Help me figure out this sentence?

Q. "Her wariness of narrative as an interpretive device has the last word ..."

Key words: "interpretive device". I can't figure out if the author means that narrative can be interpreted and therefore should be mistrusted, or if he means, specific methodologies (ie., feminist) should be mistrusted ...

what do you think?
It just seems like such an awkward sentence to me. "Narrative as an interpretive device"? Narrative ITSELF can't be the interpretive device. It's OPEN TO interpretation. The "device" sounds more like a specific critique or method ... no?

Answer
paul,

I would go with the mistrust of narratives.

I think I know where you're going.

I took it as "her wariness" being the "interpretive device". She can have wariness of females with red hair...it would be her wariness, whatever the reason for that wariness, that would make her feel differently about red-haired females.

Do most men have to date a woman more useless than himself?

Danger Exh

Since most women tend to date up. Women want someone superior to themselves financially, physically, mentally, etc.
Or at least with most of those things.

So that means we always get to date useless women.

In the rare case that a woman is more intelligent than me she is always a one trick pony anyway and looking for a sugar daddy.
