Red lipstick?

O->--<

Any tips on buying a dark red lipstick. Any color I choose always ends up looking hot pinkish. I've got brown hair and blue eyes with an ivory complexion (with a fading tan). I don't want to look like a hooker, just want to try out a nice red color.

Answer
With an ivory complexion, brownish-red lipstick would look more like a clay on your lips. Without knowing your undertones though, it's hard to say. Try using a 'clear' red like Certainly Red by Revlon (if they still make it, not sure) or a a 'blue-red' which is more of a deep blood red color.

Also, maybe it's the brand you're using. Red lipstick shouldn't turn out looking like hot pink unless you're using a sheer color and not realizing it. Try a matte or cream-based lipstick.

Brown does NOT compliment an ivory skin tone. First of all, it depends on undertones. You need to determine that first. Sometimes brownish colors do compliment ivory, but not often. Most times, it just looks like mud and can actually make you look older than you may want to.

What colour lipstick can I wear with red hair?

Its a sort of bright, vibrant red with mahogony tones. Can I get away with a coloured lipstick or am I better off going nude(ha)?

Answer
it depends on what shade of red your hair is. If your hair is a more darker red color, than some lipsticks colors that would look good on you would probably be any nude colors, light pinks (not bright crazy pinks), rustic colors (like in orange family), and and reds b/c red looks good on everybody. If you have a more lighter red hair color, than use colors like soft pinks, plums, browns, nude colors, creamy looking lip gloss, reds, and mauves.But no matter what shade of red hair you have, nude colors, reds, and any lip gloss that doesn't have too much color in it usually looks good on any red head.
