Why some people have red hair?

Q. Please don't tell me because they can...i am not asking this to make fun of anyone
Thank you.

Answer
red hair came about the same as blonde hair. They are both genetic mutations (from the original black haired gene) that were desirable adaptations to the Homo Sapiens who migrated North from Africa.

Mutations come about all the time in genetics. Most of them die right out if they do not improve adaptivity to a certain environment.
If such a gene had (and probably did) appeared in Africa, it would have immediately died out, because red hair, and the fair skin that usually accompanies it, would have been ill-suited for the hot African climate.

However, the trait for red hair, same as blonde hair, thrived in the cold Northern climate where sun is scarce. People that carry the red or blonde gene are believed to also be able to absorb and metabolize more vitamin D, which helps prevent rickets, and also produces more well-being chemicals in the brain like Serotonin.

The reason why there are both red and blonde genes probably has to do with the cultures that developed in early civilizations. Many scientists believe that the red gene prominently came about in the area around Greece, and then moved upward into Western Europe. The blonde gene developed more in Central Europe and Scandinavia.
Perhaps the people who lived in these areas thought the redheads/blondes were more beautiful, respectively?

How to get rid of this red hair?

So around Thanksgiving, I dyed my hair red, loved it, all that good stuff. Now it's April, and I kinda miss my blonde hair. The color has faded mostly, but my hair is still clearly red, and I'm just bored of the color. How can I get rid of the rest of the dyed color D:

Answer
If you dyed your hair a darker color with a semi-permanent (claims to wash out in 28 shampoos) dye, make a thick paste of crushed Vitamin C tablets and water. Apply the paste to your damp hair and rest an hour before washing out. This will remove most of the color if applied within a few days of the dying. You will not need to re-color your hair, the paste is non-damaging. OR Buy some hair color remover from a salon or drugstore. Loreal's "Hair Color Remover" and "Color Zap" seem to be the most popular, but they are very different! Color Zap will make your hair the color that it is naturally, where Hair Color Remover will gently make your hair colorless, or bleach blonde. OR Use a washing powder or clothing detergent. I dyed my hair black and after about 5 washes (leaving it on for about ten minuets) with detergent (bleaching AGENT only, not actual hydrogen peroxide etc, for example surf) it is sort of a dirty blonde, which is fairly close to my natural colour. Beware; your roots will lighten quicker than your ends, so maybe have a good haircut too!
