Should I color my hair red?

Southern B

I'm thinking about coloring my hair like a Haliey Williams cherry red because I want to color my hair a fun color, but I don't know if I should because I have soft black colored hair and I have an olive skin tone and I have freckles splashed across my nose but people can't really see them in the winter.
I have dark chocolate brown colored eyes.
I meant hayley Williams.

Answer
Red is a really hard color to pull off but if you really want to do it get it done professionally please. There are two types of red hot red(orange-red) and cool red(blue/purple red) and hot red looks like clown hair on people with olive skin tones. All of the colors Hayley has in her hair are hot red colors and would clash terribly with your skin tone, she has pink toned skin so it looks fine on her. Like I said red is a really hard color to get right, so please have a professional do it for you.

Also because you have black hair they'll have to lift quite a bit of color to get your hair close to what she has, they'll probably have to do it over a period of a few days, just keep that in mind. Walk into the salon you choose before you get it done with a picture of Hayley how you like is as ask what the actual colorist thinks would be do able for your hair, the prices, time it would take, how much maintenance and up keep it will take, etc.

Hope this helps.

Dying over dyed red hair - which type of colour?

Hannah

A while ago I dyed, well, tried to dye, my medium brown hair an auburn colour. Didnt come out right at all - i ended up with rusty orange roots, while the rest of my hair just became slightly redder than before.
I'm getting really sick of it, so i decided to dye it my natural colour and just leave it alone. The thing is, which tone of colour should i use - ash, neutral or warm??
I've heard some people telling me that i should use ash because it will cancel out the orange, but then others told me to use neutral because otherwise it wull look muddy brown. I'm confused =/
Also, will the blotchiness show through the brown, or will it kind of even things out?

Answer
If your hair already has red in it, you need to use an ash dye, but no, your hair will not become "muddy", it will look more neutral. I think you should consider striping your hair, and then redyeing it, this will even out the color, and provide a blank canvas for you. If you do bleach it, then keep in mind that your hair is most likely porous, which means that your hair will absorb the color more, and come out one level darker. Don't use a box dye because the developers are too harsh, and the results are too unpredictable. Go to a beauty supply to buy your hair dye/bleach.

You can't go back to your childhood roots, as we grow older, our hormones changes, our hair changes, but HEAT & CHEMICALS, hair's worst enemies, changes how your body & hair, since you're adding chemicals to your body. Google: hair dyes & cancer.

If you USED to be blonde, as you get older, your hair changes color too, if you know HOW TO TAKE good care of your hair. DYK: there are 15 shades of colors for blond hair? Red has about 5-7 shades of colors in them. But people don't know that, because they're always covering their hair with hair dyes.

Getting extensions are not that easy, like buying shoes. AND if you have problem styling your own hair, add hair extensions to the formula, it will be even harder to style when you have them.

People waste tons of money on extensions because it's the new trend. Without doing much research. Then, they come to YA HAIR and ask us questions on how to clip it on their hair, if they can go swimming, play sports, if they can dye or perm, etc. Do you think you'll have time for school, trying to put on hair extensions over 1 hour every morning? Then, they ruin it by dyeing to match their hair.

It's really not that simple! Then again, it will not work out if you have thin hair, the clip will be showing through! How embarrassing will that be, if it keeps falling out from your head, if it's not on right!?!

At the salon: 25-50 ($50-$100) extensions, they also have hidden costs, like monthly maintenance fees, one girl charge YA poster $248 more saying the salon put 120 extensions on her head, but she only counted 60. They are very charming!

I got the pure extensions on Thursday their the ones the get put in your using a little barrel and clamping it shut . My coworker put them in as kind of practice since were both new to it but now they are hurting me really bad I have thick hair so she put a lot of rows in and the back of my head is so sore ! I want to take them out but don't want to because I spent 600 dollars on them . Is this normal or did she maybe put them in rong ?

This one says it all:
i have had hair extensions done in a hairdressers in melton mowbray 3weeks ago. i have been told they are 100% real hair but they look terrible,it looks like i have been back-combing it. if i curl them it just goes frizzy and if i straighten them it also goes very frizzy with the back-coming look. i have bought all the products that was advised and i have looked after them the way i was told to. i have had hair extensions before and they were lovely, i had no problems. i have been back 2 times to the hairdressers for help and advise and i was told that the hair is rubbing on my shoulders which is giving the back-combing look (my shoulders are not that big). i am now asking for my money back and the hair taken out but they are refusing. i have spoke to the hairdressing federation and they told me to call trading standards, they said to get them tested but i do not know where to send them. thanks for any help.

What causes red hair?

