gisselle

i want to dye my hair but I'm not sure if it will come out like a purple or something i just want it do be a dark red???
anyone got any advice!!!!????!!!!

Answer
If your hair has never been coloured, pick a red that is in the darker shade rather than going for the bright red colour. Hair that has never been colour can take in the colour easily. It won't go bright bright red because your hair is the darkest colour on the colour chart. The only way for it to be bright red is if you bleach it. Your hair won't turn purple if you use a red hair dye but red hair does fade really fast so if you want to maintain the colour, you will have to redye it every few weeks.

What colour formal dress would suit someone with Orangey-Aurbuney-Red hair?

Ashlea Dry

So I have orangey-Aurbuney-red hair, pale freckly skin and brown eyes . In terms of hair and skin tone, I compare most with Lindsay Lohan when she was in Parent Trap.
I have a really hard time finding a prom dress that I like, so I'm considering renting a prom dress, so I want to know what colours will suit me.

Answer
Contrasting colors are always great. And since your colors are in the red-orange group, your contrasting colors are in the green-blue group.

Look for greens that have some blue in them or blues that have some green in them like aquamarines, teals, turquoises, those colors. Deep blues and Greens can look great too, even violets with a lot of blue in them. Look out for greens with a lot of yellow in them (spring greens, celery greens, the like), especially if your skin has a lot of yellow in it, yellows will pull out the yellow in your skin, making you look sickly. And avoid violets with a lot of red in them, especially if your skin has a lot of pink in it as that will pull out the pink in your skin, making you look sunburned.

Also, since your skin is on the lighter side, avoid tones of colors that are too bright, like neons and such, as the concentration of color will work against the delicate coloring of your skin by overwhelming it. Pastels can play up your paleness making you look washed out. Rich colors like jewel tones (think a box of Crayola "Bold" markers) are saturated too, but they tend towards the darker side of the tonal scale which works in pale people's favor because the contrast makes our skin "pop" (I'm quite pale myself with sallow skin, so I stick to rich, cool colors like blues, greens and purples for the contrast as well).

Also, look for matte (non-shiny) fabrics. Shiny fabrics like satins, that sheen is NOT our friend.

Here's a chart of tones of green, near the bottom are the bluish-greens that'll serve you best:

And here's a list of purples as well:
