housewives.I was told that I'd have to dye my hair a light brown or dark blonde first and then dye it red.Is this the way to go?What would be the best way to achieve this color?

Answer
It has to be re-pigmented in 3 steps. The first step is a gold filler, then an orangy color. Depending on how dark a red, possibly a red filler as the third step. Then you can apply the red. The info about dying it brown or blonde is incorrect.

Bleach; For brown hair, how long ?

Nanita

It's a dark brown color. Maybe 2 or 3 shades from black. But how long do you leave bleach in to get it to that orangey bleach look????
Obviously u won't know exactly since u can't see either colors but approximately how long would u guesstimate?

Answer
Well, I had dark brown hair with black and red and now I am currently platinum blonde.
Firstly, you want to go to the hairdressers and get it done professionally. I know that is what everyone says, but I'm being honest (only if you have any dye at all in your hair). Because I had a few different colors in my hair I had to get my hair cut from my waist to my shoulders in order to get it lighter.

OPTION 1:
If you hair is 100% natural, with absolutely no hair colour (even semi permenant), then I would suggest Schwartzkolf Nordic Hair Lightener L1++.
Put it ALL over your hair and it will go an orange colour (I would recommend leaving it in for 35mins), you might need two packets.

Don't stress too much about the orange colour. I know you want the hair blonde very quickly, so I would recommend buying hair treatments and putting it in your hair every night for around 2-3weeks (others would say wait 3months, so if your are willing to be on the safe side you can wait that long. However, if you are going to wait 2-3weeks you MUST put hair ointments and conditioning products in your hair every night until you dye your hair again).

Then buy the Nordic Lightener L1++ again, and also buy the Nordic Hair Toner (Schwarzkopf)-- do not buy any other hair tone!
With this step, do what you did previously, and cover your whole head with the Lightener. When it's time to wash it off, don't put the conditioner from the box in there straight after. So do the following steps:
1. Rinse the Lightener out thoroughly.
2. Put the hair toner in your hair, and leave it in their for around 10-15mins (ignore the 5min limit)-- NOTE: the toner is blue, so don't get freaked out, it takes out the gold/yellow tones and blends any orange tones so your hair looks much nicer.
3. Rinse thoroughly, then put the conditioner from the box in your hair.

You're hair might be orange still, so wait around 3 weeks and just repeat the previous steps (Hair treatment, Lightener, toner, conditioner).

OPTION 2:
If your hair is dyed like I said before, you must go to hairdressers. Go to them and get it done through a process.
You can then manage your own blonde hair after the second or third sitting-- depends how daring your hairdressers are (even though they might not recommend it).

WARNING: I know it is very tempting, if you are dying your own hair, to leave the Lightener in your hair for more than the recommended time (like instead of the maximum 45mins, you leave it for an hour). If you do this, your hair will snap off-- especially if you have naturally curly hair (as curly hair is dry hair). This goes for the toner as well, don't leave it in for more than 17mins.

why do i have random red hairs if im asian?

Sam W

ok im asian and sometimes i get a random red hair that is actually attached to my scalp. (so no, it wasnt from the hot red haired chick sitting beside me)

why do i get random red hairs? i find one about... once every 3 months.

Answer
I get red, white, blond hair sometimes. My hair is pretty brown for an Asian and I find the weirdest hair colors in my hair sometimes. I have no Irish heritage, I'm only 14 years old, and I don't have any French or Swedish heritage either o.O

How do you dye asian hair red?

Heberdoll

I have a friend who is on exchange and she really wants to dye her hair, and she wants to do something drastic. But it six months it has to be perfectly black again because she will be back at her school in Japan and she is not allowed to have died hair. She was really wanting red for a color.
Can you please tell me how to dye it??