Answer
The pigment pheomelanin gives red hair its distinctive color.
Red hair is associated with fair skin color because of low concentrations of eumelanin throughout the body of those with red hair.This lower melanin-concentration confers the advantage that a sufficient concentration of important Vitamin D can be produced under low light conditions.
The genetics of red hair, appear to be associated with the melanocortin-1 receptor (MC1R), which is found on chromosome 16.Red hair can originate from several different changes on the MC1R-gene. If one of these changes is present on both chromosomes then the respective individual is likely to have red hair. This type of inheritance is described as an autosomal recessive mode of inheritance. Even if both parents do not have red hair themselves, both can be carriers for the gene and have a redheaded child.

what is the chance my 2nd son will have red hair?

KristySEK

I have bright red hair my 1st child has red hair. will his lil brother have it too? My husbands mom's hair is a shade of red looks more brown. My brother and I are the only ones who have red hair in my family. Does anyone know the chance of my 2nd son having red hair too? I hope so :)

Answer
Hair color is controlled by several genes (at least 5). There are many shades of hair color, and creating a pedigree can be quite complicated.

Will color oops lighten my hair?

asdfghjkl;

My hair is naturally light blonde but a bit over a year and I've been dying it dark brown and recently dark red. My roots are showing and I wanted to dye my hair red again although I wanted a more vibrant red but I didn't want to bleach my hair. I've watched some videos on YouTube and tired to research the product more but I haven't found anything too helpful. So basically I was wondering if the color oops would actually restore my hair back to light or dirty blonde? (or also maybe orange since I've dyed my hair red)

Answer
It would go orange, and your roots would be a different color. Vibrant Red is such a difficult color to do on yourself since it's easy to get hot roots. Make sure you formulate colors appropriately. Mixing a little neutral in your color for your new growth could help reduce chances of hot roots.

Naturally my hair is a medium brown. I had honey blonde highlights until recently (two days ago).. I colored my hair a chestnut brown. It was a level 2.. 28 wash dye.. so not permanet. It has a reddish tint that I don't really care for. So... I just went to Sally's an bought the ION permanent creme in medium brown. Will this work? How about coloring it two days after using a level 2 dye?? Any advice? Don't want any copper or red tones! Help! Thank you for all responses!! :))

Answer
Going dark to light WILL give you red, because that is the in between color from brown to blonde. If you want to eliminate the red, you must bleach first then dye. but not without the usual warnings and cautions of over processing your hair. As time goes by, you will not have to bleach the whole head, simply the roots.

Processing your whole head will ruin your hair. And doing this too often, while experimenting with color is going to damage your scalp, and cuticle. Caution and extreme conditioning, no heat or styling products should be used while you do this: find your color.

You should wait MINIMUM of 2 weeks before processing again. Sooner, you risk damage. Get into the habit of working ONLY the roots. Cellophane and clear tape off the rest of your hair so you don't get bleach on it. Bleach will remove it. Loreal's Super Blonde had three shades of blonde to take you from brown to blonde with no red tones. If you let the mixture get dry on your head, it won't color without going red. If you sweat, it won't bleach without red. If you take it off too soon, it will be red.

Taking yourself to a salon when you FIRST want to try a big change is ALWAYS best, so you don't over process. They will do it once, right, and the first time. without damaging your hair. You'll end up spending 60 bucks on chemicals, anyway. And then NOT be happy with the color.

The salon will do it for that much and get it right, in the beginning!

Then, you can simply do the touch ups your self at home, roots only and keep the perfect color.

P.s.. WATCH how they do it, so you can learn and ask how to prevent banding when you touch up the roots. They will be awesome and show you! Oh.. dont tell them you won't be back, either! heheh

P.s... treat your hair to a nice luxurious olive oil hot oil treatment.. you poor hair would love you!

How to prevent red hair from fading?

Marie Eliz

So i dyed my hair medium auburn two weeks ago, and it completely faded into a strawberry blonde color. I'd like to dye it again now, so does anyone have any tips to prevent it from fading again? Please? Thanks :)

Answer
That was 2 weeks ago? Don't wash your hair often. Style meets chemistry meets biology: We're talking hair coloring.

Playing with chemicals is not like playing with clothes, or doing a manicure, there are penalties for playing chemicals in the lab. Even hair color experts at the salon are not rocket scientists, they do a bang up dye jobs to their clients or their own hair.
Example: "My hair is right about armpit length as it is, but I've severely damaged it by bleaching it all at once. As a student of cosmetology myself, I would have to say that it was probably one of the worst mistakes I could have ever made."
Another example: ok i did my hair yesterday i DIDN'T bleach it ,but im not sure what its called but she took the color out of my hair and then dies it a blond color and my head was on fire it killed me so after that i hated my hair color so i colored it my self a darker color, it looked so ugly and it burned me again it rully hrt so after i washed it my mom checked it for me and found small spots of blood all over my top scalp like over 20 of em now im scared and don't know why its there is it from the color am i sick and something is wrong ??

