It isnt impossible, a friend of mine has red hair and her husband has brown hair, one of their children has blonde hair and the other has red. Untill you have your baby you wont know and sometimes a baby will be born with brown/blonde hair but it could get redder as they get a bit older. However I think it would be more likely that your child will have brown hair as it is the most dominant colour, its like eye colours, if one parent has green or blue eyes and the other has brown then their child will more likely have brown eyes as its more dominant but its not impossible for the child to have blue or green eyes. If there has been red hair somewhere in your family history then it will probably increase the chances of your baby having red hair, but it cant be said what colour your baby's hair will be untill they are born.

Tracing the origins of red hair.......?
ZERO
where did red hair first appear in history.
scotland and ireland have the highest percentage of red hair in their populations. around 14%
what ethnicity contributed MCR1 to the british isles?
recent genetic studies tie the british peoples genes to the basques of spain. and they also show that celtic DNA is almost identical to basque.
so is it safe to assert that the basques contributed the red hair gene MCR1 to britain.
did they have red hair?
do they have red hair now?
some claim it was the vikings that brought MCR1 but the Pict's predate the vikings and they were renowned as redheads.
the redhead gene is the result of a mutation when two cultures intermixed this mutation only occurred once. implying all redheads have a common ancestor. if britain has the highest percentage of redheads then you would think it was in britain the first redheads occurred. but redheads were found in earlier indo european tribes such as
the sea people, Scythian, cimmerans, tribe of dan,
does this suggest a migration of indo european redheads to britain?
at what point and what culture do you think introduced MCR1?
is it an Indo european trait or a non indo european trait?
also if red hair came from the vikings and they came from north europe then why do they have such a low redhair percentage to the british ilses

Answer
I don't think there's really anyway to pinpoint the moment when red hair first appeared. I've never heard of the gene you mentioned.
I would say it's not safe to assert anything. Red hair can be common in multiplie places throughout history.
I did not know Picts were renowned as redheads, that's news to me.