Answer
Well if you wanted extremely bright red hair, you would have to bleach her hair. Some hair dyes come with bleach for you. You can buy them at stores like CVS or something. You should get the temporary one that will come off with x amount of washes or dye her hair black before she leaves...this is what my sister did to achieve a red tint of color but not bleaching. (she did not do ALL of this to GET red hair, it kind of just lead up to it lol)

She dyed her hair brown then got blonde highlights. After she dyed her hair brown again to cover the highlights. Later, she dyed her hair red, the highlights were still visibile but it was nice looking. She had a tint of red in her hair but was still a little dark. When in the sun it looked really good.

- you don't necessarily have to bleach it, only if you want the bright red.

does red hair make your teeth look yellow?

helpxme?

so i want to dye my hair red but i have braces and i'm always self concious of my teeth and i think they are really yellow, but if i dye my hair like http://29.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lc9ckm1OYG1qcpmtzo1_500.jpg this color, will it make them look yellow?

Answer
on the contrary. Red makes your teeth look more bright, it's because of the blue tone in red colours.

Red will make your teeth look brighter , even if they are a bit dingy.

I had braces too, and I always dyed my hair that same red colour. My teeth always looked bright. Same thing with red lipstick: makes your teeth look brighter!

BTW --- that is a GORGEOUS shade of red, and beautiful cut too!

What clothing colours look good with red hair?

I'm thinking of dying my hair sort of a mahogany colour, like Cheryl Cole.
However, I have a very bright wardrobe, and I'm thinking that maybe such a bright hair colour would limit what clothes I could wear with it.

What colours look very good with red hair, and what colours look really bad?

Answer
that would be a really pretty hair colour :)
red is probably more versatile than you think. no lollipop pink or red but a nice salmon is fine.
green looks amazing with red hair. i know this isn't the colour you want but this chick is an alright example: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_zrbjE9ibGSI/SYOotgi1BAI/AAAAAAAAAvw/bV7hcjjTupE/s400/christina+hendriks.jpg
black is a great contrast, beige can be nice and blue and purple make the red pop sort of like the green. all these are good colours if you want to stand out a little. you could go pastels of these colours but i am not a big fan of that. such beautiful hair and to hide it like that seems a shame.

colours to avoid are probably greys and white, and as stated before, red and hot pink because they will clash with your hair.

experiment with colours and patterns, htis is just a general guide. good luck!

Should I color my hair red?

Q. I'm thinking about coloring my hair like a Haliey Williams cherry red because I want to color my hair a fun color, but I don't know if I should because I have soft black colored hair and I have an olive skin tone and I have freckles splashed across my nose but people can't really see them in the winter.
I have dark chocolate brown colored eyes.
I meant hayley Williams.

Answer
Red is a really hard color to pull off but if you really want to do it get it done professionally please. There are two types of red hot red(orange-red) and cool red(blue/purple red) and hot red looks like clown hair on people with olive skin tones. All of the colors Hayley has in her hair are hot red colors and would clash terribly with your skin tone, she has pink toned skin so it looks fine on her. Like I said red is a really hard color to get right, so please have a professional do it for you.

Also because you have black hair they'll have to lift quite a bit of color to get your hair close to what she has, they'll probably have to do it over a period of a few days, just keep that in mind. Walk into the salon you choose before you get it done with a picture of Hayley how you like is as ask what the actual colorist thinks would be do able for your hair, the prices, time it would take, how much maintenance and up keep it will take, etc.

Hope this helps.

What would you say my skin colour is and would I look good in red hair?

Q. What do you say? Would my skin look good with red hair?

Answer
Your most beautiful hair color will bring out the subtleties of your skin tone and enhance its natural beauty. Knowing this, we went to Joico Celebrity Colorist Beth Minardi, who has colored the heads of celebs including Kirsten Dunst, Cameron Diaz and Brad Pitt, to find out exactly which shades of hair color work best on various skin tones. Minardi says that "skin tone is extremely important and serves as a guide for the colorist," and generally a good rule of thumb when it comes to picking shades is, if you have cool-toned skin, your color should also be cool in tone and vice versa. If you have warm-toned skin, you should opt for a warmer-toned hair color.