Make up for red hair and green eyes?

izziebell9

Okay, I have bright red hair and green eyes. Up until now as for eye shadow I have been wearing different shades of brown(neutral colors in general) and for eyeliner I have been wearing bronze but no mascara.. I was wondering what would look good with my hair and eyes? I really want to make my eyes pop but i've always been a little scared of mascara because I always thought black would look bad and I just don't have a clue about what color i should go with for brown. So! In general I just want to know, what colors would look good with red hair, green eyes and pale skin? Thanks!

Answer
Hey I have red hair, green eyes, and pale skin! lol.

My green eyes aren't terribly bright though, I use an emerald/sea green shade for eyeliner on my top lid and bottom corners and WOW does it make a difference. Then I go with a brownish black mascara (a pure black is too much for me)

Brown is better for the everyday subdued looks, it does not clash either red or green, so go ahead with it. it's more softer than black, but black eyeliner can really go with any color, don't be afraid of being too dramatic as long as you keep to a thin line

anyone else jealous of blonde/light red hair and blue or green eyes?

Lisa L

it's not that I hate my hair color. wikipedia defines it as "light ash brown" lol...to think that they would classify it that far. I don't hate my hazel (green/brown type) eyes, people say they are big and beautiful, but sometimes I catch myself thinking that life would be better if I had blue or green eyes, or blonde hair or light red hair. I mean does anyone else that has black or brown hair, or brown or my kind of hazel eyes feel the same way?

Answer
I have a dark brown that gets confused with black hair and brown eyes. Don't like blonde for myself, i prefer the darker brunette color. But green eyes are gorgeous. I don't get jealous, i just admire it if i see someone with nice eyes and compliment them. I think my eyes are boring because everyone has brown eyes and they're not unique, but oh well. Should be what's behind those eyes and skin what really matters in life though.

dark angel hair and makeup?

so im going to be a dark angel for a halloween party
i made my costume but i want some really good ideas on what makeup i should do to be a dark angel but still be sexy
and hair? i was thinking do like... uber curls then put moose in and mess it up
so i still have the look
or should i stay with curles and be cute?
or should i straighten my hair?
pics would be awesome!
please and thank you

Answer
Oh, definitely curls!

For the make-up, lots of black eyeliner, red-red lipstick, and maybe use some eyeliner mixed with a little vaseline under your cheekbones to define your face a little.

Big hint: try it out TONIGHT so you know what to do tomorrow!

Oh, and I think glitter would look very cool, either just on your eyebrows, or all over your face. Maybe some in your hair, too.

I think Susan Lucci in the 1980s would make a great demented Dark Angel. Look at this Soap Opera Digest cover -- Lucci is the one with dark hair; imagine her with redder lips and glitter. The big hair is priceless!

How then do you apply makeup o achieve an 80âs look?

You can start off by applying liquid foundation to smooth out your complexion. (Conceal blemishes or dark spots beforehand if necessary.)
Line your lids with a good black eyeliner. Line your top and bottom lids, as well as the skin right under your eyes. Put a lot!
Curl your eyelashes and apply mascara.
Afterwards, put on lots of bright green, blue or purple eyeshadow onto your entire eyelid; entire means from the brow line up to the lid line. You can apply a bold secondary color to make it more interesting.
Apply a few strokes of bright blush along your cheekbones - make it look heavy.
Finally, finish off that look with a bright red colored lipstick.
You can always refer to the 80âs style of Madonna or Cyndi Lauper - they are excellent examples of the look of this era. You can copy the colors, if you want to. 80âs makeup is surely one of the most interesting trends ever!

I'm expecting the cut downs but my hair will still will be better so if you could just tell me why and restrain yourself from wanting to kill me, which I'm used to, that would be cool
I only comb my hair in the shower with my fingers and I never blow dry my hair which I believe cases split ends. I get so many girls that have to say something bad about my hair just to make themselves feel better. The most commin is, "Do you die your hair?" in a mean voise. For those girls I lie to help them out and say, "yes I use Lorial 9RB" when my hair is natualy red.

Answer
I wash my hair every other day or every three days, depending on who I am around. If I am only around my family, I wash every three days to save money on hot water. I don't spend more than $40 for both shampoo and conditioner. In fact, I probably spend more like $36 total but it is a lot easier rounding the total to the nearest figure ending in 0. I don't use hairspray, mousse, or gel in my hair.

In the 1980s and 1990s when every woman had the waves in their hair and curled their bangs, I used both hairspray and mousse. I tried gel in my hair a couple of times in the past but I never liked it. By 2000, I stopped using mousse. I stopped using hairspray in August of 2007.

I brush my hair most of the time. When I am with my family, I don't brush my hair. I always make sure I brush my hair when I go to a public place.

