Will color oops lighten my hair?

asdfghjkl;

My hair is naturally light blonde but a bit over a year and I've been dying it dark brown and recently dark red. My roots are showing and I wanted to dye my hair red again although I wanted a more vibrant red but I didn't want to bleach my hair. I've watched some videos on YouTube and tired to research the product more but I haven't found anything too helpful. So basically I was wondering if the color oops would actually restore my hair back to light or dirty blonde? (or also maybe orange since I've dyed my hair red)

Answer
It would go orange, and your roots would be a different color. Vibrant Red is such a difficult color to do on yourself since it's easy to get hot roots. Make sure you formulate colors appropriately. Mixing a little neutral in your color for your new growth could help reduce chances of hot roots.

Naturally my hair is a medium brown. I had honey blonde highlights until recently (two days ago).. I colored my hair a chestnut brown. It was a level 2.. 28 wash dye.. so not permanet. It has a reddish tint that I don't really care for. So... I just went to Sally's an bought the ION permanent creme in medium brown. Will this work? How about coloring it two days after using a level 2 dye?? Any advice? Don't want any copper or red tones! Help! Thank you for all responses!! :))

Answer
Going dark to light WILL give you red, because that is the in between color from brown to blonde. If you want to eliminate the red, you must bleach first then dye. but not without the usual warnings and cautions of over processing your hair. As time goes by, you will not have to bleach the whole head, simply the roots.

Processing your whole head will ruin your hair. And doing this too often, while experimenting with color is going to damage your scalp, and cuticle. Caution and extreme conditioning, no heat or styling products should be used while you do this: find your color.

You should wait MINIMUM of 2 weeks before processing again. Sooner, you risk damage. Get into the habit of working ONLY the roots. Cellophane and clear tape off the rest of your hair so you don't get bleach on it. Bleach will remove it. Loreal's Super Blonde had three shades of blonde to take you from brown to blonde with no red tones. If you let the mixture get dry on your head, it won't color without going red. If you sweat, it won't bleach without red. If you take it off too soon, it will be red.

Taking yourself to a salon when you FIRST want to try a big change is ALWAYS best, so you don't over process. They will do it once, right, and the first time. without damaging your hair. You'll end up spending 60 bucks on chemicals, anyway. And then NOT be happy with the color.

The salon will do it for that much and get it right, in the beginning!

Then, you can simply do the touch ups your self at home, roots only and keep the perfect color.

P.s.. WATCH how they do it, so you can learn and ask how to prevent banding when you touch up the roots. They will be awesome and show you! Oh.. dont tell them you won't be back, either! heheh

P.s... treat your hair to a nice luxurious olive oil hot oil treatment.. you poor hair would love you!
