Is that kind of like being albino?

The only (about 3) black red heads I've met in my life say they're the only one in thier family with red hair and aren't sure if any of the ancestors were red heads.
And none of these people I've met are bi or multi racial.

Answer
It's usually because a white person in their lineage has red hair, and the gene just happened to show up in them. Red hair is a recessive trait. So if a red-head has a child with somebody with black hair, the kids will most likely have black hair. But they carry a red-hair gene that they can pass on. It's unlikely that it will show up if their lineage keeps procreating with dark-haired people, but not impossible.

How can i figure out my lineage?

Bendee

As far as i know i'm german. but my last name is scottish. i'm 5' 8" with auburn hair(reddish brown), i have red facial hair. my mother has blonde hair and my dad has black hair(red facial hair also). my mothers maiden name is definitely german and my dads last name is Bender (scottish). But how can i find out forsure?

Answer
Last names (and their debateable place of "origin"), and physical appearance are the top 2 things that have nothing to do with your lineage.
Illustration # 1... your last name might be Bender, but without actually researching your EXACT ancestors, it leaves open that it may be something else, originally. Among other possible scenarios.. what would happen, if you dug into records and find that your gr gr grandfathers birth name was Schultz, and he got the Bender name by adoption?
#2.. you are working with your mother's last name (maiden name) and dad's. By the next generation, there are 4 surnames; and 8 surnames by the next. Just arbitrarily say that each of the happen to be the immigrant? You are equally part of each of those. You need to know who they were.
myth # 3... names have nationality. No. They do not. Easiest illustration is the name Lee, which is found in both England, and in China.
Once you get past the myths, you get to finding DOCUMENTS (ie your birth cert is example of beginning document) that PROVE each of your exact ancestors, their exact details, and pull them together. "For sure" lies in the core of genealogy, which is documentation, based on the exact persons, until you reach the immigrant ancestors and where they ACTUALLY were born. No, it is not as hard as it sounds. There are far more records than you might think.
When you start seeing the ancestors by name (not surname), it will click. You will find each of their origins.
and will know for sure.

almost forgot... I have some data on some Benders, for a buddy of my husbands. I can send that to you, if you would like to contact me through my profile.