Before starting the quiz below to determine which skin tone you have and thus which hair colors will look best on you, check out these quick at-home hair coloring tips:

* For the most foolproof and flawless finish, always choose a box that's within two shades lighter or darker than your current color.
* To keep hair healthy, apply color to unwashed hair. The natural oils work to protect your hair from damaging product.
* If you want to use a semi-permanent color, know that you can only go darker or hide grays. Semi-permanent hues won't lighten hair.
* There is a specified time for leaving the dye on your hair for a reason. Obey it or you could end up with two-toned strands.

does Loreal Color Zap bleach your hair?

electrorav

i want my hair to go back to its natural colour all over,as ive got black hair dye on top and a variety of all different colours from brown to bits of blonde underneath. All are permanant. Hairdressers are too expensive (im 13!) and i don't want my hair to by seriously damaged or bleached. My question is:
does L'oreal colour zap contain bleach
does it put your hair back to its natural colour or just lighten it to a redish colour?
thanks!

sophie

Answer
No, color removers don't contain bleach and most don't even contain ammonia. It depends on how many times your hair has been dyed as to what color it will be after you use it. It should make it a red, since you used lots chemicals on your hair. (Meaning you can never really have your natural hair back until it grows out, cause it has chemicals on it)

Removing semi permanent red hair color?

Brooklynn

I dyed my hair red with manic panic's vampire red a little over a month ago. Its faded to a reddish magenta color now and i'm ready to move on from it and change my color. I've tried to just wash it with harsher shampoo and such but it still doesnt seem to be coming fast enough. I'm going to a wedding next weekend so i want it to be freshly dyed and nice. I don't need to get the color out completely, but I want a pale pink because i'm going to dye my hair baby pink with blue or purple at the tips. I don't want to bleach it again aside from my roots. I've heard color oops and/or loreal color zap might work. But i heard they work better on hair dye thats more recent. I just want this color as gone as possible with minimal damage. What can i use? I wanted to do it tomorrow so something fast please!

Answer
You can do one of two things, to remove most of that dye.
1. By using Tide detergent with shampoo
Google "How to Remove Dye from Hair"

or

2. By shampooing you hair mix with a bit of Dawn.
Google "How to Use Dawn Dishwashing Liquid for Lightening Hair."

You can also use anti-dandruff shampoo, just not the conditioner.

Here's an example what hair stripping will do to your hair.

It is worst than hair dyes, one from YA! "I accidentally dyed my hair this awful black, stripped it, and now it is this crunchy crispy mess!"

Hair strippers are chemical treatments which are intended to strip out artificial color pigment with less risk or damage to the hair. The chemicals used are called reducing agents.
Certain 'metal' strippers containing sodium sulphoites are sold for reducing hair dyed with metallic dyes, as these dyes react violently with tint stripper containing hydrogen peroxide-the subsequent reaction may cause so much heat that the hair gets dissolved.
Example: So i just put Colour B4 on my hair to try and remove my black dye so my hair it's natural colour which is dark blonde. so i've just dried my hair and there's still dark patches on it. and in some places it's gone ginger. i have garnier pre lightener. should i use it? there's no way my hair could look worse than it is now lol.
Another example:
Can you imagine this being done on YOU? Ex. of one:
"Sooo i do hair, i should know these things! I made a major OOPS in my hair color today. I picked a color close to my natural (as i had it lighter than natural before), I had dye it that color and it turned a magenta color; terrible!! So i washed and washed and washed with head and shoulders, worked but took about two weeks. Being that was still such a terrible color i picked up another shade similar to my natural (odd color, a mix between red, blonde and light brown). I dyed it this morning and well it was BRIGHT red, so i ran to the store and grabbed a light brown (i have done this before, a few years back and worked like a charm to neutralize the red and brown together). So i dyed my hair TWICE today and its a DARK DARK DARK reddish dark brown. It looks very unnatural and i hate it. I need to get rid of this asap, any fast suggestions?"