Q. my natural hair color is black or dark brown, and i dye it blonde 2 times on the roots and the bottom i need to bottles cause i have lots of hair lol , theni dye it red how long will it last i dye it 2 weeks ago and am just wondering when will my black hair come back :(
i did not bleach it that ugly no i dye it blonde revlon hair dye
and it came out orange

Answer
It depends on how long your hair grows if your hair grows fast it will proably grow out in 2-3 weeks , when I dyed my hair a fiery red colour it only lasted a couple of weeks and it was growing out , it's good to buy a red shampoo as it makes the colour stay vibrant and also stores the colour in the cubcile of the hair

Do i have to bleach my dyed black hair if i want to color it red?

LC

I dyed my hair black in june then I re dyed it again black in september but now I want to color it red, but do I have to bleach it to get it red. I want it something like this http://dulce-maria.firbec.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/07/rbd-dulce-maria.jpg
Thanks for the help! :)

Answer
permanent colour can not lift another permanent colour... youl need to bleach out the artificially dyed areas of your hair (and not the natural, untouched areas) to lighter than the desired shade before recolouring with the colour you want. the natural bits of your hair should match the red permanent dye you choose. its very difficult to only bleach the coloured bits of your hair so its much better to see a professional who can work with your hair in the best way to keep in good condition and give you the most even result. also remember bleach can be very damaging so if you insist on trying this yourself be careful not to over process the hair! if you bleach all over your hair, the natural bits will go very light and will be very bright when you recolour with the red and the coloured bits that had been bleached will be a different darker colour. natural hair bleaches a lot lighter a lot quicker than coloured hair, even if the colour is lighter than the natural base.

hope this makes sense and wasnt too jumbled! good luck :)

darkbrown hair to red dye?

JumpOnYell

so i wanna dye my hair red only the bottom half an my bangs i have dark brown hair almost black whats the best and cheapest red hair dye i can buy from like walmart i can spend like 10 dollars or a lil more i need a really bright red best answer 10 points thanks

Answer
Professionals are so annoying. Jeez, I've been doing my own hair my whole life and when I finally went to a salon they messed it up really horribly and I paid 120. Anyways you can do one of two things. Sally's has little kits with the bleach and red color and everything and it is very red and it is all you will need and it's only like 10 bucks or you can get a hi-color from L'oreal also at Sally's which won't be as RED but it will be a pretty vampire red. Very easy and you won't need to spend a bunch of money some hawty tawdy stylist. Trust me anything a stylist can do you can do for cheaper and better with practice =)

HAIR RED highlights or lowlights or tint - SHARON OSBOURNE?

bubbe2005

Okay, so I have never been to a hair salon before to have my hair colored.

Basically I am filipina with naturally Black hair.
I have been coloring my hair for years, I want to have sharon osbournes red hair!!!!

my length is just past my bra strap.

What is the difference if I had RED tint as opposed to RED highlights?!?!?

My goal is to have sharon osbournes RED HAIR!!

Please can someone help me, perhaps a hair stylist or one that works in a salon?

Also what are lowlights?

so I don't look like an idiot, please can someone explain to me having RED TINT, RED HIGHLIGHTS and RED LOWLIGHTS please?

thank you!!!!

hmm so can anyone suggest to me then please.
I want two tone red.
base color dark red.
highlights lighter red than base colour.

what would be the process, I would have to have tinting done first and then highlights later on?

I'm thinking too much chemicals in my think long hair that I do not want to lose, I'm already losing hair by coming!!

Answer
ok low lights are any colour darker than your natural colour and high light being the opposite.

sharron has a natural mid/dark brown with megenta red LOW lights. (full head foils)

a tint is an all over colour which i never advise anyone to have as the up keep is a nightmare. also dont let them bleach your hair before the high lights as this will make them fade quicker.

red - tint, high/low lights - do tend to fade so use a colour shampoo and conditioner

I have naturally red hair. what color would go best with it if i were to get highlights/lowlights?

I plan on getting this hairstyle:

Answer
I have natural copper red hair too! My hair has natural reddish gold highlights. You should consider getting those. I've seen many redheads with those highlights and they look very natural (unless natural is not the look you are going for). I would agree with Janine about the colors, but now there is a 12 color system. You, being a natural redhead, would be warm autumn or warm spring (warm spring for lighter red hair and warm autumn for darker).
As for makeup, keep it natural. Play up your features one at a time.

Ghost shrimp vs red cherry shrimp?

Q. Which do you prefer and why?

Answer
Without a doubt I prefer Red cherry shrimp.

They are much brighter and prettier.

Cherry shrimp are great at eating and controlling different algae like hair algaes that the ghost shrimp does not feed off of.

So Cherry then is a more beautiful tank inhabitant that will help reduce algae in addition to cleaning up uneaten foods.

My favorite freshwater shrimp though is the blue tiger, though!!

Why is there so much algae in my tank(read details)?

hectorwong

I have a 20 gallon tank, 2 20 gallon filters, aquaclear/ mod top fin, planted tank, 2.8 watts per gallon, after one week all green. Even sometimes I get red hair algae hanging on the bottom of my filter where it waterfalls. I got 10 1 to 2 inch fishes there and change water every two weeks, feed a pinch or two once a day. Need solution other than using algae eating fish becasue they dont eat that much. Also some of my plants and gravel have a little algae on them.

Answer
There will be a certain amount of algae in a properly lighted tank. However you can control it. You need algae eating fish. I use plecostomus and Chinese algae eaters.
Limit the time your tank light is on and keep your tank out of direct sun light. Algae thrives on direct sun light.
Actually the presance of algae means you have a healthy tank because it takes nuetrients to grow it. You mention plants. Puting a lot of plants in your tank will also help as they will starve the algae for the nutrients. This web site is very informational.

Can you dye your hair twice in one week?

Marla

Hello! ! I have just dyed my hair a dark reddish auburn color with iron brillinace shine permanent dye. PERMANENT. And although I did a really, really good job, I have missed a few spots. Some parts of my hair, abo ve the nape of my neck area didnt get as much dye as other areas, so the red is not as apparent. And, some of my roots, and little areas here and there just did not get dye at all. I want to avoid having to search my whole head for the areas that aren't dyed, so, my question for you is, can i re-dye my whole head the same way I did before? If not, what can I do? I welcome any and all information! :) Thanks guys.

Answer
Overlapping dye onto previously colored hair is what creates dullness and dryness. If you color your hair @ home or salon, let your roots grow out as long as you can stand, so the line of demarcation is easier to spot. Only run color through the lengths for five minutes to refresh the ends. To extend the time between touch-ups, use a gloss and deep -conditioning treatments. They will help smooth cuticles roughed up by daily wear & tear, and the hair will look shinier. ~ Harry Josh, hairstylist of the celebrities.

Mama

My son dyed his hair bleach blonde white awhile ago & then tried to dye it back to a normal dark brown color and then it turned out reddish and not a good brown color like his natural hair... now its a pail brown color... how would it be dyed again to get it to a dark/light brown color like his natural? with out any red! Plus all this dyeing was done by a pro, not a home kit... So how! Please help!

Answer
Adding another LAYER of chemicals on his hair will ONLY TAKE longer to get to his natural color.

PERMANENT HAIR COLOUR ALMOST COMPLETELY WASHED out!?

fish.

About a week ago, I dyed my hair from a light brown to red [by red i mean actually red, not orange]. i'm 110% sure it's permanent. I washed it with the stuff that came with it, then used the regular stuff and it faded. oh, and i left the dye in for the correct amount of time too. so i'm super confused. :]

Answer
red color molecules are the largest of any color therefore it will fade faster than any other color.
if the store brand color came with stuff to shampoo your hair with it was not a permanent color. professional color doesn't come with anything so it know it was a store color. it could have been demipermanent (most likely) wich won't last as longa as it should because of the size of the color molecules.

why does red hair colour always fade out?

toronto_gi

Answer
Red dye molecules are less readily absorbed by hair because of their size, and they slip out of the hair shaft faster. Use a color protectant shampoo for RED hair, because it will have red pigment molecules in the shampoo and each time you shampoo, it will deposit a little bit of color into your hair. Or you can use a color refresher/depositor - Paul Mitchell used to make a color depositing red shampoo that is amazing - I still use it.

How do you dye auburn Remy Human Hair Extensions red?

Candy Shie

I bought "Auburn" Remy Human Hair Extensions online from Luxy Hair.com. I say "auburn" because they look like more of a light brown. They didn't have the exact color I wanted. I bought auburn because I have my hair dyed Olia Light Intense Auburn and I wanted to dye them the same color. In the week time span it took for me to get the extensions mailed I realized my color was fading dramatically every time I washed my hair. So, I decided not to dye the extensions with the same color and bought another auburn/reddish boxed dye to use on the extensions and my own hair. I used them on the extensions first. The color came out purplish brown. So then I took another one-clip weft and used a different reddish dye and that didn't come out much better. The site says to have your hairdresser dye them so I've been calling different hairdressers and no one wants to dye these extensions. I'm really getting fed up. I spent a lot of money on extensions I can't wear. PLEASE HELP!
They are clip-in hair extensions

Answer
Colouring hair extensions will never give you results as like your natural hair. Even extensions will be deteriorated and will not be of any use further. You can go for another option buy coloured extensions from http://www.hairextenxions.com/ , if you actually want coloured extensions. This will ultimately help you have your wish fulfilled and you don't need to mess up with the colouring also.

What is the poem from the movie "Taken in Broad Daylight"?

