Dove

I plan on dying my hair a red velvet cupcake color, I have dark brown hair right now and i Will be using L'Oreal hiColor dye for dark hair. If I mix red (which is too bright alone) and Red Hot (which isnt bright enough) will I get the color I want? (I have to use two tubes because my hair is so thick)

Answer
That's LIKE BUYING TWO BOXES of hair dye, is is TOO STRONG for any one's hair.

Some boxed dyes, have been recalled, due to wrong dye box, not the same as the box model shown.
Two times beware. That's like picking a box of dye, with your eyes closed! And the answer is NO, you won't. That's my guarantee.

Style meets chemistry meets biology: We're talking hair coloring.

Playing with chemicals is not like playing with clothes, or doing a manicure, there are penalties for playing chemicals in the lab. Even hair color experts at the salon are not rocket scientists, they do a bang up dye jobs to their clients or their own hair.
Example: "My hair is right about armpit length as it is, but I've severely damaged it by bleaching it all at once. As a student of cosmetology myself, I would have to say that it was probably one of the worst mistakes I could have ever made."
Another example: ok i did my hair yesterday i DIDN'T bleach it ,but im not sure what its called but she took the color out of my hair and then dies it a blond color and my head was on fire it killed me so after that i hated my hair color so i colored it my self a darker color, it looked so ugly and it burned me again it rully hrt so after i washed it my mom checked it for me and found small spots of blood all over my top scalp like over 20 of em now im scared and don't know why its there is it from the color am i sick and something is wrong ??

Chemicals can enter the body through the skin.

Google: Teen 'feared she would die' after reaction to hair dye
The allergic reaction was caused by a well-known brand of semi-permanent hair dye Chloe used to turn her hair black for a Halloweâen party. . . . . called for beauty bosses to ban hair dye chemical PPD (para-phenylenediamine) from the shelves. 11-04-11

The chemical is not new and is present in a number of brands of dark hair colours, acting to help adhere the dye to the hair so that it doesn't wash out. Itâs made from coal tar and is used in both permanent and semi-permanent hair colours. Itâs well-known to be a cause of serious allergic reactions -- including something called contact dermatitis which can lead to rashes, blisters, and open sores.
PPD is sometimes added to black henna tattoos and that using them is not safe. Allergic reactions usually begin within two to 10 days following application. One bad reaction can lead to sensitivities to other products such as hair dye, sunblock and some types of clothing dyes. Oftentimes, it's using the product a second or third time.

Vanessa Minnillo Lachey: "I dated a guy once who wanted me to have blonde hair. Clearly, he was the wrong guy for me! I went to a lady who bleached my hair and it literally fell out. So, not only did I go back to my natural hair, I broke up with the guy!"

Answer
Fairy tale heroines, vintage pin-ups, glamour models, old-fashioned movie stars, female superheros, theatrical actresses, geishas, vamps, sirens... what do they all have in common? They all wear red lipstick. Choosing a red lipstick in the right color, texture and pigmentation, applied correctly, can mean the difference between looking like Snow White, Jessica Rabbit, or Ronald McDonald.

1.
Decide if your skin is cool-toned, warm-toned or neutral-toned. Most people are warm-toned or neutral-toned, usually only very pale and very dark skinned people are cool-toned. Very pale skin has pink and blue undertones, and very dark skin has blue or gray undertones. Most people who are warm or neutral-toned have yellow, orange, green, gold or bronze undertones in their skin. Jet black, icy pale blonde, white, gray, ashy blonde and ashy brown are cool-toned hair colors. Dark brown, chestnut brown, mahogany brown, golden brown, red, ginger, golden blonde and strawberry blonde are warm-toned hair colors. Eyes can be either warm or cool-toned, but brown eyes are warm, and most people have brown eyes, so most people have warm-toned eyes. Blue and gray eyes are cool-toned. Green and hazel eyes can be either warm-toned or cool-toned.

2.
Once you have figured out of if you are cool-toned or warm-toned, you can now begin looking for the right shade of lipstick for your coloring. If you are warm-toned, you will want to look for a red lipstick with orange or brownish undertones, such as brick, copper, wine, coral or tomato red colors. The darker and deeper your skin is, the more pigmented and deeper the red lipstick should be. If you are cool-toned, you will want to look for a red lipstick with pink or blue undertones, such as ruby, garnet, berry, cranberry, fire engine red or fuchsia red colors.

3.
You will want to make sure that the pigmentation is appropriate for you. If you are pale skinned, very pigmented lipstick is a dramatic look on you, and is usually not suitable for day-to-day wear. Instead, look for a sheerer, softer color that you can wear more frequently. If you have very deep skin, you will need a lipstick with substantial pigmentation. Your own lips are probably pigmented, so you want to combine the natural color of your lips with a red lipstick, to create the perfect red for your coloring.

4.
You also want to make sure that the texture and consistency is appropriate, as well. A matte lipstick stays on longer than a glossy lipstick, but it is drier and harder to apply than glossier lipsticks. A glossy lipstick will be easier to apply, but it will also run, smear and fade. A creamy-matte lipstick moisturizes your lips, has decent staying power and doesn't smudge, smear or rub off easily. If you choose, you can use lip balms, lip stains and lip glosses to add a more subdued red to your lips, without using lipstick.

5.
If you have any flakes on your lips, they will show a lot more if you apply red lipstick. Scrub your lips with a soft toothbrush, a wet washcloth, or with some sugar, if you have any flaky skin on your lips.

6.
Next apply a sheer red balm onto your lips, so if your lipstick does fade, you won't be left with lipstick on the edges of your mouth. Wearing a red lip balm underneath ensures that your lipstick will fade softly and evenly. If you use lip liner, use a lip liner that matches the color of your lips, not the color of your lipstick.

7.
Red lipstick is best applied with a lip brush. It looks stamped on otherwise. Dip your lip brush in lipstick, start filling in your lips from the middle of your bottom lip, and smooth out the brush to the ends of your lips, being careful to not apply lipstick outside your lip line. Apply one layer, blot with a tissue, and then apply another light layer. And that's it, you're done!