Another example from YA! "I've tried color oops and it hurt my hair and I just got it healthy. I used loreal color remover which is practically bleach and it's pinkish. I refuse to dye my hair any longer.... suggestions? ThNks."

Before bottled shampoo & hair products were invented, mid 60's, in Asia, all we've ever used was a bar of soap for body, hair & laundry, for 13 years and we have healthy silky, shiny, soft, smooth hair. Just make sure you rinse well. Try that if that works better!

When it comes to hair care treatments, product use or visits to a salon or spa, the consumer must take responsibility to do their homework and be aware of all the risks involved.
Vanessa Minnillo Lachey: "I dated a guy once who wanted me to have blonde hair. Clearly, he was the wrong guy for me! I went to a lady who bleached my hair and it literally fell out. So, not only did I go back to my natural hair, I broke up with the guy!"
Bad Hair Habit: Stripping Out Hair Dye
Smart hair care includes what not to do. If you have a change of heart after you dye your hair a dark shade, stripping out the color will open the cuticle so much that it won't lie as flat as before, says Kim Steckbeck, master stylist at Studio 21 hair salon in Woodstock, Ga. The result is hair damage with dry, brittle, frizzy tresses. "Black is the hardest to remove," she says. "It typically must be done with bleach. This leaves unwanted tones in the hair. Then, you must recolor to a desirable shade. This is very stressful on the hair."

Chemicals can enter the body through the skin.
> > > Hair dye chemicals linked to cancer
London, Feb 20, 2013 I've been saying that since 2009.
Hair dyes, which include home hair colouring kits and those used at pricey salons, are linked to deadly cancer-causing chemicals, warn scientists. In 2009 the Mail revealed that women who used hair dyes more than nine times a year had a 60% greater risk of contracting blood cancer.
A year later the European Commission banned 22 hair dyes which put long-term users at risk of bladder cancer. < < < <

Hair extensions????????????

Melanie

I bought 14 inch red hair extensions from sally's and then sewed them onto extension clips. I also have purple ones, but neither of them are on clips. Sally's won't take them and I don't use the hair extensions anymore. I wore them for like a week and now they're of no use! I was wondering if there was any store I can sell them back to other than eBay, Etsy, Amazon, etc. Thanks :)

Answer
Of course they won't take them, you've tampered with them already. They're not pawn shops!

You can sell ANYTHING on eBay or Etsy! Amazon? They have better qualifications to be an Amazon member.

I just suggest you don't use Paypal. I was doing eBay for 3 years, until I got screwed by PP. It took 3 years to get my credit.

How do i remove splat red hair dye without damage or bleach?

Brookelyn

I want to dye my hair using the luscious raspberries hair dye from Splat but I'm afraid that when the time comes and I do get tired of it and want my natural color back, how can I remove the color without bleaching and damaging my hair? Or should I just go to the hairdresser and see what my best options are? Thanks!

Answer
Splat hair dye, already has bleach that you use before you dye your hair the color. When you bleach your hair, you damage it by taking your natural color out of your hair. What I'd recommend using is a semi-permanent hair dye, since it doesn't contain bleach. It contains developer, or you could mix in developer with the semi-permanent dye, which only lightens your hair up to 4 shades. It doesn't take out your natural hair color, it only lightens it. The semi-permanent dye is perfect because it dyes your hair the way you want it to be, and it comes out in a couple of weeks if you get tired of it. You wash your hair normally and it will fade away as the weeks go on. However, if you do use a lot of developer on your hair, it could damage it. So don't constantly use developer to touch up the color, just use the semi permanent dye to do that. I do recommend taking good care of your hair, because it could feel dry after using dye. You could use a leave in conditioner, and a hair mask, and your hair should feel fine. I hope I helped :)

Answer
I think you'll have no problem dyeing your hair black, even if its bright red. bleaching is just to make hair lighter, but if your going dark, it shouldn't matter. ;)