Spddin

There was a poem recited in the 2009 movie"Taken in Broad Daylight" Any one know the name?

Answer
The Shooting of Dan McGrew by Robert Services

A bunch of the boys were whooping it up
in the Malamute saloon;
The kid that handles the music-box
was hitting a jag-time tune;
Back of the bar, in a solo game,
sat Dangerous Dan McGrew,
And watching his luck was his light-o'-love,
the lady that's known as Lou.

When out of the night, which was fifty below,
and into the din and the glare,
There stumbled a miner fresh from the creeks,
dog-dirty, and loaded for bear.
He looked like a man with a foot in the grave
and scarcely the strength of a louse,
Yet he tilted a poke of dust on the bar,
and he called for drinks for the house.
There was none could place the stranger's face,
though we searched ourselves for a clue;
But we drank his health, and the last to drink
was Dangerous Dan McGrew.

There's men that somehow just grip your eyes,
and hold them hard like a spell;
And such was he, and he looked to me
like a man who had lived in hell;
With a face most hair, and the dreary stare
of a dog whose day is done,
As he watered the green stuff in his glass,
and the drops fell one by one.
Then I got to figgering who he was,
and wondering what he'd do,
And I turned my head â and there watching him
was the lady that's known as Lou.

His eyes went rubbering round the room,
and he seemed in a kind of daze,
Till at last that old piano fell
in the way of his wandering gaze.
The rag-time kid was having a drink;
there was no one else on the stool,
So the stranger stumbles across the room,
and flops down there like a fool.
In a buckskin shirt that was glazed with dirt
he sat, and I saw him sway;
Then he clutched the keys with his talon hands
â my God! but that man could play.

Were you ever out in the Great Alone,
when the moon was awful clear,
And the icy mountains hemmed you in
with a silence you most could hear;
With only the howl of a timber wolf,
and you camped there in the cold,
A half-dead thing in a stark, dead world,
clean mad for the muck called gold;
While high overhead, green, yellow and red,
the North Lights swept in bars? â
Then you've a hunch what the music meant. . .
hunger and night and the stars.

And hunger not of the belly kind,
that's banished with bacon and beans,
But the gnawing hunger of lonely men
for a home and all that it means;
For a fireside far from the cares that are,
four walls and a roof above;
But oh! so cramful of cosy joy,
and crowned with a woman's love â
A woman dearer than all the world,
and true as Heaven is true â
(God! how ghastly she looks through her rouge, â
the lady that's known as Lou).

Then on a sudden the music changed,
so soft that you scarce could hear;
But you felt that your life had been looted clean
of all that it once held dear;
That someone had stolen the woman you loved;
that her love was a devil's lie;
That your guts were gone, and the best for you
was to crawl away and die.
'Twas the crowning cry of a heart's despair,
and it thrilled you through and through â
"I guess I'll make it a spread misere",
said Dangerous Dan McGrew.

The music almost died away. . .
then it burst like a pent-up flood;
And it seemed to say, "Repay, repay",
and my eyes were blind with blood.
The thought came back of an ancient wrong,
and it stung like a frozen lash,
And the lust awoke to kill, to kill. . .
then the music stopped with a crash,
And the stranger turned, and his eyes they burned
in a most peculiar way;
In a buckskin shirt that was glazed with dirt
he sat, and I saw him sway;
Then his lips went in in a kind of grin,
and he spoke, and his voice was calm,
And "Boys," says he, "you don't know me,
and none of you care a damn;
But I want to state, and my words are straight,
and I'll bet my poke they're true,
That one of you is a hound of hell. . .
and that one is Dan McGrew."

Then I ducked my head, and the lights went out,
and two guns blazed in the dark,
And a woman screamed, and the lights went up,
and two men lay stiff and stark.
Pitched on his head, and pumped full of lead,
was Dangerous Dan McGrew,
While the man from the creeks lay clutched to the breast
of the lady that's known as Lou.

These are the simple facts of the case,
and I guess I ought to know.
They say the stranger was crazed with "hooch",
and I'm not denying it's so.
I'm not so wise as the lawyer guys,
but strictly between us two â
The woman that kissed him and â pinched his poke â
was the lady that's known as Lou.

That pasrticular style is more middle aged womanish get more of a cut that goes to the sides and desnt have a daft stick up fringe like that. but if your doing it to look cool then i advise dont, the pixie haircut is so common in indie wannabe girls (as it dying hair blonde or red) and as it first came out in 2006, you are going to look like a twat to catch on so late (sorry lol) and when you are one of the alst to have it. note indie girls do/know about things first - like sequin tops are realy in this season, the indie kids i know were sporting them last year. indie kids know about bands before they get big etc, they basically do things before they get mainstream. the indie pixie haircut is getting old now and i cant stress enough that you're going to look like a poser and a hipster (urban dictionary that) even for just referring to yourself as an idie kid. also, look at this seasons hair trends on the cat walks, whatever is on the catwalks tend to be the trends that will come next year and would you rather be the cool girl who got that haircut before everyone else or the wannabe indie kid who got the same old hair cut ages after al the other indie girls. sorry i know this all sounds rude im really not trying to be but it's defo a no no to cal yourself indie and im trying to stress that, its kinda embaressing! and are you the young indie type who follows topshop and obsesses over kings of leon? cause im worried you are and i think people will see through you if you try and be somthing your not. anyways check out whats on the catwalks this season and be known to people as a trendsetter nopt a fake sheep!!!

hair color suggestions?

Kar

I would like to dye my hair unnatural color, but I don'd know what color would look best on me. I was thinking along the lines of a red or blue, maybe purple, but I fairly pale skin, hazel eyes ( a bit more on the green side) with specs of grey in them and my natural hair color is a medium to light brown. If you could please suggest a hair color that is not too harsh, but would look good with pale skin and hazel eyes that would be a lot of help. Thank you!

Answer
it depends on the actual tone of your skin.

(quiz to take)

I personally have pale olive skin with green eyes. My hair is naturally dark brown but I have my colorist put some dark red in it (just random pieces that blend in), and it gives my hair more dimension and makes my eyes really pop.

My sister is also pale, but her skin is more porcelain peach. Her hair is a naturally dirty blonde, but she lightens it and puts some very pale pink streaks in it, which looks really pretty on her.

I recommend bringing in some photos to your stylist and he/she can help you determine which color(s) would be most flattering on you. (Don't try to do it yourself at home. Have it professionally done.)

What hair color would look best with light brown eyes and light skin tone?

Lily Ayala

I want a hair color that will help my eyes stand out and to make my skintone look great. I also want to try something new. Any ideas?

Answer
If red looks good on you/you have a lot of red/gold clothing,

If you have golden, olive or dark skin and brown or dark eyes (most Latinas, Asians and African Americans fall into this category). if you tan easily and the veins in their inner wrists are green.

then try dark brown/red hair...

If blue looks good on you/you have a lot of blue in your closet
if you have fair skin and blue or green eyes, you burn before you tan and the veins in your wrists run blue

then try a light carmelly brown hair color.

If you have the cash, get it done professionally.

If not, look for these words on the hair color box...

If you look good in red: look for words such as "warm" stay away from "ash". go for a deep chocolate, rich golden brown, auburn, warm gold, red highlights, and golden blonde shades

If you look best in blues: avoid colors such as gold, auburn or copper and seek out "cool" or "ash"

I want to dye my hair red, how do I know whether if it would look good or not? And would it be hard to go back?

.....

I have medium brown hair and brown eyes, and a neutral skin tone. Considering these facts, do you think that this hair-do will look good on me?:
http://www.cosmopolitan.com/cm/cosmopolitan/images/AT/drew-hair-08-de.jpg

In order to get my hair from medium brown to that red, would it take a while? Also, if I do dye my hair red, would it be hard to go back to brown? Please, only serious answers.
I don't plan on doing it myself...

Answer
to see if you'll like your hair red go to ivillage.com make an account (its free!) then go to beauty&style then makeovers then click the virtual makeover...upload a pick. it works surprisingly well!
to dye it just get the right color dye...(i use herbal essences dye cuz it smells WAY better, and it makes my hair really soft!)
hope that helps!

http://s7d3.scene7.com/is-viewers/flash/genericzoom.swf?serverUrl=http://s7d3.scene7.com/is/image/&image=SallyBeauty%2FSBS-305556

im afraid that my hair won't turn out that color. i dont want to bleach my hair. so should i buy a darker or lighter red color for my hair? or should i buy that exact color?

Answer
I also have naturally brown hair and now my hair is coloured bright red. I would go for a bit brighter than you want, so you can compensate for the darkness of your natural hair. When your hair fully absorbs the red after a few times colouring it, it won't fade and be brown-ish, it'll be more red. Then you can maybe use a darker red because the underlying colour will be red, not brown :)

Best way to maintain red hair color?

Q. I've been dyeing my hair red for years now. I'm naturally blonde. Realllly thin hair. Can't find anything to help it from fading. Right now, most of my hair is vibrant red, some of it is blonde. (You can see it in my thumbnail) I've used Loreal Colorist Professional(?) in Clover red. It worked alright, but I don't know if it will stain the platinum blonde part in my hair. Also, when my color fades, my roots don't fade, but my ends fade really quickly. Last time I got my hair dyed like this it only lasted 2-3 weeks. I heard that keratin helps too, so I've been using Chi's Keratin Mist. Any other suggestions??

Answer
Red is always going to be a hard color to maintain. The reason why it fades at the ends is due to the porosity and dead ends. Also, to help is using a color enhancer shampoo with a low pH around 3.5-4.5 this helps to keep the cuticle shaft closed. Another is washing your hair too much, using heating appliances and not using a heat protectant, the sun also oxidizes hair color.
No matter what brand you use the red is going to fade. Next time you go to a beauty supply store like sally's buy a protein filler in red and you can apply it to your hair and wash it out, or put some in the color as well, either way it's going to even out the porosity to give you and even color. Just put the color in a bowl and then the protein red filler and mix first then mix the peroxide. I also buy a demi permanent and use in between color applications. Demi permanents are low in ammonia , deposit color only, and make you hair very shiny, and last between 6-8 weeks. This is optional and found that it does work good and is less damaging.
hope this helps and i love your red color it's very pretty for you skin tone :)

What do you think of these characters?

Cinnamuffi

I'm writing a story about a trio who meet a bunch of ghosts in a cursed haunted house, some of whom are vengeful while others merely wish to pass on. Every ghost, however, has their own story that ties back into the whole. Every ghost died seven years after another in that house, except for a few exceptions that relate to plot events. Therefore, the names aren't supposed to be terribly modern. Are the names over-weird? Do the character appearances need to be altered? Opine at will!

1928 Michael Faust- Long white hair and piercing gold eyes. Died due to an accident in his home on Halloween night ~36 years old
1935 Edgar Hamilton- Black hair tied back and shot through with silver, muddy brown eyes, and a jagged scar down his face. Purchased the house and was subsequently killed by Michael ~42
1942 Jasper Atkins- Dark hair, dark eyes. Employed by the Prescott family, lost his life. ~28
1949 Evan Prescott- Blonde hair cropped short. Family inherited the house from Hamilton. Family moved out shortly after the second death. ~27
1956 Tobias Maloy- Brown hair coiffed into a pompodor, wears a greaser jacket. Broke into the empty house with his friends and died. ~18
1963 Niccoli (Nic) Pollux- Silky auburn curls and blue grey eyes. Family purchased the home but left after their son was killed. ~7
1970 Lucien Malcassio- Wavy, dark brown hair and menacing blue eyes. Lived alone in the house and willed it to the Alisdairs. ~30
1977 Marcus Alisdair- Shockingly bright red hair and eyes the color of antifreeze. Second son of the Alisdairs and the troublemaker. ~18
1984 Ava Marie- Mousy blonde hair, bluish green eyes. Got a job working as a maid for the Alisdairs. They left soon after her death, not feeling comfortable in the house anymore ~22
1991 Benjamin Maddox- Platinum blond hair and blue eyes. Police officer who traced the connection of deaths in the house but died under mysterious circumstances while digging around the house ~36
Skip of 1998 due to plot circumstances. Two were killed in 2005 to make up for this.
2005 Arden Nowel- Dark brown hair and gunmetal grey eyes. Brought his wife to the house, but both perished. ~28
2005 Briony Nowel- Flaxen blonde hair with bright green eyes. Watched her husband die ~27
2012 Nicholas Pollux- Slicked back auburn hair and blue grey eyes. He has a mysterious tie to the little boy who died all those years ago, and works as a paranormal expert. Investigates the house with his two friends on an anonymous tip ~21
2012 Carter Clare- Spiky blond hair and bright blue eyes. Fraternal twins with Nora. Paranormal expert along with Nicholas ~20
2012 Nora Clare- Short black hair and similarly bright blue eyes. Fraternal twins with Carter. Mans the camera on their paranormal investigations ~20

Several of the names are locked for sure, and I just want opinions on them. Others, however, are not set in stone. I'd love to hear what you think! Thank you very much in advance.

Answer
Your characters' names are very good. Might I add that most authors use a very subtle names to 'imply' something of your characters. For example, Michael Faust. 'Faust' is a term pertaining to those who make a contract with the devil as in the classical German legend. Of course, this is optional and not necessary, but this technique gives a depth to you, the author. Now, all characters are distinct, unique, and spot-on. You used every clear distinctions, especially the pompadour and the antifreeze eyes.

Be sure to emphasize your characters further by giving them certain body structures, facial features, personalities, and overall philosophy that are unique to that character. (ie: muscular build, lanky build, short stature, obese build, bony figure, high cheekbones, deepset eyes, dimples, a chiseled nose, fat cheeks, constantly-dyed hair, outrageous nail art, piercings, glasses, etc.)

Diversity is important in creating a cast of characters. Disney animators even said that they look for certain contrasts and different appearances when creating them, in terms of size, build, purpose, ideals, nature, name implications, and idiosyncrasies.I also want to note that your age diversity is commendable. Overall diversity is very good.

There's not much to criticize so I'd say you're good to go. Good luck.
